I dropped in during a visit to Albuquerque and had a great time drilling and rolling for 2.5 hours. Ben and team have a great approach mixing traditional instruction with an ecological approach. I would highly recommend Impact to anyone visiting Albuquerque.

I took classes here for about a month and then ended up moving to Florida for a year, I just got back and am now located in Rio Rancho but could not find a gym I love as much as impact. The techniques are thoroughly explained and feel applicable to real scenarios. These instructors teach practical applicability, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Something else to note is that, while all of the gyms I tried were lovely, this is the only gym that I didn’t feel singled out in by being a woman. The other gyms I went to seemed to have specific subtle rules regarding female members, and while I know their aim is to “cater” to women, it still felt odd to be singled out that way. At impact though, I don’t feel like a woman in a jiu jitsu class, I feel like a person learning jiu jitsu. Good people, good jiu jitsu. Thank you!

This place is great! It can sometimes be hard as a woman to find a place to train. I started at Impact about a year ago, first time training in bjj. I found it immediately welcoming and all of the instructors open to any of my questions or concerns. The first Friday women’s class is the cherry on top of my training every month. We LOVE our Impact family! I originally started my son just before his 4th birthday and now both of my sons have been working their way through the minis class, plus my husband attends classes and open mat whenever we can fit it in. I can't say enough kind words about the Impact team - they put so much thought and intention behind coaching even their littlest members. It was one of the few gyms that even offered classes starting at such a young (and challenging!) age. From first contact to a year+ in, I've always felt like we're valued members of a gym that takes safety, learning, and building community seriously - and fun is never lost in the process. Open mat is fun to attend even if you're just the pregnant lady/mom on the sidelines - coaches and competitors alike are there to work hard, build their skills, and have a good time with respect and integrity. I find the lessons they're helping my littles learn to be invaluable, and the coaches lead by example as the kindest, most helpful, patient, GOOD people. I might say "great" or "exceptional" or "extraordinary" but for simplicity's sake - I couldn't agree more: Good people. Good jui jitsu.

Been training here for my entire 2 year jiu-jitsu tenure after trying out just about every other gym in town when I first started and wouldn't change it for the world. Very welcoming community and we have a great curriculum for the day 1 trial class guy all the way to the seasoned black belt world champ. Large enough of a gym to have multiple looks at different body types and styles, but small enough that you can pull the professor to the side and ask specific details to issues you may be having. Update: I have now been going to impact for about a year and it continues to be an awesome place to train and a wonderful community of people. Since joining impact I have also taken classes at other gyms and impact has an incredibly approachable atmosphere and superb instruction. It you are thinking of starting or looking for a new place to train impact is a great choice. I am very new to any martial art training and the instructors and other students were professional and welcoming. The class schedule is very accommodating and the instruction is informative and a ton of fun. If you are new like me or a seasoned practitioner Impact has something to offer. The environment that has been created at Impact is unmatched. Coaches to students are incredibly welcoming, the facilities are clean with a modern look, and the training is logical and practical. Classes tend to have a task based structure, which I think is ideal to truly learn the art. Impact is a truly amazing studio! I trained BJJ at home in CA but when I came to UNM I wanted to keep training so I signed up for classes at Impact during my first semester. Unfortunately I am not able to train my second semester but it was an amazing experience. The teachers are all excellent at what they do and explain things very clearly. The owner and head instructor Ben is also incredible and runs Impact very well. The community is also amazing! Everyone I met was very nice and was awesome to train with! If you are looking for a BJJ studio in Albuquerque I cannot recommend Impact enough!

The combination of great instruction, teaching philosophy, approach to jiu jitsu, and an encouraging environment is a recipe for wanting to be on the mats. Whether a beginner or someone who’s been training for many years, I’ve seen everyone find value from the various classes I’ve attended. She's now 5 and I've noticed a huge change in her confidence level overall, and her ability to take on new challenges. I've been to hella gyms and this one is one of my favorites. Everyone is really cool and down to earth but there are also people who will give you a good look and tough roll when you really want to test yourself and see what holes there are in your game. I first tried out Impact while I was looking at places to live in Albuquerque and never looked back. Coach Ben makes an effort to get better as an instructor and a practitioner. The kids coaches are also always doing their best to give proper instruction to kids and figure out ways to make the kids classes something that the youth can look forward to. Really happy to be a part of this gym and thankful for all the folks that come through those doors whether they be mat rats or people passing by.

While traveling for work the team at Impact welcomed me in with open arms to train. I always try to support the local schools anytime I am traveling so I have seen a few facilities. Impact was so clean and welcoming. The team was kind but made you work hard! I was able to rain for over two hours as they had multiple adult classes on Thursday night. I will definitely be supporting this gym when I am in town and supporting rooting for them when I see them at tournaments! Keep it true guys, you have something special there!

This jiujitsu school brought the love of jiujitsu back to my kiddos. We have been a jiu jitsu family since my oldest (now 12) was 5 years old. We started in another state with a different school. While they learned valuable lessons and technique, they never felt lile part of a team. Once we moved back to Albuquerque, I finally convinced them to give jiu jitsu another try. We found Impact by luck and loved it the minute we took the first class. The kids were thrilled to start back up. They said the caoches were great and loved the immediate welcoming feel to the school. Since we started, the classes have adjusted to include both jiu jitsu and life skills for every kiddo. I loved the vibe so much, I started with my oldest. Now we get to bond, learn new skills, and be a part of a true team. Impact is highly recommended for anyone who has been wanting to give jiu jitsu a try.

I have stopped in a few times for their open mats/free trial classes and enjoyed all my encounters. The main thing that stood out to me was how clean everything was and if you are familiar with grappling sports, this is HUGE. I plan on doing on/off monthly memberships with them in the future to get in some extra work from their morning classes. Awesome place!

Dropped in while visiting and was very impressed. They had a great noon class with about 8 other folks on the mat. Great instructional information and good class training structure. The mat space was good and the gym was very clean. Most of all everyone was friendly and welcoming and no one rolled with huge a ego to try to smash the visitor or prove how good they are. If you get the chance to train here you will for sure be in good hands.

Ben and Kaethe’s commitment to community and quality is a special thing. Classes are taught in a structured way, from a clear systematic curriculum, by an excellent coach. I am new to ABQ but have been training jiu-jitsu for about 10 years. One of the many lessons that I learned in that time is that gym culture really matters. For this reason alone, as a member and dad of a son who trains at Impact, I cannot give a higher recommendation. The instruction is detailed, the training is intense (if you want it to be!) and teammates take care of one another. In my view, all of these examples are results of a healthy gym culture. If you or your kids are considering jiu-jitsu in ABQ, definitely check out Impact!

I recently visited Albuquerque and was looking for a jiu jitsu gym to train for the week. I sent a message to the folks at Impact Jiu Jitsu and they welcomed me (blue belt) and my wife (white belt) to join their practices. We joined the afternoon classes for both gi and no gi training. First impression was great with the clean mats, friendly instructors and private changing rooms. We started with warm ups and takedown drills, then moved to knee-on-belly to half guard series. Each class finished with situational rolls from the positions we practiced in class. Impact's motto is "Good people. Good jiu jitsu." I can attest to both. It was tons of fun to explore new details in familiar positions including tough rolls with Impact students. I also learned to respect the effect of ABQ's mile-high altitude. Even though I spent the week in Albuquerque eating pizza, fry bread, hot chicken sandwiches and other delicious food, I came back from the trip lighter and better conditioned than when I left. If you're looking for a place in ABQ to train jiu jitsu, I recommend Impact.

I've only ever written a handful of reviews, but I wanted to share my outstanding experience at Impact Jiu Jitsu. I dropped in for 2 weeks while traveling, and felt welcomed by Ben and the rest of the team. The school really lives up to their motto: "Good People, Good Jiu-Jitsu." Instruction is clear and structured, with lots of situational rolling baked in. I highly recommend taking a private lesson with Ben: the content was tailored to my needs and really helped my game. I'm definitely going back next time I'm in ABQ.

I walked into Impact over 3 years ago, with zero experience or understanding of BJJ, and immediately loved it. The people are welcoming and friendly and the jiujitsu inspires confidence and self discipline. The ethos at Impact is "good people good jiujitsu" and it really sums up what it's like to be a member at the gym. My daughter is finally old enough to start kids classes, and she loves it! Impact is a family friendly environment where everyone is welcome whether you are a beginner or a lover of BJJ. So glad I found this place and can't imagine training anywhere else.

I have been training at Impact Jiu Jitsu for nearly a year and the effect it has had on my physical and mental health has been profound. No matter what your motivations are for training, whether it's self-defense, competition, fitness, etc., Impact offers a variety of comprehensive classes that are sure to meet your needs. The coaches are excellent, and the culture of the gym overall is supportive, respectful, and full of camaraderie. I signed up my daughter as soon as Impact began offering classes for 3-4 year-olds, and she loves it. Ben and Kaethe's passion for this gym and its members shows through, and makes everyone feel like they're part of a family.

Excellent membership fees and clean. We tried a few other BJJ gyms in town and Impact is the best value and they keep the mats clean. I do have some complaints about the kids program, not enough structure/discipline or coaches on the mats.
