Dante and Kelsey are great. This is not overly formal and it's not a belt factory. It is a great workout in a clean gym with the friendliest instructors. The family classes are a great way to introduce kids to BJJ. And the gym is about to relocate to an awesome new space that's much bigger.
From assessment to our last day, Martial Arts on the go was consistent in their philosophy which (for the little ones – in our case) is one of discipline, self-respect, and respect to others. Coach Dante and his team are professional, knowledgeable, empathetic, and patient. You can tell they love what they do and love working with children. Our child enjoyed the time there and looked forward to going back every time. I strongly recommend Martial Arts on the go, I know that you will not regret joining this team.
A neighbor recommended Coach Dante’s Summer Camps last year, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made! My boys, ages 8 and 6, are enrolled in both the weekly program and the summer camp with Coach Dante and Coach Antonio, and they absolutely love it. The coaches are flexible, patient, and not only focus on martial arts training but also emphasize both of my kids to be good people. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
My daughter absolutely loveds the coaches and the Little Dragons Class. It is the perfect mix of discipline, fun, instruction and exercise. The owner/coach is amazing and very easy to stay in contact. Him and his staff is able to manage a class of 3-8 years old kids. Keeping them motivated and interactive is no easy feat and they do it with positivity while maintaining a standard every class. It was our first organized activity for our young daughter and Little Dragons night quickly became her favorite night of the week. 100 percent recommend Martial Arts On the Go for all ages.
One of the best, if not THE best, martial arts schools for kids. Sensei Dante is not only a fantastic martial artist, but he's able to fold that into teaching children of all ages. Myself and my daughter go to his school for family jiu-jitsu, where effective and responsible lessons are taught to adults and kids alike. His ability to make classes fun also transcends to adults as well with 100% valid, accurate, and practical techniques. I've taken martial arts throughout my life for years and years throughout the country through all aspects of my life. I'll confidently recommend Sensei Dante and Martial Arts on the Go each and every time.
My family has been training with Dante for the better part of a decade. He is patient, humble, and always willing to go above and beyond for his students. Co-instructor Kelsey frequently introduces new programs to keep things fresh, and their partnership with Capital MMA adds even more variety in training options. Good people, true martial artists.
My two children (14 and 8) and I have been training with coach Dante for 5.5 years and I cant say enough how lucky we are to have come across this dojo! Not only Dante has an absolutely amazing environment that promotes respect, discipline, and friendship among all the trainees young and seasoned alike, he also personally cares for the success of each student. This is rare as we have tried multiple dojos but it felt like it was just business for them. For Dante teaching martial arts seems to be the way of life and his path to do good for the community - not just a subscription based business trying to sell you yet another belt. He’s a black belt under Hoyce Gracie so he is technically brilliant in bjj, and on top of that, he is a black belt in taekwondo and knows about a whole range of martial arts and their philosophies. My entire family has greatly benefited from Dante’s deep expert knowledge of jiujitsu because we have learned a great deal on how to defend ourselves against various real life situations including dealing with bullies and potential street attacks. Under his guidance my children improved enough to successfully compete in the local bjj competitions. I can also definitively say that over the years he made major contributions to the best qualities in my children such as discipline, perseverance, attention to detail, respect, and courage. As a result of his classes we all feel more confident, accomplished, and optimistic about the future because Dante keeps finding ways to keep things nice and fresh. Another huge plus is that Dante’s entire family is involved. His wife coach Kelsey is also a very accomplished martial artist and plays a crucial role in all the preparations for competitions as she regularly competes herself at the highest level. His children train along other students and his son is a role model for his peers because he’s extremely good at bjj and mma for his age. Overall, Martial Arts on the Go has been basically a godsend for our family and we plan to stick with it for a long time!
I've been training in martial arts for over 50 years. This has been the most welcoming environment I have ever been in to continue training, learning, and improving. Coach Dante' enlightens and empowers his students at all levels to strive to do more than they thought they were capable of.
I have been training Gracie Jiu Jitsu under the guidance of Dante Herrera for close to 8 years now. He is a tremendous instructor and top notch person and good friend…His knowledge base of Jiu Jitsu is very deep and he takes the time to learn exactly what each individual student needs. I sometimes attend the family class and I see first hand how great both Dante and Kelsey are with the children. They balance sensitivity and safety with real martial arts training that the kids could actually employ in any self-defense scenario. Like Dante and Kelsey, I’ve been doing martial arts for a long time (since the late 80’s) and have had a lot of good instructors. Dante and Kelsey are simply the Best!!
I've been training with coach Dante for 10+ years. He's a great teacher and friend. I don't live close by but I always make it out for class a few times a month. His school is clean and the students are super friendly. My kids are now old enough to train and they love coming to see Dante as well!
My kids have been learning from Coach Dante for the past two years and their confidence and self control levels have increased greatly. I have also been training at this gym for over half a year now which is unlike me since I am not a social person. However, i have gotten to love the martial art under Coach Dante and also love the fact that I am part of a community who tries to help each other be better.
Fantastic staff - the coaches definitely know their stuff, and are fantastic on a personal level. Me and my son both love coming here!
I’ve been taking Jiu Jitsu classes at Martial Arts on the Go/Capital MMA Fairfax for almost 3 years now. Dante and Kelsey are the BEST coaches, and are also really amazing and inspiring human beings. I take the adult, family and ladies classes, and can attest to them being just as wonderful with the kiddos as they are teaching the adults. You won’t find a better studio anywhere else!!!
I've been studying with Coach Dante for just under three years and have attended adult and family BJJ classes regularly. He has established a purposefully warm and welcoming culture that makes the difficult study of self-defense a true joy to attend. I see regular growth and progress in my skills, as a testament to his curriculum and competence. Further, I am highly impressed by his enthusiasm working with children, showing a true passion for teaching.
My entire family comes here to train. Dante and the other instructors are amazing. Definitely worth checking out. There’s something for everyone.
Excellent coaches, very clean and organize. Besides teaching Martial Arts, they teach kids discipline and respect. Highly recommend it.
My jiu-jitsu game and knowledge changed since training at Capital MMA/Martial Arts On the Go in Fairfax. Professor Dante is extremely helpful, positive, and encouraging. I plan to take my kids here one day! It's a supportive environment. The best part about training BJJ here is the family feel atmosphere. People are friendly, kind, and helpful. I've made life-long friends here. The location is in a great spot. You can do some heavy training and then walk to Chick-fil-a after! I wish I found the place sooner, or at least tried a trial class years ago!
Dante and the other instructors at Martial Arts on the Go (and its affiliation with the Capital MMA family of martial arts schools) has literally changed my life. Thanks to Dante's fun, positive, growth-mindset approach, I've lost weight, gained muscle and a ton of confidence, and had so much fun learning some very difficult martial arts and life skills. I'm a career middle school teacher, so I can spot good teachers a mile away. Dante and Kelsey are phenomenal. I tried out some other schools before settling on this one and the others were either too competition-minded, super meathead-y and aggressive in all the wrong ways, too expensive, or had fancy facilities but instructors that kinda didn't know what they were doing. Being a great fighter does NOT make you a good martial arts instructor. Dante is a fantastic teacher - he's kind, humble, flexible, super dedicated, has a great sense of humor, and he really GETS how to engage little kids, teenagers, and adults. I just don't know where to start describing how much I've enjoyed my past year of coming to classes with him. Even if I were to move out of the Fairfax area, I would commute back to Martial Arts on the Go.
My family has taken classes here for the past several months. The instructors (Dante and Kelsey) are fantastic. They are really great with kids. Aside from martial arts techniques themselves, there is a strong focus on patience, self-confidence, self-control, and compassion for others. Most important to me, they do not run a "belt factory" where a 5 year old becomes a black belt in 2 years. The kids are taught how to deal with failure and when the time comes for promotions, they've earned them. They also offer camps and parent nights out, which my kids have had great experiences with. The adult classes and special seminars like women's self defense are also top notch.
I've been training Jiu-jitsu at Dante's for over 5 years, and I love it. It's the best school around for sure. Both my kids also take classes with Dante for the last few years. There is no better martial arts teacher out there for both kids and adults.
Let me start by saying that I am not the type to leave reviews normally. But in this case, I want to because I could not be happier with Dante and MAG. My son just started at MAG in September and he just LOVES to go. He has learned a lot already in such a short amount of time and I really like how Dante teaches them not only about Martial Arts but also about life lessons. For example, the kids always say hi to me when I come in the studio (because Dante teaches them so. It may seem like a small thing, but to me that is actually an important lesson) Dante has a gift with kids and they really love him. I absolutely recommend MAG!!
My son has attended both summer camp and the after school program at Martial Arts on the Go (“MAG”). I rarely write reviews. Martial Arts on the Go deserves to be recognized as FIVE STARS. My son has attended other summer camps and martial arts programs but none come close to the hands-on individual attention and care that Mr. Dante Herrera provides to all of his students. Prior to sending my son to MAG, I spoke with several other parents and did my research and all of the parents who I spoke to highly praised MAG and I must agree with them. I love the fact that I have seen the positive influence that this program has had on my son. I will continue to support Martial Arts on the Go and I highly recommend MAG and Mr Dante Herrera to any parent.
If you want the BEST instructor, go with Dante Herrera at Capital MMA. I am brand new to the sport and Dante has been singularly outstanding! Patient, knowledgeable, and highly skilled, Dante’s teaching style is simultaneously rigorous and measured. I never feel rushed or over my head, but I always feel CHALLENGED! He’s a premier coach and instructor - Five stars!
Cannot say enough about how GREAT Martial Arts on the Go Fairfax is! my two boys and my daughter have gained so much confidence and discipline while having tons of fun! Dante is a terrific coach professional and knows how to handle kids I guess my kids like him that’s why they kept attending his class since October of last year, Dante is everything you want in instructor. Finally, the cost . . . you won't find a better deal anywhere especially a family plan one flat fee per month and everyone can join including parents. Thank you
I love this place for both myself and my son. The instruction is engaging and does a great job of quickly getting newcomers up to speed. I love that it's not a belt factory and really focused on the personal elements.
I took a 6 week self-defense course with Kelsey and couldn't be more pleased! She showed moves to help get out of any situation you can think of. What I liked best is that she reiterated all the basics at the beginning of each class, so they were drilled into our head. I also got there early a few times and saw the tail end of the little kids class. If I lived closer - I would definitely sign my kids up. What and how they teach the kids was perfect. Highly recommend this studio and Kelsey!!
We had an amazing experience until 2 months after I was late picking up my son. That day I was running late from work and got stuck in traffic. I apologized profusely and Dante said it was fine and he understood. He had to go somewhere and told me he left my son with someone. I forget who he left my son with at the gym, but he did, and I felt like I had to be okay with it because I was late. Fast forward two months later, he emailed me a very professional but very rude email that maybe my son can go somewhere else, and he threw in my face how I was late two months prior. I honestly thought he cared about my son and wanted to help him, but he is the most fake person. And he’s really good at it so it goes unnoticed unless you have an issue with something and then he goes off like he did with me. I definitely let him know how disappointed I was and as soon as I could, I withdrew my son from after school. Never again.
