Was in town for a week, dropped in for a few days. Jason, was extremely welcoming and a great instructor. Everyone was very welcoming and got some great rolls in. Thanks all!
Was looking for a place to drop in while visiting town. I reached out to several of the highly reviewed gyms around KC and Jason was the only one to get back to me. I'm glad he did. The mats were clean and his students were welcoming. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in the area.
This is an excellent gym. The training partners are knowledgable and respectful. Jason’s instruction is technical, detailed, and very much his own style. Stop by for some glamour shots!
I'm a traveling bjj athlete, and this gym has a great culture of grapplers. The professor has great techniques and an awesome environment inside his gym. I definitely recommended this gym if you live in the kc area or just traveling through
Great place to train for all the misfit girls and boys! Jason provides a high level of instruction without stifling creativity
Very welcoming and such a great vibe!!!
Was traveling for work and Jason said I could swing by and join their 6am class. Great group to roll with and excellent technique drills. Definitely worth the 12 minute Uber from down town Kansas City. Thank you again!!
I was visiting KC for work and dropped in for a class. Awesome instruction and people. Zero ego when working/rolling with others. I highly recommend them!
Awesome open mat. Black, brown, and purple with zero ego. We had great roll and learned from each other. I will be going back.
Finally after a year of this, I'm starting to see my son win matches. I don't think he's very into it yet, but it's so close to our house and exercise he needs right now. Fingers crossed he keeps it up. When I'm finished nursing an injury, I might even have the guts to take adult beginner classes. It's on my bucket list.
Amazing place to train. Jason Bircher the head coach is a Jiu-Jitsu wizard!
I visited KCBJJ a couple of weeks ago while traveling for work. Jason is a great guy and a phenomenal instructor. The gym has a great culture and I learned a lot in the two classes I attended. I can't wait to come back and train in the future.
Super clean very nice people to practicing
Visited from Orlando and was warmly received by Jason, the owner. The team was respectful and welcoming as well. Would definitely recommend for anyone local or visiting!
THIS REVIEW IS FOR THIER KIDS PROGRAM!!! BLUF: We have been to about 5-6 BJJ gyms north of KC… had to drive 40 minutes to find this gem… and it’s worth it! I HIGHLY Recommend. KCBJJ offers BJJ for kids 3 days a week: Tues and Thursday at 6PM. Then Saturday 9:30-10:30 no gi. Pro: 1. Jason Bircher is the BB who leads class and is fantastic with kids. He commands respect from all ages. 2. He has about 7 instructors for about 20-25 kids. Plenty of eyes for safety. 3. Jason teaches Tues and Thurs class. Saturday he has a Brown belt teaching. Meaning you get top notch instruction (often 1-1 if they see kids are struggling) for the kids! 4. The location has plenty of room for training and rolling! 5. The kids do about 20 minutes of rolling a night and often class goes a bit over! 6. Class is officially an hour, but after a month of coming here, I have yet to see class end in an hour. More like 1 hour and 20 minutes! 7. Culture is unmatched… kids who get to class early start rolling and practicing on their own. No adults tell them to start practicing. I’ve only seen this at one other BJJ gym… in GA! 8. Rank and belts are earned. Stripes are not given for attendance but for effort. Most kids are white belts… but don’t let that fool your kid! These are the meanest white belts in KC! 9. This is the biggest kids program I have seen in 5 different BJJ gyms (at least bigger than any kids BJJ program in northern KC)
I was in town for the weekend & stopped by for 2 classes. The gym was great, clean, and full of awesome people. It was an awesome experience and Jason (the instructor) was awesome. The instruction was top tier & it is very organized. Great vibes. They didn't charge me for class either. 10/10 would recommend.
In town for the week and dropped in to train here while in town. Jason was very welcoming and so was everyone at the gym! Made me feel right at home on day 1. You can tell it's a good culture here with everyone looking out for each other. Learned a few things due to great instruction from both Jason and Carlos. They break down techniques in a way that makes sense - paying attention to each detail. Got some tough rolls in also. I'll be back when in town again. Highly recommend to anyone.
Watched a tournament here. It was well conducted and easy to watch numerous matches at a time.
The range of experience is in this place is wide and deep. You will learn a lot. If you’re looking for a place to drop in for some good rolls, look no further. And if you’re looking for a brand of jiu jitsu that you can take anywhere, you’ve found the right place. Great people too!
Extremely welcoming environment with fantastic instruction by Jason. I cannot recommend this gym enough for those who want to dip their toes into bjj. I can't wait to come back for more.
Excellent experience! I was in town for business and dropped in for a 6am class today. Jason and the crew gave me an awesome workout. I'll be back! Thank you!
Positive and welcoming environment for all skill levels. Jason is an exceptional teacher, and has a number of coaches that assist in the kids classes who are also skilled instructors. Highly recommend!
What an amazing place! I’m so impressed by the training and instruction I received here. The gym is laid back, extremely clean, and feels like home for everyone who comes. The instructor Jason has never met a stranger. Look no further!!
I coached a youth judo program that went along with the youth jujitsu program for quite a few years here before moving out of town. Without a doubt the very best club I've been a part of. Owner/Instructor Jason Bircher is the best youth coach in the city. By far. We worked with kids of all ages, skill sets and personality types, ensuring an amazing experience for all youth. The overall goal being to teach the kids about a great sport, and instilling confidence in them where other facets may have failed. My best times coaching will always be at this place. This club will always be home, and I recommend anyone new to the sport to check it out, I promise a great experience!
This is a gym full of killers. But very friendly vibe as well. Would be a great place to train, especially for comp-oriented folks!
Great job!
Dropped by for the 6am class while in town on business. Cool people, great vibe, and great rolls.
Steven Graham if you read this tell me if you remember hammer fist and sharshock at ATT
One of the best Jiu Jitsu schools in the KC Metro area. Professor Jason Bircher has created a gym where people from all backgrounds (beginner to professional) can learn the sport and elevate their game all under one roof. Whether you live in KC or just passing through...KCBJJ is the best gym to train at in the metro area.
My son has learned so much! Not only jujitsu but confidence and aggressiveness.
Excellent instruction with years of coaching experience. Great youth programs included. Self defense, discipline, and full body workout all in one!
Professor Jason is running the most amazing academy hands down! The classes here are huge, filled with beasts! I cannot recommend it enough. Whether you’re brand new, or a high ranked practitioner, you will love this place. Not too many places have this many black belts on the mat. I think this helps control the tempo too. Nobody is trying to kill each other or spaz out- it’s just a place to grow and learn. I cannot recommend this academy enough! Drop in and see for yourself, and prepare to be treated like family the moment you step on the mat :)
I have owned 2 gyms and trained at many others and I can honestly say that Jason is the best instructor and this team is one of the best groups I’ve had the privilege of training with. I came into this gym with over 10 years of experience but my Jiu Jitsu technique and competition strategy improved more in 10 months than it had in over 10 years. I recommend KCBJJ to people of all ages and experience levels and can promise you will gain a great amount of knowledge training with this team.
The teaching is very in depth and detailed. Every small thing to improve your technique is taught. I absolutely love this school. And everyone is very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place to everyone who wants to get into jiu jitsu, or simply improve!
Jason Witt Trained here!
I dropped in to watch a beginner GI class. I figured it would be what I was most interested in doing first. As they warmed up Jason, the owner and lead instructor. Stopped, and introduced himself. He asked if I was just there to see what they get up too. I said yes. He told me if I had any questions just ask. I watched the class, and overheard several students asking one another about limits and injuries so as to keep from hurting one another. The amount of respect and intensity was definitely good to see. Being completely new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I had many questions for Jason after the class. He took the time to explain half a dozen or more things to me while his next class was arriving. I never felt as though I was keeping him from his next class or that any of my questions were silly. Even if I never take a class here, this is the atmosphere I want when I do decide to take a class like this. Thank you Jason.
Stopped in here for an open mat and this place has the best music. Would recommend just for the metal
Grate place to learn and grow!
I've been training since September of 2020 from the beginning its been a great experience Jason is a great teacher highly recommend coming in
Jason is an amazing instructor and his gym is full of welcoming and talented students. I highly recommend them.
I stopped in here to roll while traveling for work. I was welcomed with the exact vibe I hoped to encounter - a friendly team looking to get after it. Had some solid rolls and the head instructor pulled me aside to ask if I was new. I told him I was in town for work and he said “just trying to shake off the plane ride with a roll?” It told him yes and he waived the day fee because he could see I needed it. That’s what it’s all about. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the KC area.
I was in KC for work and Jason and his crew made me feel right at home. They had a good combination of skill levels and they helped me work on my game. I highly recommend stopping by and giving KCBJJ a try!
As a traveling white belt I worry about finding a quality, safe and welcoming place to train. KCBJJ met and exceeded my expectations. I vastly improved my passing, bottom escapes, and open guard submissions in particular. My wife and I both felt safe training. For women they do have some women only classes, check the website and FaceBook group. People were fun and occasionally even funny. 😉 A great place to visit and train long term. Great job Jason! Oh and competitors watch out if you see a KCBJJ patch, it’ll be a tough roll.
I drop in here when I am in town for work. Jason, the head instructor, is very welcoming to visitors. He leads a great class and answers questions anyone has. I always get some great rolls after as well.
What a great place to train!! I was visiting KC on business and wanted to get a class in, called Jason and he said come on. Eddie was the instructor and so helpful, even with me being from out of town they treated me like I train there all the time. Everyone was so welcoming and I can’t wait for the next time I’m in KC to drop in!
The mothership of Kansas City Brazilian Jiujitsu hands down!
I was visiting KC for work this week and dropped in to KCBJJ. The guys were extremely welcoming, the gym had a great atmosphere and the instruction was on point. 10/10 would recommend!
Everbody was very nice
Love it!
I train regularly in the Oklahoma City area, but I often visit KC to visit family. Every time I'm up, I try to find some time and visit this awesome gym! The staff is very welcoming, and the jiu jitsu is on point!
Dropped in for training while traveling. Very positive atmosphere. Clean mats and locker room. Great instruction. Welcoming training partners. Lots of higher belts. This is a great place to train - period. Thanks, Jason!
Inclusive gym with an almost palpable positive feeling of community. The instructors are high level and terrific educators for every skill level. Best gym/training decision I’ve ever made.
it is very interesting! what is necessary for every person
Great place to hone your grappling skills. Many people from a variety of backgrounds size and skill level. An awesome club!
This place Is amazing! Great instruction and great people! Good for all ages.
Great school, nice people. Very welcoming and knowledgeable to someone just passing through.
I was visiting Kansas City and trained with Jason and his crew at KCBJJ all week. They were very welcoming and generous, and good jiu-jitsu players! There was plenty of mat space, and the class times worked perfectly for me. In my opinion, the only improvement to be made would be if they could add a shower. I've trained at countless BJJ studios, and this is one of my favorite. I'll definitely visit again any time I'm in town.
Best BJJ instruction in southern Kansas City.
This is a great place to train for adults (men and women) and children. For adults there is BJJ (gi and no gi) and Judo and for children there is BJJ (gi and no gi), Wrestling and Judo. My kids and I train here and love it. It is an inviting atmosphere with tons of skilled world class practitioners. Jason and the coaches are great with kids and adults alike. I've been to a lot of schools in my life and this is by far the best one which is why I call it home.
Simply the best.
The best in Kansas City!
Very nice team, top notch instructions from Jason. Highly recommended!
Kansas City is lucky to have such a great a talented school/instructor
I was in town for a day, looking to train. I highly recommend KCBJJ. They have a great group of men and women. The head instructor is very knowledgeable and super cool. Everyone was friendly and easy to roll with. Thanks KCBJJ, I hope to visit again soon!
Great grapplers, good instruction. Changing room has zero privacy so if that concerns you come already in the Gi. No showers at the location either. Mats aren't always super clean and I watched a few guys go into the restroom without shoes on then get back on the mats. Which is gross considering the likelihood of someone getting their face smashed in the excact place they just tracked piss from the restroom floor. No AC either so make sure you are well hydrated prior to a class and bring water with you, especially throughout summer. Often starts rolls from knees. Not sure why, the had plenty of space. Seems to use sub only rules, but still have safe application of subs like heelhooks and positions like knee reaping. Which demonstrates a solid understanding of those positions throughout the gym. Only had a distasteful experience rolling with one guy, but he might have just been having a bad day. Not much understanding of IBJJF rules. Not that it matters much, more of something to be aware of. If you plan to train here and compete IBJJF, you should probably invest in a official rules course.
Best vibe ever!!!
If you are new to jiu jitsu or the KC area, seek instruction elsewhere. Highly immoral gym owner
One of the more established gyms in the area but I would recommend staying away from this one. Instruction is ok but Jason doesn't really spend much time developing his students and everyone mainly learns from each other. Gym also feels very dirty compared to some other local options. There is also lots of drama with said instructor and female students that impacts the entire culture of the gym. I would check out Glory, Warriors, or Gracie Barra before attending this school.
