Great coaches, and great environment hardly recommended
Thank you for the class. I’m a truck driver stoped in to work out. Very nice coach and students. Liked it
Very strong instruction and a solid association to be a part of.
My son has been a student for nearly 2 years and it has been a great experience. The studio is clean and atmosphere is very orderly which is so important given the techniques taught could cause injury without proper supervision. The kids get ample direct supervision and Mr Eldred ( Professor Greg ) teaches a fair number of classes himself. All the instructors are great with kids. Two years later my son is more confident and I believe much better equipped to protect himself if needed. I recommend this BJJ academy without reservation.
I've been training here for Years. Great environment for anyone to learn. Extremely safe and a huge stress reducer!
I'm so happy that i found this place. My daughter Loves it there. Its a very nice environment and my daughter is very comfortable with everyone there. I highly recommend :)
I attended Marcellos school for years growing up him as well as Jon his assistant instructor are top notch I would highly recommend anyone interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu to check this place out I can’t recommend it enough!!!
We enrolled our two older boys 11 and 6 in classes recently. The price is very affordable and the the class options are very flexible. They love it and have already learned a lot. The coaches are great and really help the boys give there best without making excuses. The place is clean the people are friendly and the price is good.
The coach is awesome, he is so great with the kids. My boys are learning so much, not just Jiu-jitsu but being part of a team, respect, and good sportsmanship!!! I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Clean, friendly, welcoming. Location is tricky to get in and out of, on the northeast corner of Thompson and Emerson, but it's worth it!
First class academy. The instructor was knowledgeable and communicated the techniques well.
In my opinion..best instructors in the US. Marcello was amazing, humble and although you can Never perfect the art, he is about as close to perfection that I have ever encountered
I dropped in and trained for a class while travelling for work. There was a very hospitable, and welcoming atmosphere. The instruction from Marcello was excellent. Everyone I rolled and drilled with showed excellent technique and proficiency. Very tough competitors and confident in their skill set, all while showing great respect for their training partners. If you are looking for a top quality gym to train at in the Indy area, I strongly recommend this gym. Marcello and Jonathan appeared genuinely invested in their students' progress. I don't feel you could go wrong making the choice to train here!
Excellent instruction. Great atmosphere.
Best place to train, as an adult and as a kid, Jon, the instructor is super positive and very passionate about jiu Jitsu. He’s also hot
Very good instructor, friendly team mates & a very clean facility. Overall a very good BJJ academy.
Great coaches and great people. Jon is very helpful and is a great coach. He understands each individual and how to specifically teach them as well as teaching the class as a whole. It's a great place to join.
I dropped in to train while travelling. I paid the mat fee for one night of classes. I called several days before to ask about the classes for one night. Left a message. I was promptly called back later that evening. I think John is the gym owner. He was very good with giving me information and very welcoming. Like I've seen in other reviews, Marcello was very welcoming. He spent a good deal of time with me. I'm a drop-in two-stripe white belt, so that says a lot. The instruction and drills were sound. I was paired with a blue belt that could work with me. When we rolled, Marcello picked partners. I was paired with a blue belt for one round and a white belt graduating to blue belt the next Saturday for the next round. Good experienced guys. They were sound in their BJJ. Gave me fits. Higher level belts should give fits to guys with lower belts. I have gone to other gyms where this wasn't the case for me. All good rolls. And good attitudes. They were patient with me at my experience level and conditioning. The attitudes and soundness of the students tell a wealth about the coach. The second hour, Marcello asked if I would like to stay for the advanced class. I did, and Marcello rolled with me. Again, a good experience. I don't get to roll with Black Belts very much. Good learning experience. Some things you may consider... Many gyms require that the students purchase gi's through the school. Keeping everything uniform. Everyone in this gym had the same gi patches reflecting their school. Nothing wrong with this. You just need to consider the added cost if this is a requirement. Also, I remember seeing a complaint about committing to a one year deal. This isn't uncommon for any gym membership. If you want the best pricing, you have to commit to a longer contract. It helps the gym with their financial planning and will cost the member less in the long run. But if you sign, you are committed.
Coach Blake is really just amazing with the kids! I love him and my son loves his class. He talks to the kids about leadership and respect.
Awesome instructors and great people to learn with in class. Great for mental health and obviously physical too.
I have been training here for 3 years and i am currently a blue belt. I am 16 and it has taught me self control and control of a situation not physically but mentally. Marcello has helped me a lot and i have frequent talks with him on how i can improve my Jiu Jitsu game. I couldn't ask for a better academy.
Excellent academy and a very friendly environment, sensei Marcelo is a very humble person. 10 out of 10 for sure.
I was in Indianapolis for a short time and so I had the opportunity to train here one evening. Marcello is an extraordinary teacher, emphasizing combinations of moves and how to flow from one position to another. Even though the technique he was teaching the evening I visited was something I hadn't practiced before, the people I partnered with were very patient and extremely helpful giving me pointers and helping me learn. If I lived in Indianapolis I'd definitely join.
Great environment, perfect atmosphere and awesome people!
Dropped in while in town for work and had a great class and got some very valuable sparring. Even as a brown belt I learned a ton from Marcello and some of the others at the school. I had a great time and hope to be able to return whenever I get a chance. They have a great group there and I definitely recommend others to go there.
I love bjj and this academy! Marcello is an amazing instructor and all the upper belts are awesome to work with. Very respectful and dedicated. So much good energy! I am Stephanie I am currently a blue in bjj and have been training for almost 2 years. I will never stop training and I love this team.
This school has great family friendly environment. Marcello has great amount of knowledge that he shares openly with his students. If you are considering learning Brazilian Jiu jitsu I highly recommend this school. My name is Braulio Corral, Owner of Corral's Martial Arts in Schererville, IN.
Great workout, and great partners! As a karate studio owner, I know martial arts excellence when I see it. Marcello is a gifted teacher who knows how to coach both the brand new students as well as those who have been training for decades. It seems like once per month at least, people from around the country pay him to come to their cities to teach 1 or 2 day seminars, but I get to learn from him twice per week... every week... He also travels back home to Rio De Janeiro to spend time with his fellow BJJ masters. Every time he comes back to Indy he is always very excited to show us the latest and best strategies for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is why I chose to learn from him. Thanks Marcello for helping me improve my ground game. See you in class Thursday!!!
This is the best place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Indianapolis! Marcello is the 1st Black Belt to set up in Indiana and the only one that is actually from Brazil! He is there teaching the BEST DETAILS of the BEST TECHNIQUES in the world EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK!!! The students there are extremely friendly and always eager to help everyone else get better everyday. You leave class feeling happier, healthier, and more confident about yourself and your life every time. A school like this only comes around once in a lifetime. Please stop by and find out for yourself. I look forward to seeing you there!
I visited Professor Monteiro's academy for training on Saturday and found his bjj expertise and willingness to teach to be phenomenal. His wealth of knowledge is uncanny and his teaching ability is great as reflected in his solid stable of students. This combined with his friendly attitude makes me eager to visit again.
My name is justin i have have been training for a few months now. There is a great mix of every type of competitor at this academy. If your new like myself or very highly skilled Marcello can help you meet your goals in your bjj journey.
My name is Raymond, I’m the head instructor of Trammell’s Martial Arts Academy located in the Detroit Metropolitan area. I'm also a BJJ Black Belt under Master Rigan Machado. With Master Rigan Machdao’s approval, I've been researching and looking for a top level BJJ Black Belt that was close enough to drive to so that I could continue improving my game. Well, I don't have to look anymore, because I found him. I recently visited Professor Monteiro academy and I was totally blown away with the level of his students; he is truly teaching them valuable technique. I spent three days there, and I trained every day. By far, it was the best training experience that I'd ever done. The guys treated me with the utmost respect. Even as a black belt, I learned so much from my visit. friendly people, clean facility, and great structure is an understatement. The academy is absolutely fabulous !!!!!
I met Marcello three years ago during one of his seminars and Marcello changed the way I trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is one of the best instructors I have met. I really enjoyed the great atmosphere and energy of the seminar. I visited his academy and was blown away but the high level of training. I also really enjoyed the company of his students in indianapolis, who made me feel very welcome and really helped me with my training from the the newest white belt to the oldest black belt they all were incredibly friendly and helpful. Brett Evans from Johannesburg,South Africa
I'm a black belt from Wisconsin and have trained with Marcello a number of times at seminars and while he was in town. Marcello's technique is very advanced and i couldn't believe his de la riva guard! Anyone in Indianapolis should definitely go check out his classes!
My name is Chris Clagg and I train at Nino Schembri's BJJ gym in Los Angeles (Lawndale, CA). I was travelling to Indianapolis on business and stopped by Marcello's academy to train. What a fantastic experience! Marcello is a great instructor that clearly explains the mechanics of each move and how the move fits into your entire game. I also got to roll with Marcello and he gave me great feedback. In addition, the entire academy is full of great guys and gals that are there to make you better. Everyone was super friendly with no egos, and there was a good mix of lower and higher belts. I'll definately be back to train with Marcello when I come to Indy.
My name is Mark Massey, I am currently a Brown Belt under Rafael Ellwanger and Carlos Gracie Jr. of the Gracie Barra Association. Though I have never met Professor Monteiro in person, I purchased is DVD set a few years ago and the quality of instruction and amount of techniques available on them that I had never seen before took my game to a new level. I felt my open guard game and half guard escpapes really improved. I recommend his BJJ coach series to anyone that needs or wants improvement in their BJJ journey. 2 Thumbs up for Professor Marcello Monteiro!
I had wanted to start training BJJ for the past few years, but I always had an excuse- work, time, money etc. I finally started doing some research about a few gyms in the Indianapolis area. I needed a gym that would accommodate my weekday schedule, have weekend classes, plenty of parking, close to the freeways, in a non Industrial zone, friendly students, and an experienced knowledgeable staff. I found everything at BJJ Coach Indy. Marcello is truly a world class instructor, he has students from South Africa to Brazil. He patently teaches the WHY in addition to the HOW. I was also impressed with the number to quality training partners available on any given day. Everyone at this club form the staff (Leo) to his senior students (Jon) are there giving tips on how to improve your techniques. My only regret is not starting a year ago.
The attitude at this school is way too much for me. I studied there for a few months and was absolutely miserable. Don't get me wrong, Marcello is an amazing guy. But his students are all very arrogant, and rude. They are not very accepting of other styles of martial arts, and claim jiu jitsu is the best in the world, no exceptions. Also, DO NOT i repeat DO NOT sign a contract with them, ever. I did and am still paying for jiu jitsu when i don't even go anymore. They sign you on with a collection agency who will not let you cancel for any reason until your contract is up, no exceptions. And your account WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW unless you send a WRITTEN ON PAPER statement that you want to cancel it. Make sure you bring these details up with them before you sign anything!
