Monroe is an excellent instructor. I have been training with Monroe since I was 11, so going on 10 years now. I trained sambo and judo since I was very young, and he did a fantastic job finding the correct approach and finding the right grammar and patience to teach me bjj and made it make sense fast. Monroe teaches jiu jitsu principles and is a very mindful teacher who goes much beyond the sport itself and understands deep occulted psychology of athletes. Anyone looking for a supportive group of competitive athletes Monroe hall bjj and American muay thai is the place for you.
This guy Monroe is a professor of authentic Brazilian jiujitsu. Excelling at a level often unseen in today's BJJ industry. A month of frequent regular classes and a complete beginner will be at a level many people don't achieve in a year. I've known professor Monroe since 98 and he's never stopped improving as a student competitor and teacher. He never has drama with his self and conducts things in a happy days kind of vibe. So come on and train with the toughest nice guy in BJJ.
Monroe Hall BJJ is the best! We started as students in his homework class and we now are an all-access, 5-kids-in-daytime-and-evening-classes kind of family. The amount of emotional regulation and self control my children have learned in the last 8 months is amazing.
Monroe is super competent, a great instructor, and creates a safe, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere for all. Love the way he’s always telling us to take care of each other. Highly recommended!
Monroe and the crew are super nice, very patient, knowledgeable from experience competing at the highest levels....and for those with big families..very affordable
Monroe and all the students are very welcoming. Great training partners. The teaching method is unique and effective. A practioner can really excel at a set of techniques throughout a given month as we concentrate on a few positions and thoroughly explore numerous scenarios that can unfold from those positions. Since joining Monroe's gym, my Jiu Jitsu skills have improved significantly! If your on the fence about trying BJJ, just stop by and check it out. Monroe is probably the easiest person to approach about Jiu Jitsu training.
While I haven't made it yet to Monroe's new location, I have know and trained with him over the years. He's a great coach and extremely supportive of his students. Even helping me out at a tournament when my coach could not make it. Great place to train!
Starting at age 15, I would spend more than a decade training directly under Monroe rising to the rank of brown belt in BJJ. I still consider Monroe one of my coaches and more importantly a friend. Monroe is a rare-breed in the martial arts community who is well-versed in self-defense concepts, has actual MMA fighting experience, and stays up to date with current meta strategies & techniques in competitive grappling. Monroe has more than two decades of experience and while he is very skilled himself and an excellent instructor, most importantly, he is a good and kind human being. Monroe loves the martial arts and his passion for sharing that love is obvious. I think his most underrated ability is his knack for working with kids. No matter your goals, you can't go wrong in learning under Monroe and being a part of his program. I highly recommend checking his gym out.
I’ve been at Monroe hall BJJ since May . The curriculum is very well structured and coach Monroe is very knowledgeable and patient while still challenging you to become better. The amount of growth I’ve seen in myself is exciting and a testament to coach Monroe’s skill as a practitioner and teacher. I look forward to every class.
I took a decade off of jiujitsu, just due to life. My friend convinced me to give Monroe’s gym a try. I was hesitant, as an out of shape guy who hasn’t done the sport in so long.
I looked out for what could happen, the meat heads, the bullies, etc. Monroe and I hit it off and it become abundantly clear to me he is a visionary and a true martial artist and would not tolerate anything other than a highly encouraging environment to train in.
About two months in a time or two a week and I am totally comfortable and feel right at home. Honestly, the training is top notch and it’s pretty wild you get that much personal time and attention to your learning from someone so highly ranked and in the game.
Whether it’s to stay in shape, meet great friends, or to become a serious practitioner, just go. You’ll find what you need.
Been working with Monroe for 10+ years now and also my son is now training under Monroe. Very detail oriented and also excellent coach for all ability levels and styles!
