Had the pleasure of attending a seminar by Mario Sperry in MA. Prof. Sperry is gracious, funny, and has the legendary credentials to back up his teaching. He taught a cohesive approach to the position we were covering (back control) which really leveled up my game in that position.

Best Brazilian JiuJitsu gym in town! I've taken a few clases at Mario's and I got nothing but great things to say, from the moment I walked in, I was treated with respect, they do not care if you have 0 to none skills, him and Thiago welcomed me like a family member, everyone is respectful and super knowledgeable about JiuJitsu. Also, I've seen their kids class, if you have a child definitely would recommend to bring them and have them try the gym, they have fun, and build character while learning a life-changing skill like jiujitsu!

I've been training at Mario Sperry Jiu-jitsu for 3 years. The Jiu-jitsu is world class and speaks for itself. Just google the name. But what really makes the difference are the quality human beings that train at this gym. If you want to meet some amazing people and learn a useful skill set stop in and introduce yourself.

I attended a trial class at Mario Sperry Jiu Jitsu in May 2022 with little idea of what to anticipate. Jumping ahead to April 2023, after 11 months, I managed to secure the gold in my second tournament, all thanks to the invaluable guidance of the renowned Master Mario Sperry and the wonderful community of fellow training partners. I can't envision a more ideal training environment than at Mario Sperry Jiu Jitsu.

Professor Sperry was very welcoming and friendly. I came by for an open mat while visiting La familia in town. It was an easy 30 min warm up / walk on the way to the gym from the bricole area not challenging to find at all. The students were very technical and two of the upper belts were very open with sharing with me some positional things I could adjust in my game. One of the beauties of training in different places while traveling is being able to help other practitioners and exchange friendly details. I will definitely come by again for more training lots of space in the environment and very clean!

A great place to train and very friendly atmosphere for beginners. Mario is a legend, not only a top fighter but also a methodical teacher. Also, I appreciated that there are kickboxing classes available too, with a very skilled coach, as well as frequent no gi classes!

I've been training with Mario for over a month now, always a great session, you leave learning a lot, having a good workout and really looking forward to come back. He finds ways to lighten up the mood, brings in real world scenarios or ways to win points in competition, and always answers any questions to make sure everyone completely gets it. 10/10 recommend to kids, adults and teens, even started bringing one of my friends and he loves it too!

4 years walking through the door of this place 5+ days a week. 10/10 for cleanliness. bathrooms/ change rooms are spotless. If you want a legitimate place to learn jiu jitsu from one of the greatest practitioners of all time, look no further. Whether you are looking for an introduction to the sport, or you are a hobbyist, or if you have competitive aspirations , MSJJ does it all. Kick boxing / boxing classes available too with a high level sticking coach. World class training available to whoever wants to step through the door. The kids classes are always packed in a VERY safe environment. See you there!

By far the best jujitsu gym in the downtown Miami area. I visited 3 before I stepped foot into Mario Sperry’s gym. And I’m glad I ended up here. Mario and his team take their time to teach beginners, and even the higher level belts explain proper technique when rolling with someone below their expertise. I go 4 times a week, and it is easily one of my favorite things to look forward. Rewarding hard work. If you are looking for a great jujitsu gym this is it.

Large and very clean gym. Prof Mario is the man, truly a legend. I was referred to this jiu jitsu gym from a very good friend, (no better marketing than "word of mouth") ...... I am a veteran and just recently discovered JiuJitsu as an amazing outlet for dealing with my PTSD and other issues........I went and tried it out and didnt look back. You will lose weight and Mario will challenge you to get better which is something I really appreciate from him..... Learning Jiu Jitsu and other combat sports offered at Mario Sperry and practicing those skills can one day be a life saver or just come in really handy.

As a person with 0 experience in Jiu Jitsu, and a person that had been out of the martial arts game for over 2 decades, having the change to learn from a real fighter, a real legend like Sensei Mario Sperry is an another level experience. He is very professional and respectful teacher along with the rest of his staff. Most classes are conducted by this legend himself. He knows how to take you thru your own right path for you to learn the right way (not necessarily the easy way lol) He is very detail oriented and he and the rest of his staff and students will make you feel home. Amazing place to train jiu-jitsu/MMA and get a workout in. This place offers a lot of things that you cannot get anywhere else. Above all, you get to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from a living legend and pioneer of jiu-jitsu. Mario Sperry even teaches the beginner's jiu-jitsu class, which is like Michael Jordan teaching regular people how to play basketball. It is a huge honor to learn from Mario, he is very thorough in teaching the techniques and also very patient. The MMA/Kickboxing coach Javier Oyarzabal is also amazing and has a very solid resume in mixed martial arts as well. Another thing that sets them apart is their attention to detail. As an attorney I have learned that being able to slow down and understand the intricacies of complex subjects is what often makes the difference between being good and being excellent. Mario and Javier know every intricate detail of their craft and they are able to teach it extremely effectively. In a short amount of time I have learned a lot from Mario and Javier. I thank God I found this place. It is a huge blessing. I highly recommend to anyone and everyone who wants to challenge themselves, get a great workout and learn a very valuable craft. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Regardless of your age, weight, or experience with combat sports, you will feel welcome and find incredible support from the team and students at Mario Sperry Jiu Jitsu. Mario himself teaches most classes and, as a living legend in BJJ and MMA, there’s no one better to teach what actually works on a fully resisting opponent. The academy has lots of mat space and new, clean bathrooms with showers. I came in for a free trial class and was sold.

As a woman and a beginner, I immediately felt welcomed in the gym. Everyone has been extremely respectful and friendly - feels like a family. I really couldn't believe I was lucky enough to find Mario and Pedro. Words can't do them justice in a review. The whole club is well run, informal but yet very professional. They are the most encouraging and motivating people you could find, and they instill that attitude in all of their students. Yes, it's a challenge and yes it's a journey not a destination, but if you've ever thought about learning more, just do it. You won't be disappointed. Just search for Mario or Pedro, their history speaks for itself and they are the real deal. They aren't there to just make money, they really care, they treat you like family and they make sure you really learn everything as well as it can be learned. I came here very middle aged,, and quite a bit overweight. I still can't believe how encouraging and helpful everyone's been. It's without a doubt one of the best decisions I've made. And if you stop by, I promise you a week or two later, you'll be saying the same thing.

I was lucky enough to be in downtown Miami and have some time to train at this excellent gym. I've been training in BJJ for MMA for over 8 years and have train in many gyms. Coach Sperry is an awesome instructor. He has cultivated an enthusiastic culture of hard work, fun and discipline that makes this gym both a pleasure to train at, and a place where you will learn Jiu jitsu that is practical, effective and self defense-relevant, whether as a child or an experienced adult. And to boot it's in an incrediblly convenient location for anyone in Miami or South Beach.

This response to a bullying incident is soooo outrageous! "As you did not speak about your problem with the main person in charge, and more over, left a very negative review, we could not do much." WHAT IS THIS?! In order for him to act is by talking to the "main person" and "leaving a positive review? How about speaking with A PERSON? isn't that enough? Shame on those who call themselves educators and members of the community. This is exactly what is happening in our schools, social media platforms, etc. Something most be done!!! Seriously!!!???? is that your response to a comment about a little kid that’s being bullied on your watch!!??? “Go out there and let us know how it goes”!!!!???? Like you have no responsibility for this kid safety and well being, as a teacher and as a human being? No intent to investigate, to say the least, what is going on in your school? I believe that the core principles or pillars of martial arts are still discipline, respect, and patience, but evidently, not in your gym. My son took judo classes when he was little (I can give you the name of the place because it is still around— too bad is far from where they live) and the most important things he was taught early on was, 1) follow the rules, 2) discipline, and 3) respect, that's why he enrolled his son in your martial arts school, to learn the technique but also to form him as a respectful adult. You might have a million medals and hold a 6th degree black belt, but you are clearly does not care about discipline and respect, responsibility, or the safety of your little students entrusted to you to teach and guide them. What type of gym are you running, a daycare for little kids or a place where values and respect are also taught as part of the package? such a disgrace to the sport and such a lack of respect to the community and parents! I definitely second the idea of a full review, by either the WFMAF, USJJF, USJJO, IBJJF, and any other regulator out there!
