My teen daughter and I have been taking Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense classes together, and I can't recommend them enough! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, making sure everyone feels comfortable and empowered. I love that we get to learn these important life skills together in such a fun and encouraging environment. This class is not just about self-defense—it's about building strength, awareness, and resilience. If you're thinking about joining, do it! You won’t regret it!
Great program for kids. We did the anti-bullying sessions and loved how it focused on de-escalation and self-defense. Recommend for anyone looking!
Welcoming community , instructors, and training partners from day 1. Kypros , Ron , Matt , Tori , Christina and the rest of the team all do great work making the art of Jiu Jitsu fun and cohesive to all people.
My son has been enrolled in this school in the youth Bullyproof program and it has done wonders for my son’s confidence. The class not only teaches jiujitsu techniques, it also incorporates lessons on confidence, respect and growth mindset. Kypros and his team does a fantastic job making sure fun is incorporated in the lessons too, at the end of each session the kids get to let loose and play dodgeball, and they get recognized for their hard work in attendance by earning stripes. Couldn’t be happier with this program, so glad we found it!
Absolutely fantastic Our brand new teenager is enrolled in the Women Empowered class and it is doing wonders for their self-confidence. The skills and community bring them so much joy. Master Kypros made it easy for us to find the right classes for our child and they rave about instruction. We are deeply grateful
I have been training at Gracie Seattle for a year or two and have found a welcoming and encouraging Gracie Jiu-Jitsu school run by instructors who are friendly and welcoming to all students new and experienced. By speaking with the instructors, one can tell they are dedicated and committed to helping reach and exceed ones martial arts goals. The other Gracie Seattle students are all very friendly and the more experienced students are always willing to help one to get a technique down right; working with you both before and after class. Due to a life-changing health event last year, I was unable to attend class for about a half year. As I recovered, I was eagerly awaiting the day I could resume JJ training. I resumed training this past January after a six-month break with Gracie instructor Matthew Minaugh. For seven months, I have been training with Matt taking private lessons. I worked with Matt in group classes before my break and liked him quite a bit and his teaching style. During the private lessons, Matt has patiently worked with me to regain the reflexes and skills I lost while out of class. One-on-one lessons with Matt has sharpened my skills to a point I could not have imagined. There is a huge benefit, in my opinion, to private lessons as one can drill the techniques and the instructor can point out mistakes and iron them out. It also greatly improves muscle memory as the drills progress. This process is addictive and makes me want to continue improving as well as looking forward to seeing Matt for my next lesson. I give the highest recommendation to Matthew Minaugh as an awesome instructor to begin or continue Gracie Jiu-Jitsu training with private or group lessons. My advice, try a few private lessons with Matt and it will likely become a routine event! I want to also give a huge shout out to Kypros the the Gracie Seattle owner who helped me get the process going to begin training again earlier this year. Kypros stayed in touch during my recovery and provided me all the information needed when I was ready to resume class. I attended my first group lesson last month after recovery and received a warm welcome back It was touching! Thank you to all at Gracie Seattle for an amazing martial arts experience and helping me get the most from training! I give this school the highest recommendation. -Andy
Kypros and team are top notch. My two girls came in without prior experience and the Gracie Seattle team were respectful, energetic and dedicated to teaching Gracie Jui-Jitsu in a safe and fun way. Tori also did a fantastic job including my older daughter into the Women Empowered courses, making her feel comfortable with Jui-Jitsu right away and ideas on how to react in various ways to possible attacks in daily life. Great team, great skills, great opportunities at Gracie Seattle.
I’m so glad I found Gracie jiu jitsu Seattle! I came for the women’s empowerment classes and found a great community. Everyone is so welcoming and fun. I highly recommend!
The staff have fostered a great community of kind people who build each other up. As someone new to Jiu-Jitsu, they have helped me every step of the way, pushing me while understanding my limits. Great place to learn.
Both my kids train at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seattle. The "Bullyproof" program is fantastic and also a ton of fun. Kypros and Bacon make every class fun and incorporate good values into each session. The kids are learning so much more than the Jiu Jitsu grappling techniques. I see confidence and pride grow with each week. The rules of Jiu Jitsu and Gracie Game Day incentive program just make this school the best fit for our family.
I found women empowerment through a friend. It’s an excellent way to work on personal boundaries and a stronger sense of self. The staff is absolutely fantastic and is very precise in explaining and demonstrating for you exactly how to protect yourself. The classmates are very inclusive and fun and inspirational to be around. Highly recommended
I came to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seattle with no martial arts background whatsoever and I've been with them for a year now. From day one, everyone, from head instructor to all students have been incredibly welcoming and supportive. Safety and respect is emphasized everyday while at same time having loads of fun. The instructors are committed learners themselves and clearly invested in helping each student meet her/his goals, whatever those may be. The many nuances of BJJ maneuvers are laid out well and repeated for ease of learning. The Gracie University system works well and particularly shines in the Seattle studio.
Tried a few jiu jitsu studios and left feeling frustrated. I was drawn to BJJ from a self defense interest, but many of the schools I visited seemed much more competition focused. I was ready to give up until I heard Rener Gracie on the Jocko podcast discussing Gracie University, and watched a few videos, and finally felt like I learned something! This led me to Gracie Seattle, which has been a very positive experience so far. The progression of classes is great and I enjoy being able to work on one or two techniques at each class, and also watch the videos later to refresh my knowledge. I've never felt more excited to go to jiu jitsu than when I started coming to this school. Beginner friendly and great culture. HIghly recommend!
Excellent instruction by Kypros and team, in a friendly environment. I’ve trained at several BJJ schools and this one is the best one for learning the art from scratch. Great workout, of course. Clean mats that are comfortable to roll on. I’ve only been going for a month and it already feels like a second family. The curriculum is very structured to avoid the confusion, frustration, and injuries that sometimes happen when someone is starting out new to Jiu Jitsu. You are not thrown to the wolves like many other schools. Also the program is uniquely focused on street-ready techniques instead of the Jiu-Jitsu vs Jiu-Jitsu sport techniques. They start with only the most useful and effective techniques for common situations of conflict. The program traces its lineage straight back to the founder of Jiu Jitsu, Hélio Gracie. Later, you learn to deal with people that know Jiu Jitsu, a much harder problem to solve!
Love this place! Such a great community and great pricing too. I love how they make safety and cleanliness a priority.
Kypros, and all the instructors at Gracie Seattle have made class an encouraging and positive environment since day 1 of my training. Classes offered 5 days a week make it extremely easy to get in to train no matter your schedule. If you are hesitant to join, jump in and try it out! You will leave feeling challenged and accomplished, ready to come back for the next one. ~JD
Gracie is amazing! I feel so empowered. This is a wonderful community of people.
I came to this school a month ago. I am 68 & out of shape. The teachers and classmates were all supportive and easy going. After training this short time i am already looser & able to get up off the ground more easily, which at my age is a fitness marker. Praise to this school!
I would strongly recommend Jiu-Jitsu Seattle to anyone that might have an interest in the sport. The Instructors are great and the atmosphere is positive and welcoming! You couldn't pick a better place to learn.
Amazing academy with knowledgeable and professional instructors. Everyone is friendly and is encouraged to work together. They have a lot of class options and do their best to help students succeed and build a supportive community. I love my Gracie Seattle family!
Showed up with crusty striking experience and zero grappling experience. This is honestly one of the best martial arts classes I've taken - nobody's out for blood and the culture is very welcoming. It's nice to have a wide range of both experience and body types to practice with. Honestly feel pretty jazzed after each class and am motivated to do more outside the school so I'm showing up with more energy & ability.
My son has been attending the bully proof classes and absolutely loves it. We can see a dramatic boost in confidence. Thank you for being awesome!
I visited as a pink belt and they were very welcoming and the facility was very clean. The women empowered instructor Tori was very welcoming and gave very thorough explanations for all the moves. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.
As a person coming into Jiu-Jitsu with no prior martial arts experience, I was definitely nervous during my first class. I'd heard stories from friends about other places they'd trained at - students getting hurt, harsher instruction, and the overall culture being toxic, etc. I am so happy that my experience here has been wonderful and anything but that! Everyone is incredibly warm and welcoming. The instructors are very patient and kind, genuinely want folks to learn, and respect personal boundaries. I've never felt uncomfortable asking questions, and I can tell everyone brings a lot of enthusiasm to class. I was even asked what my gender pronouns are on the first day, which totally surprised and excited me. Also worth noting that the membership prices are affordable and, in my opinion, worthwhile. You have the opportunity to try out multiple classes in advance of buying a membership, if you choose to. I have already recommended Gracie to friends and family. Really appreciate that a place like this exists!
Gracie University is great for those looking for learning Jiu Jitsu in a manner with complete regard to detail. The main instructor Kypros is amazing at breaking down each 1 hour lesson in sections that are easy to follow; his passion for the art of Jiu Jitsu shows and he has a wonderful sense of humor! I would also like to recognize Dwayne, Tori and Ron that have earned their Instructor Certifications and form part of the impressive Seattle team; they prepare first timers at the beginning of each exercise and assist with showing everyone “the moves” with hands on training through out the duration of the class.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seattle is amazing. The instructors are wonderful and bring a breadth of experience and knowledge to each class. The facility is very clean and the administration is professional and efficient. My son still gets pumped up every time he is getting ready for class, and since he started a couple of months ago, his confidence is very high, he is less shy and he is getting in great shape. Thanks Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seattle!
I’m starting to Jiu-Jitsu @ 53 which was a little intimidating. From Instructors to students this is a very positive and helpful place to be. Learning the Gracie combative’s program is very simple but effective way to learn this art in a very low pressure environment whether you are young or older… Each short class we have been learning 1-2 new positions, practicing them, possibly adding variation. If you’ve been on the fence about trying Jiu-Jitsu, take the leap, they even offer a ten day free trial…
Started attending I’m earlier 2020. Very easy going people and theres a no pressure environment that is unmatched with other schools.
Kypros does an amazing job at breaking down the complexities of fundamental Jiu-Jitsu movements and linking them to the bigger picture of self-defense and combat. Classes are fun, there is a good community, and in the era of Zoom, classes are still very well done, consistent, and organized. Kypros is an awesome guy and I'd definitely recommend his Gracie Jiu-Jitsu school.
I am a student at Gracie Seattle, and I am extremely happy that I found this school. The head instructor is extremely encouraging and positive, as well as the assistant instructor who will be the instructor for women's empowerment. I knew that Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Seattle would be a positive place to learn because it operates under the same guidelines and values as Gracie University HQ, as it is a Certified Training Center. The space is clean and sterile. I already knew that I was going to love learning at one of the Gracie Universities Certified Training Centers, and the head instructor could not be more suited to be a certified Training Center owner. I absolutely intend to continue being a student at this school for as long as I'm able.
This is a great place to see what Gracie Jiu Jitsu is all about! There is a great atmosphere to match the dedicated team that Kypros leads!
This is an amazing school. Very clean, friendly. The instructors are easy going people. Ive gone to numerous schools in the area, Gracie Jiu Jitsu is dedicated to street defense. The classes are really fun and i can't wait to continue my jiu jitsu journey here. The other students are great, everyone is dedicated to a safe learning environment so you dont have to really worry about getting hurt while you learn. They also have a great program for kids too.
My kids love it! Great team of instructors.
