I’ve trained at a lot of jiujitsu clubs, and Hoodrich is awesome. Clean mats, the people training there are excellent, very welcoming and the owner (Rich) is super accomplished in jiujitsu. There are a lot of classes available throughout the day which suits my schedule well. 10/10 would recommend
Came in for a Saturday open mat, Rich was really kind which rippled through everyone I rolled with!
I stopped in to train when I was visiting Victoria. Chill vibes and very nice people. Would definitely recommend training here.
Dropped in for two sessions on holiday and the coaches and students were both very welcoming and friendly and also high levelled grapplers. From my observations this gym doesn't practice any of the unnecessary superstitions that many bjj gyms do which allows them to focus more on producing high level athletes in a friendly and low pressure environment.
Hoodrich BJJ is a special place. I had been a white belt for about a year and started rolling with my brother-in-law, who had no BJJ experience at the time. He lives in Victoria, so I started looking for local gyms that would be a good fit for him. When I came across Rich’s background and saw that he earned his black belt under world champion André Galvão at Atos San Diego, that immediately stood out. I told my brother-in-law he had to try this gym. He’s been training here for about three years now and has never left. Since then, I’ve dropped in whenever I’m in town, and every visit reinforces how high the level is here. Rich, Dustin, and Nick are all extremely technical black belts, but what really sets them apart is how clearly and calmly they teach. The coaching is detailed, easy to understand, and welcoming whether you’re brand new or experienced. The atmosphere is friendly, humble, and very high level. I feel genuinely lucky to have found these guys and always look forward to training here when I’m visiting.
