I trained here while I was out of town for around 5 or 6 months and it was definitely worth it! There are both grappling and striking classes available and you can attend as many or as little as you want with your membership. I mainly attended the grappling and self-defense classes and was very impressed. The quality of instruction was high and the environment was welcoming. Typically there is a different instructor each day which I thought was great since you get a diverse sample of different styles and techniques. If you're curious you can always watch a class or take some trial classes before you sign up. There's nothing to lose!

Class act operation at this dojo. The coaches and instructors are Stellar. They know how to handle children and do it in an appropriate manner that shows discipline and respect. I take my grandson here and plan on going all the way through to his black belt which probably will be at 10-12 year commitment or more depending on dedication and effort put forward. This will change his life in a direction worth going at 6 years old becoming a strong confidant Alpha dominant male that others won't bully. This will make a dramatic difference shaping him to be a leader and in control. I recommend this particular style through the long bloodline lineage Carlos and Helio Gracie designed this special Brazilian style. Their isn't a screw up in the entire family. Anyone that has a loved one that would like to learn discipline... respect...build self esteem...self defense... coordination...fitness...or getting real serious through this Brazilian style should take a tour... call Coach Chance..follow them on Facebook. Go watch them compete. Their teachers/coaches/trainers are superior to the others and are gentle yet strong. This is for all ages and sexes. They offer kickboxing... submission wrestling...self defense and badgers classes for 4 and up. lots of fun with disapline. Locker room and showers are comfortable if you care to change here. The gi is made of thick woven cotten and a sharp looking Gracies South Logo on the back. Parking is good I always get a space here. They often run a special for a first week free ask coach Chance...hell hook you up... he did us. 2 thumbs up.

Armstrong Grappling
I've trained here for 8 years and absolutely love it. My children have also trained here. This was the original Jiu Jitsu academy in this area and most experienced practitioners started here. There have been other academies spring up over the years so the Jackson area has no shortage of options. It's become a great city for quality instruction. The main thing that you notice right away, is the culture here. The connection between the instructors, the students, and the parents is special. Things are done the right way across the board.The school just moved to a new facility that is very accommodating and clean. Its a great atmosphere for the serious competitor as well as the 9-5 student looking for a great hobby.

I've only been training BJJ for 9 months, and the skills that I have learned have not only given me confidence to defend myself in today's society, but training at Gracie South has also allowed me to do things physically that I could not do a year ago. I definitely plan on training with Gracie South for the rest of my life, and I look forward to getting my children involved in this amazing art. John Blunschi, Chance Sheppard, Jake Hughes, Nick Rinebarger, and Jason Armstrong are excellent instructors. I wish I would have started BJJ as a teenager. I encourage everyone to come check this school out!

Top notch instructors with a wide variety of backgrounds in different arts to include something for everyone. Egos are checked at the door to ensure safety, but a competitive camaraderie helps push each of us to the next level. This is a top notch program with some of the most respectable coaches in the Jackson Metro area. They push the children and instill discipline and respect into the character of the students. They are like big brothers to the boys and expect all students to give 100%. We have been a part for 3 years and will continue into the tennage years for our two boys. Bringing my family to Gracie South has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. The instructors go to great efforts to make it a fun and friendly environment for people of all skill levels. There is no intimidation and the training is broken down in a way that is easy to learn. They also offer fitness kickboxing which is a great way to get some excercise and burn a ton of calories. The wrestling class supplements the Jiu Jitsu training and helps learn additional take down techniques while building up strength and endurance. My wife, six year old daughter, and I have been training here for almost a year and we are completely addicted. By the end of the week free trial, we were sold! None of us had ever had any real martial arts training and we were all really nervous walking in, but now our training partners and coaches are such close friends that we hate to miss a class. I can’t imagine training Jiu Jitsu anywhere else! If you are looking for some real, valid self defense or martial arts training, regardless of your age, strength, or fitness level, you definitely need to come to Gracie South! See you on the mats!

All three of my children are building their self esteem, coordination, fitness level and self defense skills. I can't say enough about how awesome this place is!

Both of boys take jiu jitsuclasses here, the oldest is about to start kickboxing. I cannot say enough great things about the coaches, my boys really look up to themand refuse to disappoint them. All the guys at the gym help out with the kids even if they are not coaches. My oldest is 9, he wanted to stay on the Xbox all day and was so shy he wouldn’t speak to adults. Because of Gracie South he is thriving with confidence. He is a beast on the mat and aspires to become a coach himself.

Love Gracie South Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing! My son started the program for kids when he was 4 years old. Watching him progress over the years and practicing with him at home, I decided to try it myself. I loved the challenge- maybe the most challenging activity I have tried. Jiu Jitsu pushes you mentally and physically. The kickboxing class was a great outlet for stress and energy. I have had to take a break from the program due to a busy schedule, but cannot wait to rejoin! Gracie South Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing is a family. Everyone supports and encourages and teaches everyone else. Awesome place!
