Stopped in with my brother for an open mat when we were back in town for the holidays and everyone was really welcoming, great gym!
Had a great experience here everyone was very welcoming. Lots of fun training at a beautiful gym. They also have showers!
I've been training at Renzo Gracie Denville for 10 years, and I continue to chose RGD because it's the best atmosphere to learn Jiu Jitsu. The experience level on the mats is only matched by everyone's helpfulness, humility and generosity. It's quite common to find 5-10 black belts with decades of experience in any given class, and everyone approaches training at RGD in the spirit of learning and growing. I've also trusted my sons' grappling education to the experts at Renzo Gracie Denville since they were young, and the results have been amazing. My sons are both teenagers now, and both are confident and competent young men. I credit much of their maturity to the lessons they've learned at RGD. The skills they've developed on the mat will pay dividends for the rest of my sons' lives. Renzo Gracie is legendary and beloved for many reasons. One of Renzo's philosophies that always resonated for me is, "If it works, use it." That spirit of creativity and encouragement unleashes Jiu Jitsu to blossom from a workout to an art. And it's this exact spirit George Sernack has nurtured into the soul of Renzo Gracie Denville. Bottom line : If you want to get good at Jiu Jitsu FAST, Renzo Gracie Denville should be your #1 choice. Attend literally any class, and you'll sense it immediately. RGD is a special place where Jiu Jitsu thrives.
Kids enrolled to continue their previous training and we are very pleased with the level of instruction and the care from the coaching staff. coach Vinny and coach Justin have been great getting the kids motivated and confident to continue their Jujitsu journey. They have three different levels little lions, teen and adult classes with individual lessons available as well. I would recommend this to anyone interested in trying out
I have been training at Renzo Gracie Denville for 2 years now, and I can confidently say that it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. The instructors are not only highly skilled and experienced, but they are also incredibly patient, supportive, and dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential. The training environment is professional, welcoming and friendly. Over the past 2 years, I have seen a significant improvement in my physical fitness, technical ability, and mental toughness. The curriculum is well-structured and challenging, and there is always something new to learn. I cannot recommend Renzo Gracie Denville enough to anyone looking for a fun, safe, and effective way to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and improve their overall health and well-being.
Absolutely the best martial arts school for my 14 year old son--Vinnie the Director is friendly, engaging and pays attention to the growth of the students. Seriously, all the instructors have been top-notch. My son is enthused to join in and learn moves, and I'm seeing his confidence is strengthening lately... despite being on his devices the other 23 hours of the day. 😉
Just go, you owe it to yourself to experience this place.
I started training here mid July and now I'm here 4 to 5 times a week. I was so nervous in the beginning because I had never been to any type of martial arts class before but bjj has always been a dream of mine ever since I heard Jocko Willink talk about it. I felt so welcomed as soon as I walked in the door. All of the Professors are very patient and you can really tell they love to teach. Coach Vinnie is the best ambassador for the sport of bjj. He is enthusiastic, funny, knowledgeable, and he is always happy to see you.
Great place to train. Been training here for quite some time and it’s great to see how the programs/classes evolve as new people sign up. Highly recommended for beginners and experts alike.
They are great. Solid training and nice people
My name is Sotirios Steniotis and I practice BJJ over 7 years! Renzo Gracie Denville NJ is one of the best schools around the state of NJ....!!!!!!! If you really want to learn a good BJJ and MuayThai is the right place to go!!!!100%!!! Friendly people clean environment and the most important a lot of knowledge!!!!!!! Professor George he is true professional !!!!
My family and I have been training martial arts for the last decade. Always looking for that next challenge, growth and development. We have now been part of the Team Renzo Gracie Denville for over a year now and has been best decision taken as a family. I myself have lost over 80lbs. My kids have prospered in channeling their training and becoming better versions of themselves. The school is full of talent, committed training partners and dedicated instructors. Professor George Professor Tom and Coach Vinny and rest of staff demonstrating true professionalism and dedication in the success and development of all students.
Professor George and the rest of the instructors are amazing. The training facility, environment, and training partners are top notch. My only regret is not enrolling earlier.
This place has become like a second home. Started off going twice a week, now I’m here almost every day, sometimes twice a day. The lessons learned here have not only helped me become a better martial artist on the mats but a better person in the world. Highly recommend making this your dojo if you’re looking to learn Jiu Jitsu.
Visited this gym while visiting my Mom last year. I cannot say enough great things about this gym … top-notch Professors, amazing people, great facility. If I lived in this area, I would definitely be a member of their team. Thanks for such a great experience!
I was on my way to double hip replacement surgery. Jujitsu is always something that I peaked my interest but I never participated. As an avid fan of MMA, the discipline of jujitsu was always intriguing for its grace, beauty, and ability to dominate an opponent. I never could find the time to participate so I engaged in other athletic activities such as gym work, running, and triathlons. After years of training and at 47 years of age I found my body started to reject those sports. My hips began to deteriorate to the point where the doctor advised that a double hip replacement surgery will be necessary in the very near future. Trying to avoid this surgery I received very painful gel shots. I figured now is the time where I can try jujitsu because after the surgery that this may be impossible. I signed up for Team Renzo Gracie Denville’s complementary class to see if I would be able to perform to my expected level. As it turns out with the basic movements that were instructed I was hooked. After a short time I found something interesting had occurred. The training forced me to stretch in ways that I was unable to do myself, opening up my hips and relieving pressure on the damaged sockets. I found myself being able to move in a more fluid fashion and my damaged hips have been feeling great. I’m able to perform movements since beginning my jujitsu training that I have been unable to perform for several months. While I am hooked on this discipline, a secondary benefit of pain relief has been found. I can’t think team Renzo Gracie Denville enough for I’m sure they don’t realize this gift that they have given to me.
Awesome place to train. Super supportive group of people all the way from the instructors to my fellow classmates. I look forward to going every day!
I’ve been training Brazilian jujitsu here for a few months. I’ve never met a friendlier and more positive group of people in my life. I was nervous being a bigger guy that people wouldn’t want to train with me but every single member and instructor has been excellent. I also love the number of classes that fit with my schedule i feel like I’m certainly getting my money’s worth.
Amazing place. Welcoming. Great team atmosphere and absolutely amazing training. Highly recommend!!
This school is great. The instructors are very friendly and do a great job teaching. Being new to bjj, the training is excellent and I highly recommend Renzo Gracie Denville.
I love this school and the staff. George cares about what your goals are and how to get there. I also love that you train and your not awarded stripes or belts by how long you been there or how many people you recommend. Its all about your progression and quality of training.you have to put the time in on the mats to achieve your goals. My wife and kids will be training here forever with me.
This is a Great Jiu Jitsu academy. The instructors are very helpful and the entire academy represents Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and martial arts very well. Everyone is friendly and has a great attitude. Highly recommend.
Great place for kids and adult classes and jiu-jitsu training.
Only trained for about a month so far, but the lessons and basic knowledge received has laid a great foundation for future training. Staff is friendly and more than willing to help with questions from someone who needs repetition to learn.
Great coaching staff. Great team. Really out there to make you the best you can possibly be
As a law enforcement officer and a new comer to BJJ I recommend no other than Team Renzo Gracie In Denville to train. I have had exceptional sessions thus far and continue to learn this amazing martial art with some of the best around.
Phenomenal place - outstanding instructors, great atmosphere, genuine community! Highly recommend!!
Great place for learning jiu-jitsu, training, and making great friends. Everyone is extremely kind and helpful. Dont feel intimidated or have any worries if you are new and want to learn jiu-jitsu. You are in good hands. The instructors are excellent and will teach you step by step in a very safe, and positive environment. You will not be disappointed if you choose this school.
Fantastic place to train and very eye opening. Everybody in this school is for everybody. They want to see everybody excel. Not only do the instructors do a great job at teaching. other members are also more than willing to help out less experienced guys. This type of training is very beneficial to law enforcement the reasons are very obvious. Highly recommend Renzo Gracie to everybody who wants to train hard and learn BJJ
Great place to train! Easy for beginners with no prior experience, they offer a lot of classes at very convenient times! I would highly recommend training here!
I've been involved in the martial arts for much of my life, and been practicing BJJ for quite a while- I can say without any hesitation that RWMMA is one of the absolute best academies I've come across. The facility is clean and welcoming. Perhaps most importantly, the students and culture of RWMMA are fantastic - everyone is respectful to each other, while still providing the right amount of competitive spirit.
When we decided that we want our 2 youngest girls (11 and 8) in some kind of martial arts. I did my research and reached out to a bunch of places. I got the same vibe from them all.. They were all about how fast they could get my girls into a black belt and how they would the envy of their friends, about how they were the best and how they talked down about any other martial arts place that wasn’t them. hmmm. And I just thought.. WHAT???? That isn’t my angle.. AT ALL - I could care less what their belt color is or what their friends think — I wanted this to be about the journey, not the destination so I kept looking and finally we found a home at Renzo Gracie Denville. I reached out to Renzo Gracie Denville and found Vinnie--immediately felt right at home. He talked with me and my girls and answered all our questions and then they took a trail class and LOVED it. I was sold. While anyone who knows me knows I talk A LOT one of things I did when we first joined was to just observe. And this is what I saw. I saw people greeted by name when they walked in, kids, adults. All of them greeted with a big hello, a high five and a “how are you”. I saw people talking to each other. Parents, kids, adults.. talking, laughing and interacting with each other .. “how was your day”, “how did that thing go?” I saw people laughing and smiling and hanging out while their kids took classes, talking about their day. The place doesn’t feel like martial arts factory, It doesn't feel like a chore. It doesn't feel like anonymous people just going thru the motions of walking thru the door day after day just checking one more thing off their to do list. It feels like a family. We have been there several months now and couldn’t be happier with the amazing instructors. They continually go above and beyond to help and encourage the girls. The girls love it… they love the friends they have made, they love going to class and the love practicing what they have learned on each other at home —HA. My only regret is that we didn’t find this place sooner.
I can't recommend this place enough. The staff is fantastic, the instructors are really helpful and supportive, and it's been a lot of fun and confidence-inspiring. Taking all these things into account while learning something as effective as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it's a win-win. I'm always happy to recommend classes at this location. (The seminars are also worth checking out!) They've really made it easy stepping into something you may have considered but wasn't really sure about - or never thought about at all! Take the leap, give it a try, and be a part of a team that cares about your goals.
The instructors are world class and the lessons learned will be with you for life! Great place for all ages!
Team Renzo Gracie Denville is top notch. George, Vinnie, and the coaching staff challenge my son physically and help to provide some much needed structure and discipline outside of home and school. He knows that he enjoys the Jiu Jitsu classes, but I know that he's developing lifelong self defense techniques while helping him to mature socially and interpersonally.
My son has been taking jiu jitsu there since last winter. George is great, vinnie is really nice with the children. Always a warm greeting from those two. Tom the professor is great with the kids. Overall everyone there are welcoming. And the kids learn and have fun.
I walked in the door at Real World Martial Arts in Denville two years ago with my 3 kids to train BJJ and was warmly welcomed by Professor George (owner) and his staff. Professor George and his staff are Exceptionally professional, friendly and passionate about the art BJJ. I can’t say enough good things about RWMMA. The facility spacious and always kept clean. They have an abundance of Gi and Non-Gi classes to fit my crazy schedule. I just turned 40 last week and I am in the best shape of my life thanks to BJJ. I also enjoy the camaraderie and friendships I have made. Thank you!
Vinne has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met. My son had his first class today and absolutely loved it. The care each one of the trainers take with the kids is impressive
#Denville We thank team @RenzoGracieDenv for protecting #downtowndenville from the wrath of the dragon! You too can learn these skills at their awesome studio!
My son wanted to try jiu jitsu so we signed him up at real world martial arts. This is the best thing we could have done for him. He went from being shy, playing by himself and very careful to being confident, outgoing, brave and trying all sorts of new things. These classes have really taken him out of his shell. Coach Jen and Coach Lizzie are amazing and Professor George is so welcoming the whole experience is wonderful. I would recommend these classes to everyone. Fyi my son started at 4 yrs old and is now 5.
I'm a blue belt, active in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at RMNU South in Tampa, FL. I love to visit other schools when I travel, and can tell you from experience: Real World MMA provides an unusually warm, welcoming atmosphere to anyone interested in the martial arts. It isn't a given that schools from different "houses" of our art will welcome each other, but I felt completely at ease. The black belts are from a strong lineage, and represent themselves and their families well. If you're in this area of New Jersey and are even remotely interested in BJJ or MMA, do yourself a favor and check them out. Take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt, and go see for yourself. I will definitely be back.
I had the privilege to train at this state of the art facility a few times and the atmosphere is electric. Professor George delivers top notch instruction in a fun and inviting environment. If you live in the area you can't find a better academy and group of guys to train with. I highly recommend this place to anyone from beginner to advanced martial artist!!!
When I first looked into a gym in my area, I knew I did not want to be at a conventional gym. I knew that I needed a place that would motivate me and kept me on the right path to becoming physically fit. After researching many gyms in the area and trying to figure out what's best for me, I went to real world mma and I haven't stopped coming since that day. Never have I been anywhere that welcomes you into their community and treats you like family like this place does. As nervous as I was to start my journey, I was quickly put at ease by not only all of the staff members but the people I train with as well. Professor George as well as every other instructor want nothing but for you to reach your goals as well as go above and beyond any expectations that you yourself have. Not only am I doing physical excersise here, but I'm learning self defense which makes the classes I take that much more fun, and because of that you don't realize how good it is for your body while your doing it. Whether you want to do brazilian jiu jitsu, muay Thai kickboxing, or boxing this is the place to be. I'm constantly learning something new from the guys at rwmma and it only makes me want to not only be better in the gym, but outside the gym as well. You won't find better people to learn from that truly take the time to not only teach you, but break things down and make sure you understand what your doing so that you see yourself improving not just month to month, but day to day. I can't thank these guys enough because since I started coming here a whole new chapter of my life has opened and I can't wait to continue training here.
As a complete novice to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I was pretty intimidated by the gyms in the area. They offer beginner classes tailored for people like me. The coaches are willing to work with you, to make sure you're safe and learning in a very positive, welcoming environment. There is a culture to this gym that takes away a lot of the fear. Higher belts are willing to take the time to teach you. Coach Dave is willing to spend the time long after classes are over to help you. This gym is entirely centered around learning this martial art and carrying it on the way the Gracie family intended. No other gym will meet its credentials, staff and group of students. These guys just want you to learn and are willing to work with you when it comes to time and money. This was, without a doubt, worth paying for over a regular gym membership or going to another MMA school.
Top notch instruction. Great atmosphere. I would recommend RWMMA to ANYONE who is even curious about BJJ, Self Defense, MMA, Boxing or Kickboxing. If you have ever considered trying martial arts or learning self defense you should call and stop by. Not tomorrow, not next week, not after the holidays and not after you "get in shape", call now it will be one of the best decisions you have ever made, I know because it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
The bottom line is quality. From beginners to advanced students, the focus remains the same which is mastering your craft and paying close attention to detail. The level of instruction from Professor George and Coach Nix, along with the energetic and goal oriented family of students, are the key ingredients to the success of RWMMA. I began training after being out of BJJ for ten years. Overweight, out of shape and initially reluctant to get back into the art, I was instantly hooked and regained the passion to train (and train hard) as soon as I arrived at Renzo Gracie Denville. I began training in October of 2014 and have lost 40lbs but have gained a competitive spirit, both inside and outside of class, feel super healthier, made few friends and most importantly I feel the most happy that I've been in years. All thanks to my new home at Renzo Gracie Denville. Anyone who's looking to begin the new year on the right path, make a stop at RWMMA. See you on the mat!
I've been training here for almost a year and a half now, and it's even better than I imagined. Having studied some martial arts before (but not BJJ), I did a lot of research before deciding on RWMMA. What sealed the deal for me was that it feels like family - everybody helps each other. Since I've started I've lost some weight (and even more fat), increased both my strength and stamina, learned a new skill, and met quite a few interesting people. If you're a little bit older (I'm 44, was 43 when I started) and are thinking of giving it a try, I strongly recommend both BJJ and RWMMA. BJJ is a great art, and you can go at your own pace when you start. As someone who's a little older, I think it's important to pick a place to train that allows you to train at your level - some places are really geared more towards high-level competitors and people who want to fight MMA. A lot of times you end up being somebody's "sparring partner" and risk getting hurt, thus inhibiting your progress. While RWMMA does have people who compete at a high level (both in BJJ and MMA) that's not the only thing they do. They also train people like me who are primarily looking for fitness and fun. Again, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. It's definitely changed my life for the better.
Training at Real World Martial Arts in Denville has been an overwhelmingly positive experience that has renewed my interest in the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I trained for a short time at another school but it didn't offer everything I was looking for. The quality of instruction at RWMMA is superb, with special focus on technique, and the caliber of students who attend the school make training something that I really look forward to with every class. It seems that George knows almost every student by name, and he's created a training environment that is comfortable for both first-time practitioners as well as more advanced students. Great vibe overall. UPDATE: After training here for a year, I can say I've been very satisfied with my experience at RWMMA Denville. I've gotten to know the instructors and many of the students on a personal level, and I've seen meaningful improvement in my own skills and confidence as well as in those around me. It's still fun to come train.
My decision to start training in BJJ was really a matter of happenstance, but it has been without a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was getting breakfast and I saw someone wearing a Renzo Gracie Denville T-Shirt. I started up a conversation with this guy who happened to be one of the instructors for the school. After we talked for a while, he was about to get in his car and something made me stop him and ask for a card for the school. Ten months later, I'm a thirty-year old in the best shape of his life and it's all because of BJJ! I wanted to mention that story because there's something notable about my conversation with that instructor that day. At no point was he trying to "sell" the school on me. In fact, I had to chase him down for a business card. Now I had only been to a couple martial arts schools in my life, but this was the first time I didn't feel the slightest bit of pressure to sign up that you'll often get at other schools/gyms. Despite that meeting, I'm not gonna lie, I was still a little nervous about checking the school out, but when I came to the school and met Professor George, it was such a relief. He's just such a cool guy and you can tell he cares right from the bat. He takes the time to talk to you and establish what your short and long-term goals might be, concerns you might be having, and basically just everything you'd expect from a guy who loves the sport so much. My first class I was just a ball of nerves, but everyone took me in right from the bat and I have never looked back since. It really is remarkable how the people you train with quickly become like an extended family, and that's honestly something I never would have expected. No one is there to hurt you, they truly want to help you improve so we improve as a team, and that is really awesome! As for the training itself, it never feels stale or repetitive, and that's the beauty of BJJ. More to that point, every instructor at Renzo Gracie Denville offers their own unique style and perspective, so even something you've drilled several classes before can be modified in such a way that it's like learning something entirely new. I've dabbled in a few other martial arts before (Krav Maga, Kenpo, Systema), and quickly lost interest within a few months, but I can honestly say I'm hooked on BJJ. What started as basically a hobby for me quickly bacame a lifestyle, and I can't see that ever changing.
Awesome gym. Clean and well equipped. The instructors know their stuff.
After my yearly membership which was paid in cash . George continued to charge my credit card after I notified him I will no longer attend the gym.
All they care about is the money. They just want your credit card and you can't get them to stop charging after you leave. Don't fall for it.
I was there 3 times in a week. Since the first day I was there George tried to get me to join and pay. I told him I want to checkout the Gym and classes 1st and by the end of my 30 day trial I would have an answer. George told me "if I don't know by now (my 3rd visit and only taking 2 classes )there's no point in continuing my trial . Really! Honor, respect and discipline are important to a martial artist. I guess George missed this lesson. He didn't even honor his own words "30 day free trial " not even a Man of his word! He was one of the most unprofessional black belt I've ever came across. This gym is expensive and has No MMA classes, so I don't know how they say they are an MMA gym (what a joke) George took zero interest in what I was trying to get out of the program. All this guy cared about was my money and when I was going to start paying. I have trained at gyms around the country and no gym that I've been to charges you twice a month. Oh, that scab on your mouth George looks like herpes not a cold sore.
