Never have I seen a group of men and women so dedicated to their passion quite like at Rat Town. The brothers that run the business are beyond what you would ever expect from jujitsu practitioners at their level, and the personal integrity they present and teach is second to none. The mats are incredibly clean and the gym itself is very spacious and accommodating for all ages and for Men and women to train as well. The members are serious about the sport but also very welcoming and gentle on a beginner like myself. They also regularly have seminars with big names across the jujitsu sport. Big respect to Christan and James for being as real as they come.

After being at Rat Town for a month now. I can safely this is an amazing place to train. Being brand new to jiu jitsu I was very nervous, but these guys made it so easy to be comfortable! I’ve enjoyed learning from James and Brad, but I’ve gotten help from almost everyone else. This place is awesome! 5/5 stars!

Rat-Town BJJ is a "Florida Grown" locally owned gym that masterfully blends traditional BJJ w/ a modern, family-friendly approach. Classes are engaging and fun & the coaches are world class, making it an excellent environment for learning. Our family highly recommends their kids' class for ages 3 and up!
James and the guys of rat town made me realize how much I love grappling other men. You know what they say; “you can knock it till’ you try it”.

I can't say enough good about this place. I was very apprehensive to join given my age and the fact that I'm out of shape and just the combat nature of jiu jitsu. I've had years of wrestling experience but that was a long time ago. James and Christian have built a culture of respect and expectation. They welcome everyone - introductions to the other established members along with a little of your background. They understand that jiu jitsu is a journey and that it's going to take awhile to scale into fitness and technique. The other members of Rat Town JJ come up and shake your hand and understand the journey as they are all on their own path to fitness whether it's physical, mental, spiritual or all the above. This is a highly "inclusive" environment and for that I'm very appreciative!
Did a one time drop in from out of town. If I was local here I would be a regular. Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Rat town is an amazing place to train and learn. James and Brad are phenomenal instructors. I am learning lots of cool submission and everyone is so down to earth and makes you feel hella welcome. Overall its a great atmosphere to be in. :)

I been looking around jacksonville for a good jiu jitsu gym and several are not on par and very expensive. Immediately when I saw this place and met several of the students and instructors I knew they were here to train, and that they take it seriously. The training is focused and detailed. The gym is very clean and they maintain a rigorous cleaning routine to keep students safe. Everyone is great to talk to and I couldn't recommend this gym more. If you want to progress in jiu jitsu, and you want to train hard and work with people with that same mindset, then you have found the right place.
As a fat middle aged cripple jiu jitsu was a strange choice for a new hobby but since day one James, Christian, Jasper, Brad, the entire crew at rat town has been welcoming and accommodating. I started a few weeks after opening and things have only gotten better over the last year. Extremely clean facility, mats and floors done after each class not just each day. The day classes are a great way to spend lunch break and the Saturday morning open mat is a great way to start the weekend. Top notch seminars too!

Great spot to train, skilled instructors in a laid back atmosphere. Training area is not too cold and mats are cleaned every class.
Came to drop in for an open mat from out of town. Clean facility, had some great friendly rounds. Brad was nothing but welcoming. Will be back in the future.

I have been training jiu jitsu for a little while and have experienced many academy’s. Ray town is not just a school it is a family oriented welcoming environment where the art of jiu jitsu is an amazing addition to the community and friendships built. I’m a member for life and look forward to my 3 year old daughter starting soon!
My husband has been going to Rat Town since they opened & I can’t say enough great things about them. It’s a family friendly environment that openly embraced our little one and welcomed us with opened arms. He has made some great friends and found a group of guys that truly encourage each other to be better in every aspect of life, not just Jiu Jitsu. I’ve noticed a mental & physical (SUP😍) transformation in him that I can only attribute to rolling 3 times or more per week. It’s definitely harder to keep my hands off of him these days. Rat Town is the place to go for a great roll, great friends & a great time.
I've been off the mats for a few years for injury & surgery. Wanted to start rolling again and several friends mentioned Rat Town Jiu-Jitsu. James, Christian, and the entire team really, have been super welcoming. A great place to roll with lots of really good technique being taught for all levels and drilled in a way that makes it easy to retain. The open bay doors and music make it super relaxing and fun. The gym is always super clean and the entire team takes pride in making sure that is always maintained. I found my spot.

I started at Rat Town, not knowing anything about jiu jitsu. I was just looking for a good place to work out and ended up finding an addiction with a loving, supportive family to back it. The instructor is amazing and the people and awesome. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Hands down, awesome place to train.

I signed up for a membership because the shirts were just SO high quality...seriously though, this place has great vibes and a good group of people to train with. It's approachable but challenging and everyone was so welcoming.

Been to several jiu jitsu schools, no where compares to Rat Town. The vibe there is very welcoming and family tight. I’ve made some great friends while having intense matches. But at the end of the round, there is always the maximum appreciation and respect for each other. Great place to learn discipline and humbleness for the sport and lifestyle of jiu jitsu.
Rat town is like a second home. It is such a welcoming environment. Brad that teaches noon class is super helpful and nice. The owner James is really cool.
I have been wanting to try practicing martial arts(specifically jiu jitsu) most of my life but kept making up excuses. A friend brought me to the gym and after my first class I was hooked. It is a great workout mentally and physically, the members and coaches are super helpful, my only regret is not joining sooner- come get your roll on!

The energy in the gym is infectious and uplifting! I couldn't be more lucky to have a second family here at the Academy. The growth and learning is consistent and digestible. I’m so thankful that Jasper talked my twin brother and I into joining this gym. It’s a great stress reliever and physical outlet. This place is helping me get my boyish figure back (my wife is so grateful for that #NiceBuldge)
THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST GYM, END OF STORY. If you’re wanting to learn jiu jitsu for the first time (like I was), you cannot choose a better place. From the gym itself, absolutely sick, to the incredible coaches and teaching, you will soon find yourself sneaking out, watching videos, and obsessing over jiu jitsu so much that you’ll forget you have a job and responsibilities.

Rat Town Jiu Jitsu gave me my mojo back. On these mats I traded weakness for power. I even got my wife back who left me years ago for another man. After she took me back i dumped her. Who needs her anyway- i have a new family here at Rat Town Jiu Jitsu and this one’s for life.
Proud to say this is first bjj home. Always greeted with smiles and hugs regardless of my experience level. Coaches have never showed an issue to getting even the most inexperienced up to par. Truly speaks to the culture of being from Rat Town!

After searching for many years for a physical activity/form of exercise that doesn't suck, I found the guys at Rat Town Jiu-jitsu. Even as a big guy it was a little intimidating at first but I quickly knew I was in the right place. The fun, progression, and comraderie is nearly equal to a lifetime of skateboarding only much easier on my 52 year old bones
I’ve been a member since day 1. The gym is extremely clean, professionally run, and has a great vibe. I’ve got a busy schedule so I’m grateful for the multitude of classes offered on a weekly basis. James and Christian also do a great job bringing other high level teachers in, both from in and out of town. The kids class is great too; I’ve got both my boys on the mats.
This is an incredible gym, owned by very passionate and talented team of instructors. If you’re looking for a real, solid crew to do jujitsu with, make sure to check this gym out!
Been coming to rat town for about 2 months now and am having a blast. I would 10/10 recommend it to anyone looking for a good workout while also honing self defense skills. My confidence in the ability to protect my family and friends has increased tremendously and I look forward to seeing all the guys there at the end of the day. I’m extremely busy with my business so the flexibility to train at noon or 6 helps a ton with my schedule. James, Christian, Jasper, Dave and the other higher belts take their time in breaking things down for me. Can’t thank these guys enough.
