This is a great gym, with helpful and experienced instructors and staff. The gym provides different levels of training making it super beginner friendly and less intimidating. I love their women’s only class and the community that the facility provides.
Glad I found this place, only been coming for a few months and have learned way more than I could have imagined. Good environment to learn and grow in and they have classes all throughout the day and week. Jamal and all the other coaches do a great job
All-Star MMA is a Muay Thai and jiu jitsu gym that is truly exceptional, thanks to its incredible coaches, welcoming atmosphere, and top-notch training environment. Im glad to have found this gym back in 2019. The owner, Jamal, has a genuine passion for helping others succeed and it is evident in everything he does. He’s not only a skilled coach but also a compassionate mentor who always strives to push each athlete to their best, no matter their experience level. Tyler, the Muay Thai coach, is a wealth of knowledge. His technique is impeccable, and he has a unique ability to break down complex moves into manageable steps. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, Tyler’s coaching will elevate your Muay Thai game and give you a deeper understanding of the art. His enthusiasm and skill levels make every class a valuable experience. In addition, the facility itself continues to impress, especially with the recent updates that have made it even more comfortable and equipped for high-level training. From the environment to the Muay Thai equipment, every aspect of the gym is thoughtfully designed to create the best training facility possible. They’ve successfully created a space where growth is not just encouraged, but celebrated. Highly recommend!
I started just over a year ago with zero BJJ experience. The instructors allow you to crawl before you walk and run, with huge amounts of patience and professionalism. My rolling partners are also super helpful in sharing their knowledge and helping me develop. The gym has plenty of classes to accommodate all sorts of schedules ranging from 6am to 8pm.The place is clean, has lots of mat space, and has a ton of positive energy. If I were to start a gym someday,I would model it after this place.
I definitely recommend coming here for Muay Thai! The teachers are kind and the other students are welcoming. Definitely a great place to start!
Best MMA gym in New Jersey
All Star MMA is the real deal. From the moment I walked in the door I knew this gym was the one. Currently enrolled in Muay Thai and the instructor is top tier. If you’re looking to get cardio, discipline, and great training partners. This is the place to be. They have everything you need to elevate your MMA skills!
Meet the Christine and her husband during their sat class. Lovely and warm couple. All the students were kind and welcoming to me. I never loved any group more than I loved this one. So many levels of skill. If I made more money there would be nothing stopping me from joining! Currently saving for a wedding so I just couldn't justify the expanse. But other than that I have nothing bad to say about this community they have built. I look forward to coming again after the wedding !
Great place to train in Martial Arts! So many good instructors Aaron, Jon, Patrick, Homer, and of course head coach Jamal Patterson. Deep details on techniques. Burn tons of calories, and made me more agile. Feel more comfortable in my own skin.
I started to train here just over a year ago and the vibe and culture is great. At AllStar BJJ/MMA members and people who have just started are treated with respect and supported in their training. The staff is friendly and highly knowledgeable in Wrestling, BJJ, Muay Thai, and more. A very strong Black Belt presence at this gym gives members the support system they need to improve on the mats in the areas that intertest them. Very tough rolls and friendly people. I would highly recommend this gym.
AllStar has been my second family for quite some time now. The community and staff welcomed me with open arms on my first day, and it has been an incredible experience ever since. It has become an integral part of my life, and I can say with full confidence that AllStar has helped me grow both physically and mentally.
Jamal Patterson, and all other instructors at AllStar, are phenomenal. They harvest the most welcoming, safe, growth-oriented environment possible. If you need a school to begin training, this is the one. If you need a school to further continue your training, this is also the one! I love AllStar!!!!
Training jiu-jitsu is great over at All-Star, one of the best things they have classes to suit any level from beginners to expert
Great environment and teachers came in as a beginner and was hooked immediately everyone who trains here is friendly and creates a great community
I highly recommend All Star - I have been a student of BJJ since December 2023. Instructors are highly professional and I am enjoying my journey in learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - I go 3 nights a week and very much look forward to each class - Dennis Hepworth
I’ve only been going for about a month and a half and I already see a major improvement in my technic and conditioning. They truly challenge you to go past your limit. It is a friendly environment and I’m grateful to be a part of it
Great school with a lot of varying hours for a variety of classes. Coaches are approachable and knowledgeable.
Great place to train, the atmosphere is really chill, overtime you make really great friends. One of my favorite places to be.
I’ve trained here for 2.5 years and the place is great! Very professional, quality atmosphere, lessons, and training partners. Renzo Gracie affiliation is a big plus. Highly recommended!
I had the honor of training Muay Thai at Allstar BJJ/MMA and I can honestly say it was a great experience all around. All of the trainers were extremely knowledgeable, professional and very personable. I am not a novice, nor am I an expert in Muay Thai but I did appreciate the well rounded instruction at all levels. Some of the classes I attended did push my limits whereas others refreshed me on the basics such as proper form; all of which I greatly appreciated. I'd also like to commend Allstar on their cleanly environment with them also having a beautiful and large mat space. If you're looking for a skilled, disciplined facility for training martial arts I would highly recommend Allstar.
Great place to train and join a new community
i love this place!!!! came in brand new, never done a martial art before, and the instructors are there to help! any questions i had i was never made to feel embarrassed :)
I cannot recommend AllStar highly enough! From the moment I walked through the door, I knew I was in for an exceptional fitness experience. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, always ready to offer guidance and encouragement to help me achieve my goals. The variety of classes and training options ensures there's something for everyone, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned athlete. Plus, the sense of community among members makes every workout feel like a shared accomplishment. If you're looking for a gym that will push you to be your best self, look no further than AllStar!
Great place to learn and be guided if you are getting started in Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA.
As a mature female student with limited grappling experience, I was nervous coming into BJJ but I found the instructors in the Foundation class to be very patient and knowledgeable . There is great attention to details and the techniques are broken down into digestible parts for ease of learning. The instructors come around to help out each student if they are experiencing difficulties with the drills. Other students were welcoming and helpful too!
i’ve been training for about two months now and all i can say is this is a great gym, experience, and clean. staffing is awesome very knowledgeable, helpful, and welcome any question you may have especially when you’re new and don’t have a clue what you are doing they are straight forward when it comes to teaching us and knowledgeable.
A wealth of classes at all hours, including early morning which is key for me. Instructors are knowledgeable and fellow students are friendly
w mma and bjj place fr
Very solid place with very solid coaches whether you’re looking to get in shape, compete, enjoy martial arts or all of the above this place will get you on the right path. Would defienlty reccomend for all people of all ages as well
What can I say, I love this place. The staff is cool and very knowledgeable. If your looking to train, and actually learn some fighting skills this is the place.
As a 40-year-old father with two sons, aged six and 12, we've been regulars at this gym for over three months, and our experience has been nothing short of amazing! We're absolutely hooked. The instructors here are not only incredibly knowledgeable but also have the warmest and friendliest disposition. The facility is impressively clean and always well-maintained. We're delighted to say that both my sons and I plan on being loyal members here for the foreseeable future. The pricing and scheduling options are fantastic, making it convenient for families like ours. If you're considering it, I highly recommend taking advantage of the free trial class – it's an experience you won't want to miss!
Instructors are the real deal, really attentive, learning a lot everyday.
Instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and professional.I started with no BJJ experience and they've made me feel very comfortable. It's a welcoming, friendly atmosphere to learn and meet people.
I have been training under Allstar MMA for a decade and it's been nothing but positive and professional experiences. All knowledgeable black belt and world champion instructors! More people need to be taking advantage of this gym!
This place is great, but I live close to All-Star Taekwon-Do in West Caldwell. A lucky break for me. A great place - or, in my opinion, the best. I practiced in CO and a few other locations over 40 years, and I know the difference. They have self-defense and stick fighting, and self-defense classes for women.
From the moment I stepped foot in Allstar MMA I felt welcome. Every training partner I’ve had has been patient, understanding and easy to work with. I’ve always felt safe with every member I’ve trained with. I’ve been a student of Jamal Patterson for my entire jiu jitsu career and would be the first to recommend Allstar to any interested party and especially to women interested in training BJJ.
I started here a year ago with zero BJJ experience. Getting started was intimidating but the instructors have all pushed me out of my comfort zone while still allowing me to work at my own pace. Both the higher belts and instructors are super generous with their time, answering questions and demonstrating moves. Anyone who comes here and makes the effort to learn and practice regularly will see themselves improve.
This place has felt like home since day 1. Attention to detail through and through from America making sure you’re ready for your first session to the coaches recognizing/acknowledging your weak points, and pushing you through your workouts. Jamal shows interest in everyone that comes through his doors. Very comfortable environment.
Allstar is a great place to challenge yourself physically and mentally. Great and knowledgeable instructors. There’s classes available every day throughout the week. The gym also has a larger open mat space.
Needing something to do to lose weight and learn a new skill
Great, supportive environment for everyone. Knowledgeable instructors and great training opportunities. Jamal P. is the man. Highly recommended.
Great place to train and work on advancing your skill. Great atmosphere and nothing but good vibes.
Check this gym out especially if you are a LEO. It is an affiliate school of @adoptacopbjj and a @njleojiujitsu friendly gym.
Waking up at 5am on a Monday isn’t easy but we’ll worth it to train here! Wether you’re interested in how to defend yourself or just get in shape this place offers it all! The staff is always friendly and really works with you. Seriously thankful every time I get to go!
I love this place. The coaches are all amazing and really do their best to teach you. Coach Villy is the best coach I have ever had in all my years training. Professor Patterson is the owner and he has created a fantastic and helpful atmosphere here. Everyone here is positive and helps each other out. If you want to improve as a martial artists, you will here. If you want to lose weight, you will here as well. The prices are fair as well. Not too cheap but not too expensive either.
This place is awesome. The instructors and members are knowledgeable and friendly. I was looking for a place to get some additional sessions throughout the month and my instructor recommended this academy. The facilities are very clean and well maintained. I will definently be coming back.
Great school, great coach, great people. This gym got me back on my feet and feeling young again! Thank you Jamal, thank you Allstar!
I started coming here around the end of June and I can say I absolutely love it from the coaches to all the people you meet to the training they give you everything about it is just great! They have helped me completely fall in love with Muay Thai I would definitely recommend anyone to this gym
Always a good time at allstar
Been training here for almost a year now, hands down a great environment with great coaches who will help you succeed as long as you’re straight up and put in the work required. Since day one I was treated like family and our bond just kept growing. I’d highly recommend you come down here and train with us. The owner of the gym, Jamal Patterson, gives energy like no other. He’s got the best sense of humor as he’s always cracking jokes which makes him super easy to approach. Jamal is very considerate and patient which just shows how much he loves his job as an instructor. He’s also a big believer in loyalty, honesty, and respect. All of which are qualities that will quickly start to reflect in yourself. His classes for Kickboxing/Muay Thai fundamentals help you not only get in shape but also build solid techniques in a fun but effective way. The advanced Kickboxing/Muay Thai instructor, Villi Bello is a very knowledgeable and observant coach. He offers great insight to those looking to compete and he’ll 100% help your fight IQ and mental fortitude increase tremendously. His serious and straight-to-the-point attitude makes him an extremely effective coach as well. Whether you’re here with hopes to compete or just trying to get fit and improve your lifestyle, AllStar BJJ/MMA Training can help.
Best MMA/Muay Thai academy loved it. Jamal is great very knowledgeable, respectful and very passionate about teaching the art to his students. The classes were challenging but pushed you to work hard to get you stronger and better. Staff was nice and all the people i worked out with were very friendly. Jamal also understood my situation and without any questions asked cancelled my membership it was a breeze. Please don't hesitate to join this academy if you want to learn to fight, for self defense or just to get back in shape. Thank you Sir.
Intense workout got me motivated first thing in the morning
Great gym for training, learning, and getting a workout. Awesome atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.
Great atmosphere, amazing coach and all the members treat each other like family. What more can you ask for?
I have been aware of All Star MMA for years and they always came highly recommended from colleagues. A couple weeks ago, I decided to stop putting it off and check it out. It’s also one of the few Brazilian Jiu jitsu places in Union County with morning classes. From the moment I walked in, the place had a good vibe. Everyone there was super chill and cool and accepting. Needless to say from the first day, I got hooked and I can’t recommend Jamal and his All Star family enough. My only gripe is with myself for not signing up sooner. If you’re looking for a place to train, meet cool people in a good vibe facility, look no further.
Signed up November of 2020 for the 42day challenge after seeing it on Instagram. I'm now a full time member at this gym and I'm proud to be one. Amazing environment, everyone even students are friendly and helpful. I went from the 42 day challenge to doing kick boxing and ju jitsu 4 to 5 days a week. They have an amazing schedule that is so packed with classes that it's on you if you can't make one. I would recommend anyone this gym. Looking to get in shape lose some weight learn a new craft build confidence and meet new people. This place hands down offers thats. Friendly staff and student, ego free gym. Everyone wants to learn and there's some real talented coaches with legit fighting backgrounds.
You wanna Learn legit kickboxing and muay thai this is where you go. Plain and simple.
Great environment to learn self defense and the competitive side of ju jitsu. There is a variety of very talented instructors and personnel to learn from. I highly recommend this location!
Best gym I have ever been to. Quality instruction, clean environment, and positive atmosphere. Always have and always will recommend Allstar BJJ
trained with Jamal a few years ago for a short stretch and it still was one of my favorite gyms, if not my favorite in NJ/NY area. He's one of Renzo's first American black belts and it shows in him/his coaches depth of knowledge in all areas of grappling, including wrestling which is often ignored in a lot of gyms. Great BJJ, great people, and a great environment.
Eight years, three jobs, two kids and two moves—in that time Jamal and Allstar have been one of the only constants in my life. Allstar BJJ is fitness, self-defense, friendships and therapy all rolled into one. It’s my home away from home, and for as long as he’s teaching I will always be a student of Jamal Patterson and member of team Allstar.
Great place to train in a stress free atmosphere. Plenty of classes that are offered throughout the week.
Professor Jamal and the rest of the team are the best in the area. Fair pricing. Clean facility. Knowledgeable instructors. I am very happy to be a part of the All Star family.
Great people and programs! Definitely worth checking out!
The instructors are really great. They’re patient and very helpful. I joined Allstar as a way to get in shape and to loose weight, but then I started falling in love with martial arts. I started taking the form even more seriously. I love it. Great place to meet and build friendships as well.
AllStar is an amazing MMA training facility, coaches are super cool and very professional at their respective art, and meeting unique individuals with the same goal of improving oneself was a fraction of the fun! The facility needs a few upgrades like expanding as space could be a problem at times but not always the case. The monthly membership is a bit pricey and varies on the program you sign up for but, you're well taken care of there, and if you’re consistent and dedicate yourself to the art, it’s definitely worth it and you won’t be disappointed with the results.
Great instructors, place of huge. I ❤️
(Writing this on a throw away account) The BJJ classes put more focus and emphasis on rolling. Depending on the instructor more than half of the class is live rolls, and there isn't much room for learning or drilling technique. Honestly if they shifted focus to drills and technique and called more attention to form it would be so much better and people wold learn a lot more. I understand people find rolling to be more enjoyable and they want to get their moneys worth, but the lessons should be centered around practicing drills and learning new things. Also Jamal no offense but, when it comes to you showing your students a move or positions or something you should really put more effort into it. Just demonstrating it twice and leaving it at that isn't doing us much good.
Nice area for bjj but mma area is a hallway, very awkward payment system, subscription based with hold fees, about 94 a week for full gym which is almost 4x what other gyms in the area are, both striking classes were about 90% beginners on their free week. No showers, no weights, open locker room, single bathroom, very underwhelming for the price. Very personal opinion, staff was lovely, equipment was in good shape and it was clean.
Owner is a scammer , he’s told me multiple times my membership was over and continue to charge me and has not refunded the money he stole
I came across this place via social media where they were advertising a "free" 42 day fitness challenge. Once I arrived they began to inform me that they need a deposit of $480 for the program. Of course I ask why if it's "free"? They began to explain that what makes it free is that this deposit will go towards one of their martial arts courses after the challenge. Sounded strange but decided to proceed since i do enjoy martial arts. So i signed up and was to begin August 1st. They asked me if I wanted to try a class since I'm there already. This was July 30. I did their BJJ class because it was the next one about to begin. I left feeling ok but by the time I woke up Monday morning I couldn't move my dominant arm. I went to the doctor who took x-rays and explained to me that something like BJJ is too physical for me to do at this time. I explained the same and even sent them a doctor's letter from my follow-up visit and now they refuse to give me a refund. So now I have to go forward with next steps. #scammers
1 star is too much for people who play with people’s time. This place is not serious at all
The good first. Clean gym with everything you need for combat/bjj training(imho). The main guy seems students oriented, professional and knowledgeable. Now my experience. I got injured 10 minutes into my first practice. I am a pro athlete(though not in combat sports). I have tons of coaching experience. Therefore, here are my questions. 1. What happened to a warmup? Even just a simple, short full body prepping workout? 2. I had 0 experience in any wrestling. I specifically mention that. I received NO introduction, NO safety rules, NO basics nothing. Does that sound right to you? 3. How do you make a person with ABSOLUTELY NO experience in his/her first minutes wrestle in pairs and work on throws(or whatever that was)? My case is an example of a 100% preventable accident. It took me 5 years to convince myself to sign up for a combat practice. But because of this absolutely unprofessional approach I am not coming back. I am sure you don't care but in my face at least you lost a long term client.
Not a fan. Wasn’t treated with respect or dignity there. The owner definitely plays favorites and I wasted my time.
This place is a straight up scam. $399 deposit for a “Free 42 day challenge” in which they basically pinky promise you’ll get your $399 back after the 42 days. There is absolutely nothing in writing stating this. I was charged $399 before I signed any kind of deposit agreement. Which come to find out there is no such agreement. Don’t do it! I was told that my card would not be charged until I sign agreements in my email. I did not receive any agreements and my card was charged. I now have to waste my time waiting to dispute this charge.
