My 7 year old AuDHDer daughter with high anxiety recently joined Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu. We walked in to get info about classes and my kiddo was immediately able to join a class. My kid struggles with task initiation and the owner/coach immediately got down to her level, talked calmly explaining what they were going to do, and then held her hand. Since that day, the coaches/owners have remembered her name and helped keep her engaged. She is learning not only technique but skills that will transfer to her everyday life. As a special needs mom, it was great to see how inclusive they are for all abilities and skills. I have watched them interact with all abilities and am truly amazed at the inclusiveness - true inclusion.
Posted 1 year agoWas visiting from out of state and dropped in for a class. Great group of people they have here. Gym was clean, well organized and had a variety of skill levels, sizes and physical abilities. It was especially nice to have functional warmups as opposed to non Jiu Jitsu related warmups such as pushups, bear crawls, sit ups, etc. I’ll definitely be going back next time I am in town.
Posted 1 year agoWe absolutely love Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu! My three-year-old daughter has been attending classes here, and the experience has been fantastic. The instructors are incredibly patient, encouraging, and skilled at working with young children. They create a fun and structured environment where kids can develop confidence, discipline, and coordination—all while having a great time! It’s amazing to see how much my daughter has grown, not just in her physical abilities but also in her focus and listening skills. She looks forward to every class, and we’re so grateful for the positive impact this school has had on her. Highly recommend it to any parent looking for a supportive and engaging martial arts program for their child!
Anyone looking to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu or improve their craft in a clean, welcoming, and safe environment with highly experienced and caring instructors, this gym is for you! Great location too in downtown Tinley! Thanks Ground Rules for providing our youth and adults such a great place to train!
Great gym with a family atmosphere. This gym really puts an emphasis on placing their members first...not the business. No "culty" vibes, no mandatory dress codes, no forced product purchases...just jiu-jitsu. Open mats after every adult class. Solid instruction, good rolls, friendly vibes.
Ground rules is hands down the BEST gym I have ever attended and I’ve been a member of 4 total bjj gyms. The teachers and the training here at this facility are thorough and patient. I have only been a member for 6 months and I’ve already advanced further beyond my expectations. This place has boosted my confidence as well as advanced my skill level. If your looking for that Bij gym that feels like home where you can feel comfortable and at home with people who treat you like family, but also without any doubts know that you are without a doubt advancing and not plateauing or stale than this is where you want and need to be. Don’t waste your time and money guessing about other gyms. This is where it’s at.
Amazing supportive learning environment for kids and adults alike, beginners, and more advanced grapplers. Love this gym and the extra mile they go for the athletes. My teenage son has made huge changes in his life with the support of the coaches here. Highly recommend for any and all!
Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu is is an awesome place for families. There are programs for young kids all the way through adults. The instructors truly care about you learning the craft and want to help you. There is something for every ability level at Ground Rules. If you have ever been interested in learning Jiu Jitsu check them out.
Great community of people, and was always a guarantee great time. Went there with no experience and now after 3 months i’ve learned plenty of jujitsu. Overall great experience
Great people, great teachers, and makes it very safe for everyone. Great training for before I went to college.
Great gym and awesome coaches! They work so well with my kids.
Great coaches, inclusive environment, and always a fun time when I attend!! Would totally recommend.
Ground Rules in Tinley Park. If you're looking for a great martial school look no further. I highly recommend this academy for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They have a great kids program along with the adult classes that are offered throughout the week. You will not be disappointed. You can thank me later. 😁....A+.....A+!!!!
Awesome jiu jitsu school with great coaches, members and owners. Very welcoming and friendly environment. The gym itself is in a great location, very clean and bright. I highly recommend them!
Great place. Mats are cleaned daily. Very family friendly environment, with a great cadre of coaches.
Ground Rules is the best. Great instruction, great people, and great environment. The gym is great for beginners up to advanced and is always clean and inviting. My favorite part about ground rules is the people-Everyone is friendly and good training partners. I can’t recommend Ground Rules enough!
Great place to train, instructors are super knowledgeable and everyone there is super helpful!
I can’t speak highly enough about how Dave, Fran and their team treat everyone at this facility. Aside from their knowledge of Jiu Jitsu, their support of my son and our family has exceeded anything I’ve ever experienced with a business. They truly care about their students and while the physical aspect is great, my wife and I have seen such amazing strides in our son’s confidence. As a smaller kid for his age, his confidence at school with classmates was low but ever since starting last year, he has changed completely, all for the positive. I could go on about the family atmosphere they provide and more but I’ll end by saying that if you’re on the fence, try it out, you won’t regret it!
I have been training at Ground Rules for 7 months and it has been nothing short of amazing. Coming into a new sport, like Jiu Jitsu, as a female was intimidating but the caring nature of the coaches and friendliness of all the students has made it a truly wonderful experience. The confidence I have built in not only my skills but within myself is more than I could have imagined. The convenience of location being in downtown Tinley is great and the environment is clean and sanitized. All the coaches bring so much knowledge to the mats and are attentive to each student when drilling and rolling. I would recommend Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu 100% for anyone new to the sport or those who have prior experience, especially for females who are on the fence about trying it out!
GR feels like home! From the smiles, warmth and friendliness when you first walk in, to the knowledgeable, supportive and positive instructors, we are so happy to have found GR! Excellent location, parking is easy, the facility is extremely clean and well taken care of, great waiting/viewing area, and that’s just the logistics! The instructors are phenomenal—they are technical, wanting you to know the basics well and then build your grappling skills while giving you an intense workout. My kids and I love coming to our classes and are so relieved to have found our new home at GR!
My family and I have been training at Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu since its inception. The instructors are highly skilled and ensure a family atmosphere that places the focus on developing the skills of all involved. My children's skills have excelled since they have started training and have been successful in the competitions they have been part of. I myself train at this gym and as a novice, it can be intimidating going into a Jiu Jitsu gym to train. Ground Rules has a culture that puts the fears to rest. Every instructor and classmate is welcoming and there for the right reasons. No matter your skill level, novice to expert, Ground Rules will be a great fit for you!
Great people, great location, and great training! We were in town and dropped in for a class and open mat. They were very welcoming and we had a great night of training.
My 7 year old son takes classes at Ground Rules and enjoys the instructors and class structure. He has been learning self defense, gaining confidence, and meeting new friends all within a positive atmosphere. The facility itself is nice, clean and has ample parking.
My 9 year old had his first Jiu Jitsu experience here this past week and he absolutely loved it. Coach Fran was so fun, energetic, and patient. He helped Jacob acclimate quickly. He took his time to demonstrate the moves and explain why each move was important. He was encouraging and kind. You could tell the kids that are regulars really enjoy being there. It was a great atmosphere! I highly recommend checking them out if you’re in the area.
Instructors are knowledgeable, all the staff are friendly & the facility is brand new with huge mat space. There is a good mix of higher belt members that are great training partners & willing to help others learn. Adult class , Blue Belt
Fran, Jill and the rest of the team at Ground Rules are nothing short of amazing. We've been struggling to find something that interested our 6 year old son. After talking to Fran, we decided to give the kid's program a try. Our son has never had as much fun as he does at his weekly classes. He's never shown interest in anything like this before (hated baseball, basketball and soccer). He asks to go every day and now says he wants to be a Jui jitsu instructor when he gets older. Thank you Fran and Jill for being so accommodating of our challenging 6 year old. He LOVES BJJ.
Ground rules is a jiu jitsu gym that incorporates a family fun atmosphere where you can train and be a part of their jiu jitsu passion. The instructors are amazing! Fran, Jill, Dave, Kyle and their staff genuinely care about each student and their journey. They each bring decades of knowledge and different teaching techniques and styles. This is a place where you can build confidence, challenge yourself, learn the art of jiu jitsu, and not feel intimidated all while getting a great workout with a group of great instructors and families. As a newbie myself…I can tell you I was intimidated by other gyms where there are students that are out to prove there belt rank. At Ground Rules you can rest assure their number one priority is a safe and fun environment where you will learn through their passion. The facility is amazing. They have new mats that span a huge instructional and rolling area. They take pride in cleanliness…ensuring mats and all public areas are sanitized and clean. Come support these guys and give it a try. They even provide a free week trial that gives you the opportunity to meet the instructors and try classes with no commitment. You will not only learn the art of jiu jitsu but become part of an amazing family of friends. I would 100% recommend this gym to anyone interested in the art of jiu jitsu!
Ground Rules Jiu Jitsu is the gym to train at. The knowledge and passion the instructors put in is amazing! Their organized curriculum is outstanding. My kids love going there, and always look forward to the next training day. The atmosphere at the gym is positive, and welcoming. My kids are in great hands, and I would absolutely recommend this gym to anyone who is looking forward to train!
Thus gym does not care for the well being and safety of the children as they say they do. They also have teenager teaching some of the classes instead of the adult instructors, which is not what we are paying for. They also kicked out 2 of the best, most dedicated and respectful kids who won medals at every competition they went to because their parents brought up some very serious safety concerns they had. Now these boys are left wondering what they did wrong and left feeling unwanted. Some kid in that gym is really going to be seriously injured there someday.
I travel a lot. Honestly, this place is for people who like the thought of knowing Jiu Jitsu but don't. I was treated terrible by the female instructors. I saw several instructors teach the techniques wrong. Very cliquesh and weird. No one would even roll with me. Every other place except victory had better jiu Jitsu. Very weird experience. Not sure they're legit...
