I’ve been training at IJJ for about 10 months now and it’s had a huge positive impact on my life. It’s not always easy to try a new thing and be a complete beginner as an adult , and the environment that you start out in is crucial to how you will develop and whether you’ll stick with it. Integração has beyond exceeded my expectations in this regard. Starting with Gabriel the instructor, who you can tell not only has a master level understanding of jiujitsu; But more importantly, can break it down in a way that anyone can easily understand and learn. This is a truly vital quality I’ve recognized in all the best teachers I’ve ever had. Hilarious and fun guy to talk to as well! It was clear to me how much this has spread through out the rest of the gym when many of the higher belts would come up to me after class to help with some of the moves I was struggling with. There is no ego, and everyone is just trying to help each other out and get better. Professor Gabriel is the best! He worked with me when I was recovering from a TBI, helping me to restore my body maps so that I could become comfortable in my own skin again. He grew up with a father that showed him that disabilities don’t have to be disabling, so he saw potential and empowered me without letting my injury hold me back. I've trained with Gabriel and some of the team in the past and their kindness and compassion are the main reason why I'm happy here and knew where I wanted to go to start up again. What's important to me is safety and care and all the folks I've trained with have been caring folks looking out for one another. Really enjoy training here. Gabriel is a great instructor - knowledgeable, eager to teach, & easy going. He takes time with students of all levels, pointing out nuances to help each improve. These qualities expand into the culture of the gym with students rolling and training hard but also taking time to help each other learn the techniques. ***** I’ve been with this gym for nearly 1 1/2 yrs and wanted to provide an updated review over that time period. A bit of background for perspective. I’m a lower belt who is older, starting BJJ in my late 40s. I try to average 3 classes a week. I’ve done drop-ins at other gyms and trained with individuals from other gyms as well. I continue to highly respect Gabriel and the other students here who from day 1 were welcoming, encouraging, and help me to progress. When I first started, I was nervous about being smashed by upper belts or much bigger guys. Gabriel and the other gym members have always been cognizant of differences in skill levels or size differences. From the 1st time I rolled with Gabriel himself and all subsequent times, I can tell he changes his exertion and level to accommodate me; he uses the roles to gauge my level and progression and provide feedback to me. During rolling sessions Gabriel will pair students for the 1st few roles. He might pair students of similar skills. When he pairs higher belts with lower belts, they have been instructed or already know to modulate their level so that the roll remains safe and allows both students to learn/progress. While this is also true at other gyms I have trained at, I can say Gabriel is even more cognizant than other gyms. When it comes to women, he usually pairs them with other women unless he is sure they are comfortable rolling with guys and that the guys are aware to modulate their strength and exertion. I’ve NEVER seen someone put in an unsafe situation. The gym has been recently expanded with much greater mat space and that has been great to accommodate some of the larger classes, and space has not been an issue. I continue to be happy with my training here and look forward to each class I attend.

I have been training at Integracao for a few months and joining this gym is the best decision I have made. Professor Gabriel is one of the top black belt coaches in the world. He is great at teaching jiu jitsu techniques to students of all levels, presenting them in a way that makes it easy for beginners to understand and giving variations for the more advanced students. Professor Gabriel makes sure everyone feels welcome and safe. On my first day, he took me aside and taught me fundamental warmup drills and jiu jitsu positions so that I wouldn't feel lost in the class. The class sizes are small which is great for personal attention, and Professor watches everyone closely to ensure we are practicing the techniques correctly and keeping each other safe. The gym is very spacious and clean and even includes a shower. Professor thoroughly disinfects the mats before every class to maintain a sanitary environment. One of things I really like is how organized the classes are, with the Professor assigning each of us suitable partners to practice the techniques that are taught. This goes a long way towards keeping everyone safe and I look forward to each class knowing that I will be paired with people that I trust. The IJJ community is inclusive and welcomes everyone regardless of your background or ability. The students are all dedicated to training and there is no drama or horseplay in this gym. This is important to me, as I view the gym as a sacred place where I can focus on my self-development without any distractions. The advanced students are always willing to work with beginners and they have taken the time to coach me on my technique and areas I can improve. This has been extremely beneficial to my growth over the past few months. Joining IJJ has also improved my life beyond the mat. Jiu jitsu has taught me important lessons like courage and mental fortitude, about not quitting when faced with challenges and staying calm in stressful situations. These are important lessons I have taken into my daily life. Finally, the monthly fees are very reasonable and there are no contracts, so if you are thinking about trying Jiu Jitsu, I highly recommend signing up at IJJ.

It can be humbling to learn a new sport/art like BJJ, but I truly think the community that Gabe has created here makes it a lot easier for everyone. There's apparently a ton of places to train in ATX now, but this is the only place I tried because a friend vouched for it, and I'm glad she did. I even remember after my 2nd or 3rd class a student encouraged me to stick with it by saying, "you have a place here", which is the definition of welcoming.

I can’t recommend this gym enough. This is the only gym I train at when I visit Austin. Gabe is a great and knowledgeable professor. to the outside eye, jiu jitsu can be really intimidating. as a woman trying a male dominated sport i walked into the gym with my tail tucked between my legs. i had no idea what i was doing or if i was going to like it. gabe has created a safe space inside of the IJJ gym walls. the technique he teaches is solid, there are plenty of women (and men!) to train with and learn from, and in the two years i’ve trained there i’ve made lifelong friends. jiu jitsu and ijj has given me more than i ever thought possible- i’ve gained confidence in myself, i’ve got a community of people around me that want to see me succeed. and it’s just a bonus that i know how to choke and break someone’s ankle if i need to.

I have been practicing martial arts for 17 years, so I have had my fair share of experiences with various schools. When newcomers ask me for advice on how to choose a school, I always emphasize three key factors: solid technique, representation of women at higher belt levels, and a supportive and welcoming community. IJJ not only meets but exceeds these criteria, and this has been my jiu-jitsu home for the past six years. Firstly, the foundation of any exceptional BJJ school is its dedication to teaching and honing effective and safe skills. The level of technical expertise at IJJ is outstanding. Head Coach Gabriel is not only one of the best practitioners I have ever trained with, but he is also quite skilled at teaching a variety of approaches to the game of BJJ. Whether you're a novice eager to learn the basics or a seasoned practitioner striving for mastery, Gabe is a sage guide. Secondly, I always recommend that people seek a school that has women at higher belt levels because that means they have been brought up through the ranks in the same manner as their male counterparts. Women won’t stick around at schools that devalue or disparage them. Inclusion and equal treatment are values that everyone should have on the mats, so the fact that three of IJJ’s five black belts are women is important in a male-dominated sport. Inclusion translates to other aspects of gym life that make training better for everyone, regardless of gender. Finally, a great community is the heart and soul of any martial arts school. IJJ is a family. There’s a genuine sense of camaraderie and mutual support that transcends many hobbies because it's such an intimate sport. From beginners to advanced practitioners, everyone is genuinely invested in each other's progress, creating an environment where everyone can thrive. Gabriel and the upper-belt students are committed to making everyone feel welcome and safe. I have seen Gabe go above and beyond to slowly ease nervous students into classes or give students with disabilities extra time and attention so they can also participate. At the same time, Gabe will ask people to leave the gym if they are persistently training in unsafe ways or mistreating others, because the IJJ family comes first. Gabe once informed a student that he was no longer welcome after making a homophobic remark about another student. As a queer woman, this action reassures me that I am training in a safe space that will protect me as family. Gabe's consistent leadership in making the gym a safe and welcoming environment for all is greatly appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend IJJ to anyone looking to not only learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but also to be a part of a community that values one another, safety, and inclusion. It's more than a simple BJJ gym! The balance that Coach Gabe brings to the mats is amazing. He assures that technique is done well and he pushes just the correct amount to help you grow. He is also playful and welcoming with the children making it fun for them but again, he makes sure technique is correct. The culture that I have found is amazing. All the students are welcoming and the higher belts take time to show you where you can grow. I was unsure that if at 48 I would be "too old" to start this journey in BJJ, but I am incredibly glad I walked through these doors. Life is changing as this new journey has reignited passions and dreams I had put aside. As I said, this place is more than a simple BJJ gym, it's a place where you will find yourself anew. IJJ was the first place I came to based on two other's referral (these two do not know each other). I came to IJJ and never went anywhere else. I truly believe this is the best BJJ gym in Austin. First and foremost, the facility is pretty large, and has cold ac, a shower and coach Gabe disinfects the mats before every class. Coach Gabe is a great instructor, he's teaching every class himself, and breaks down the techniques into bite sized bits, which is great for a beginner like myself. Besides, he is super easy to talk to, very down to earth, and always down to roll. The people training here are awesome too, everyone is here to learn and help each other improve, which may sound corny but you have to come see it yourself. Lastly if you read all this, you might as well come try a class, it's free and you have nothing to lose.

This gym is great and Gabriel is a phenomenal bjj instructor that fosters a productive but still relaxed learning environment. I started here roughly about a year and a half ago with no experience in combat sports and one thing that kept me coming back was the inclusivity of everyone at the gym. Jiu jitsu can be intimidating at the start, but Gabriel and the regulars at this gym combat that with genuine patience and understanding as I have always felt welcome and I have never felt discouraged. In addition, Im also very impressed with Gabriel's teaching style. He is always receptive to questions, willing to give input, and is never lacking an answer to a question. So, If you're looking to start jiu jitsu, or even pick it back up again, this is an incredible place with an exceptionally great instructor.

I joined IJJ about 8 months ago and it's been absolutely great. I started BJJ only a few months before moving to Austin. I tried a few places around before coming to IJJ I had heard was awesome from a friend in Dallas. First day there I knew it was the spot for me. Gabriel is a fantastic instructor and all around great guy. He is very approachable and breaks things down in a way someone with not a lot of experience can understand. The people there are also fantastic and create a fun but also inspiring environment to grow ones skills. OSS!!

My sons and I have been training here for about a year and a half. The coaching is solid for both beginners and advanced. The team atmosphere is excellent. If you want to get in shape, burn stress, and learn a good skill this is the place.

I've trained at Integração (IJJ) for about 8 months. Gabriel is a world class jiujitsu competitor, and an excellent teacher. He's great at teaching kids classes as well! He teaches every class and is very welcoming, as are the menagerie of regulars. The gym has a shower and water fountain, and a good amount of mat space. It's also kept clean. I highly recommend stopping by to train with us, or even to just spectate. There's plenty of seating available around the mat. You'll be treated well!

Top notch gym in Austin! Gabe is an amazing instructor, the way that he goes over every single detail of the technique is incredible and he is always checking on you to make sure you’re doing it right. I wouldn’t train Jiu Jitsu at any other place than IJJ.

I joined Integração looking for a more enjoyable way to get some cardiovascular exercise (I loath the treadmill); I got that and so much more. When I leave this gym I'm drenched in sweat and exhausted but I always leave with a smile. Both the staff and students are welcoming and motivated to see you succeed. No one at Integração has an ego; no one is trying to show you "how tough" they are. Everyone is genuinely friendly and treat you like family. I felt like a part of the community from day one. Professor Gabriel is not only an extremely knowledgeable Jiu Jitsu practitioner, but is very good at explaining Jiu Jitsu maneuvers to people like me with no background in martial arts. At Integração, you are only limited by the amount of effort you're willing to put in to it.

Awesome place to train, very welcoming and great jiu jitsu. My brother and I visited from Seattle and had a great time, would highly recommend to anyone in the Austin area or if you are visiting from out of town. Regardless of skill level, experience, or age, everyone in the gym is very welcoming. Gabriel, the instructor, is awesome, and he really takes the time to help each individual out with certain techniques or concepts that one might be struggling with. IJJ has a family-like environment, and I 10/10 recommend this gym to anyone looking for a solid place to train jiu jitsu at an affordable price.

Trained at a few places before IJJ and I’m glad I found it. Gabriel is an excellent professor and teacher. The environment in the gym is great and all the people who train there work hard and look out for each other. Classes are on the smaller size so you will get great instruction and a lot of focus from Gabriel. The gym is super-welcoming to newcomers and we love it when people come to train either for fun or self-defense. Gabriel also constantly seeks out his students and rolls with them so he can gauge where you’re at which is not something you can say about every school. Come train and have a good time!

Best BJJ in Austin! There are a number of great places to train in Austin but IJJ is something special. Gabe is able to balance beginner fundamentals with advanced competition skills like no other coach. Because of that balance, IJJ has diverse and well rounded students in every class. I am very glad I found this place to begin Jiu Jitsu! Instructor Gabriel Martins takes time to address each student individually during class, and he makes sure we are learning properly. I also bring my son to his Little Kids, and it is amazing to see how he works with the kids, Myself and my son look forward to class, and we are happy to be apart of the gym! Changing schools can be hard but when I moved to Austin and was looking for a school, IJJ instantly became my new home. Gabriel is the best instructor around - technical, advanced, and able to individualize his coaching to fit his student's needs. It's a welcoming, laid back, and fun environment with high level training for everyone from competitors to hobbyists. There's a thriving kids program, too, which is always a sign of a great school. I came into this gym to try jiu jitsu for the first time and left feeling very disappointed. I am in my 50’s and was already feeling unsure about trying a sport that was so rough but I was assured by friends of mine that the right gym would ensure my safety. The coach at this gym walked me through the basics then rolled with me and I got very hurt. He submitted me with an arm bar and my arm has been in pain for weeks. He also had me roll with a couple of women and a tall male. The other male also had no regard for me being inexperienced or for my age and was also quite rough. I would exercise a lot of caution with this gym.

I’ve been waiting to write this review for a long time. I was a member at IJJ for a couple of months nearly a year ago. On my very first day at IJJ, for my first jiu jitsu roll of my life, I rolled with the main coach at IJJ. Even though I knew nothing, we started standing with takedowns. I attempted a takedown and the coach guillotined me, I didn’t even know what a guillotine was and I didn’t know that was something most people tap to. I tried to fight it for a bit and the coach started to lift me off of the ground and I felt myself losing consciousness so I tapped. I definitely feel that the coach’s ego was involved because I spoke to others that didn’t experience things like this when they were new. I’m a very physically fit person so I don’t know whether the coach may have felt intimidated for some reason, even though all I wanted was to learn. It was a shock to experience a roll like this for my first time, I was immediately turned off to jiu jitsu but decided to try a few more times. The other times I went to IJJ, I felt uncomfortable because I noticed the coach would consistently choose my wife to roll with even though myself or women were available. From what other members told me, he has a preference for rolling with women and he is the one that pairs people up together so he can choose whoever he would like to roll with. Lastly, to this day, I continue to experience neck pain since the guillotine especially when I first wake up so I frequently have to take ibuprofen.

Came here for trial recently. Not welcoming for new people. Owner seemed nice, did not interact with me during trial. I don't mind that since he seemed to be dealing with something important on his phone during the lesson. I was mostly instructed by a woman, black belt and very tall. The instruction was ok I think, I don't know enough about this game to know. She was nice to my face but in changing room she was making fun of another member with another woman who also had a black belt on. What I heard was very mean spirited and they were laughing about it. Door was open so I was hearing from the couch outside of it. I got my stuff from dressing area and left quickly. Did not want them to see me, I was intimidated. Came because reviews say it is all "family" and I think that is true. Seems good for the people who have got lessons there for a very long time, but made me feel like the new kid at school hearing the popular kids make fun of other members and laugh about it. Probably wont be going anywhere else, it took a lot of courage for me to try it and instead felt like an outcast. Maybe this sport is just not for me.

I would not recommend this place for children. The adult program is probably ok but children need constant supervision and the instructor was on his cell phone throughout class and my daughter hurt her arm badly during the drilling part of class. She didn’t understand when to tap. She was only trying the class for the first time and she is only 6 years old.

Very cliquey, high drama environment here. There is little structure to the classes, most of them are being a shown a move or two and told to roll and figure it out. This school is not beginner friendly. It is a high-ego environment with constant badmouthing of any other bjj schools in the area.

I thoroughly enjoyed my five weeks training here. Gabriel was a great teacher, and the classes were well put together. However, I am giving one star because I had to cancel my membership for a very personal reason, which I communicated to Gabriel in-person on Saturday, August 6th. He said that he would cancel the membership immediately. Well, he didn't. I have now gotten charged for three months for five week's worth of classes. I called, and when I got no answer, sent an email, which also wasn't responded to. So today I have filed a dispute on the third charge with my bank. Really unimpressed, unhappy, and disappointed with this. I was hoping to come back to the gym at some point, but will not be doing so now.
