I am the grandmother of some children that come to this gym. It is without a doubt, the best environment imaginable. The adults promote inclusion, respect for each other, a welcoming atmosphere, and with each class, the kids end up with confidence! Many times kids come to this gym as a result of being bullied, and after time, the kids gain the confidence to know they can take care of themselves, but are taught not to “bully” back. I can’t brag enough about the differences I have personally witnessed in my grandchildren, as a result of the teaching at this gym. If you are searching for something to get your child involved in, I highly recommend this gym. Give them a try, you will be glad you did! Joan Young Happy grandmother

Jax BJJ is a fantastic place for families! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and coach Nelson is amazing with kids. My child feels safe and excited to learn here, and we’ve noticed a big boost in confidence and discipline. The community is incredibly supportive. Highly recommend this studio for anyone looking for a positive, family-friendly environment!

Professor Nelson is my favorite jiu-jitsu instructor. They have a great family day on Saturday and cost is an expensive. All of the people that train there are very nice and helpful. This is definitely a great gym for beginners because everyone is so patient and helpful

The best thing I did as a father is walk in Jax BJJ. My kids and I have trained here for several years. I’ve watched kids grow up in this gym and become better people because of there experiences here. I’ve never met someone with the patience with kids like Professor Nelson. I’ve never seen him loose his cool ever. Always calm and focused. Professors Nelson has a passion for grappling and teaching grappling. If I could give this review 10 stars I would. They defiantly rate it.

My son has been coming here for a year now and it is outstanding. It is a family atmosphere and Professor Nelson does such a great job teaching the kids. I originally brought my son here because he was struggling with bullies at school. The class gave him the confidence he needed and he no longer has issues. 5 stars for sure.

Great atmosphere and training partners all have great hearts which is a reflection of Professor Nelson. My son Murphy is now a student along with me! I can only say that all good things come slow and take time- JAXBJJ gives you that opportunity with a true family feel. I have trained with Professor Shealy at Jax BJJ for 8 years and I would recommend this gym to everyone. I had trained for a number of years at other gyms but once I started at Jax BJJ I knew I had found a home. The atmosphere is great for both the adult program and for the kids program. Everyone at the gym is there for the same goal of improving themselves and helping the other students improve as well. Professor Shealy is a fantastic and knowledgeable instructor, always wanting to assist his students in achieving their next goal.

Great Work Professor Shealy... At Jax BJJ, They use their authority with purpose, They strive for improvement, The BEST kids program I've seen in my 20 years of training, They respect their students and themselves and when you walk through the door you can feel it. At the end of the day, all of the above points relate to this one over-arching point. A truly confident martial arts instructor respects their students and themselves, and this is reflected in how they carry themselves and in everything they do. They sincerely try to do their best to treat people right and make them feel comfortable in their training environment. They try to help their students rise above their challenges, even when it means telling them something they may not want to hear because they need to hear it. They are open, sincere, and accountable to their students, willing to listen when a student has something to say when the forum for discussion is appropriate. They don’t lord themselves over their students, expecting to be put up on a pedestal. In my opinion, someone who teaches martial arts is no better than anyone they teach; they have simply been training longer and this is the kind of professor and senior instructor you get with Professor Shealy and Sara M. Thanks for changing lives.

Professor Shealy is a wonderful BJJ instructor. I had the pleasure of training with him for a weekend in Jacksonville, FL. He give me great feedback on old and new techniques. His teaching is tailored to each student, and he easily helped me with any problems I had. Professor Shealy's children's class was also phenomenal; he has patience and a kind heart with them. I would re-visit his school anytime and recommend it to anyone.

My son and I love this school! The amount of thought and dedication that goes in to the kids-jitsu program has really helped my son with social skills, and school behavior; he has become more attentive with school work and respectful amongst his peers, where he was shy he has become a great group leader. I couldn't be more proud of being a part of something so great. After watching the children for a while,I decided to join in January 2016, in that time I have lost 3 dress sizes and can see my abs again!! I no longer live in constant pain, I have way more energy and feel confidence in a way that I have never known before. ..just to name a few things.

I took my first Jiu-Jitsu class at the age of 38. I was hooked right away. Professor Larry Shealy provides excellent instruction of the "old school" Gracie way. I also really enjoy the combatives "street Jiu-Jitsu" classes. Great place to train in a safe environment with awesome training partners. Highly recommended!!

Larry provides the perfect environment to sharpen your skills, from the novice to the advanced. The approach strikes the perfect balance of practical application and textbook perfect technique. Larry's teaching style coaches everyone up, based on the individual. No mass instruction here. My husband called his coach to cancel his membership in September/October as he was leaving for deployment. Then we got charged another month so I called the gym and left a voicemail on November 29th to find out what the deal was. I never received a call back. Then we got charged ANOTHER month so I called my bank and informed them of the situation. The gym then proceeded to send me a notice saying we owed them for the charge back and then sent it to debt collectors. My husband is and has been deployed while all this has been going on. The gym itself was great but whoever is in charge of finances/billing and communication needs to get their facts straight.
