Broke down on the road home from worlds masters. I had time to spare so I called the gym up for a drop in. Very responsive and super friendly. Morning class had a good bunch of guys with some great instruction. I would recommend this friendly and welcoming gym.
Stopped in for an open mat recently while I was in town for a wedding and had a wonderful time. Everyone there made us feel welcome and comfortable and we got a bunch of great rolls. Next time I'm in Helena I will definitely be going back.
I went to my first class today. I have absolutely no experience in any type of martial art nor wrestling. There were 6 men there, no women, all of varying levels of experience. I was made to feel so welcome and comfortable. Everyone was so kind and generous. I took turns with the instructor twice and then 3 other men. Everyone was enthusiastic and gentle. They took their time to explain the moves, demonstrate, and allow me to try both positions top and bottom. I am looking forward to continuing my journey at this jujitsu gym!

I have been to about a dozen different BJJ schools over 5 years of my traveling career: it was at this school that I learned the most and made the most efficient gains in my personal game. Professors Dave and Sean teach with a logical approach to techniques that is easy to learn but challenging to master. I loved the consistent exposure to techniques of all styles, they happily drill everything from standup to turtle in order to ensure a well rounded BJJ game. Because of this, it is very rare to catch anyone here off guard which only strengthens your own game. I now have options in multiple areas I only had deficits in prior: standup/takedowns, butterfly guard etc. If you are in the Helena area, do yourself a favor and go to this school!

Helena BJJ is a great studio for anyone looking to: improve their fitness, learn self defense, gain confidence, improve their kinesthetic intelligence, compete, improve health, improve problem solving, make friends and work one on one with experienced coaches. I resumed my BJJ journey in October 2023 and have been attending weekly as much as possible since. The coaches provide a positive atmosphere to thrive in while interacting with other practitioners. The coaches provide feedback and guidance to help polish your technique and improve your experiences. I have had a great time working under professor David and look forward to my continued journey in the BJJ curriculum. The coaches respond promptly to any questions so I recommend reaching out and trying out your first class to see if BJJ is the right sport for you!

This is the best academy I have ever been to! Very female and small person friendly, super clean, drop in friendly (for if you're just visiting), and a super happy vibe. Overall five stars is an understatement, would definitely give this place ten stars if possible!!

This is a Gem of a martial arts school!
Look no further for your jiu jitsu, self defense and kickboxing needs. I trained here for a week while staying in Helena and might have to move back just to train here. I improved in multiple areas with the great coaching and training I experienced.
Incredibly welcoming community of people of all skill levels. Mats are cleaned after every session, and there are showers etc. to boot.

Helena BJJ is a great academy comprised of an instructional staff that ensures each student receives training and instruction that is at their level regardless of if that student is day 1 or a serious competitor. They accomplish this while also providing a consistently encouraging and friendly atmosphere where all skill levels work together to lift each others talents to the next level. The curriculum includes self defense movements, take-down work, "Sport" style ground grappling work, and an even mix of attacks and defenses from all the major grappling positions. Emphasis is given to ensure students understand the techniques and are not just repeating the motions without comprehension. The culture of the gym is inviting and welcoming for anyone interested in training and they offer special classes to help newcomers learn the basics and lingo before moving into the general classes. The gym is clean and sanitary and provides a shower, multiple restrooms, and changing rooms for students as well as cleaning and disinfecting of all sparring and training surfaces after each class. I would highly recommend Helena BJJ for anyone at any level of their journey, if you're just looking to see if it might be for you, if your trying to shed some extra pounds and want to tone up, or if you are looking to expand your existing grappling knowledge and looking for a place to train with a good chill variety of people Helena BJJ is the academy for you.

If you are looking for a great place to train with a family atmosphere this is the perfect gym! The coaches are absolutely amazing and truly care about their students! I really could not recommend this gym enough!
I have consistently trained at 4 different gyms in 3 different states and Helena BJJ is by far my favourite. Black belt professor David is extremely talented an amazing teacher, and very engaged personally in each student whether they are coming for their first time, or have been there for year. The class sizes are great for quality competition and fast progression in the sport. The gym is exceptionally clean, mopped and disinfected after each class. There is no other Gym in Helena if you are serious about BJJ.

As a student of 5+ yrs training among some of the best competitors in the US we found a new BJJ dojo that we proudly call our new home as we reluctantly gave up on CA policies and headed out where we could let our hair down a bit. Immediately, the head Professor was not only welcoming, but humbly trying to make us feel at home. EVERYONE follows the same pattern and are all very talented practitioners. The Black belts roll with EVERYONE! The dojo is meticulously clean AND SPACIOUS....a HUGE plus coming from a place where often, there wasn't enough mat space. Montana has many gyms that feel like a franchises but Helena BJJ is very much like the traditional Brazilian methodology. Training exists ALL week long, morning through evening, so plenty of opportunity to get your weekly quota in.....if your body can handle it. OSS

While on a work related assignment in Helena, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train with Professor David at Helena BJJ. As a person who has trained all over the globe, I have to say Helena BJJ is the most welcoming gym I have ever trained at. The gym has a comfortable lobby, strength training equipment, multiple bathrooms as well as locker rooms, and a huge mat space. Despite what level you are Helena BJJ offers classes at all ranks and has a extremely large training schedule to allow flexibility for students. The gyms I train at typically offer one class a day, Helena BJJ offers up to three classes a day. If you want to be a part of an amazing community with phenomenal instruction of technique Helena BJJ will help anyone sharpen their game. I highly suggest checking it out if your visiting the area, and if you live in Helena… what are you waiting for? I would join ASAP.

Helena BJJ is an amazing place! I had the pleasure of training there this past week, while visiting friends in Helena. The space is large, clean, and very nicely appointed. Prof. David is an extremely generous and knowledgeable instructor! He succeeds in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere at this school. Everyone there was welcoming and respectful. I had some great rolls! If you live in (or nearby) Helena, or are just visiting, make sure to check out Helena BJJ!!!
Amazing place to train! Very welcoming and professional environment for all ages and experience levels. The instructors are knowledgeable and willing to help with adjusting techniques as they teach and roll. If you are looking for a drop in class or long term BJJ gym this is an phenomenal choice.

Great gym! I've trained at multiple schools and HBJJ is about as good as it gets. David, Jim & Sean are all top-notch black belt instructors who cultivate a welcoming % friendly culture. HBJJ does not have the cultist vibe or toxic egos that can be found at a lot of other martial arts academies.

My 7 year old and I both train at Helena BJJ and I can't speak highly enough of both the kids and adult program. The academy prioritizes both excellence and community. My son has developed self-confidence and close friendships--and he has a blast. For me (a father of three and small business owner) the noon hour adult classes are ideal. Helena BJJ has built something really unique and special, I can't recommend it highly enough for children and for adults.

Professor Dave is one of those guys that just gets along with everyone. Very welcoming and non-intimidating environment. Every time you step on the mats you are going to make friends and learn a lot. I take the time to drive up from Bozeman when I can to get some training in with this group and it's ALWAYS worth it!!
