My daughter and I attended the free self defense seminar at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu La Jolla. We were so impressed and had so much fun, we joined!! Matt Becker is a wonderful instructor. Patient, kind and reserved time for questions. Definitely recommend!!

Been training here for almost 5 years. I couldn't have found a better place to train. Matt, the instructor and owner of the academy, is an excellent teacher. Everyone who trains here feels welcome and at home, and I'm sure you will too. If you're looking for a place to improve your self-defense skills or learn the art of Jiu-Jitsu, this is a great place to learn. All the students here are great and care about having good experiences while training.

Great environment, definitely a great place to learn.
I think I've been training here long enough to give a proper review. The atmosphere here is one of kindness and safety for yourself and your training partner. If you want to join a gym where your safety is top priority and you're learning real life self defense skills, I highly recommend at least trying out the 10 day free trial. You'll be hooked! If you're wondering "what if I'm not flexible enough? What if l... what if.. what if...?", know that coach Matt is highly accommodating and can modify any of the techniques to fit your body. You'll be taken care of here! 5/5 world class gym. If you join and keep coming, I promise you'll gain an incredible amount of confidence in yourself.
Matt and other instructors are really knowledgeable about BJJ , they teach students with patience and passion. I only took few trial classes at this gym , then moved to another other city due to work but will definitely come back again when I’m ready to make the commitment.

The place you want to go to for self defense based jiu-jitsu. The curriculum used in class is top notch and the instructor is very knowledgeable and experienced when it comes to jiu-jitsu for actual self defense application which is what I've always wanted from this martial art. Supported by gracieuniversity online so you can review classes taught before or after class which is a game changer when it comes to actually learning the techniques taught by the school.
I had a fantastic experience with Matt. His extensive knowledge, patience, and passion for the art form truly stood out. His teaching style was exceptional, making it a welcoming environment for a beginner like myself. This is an academy where expertise combines with a supportive atmosphere.

Gracie jujitsu is a local family owned martial arts studio for decades, in the heart of the Jolla. Gracie jujitsu has been a huge support of youth within the community, and throughout San Diego, as well as adults in offering classes for self-defense, truly to help each, and everyone of us, feel a little stronger, more confident, and capable of handling ourselves. Should the situation arise. In just one class, I learned a move that literally helped me feel stronger as I had been into compromising situations in public within the last six months where I felt very vulnerable when I was approached. I realized self-defense for me at 57 is something that I need to learn. I also felt more confident And I can’t wait to continue this journey with Gracie jujitsu La Jolla The owners are incredible as is their team of Masters and professionals! I am truly grateful for Gracie, jujitsu, La Jolla, and the Becker family for all they do to give back, for their kindness, their generosity to our communities, and for teaching me self-defense, along with my friends and teens! My son has been going to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in La Jolla for a few years now. Not only does he love going to learn this art but the skills set, technique, and values that are taught are just what we are looking for. It has made my son a better person and he carries himself confidently. I can not recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in La Jolla enough!
I can totally recommend this place. My two children are enrolled to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu La Jolla since over two years. In this place my children learn not only the art of self-defense, but also life skills. Learning Jiu-jitsu at this place is so much fun for children. They also offer camps, game nights and birthday parties.
Matt exudes professionalism in his teachings and respect for others. One of the most welcoming environments I’ve been apart of and grateful that it’s my home for BJJ.

My kids and I have been training with Matt at Gracie Jiu Jitsu for 5 years. Not only has Matt helped all of us learn Jiu Jitsu, he has helped my boys grow and develop into happy, confident well adjusted teenagers. From kids classes to teen classes and now finally my oldest testing for blue belt and moving into adult classes Matt has been there every step of the way. We live Gracie Jiu Jitsu CTC and recommend it highly for both kids and adults.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu is for anyone trying to learn how to defend themselves against a larger person. Matt Becker has created an environment of positive reinforsement and confidence building for anyone willing to learn. Can't say enough about how much Gracie Jiu Jitsu has impacted my life. I am a lifer.
