Midtown MMA Houston

  • As a parent, watching your child grow and develop is a priceless experience. When my 5-year-old started BrazilianJiu-Jitsu classes at Midtown MMA Houston, he was a beginner with much to learn. Now, a year later, the transformation is remarkable. Professor Chris, Coach Chris and all the instructors have not only taught my child the techniques of Jiu-Jitsu but also valuable life skills. My child’s self-esteem and confidence have soared, and he always had so much joy on practicing jiu jitsu at Midtown MMA Houston. I highly recommend this academy to any parent looking to enrich their child’s life with martial arts.

  • NOT good for beginners at all! I don’t know anyone who’s able to do 150 crunches off the bat. What’s even the point? That’s ridiculous. Previous gym was great. They worked with me and laid a good foundation. This gym just didn’t care. Edit: Let me clarify. I had attended. I had left. The gym is quite small, dark, and provides 2 bathrooms with showers in them. We were told to line up by most experienced and least experienced. He told me that they do something similar to “ranks” like in BJJ. But it’s not actually a thing. They have a corner with boxing gloves and such. The instructor told us to run and afterwards do crunches. Each student called out the number for each crunch we did. Many gyms offer the option to attend to get a feel for how things work. I realized quickly that this gym doesn’t work for me. I’m a beginner. I realize there’s going to be a learning curve. But that much of a physical excretion for a warm up is a bit much. But if you’re experienced. I’m sure that’s no problem for you. For beginners. I probably wouldn’t recommend.

  • While I have not trained or been to this school I did have the pleasure of meeting the owner at Jujitsu World League in Houston over the weekend. My son competed against two of his students. My son is a talker and I watched as Professor Chris talked with him and engaged him like he was one of his students. Professor even jumped in a coached him in his last NoGi. Afterwards he invited us to visit his school is we were ever back in Houston. I would take my Son here for sure if we were in the area. His skills showed through his students, who both placed along with my Son. But is love for the kids and teaching is what I, as a Dad saw. Thanks again Professor for showing us hospitality.

  • While I elected another kickboxing gym full-time (due to my location and schedule), I was very impressed by the quality of training, dedication of instructors, and the studio! Definitely recommend this place 👍!

  • I've been training BJJ at Midtown MMA for more than a year with no prior experience in this martial art. I'm very grateful to this place and especially to Professor Martinez and Farias. Every class was a challenging and rewarding experience. I especially recommend this place to those who are just starting out. The amount of support beginners get here is fantastic.
