Gracie Barra Westchase has been an amazing experience for my family! My kids started training here when they were just 5 years old, and I’ve been training myself since 2016. The gym is professional, welcoming, and truly family-friendly. Professor Arezou is incredible—she takes care of my kids like they’re her own, making sure they feel supported while learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.The environment is perfect for both beginners and experienced practitioners, they have women’s class from Mondays through Thursdays, stop by if you want to give a try. I Highly recommend this gym to anyone or any family looking to start or continue their BJJ journey!
Every trainer and class I’ve experienced at Gracie Barra is incredible. If you like getting out of your comfort zone, a high energy environment, a place to push yourself, a variety in strength training and cardio, and committed coaches, this is your place. I’ve been a member for over 2 years now.
Gracie Barra and Coach Alexis left a very good impression. My wife and I were absolutely exhausted! Alexis showed us new workouts to help us develop our fundamental kicks which is a priority for me! I am definitely going back!
I have always been a fan of striking and when I found out they had a Muay Thai program, I quickly came in to check it out, and I was very impressed with the drive and dedication that their instructors have! Coach Alexis Chavarria "Lobo Feroz" is nothing less than a beast and has tons of experience and I recommend anyone who is looking to learn or improve their Muay Thai skills to come in and try a class out for yourself. From there, I'm sure you'll join up after that. I frequently see new members who have joined the program, and it's a great feeling to have the comfortable family bond. I will say that when you do come, be ready to work hard and sweat, which is what your experience is supposed to be like for the best results! See you there! Hai A.
Alexis is a great teacher can always tells your flaws and teach you the right way also always a great workout
Great for beginners and advanced wrestlers! I have A 9 year old male and 12 year old female Who really enjoyed the class and instructors. High intensity and positive environment for any level to thrive in.
Alexis teach a great cardio and Muay Thai class 6am 11 am and 6pm flexible and convenient hours. Something for everyone if you want to learn technique or just burn calories
I’ve been training Muay Thai with Alexis Chavarria at Gracie Barra Westchase, and it has been an incredible experience. Alexis is a phenomenal instructor who truly cares about his students’ progress. He’s highly detailed when it comes to technique and timing, breaking down each move so that even the smallest details are perfected. His dedication to the art of Muay Thai is clear in every session, and he consistently pushes us to become better fighters. If you’re looking for a coach who is passionate, skilled, and committed to your growth, Alexis is the one to train with!
It took me some months to decide where i wanted to train, I have never done sports in my entire life. Even though I've only been training for a couple of months, I can see the improvement. The staff is so helpful, and the environment is so welcoming. Alexis is an excellent, intelligent coach. The way he structures his classes helps you understand and advance in your techniques. He is very persistent, and he is always pushing you to your limits. I hope to stay training with Gracie family for many years ,and I'm grateful you guys helped me develop appreciation and love for martial arts. I truly recommend Alexis as your muay thai coach!!!!!
I had the absolute pleasure of being able to train at this establishment for the past two months. The instructors there are world class, extremely nice and super helpful when explaining technique. If you are serious about learning the art of brazilian jiu jitsu this is the place for you. Professor Piano, Bruno, Vitor, and Matheus were the professors that I was mainly taught under for my time here and I cannot say enough nice things about them. They are very friendly and very skillful at what they do. I would recommend this gym to anyone who is serious about wanting to learn/train jiu jitsu, I wish I could stay in HTX longer because there is no doubt where I would be training at!
World class instruction & a world class facility 🙏
Greatest gym around amazing staff world class professionals the facility is amazing great for kids definitely highly recommended ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had a chance to train here while I was in town for work from Chicago. This place is by far one of the best facilities I have ever been to. The training is on another level. Not too many places you can line up and see 5 black belts lined up. Definitely one of my favorite GBs I have been to.
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This martial arts establishment breeds winners and champions🏆 The Professors and Coaches are extremely competent and highly skilled. Training at Gracie Barra Westchase will rapidly develop your Fight IQ. Their Kids program is also phenomenal and second to none, offering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Muay Thai courses! I recommend checking out there Instagram page: @graciebarrawestchase
Great instructors. My kid joined kickboxing/Muay Thai program and he loves it. Highly recommend.
Dropped in during a layover from Canada. Very high level instruction, clean facility, and welcoming staff.
There aren’t enough stars to recommend this place. Houston is fortunate to have Professor Ulpiano and his extremely talented Professors and Coaches who are internationally renowned at Brazilian Jiujitsu. There is no better place for kids or adults to begin their journey and learn self-defense, instill confidence and discipline and make friends. My kids and I love this place and consider it a second family.
Top notch gym, instructors, and Uber helpful staff. Tried my first class a week ago and it really gave me everything I was looking for. Can’t say enough great things about this place.
The best academy
This is a life-changing experience. Definitely proud to be a part of this family. I have learned so much from Professor Ulpiano and the other coaches. The variety of classes offered can't be compared to. There is something for everyone! Highly recommend trying a class
This school has world class practitioners & competitors and are excellent at teaching. Atmosphere is respectful and collegial. However simple or ambitious your martial arts goals are, GBWC will help you to achieve them. Good size facility with 2 large mat areas (BJJ and wrestling/Muay Thai) and clean locker rooms.
Five stars is not enough to rate this place. I can’t think of a better gym to start your martial arts journey. Ulpiano is a great instructor, mentor, and role model who is dedicated to his students and school. I have attended this location for over ten years and that should say a lot about Gracie Barra Westchase.
Great! Everyone is nice and super friendly, glad I signed up!
I just moved Houston last month and this gym is by far, the best jiu jitsu school I have trained at. The instruction is superb and the gym is always clean. Everyone is friendly and welcoming.
Very clean and friendly gym with nice showers. Professor Ulpiano is a strong leader and treats his team like family. You can also be sure you’re getting world class instructors and the mats are sanitized after every class.
Best gym you can go to in Houston. Great energy walking into this gym. They have classes for everyone. Kids, Women, Beginners, and Professionals. The quality of the training is second to none. High level Coaches, positive and supportive team. I highly recommend this gym. You will love it!
incredible gym, big mats, everything very clean, restrooms with a lot of showers, the professors and coach’s are very helpful and have a lot of classes during all day, love this gym and recommend to everyone
La mejor escuela en Texas para aprender artes marciales mixtas , he estado aquí por unos 7 años aquí te van a tratar como familia tus hijos van a aprender defensa personal excelente escuela
Best place you could learn Ju Jitsu for yourself or even your family!! Professor Upliano is a master at his craft and provides a safe and the best learning environment for anyone wanting to learn ju jitsu. They have people from all different ages and backgrounds and have classes there for anyone just wanting to learn ju jitsu for self-defense, as a recreational sport or hobby, a way to get in great shape, or if you are a serious competitor and want to compete in national or world wide competitions!! Everyone there is like family and I learn just as much from other students and coaches as I do from the professors (black belt instructors). They also offer wrestling and muy thai classes which is what I love!! If you are searching for an awesome family and place to learn Ju Jitsu and in a safe and fun environment in the Houston area then I would highly recommend Gracie Barra Westchase!!!
Started here as a white belt and a decade later I'm still coming back. The pros: Stellar gym design the staff is supportive the mats are always clean the professors are world class The cons: None. Go train.
Professor Ulpiano has set the standard in Houston by setting up one of the largest, cleanest, and professional facilities to train Brazilian Jiujitsu at. The academy offers more than BJJ as well. Being surrounded by like-minded training partners that have your best interest at heart and also having tutelage under a world champion (Pedro Marinho), it goes without saying that my experience here as been nothing short of wonderful for year I've trained here so far.
I’ve been here for 17 months, I still continue to learn from the professors there. Jiu jistu with these good peeps keeps me humble. Try it, you’ll see!
Gracie Barra is a fantastic BJJ gym. When you walk in, you will notice the mats are always clean and the students are smiling, just like the professors. They follow a curriculum which I find makes it easier to learn since you have a general idea of what you will be doing for the week or if you are feeling ambitious, you can study ahead. There is a good mix of males and females of various sizes for you to train with and numerous students in each belt color. They have a variety of classes/options available to you as you can choose gi, no, gi, muay thai and wresting. They have fundamental and advance classes where they will teach takedown, legs locks (once you are blue belt), and are up to date on the latest BJJ moves/trends. This is a great place to train whether you want to compete or learn self defense. I would definitely recommend anyone to drop by and check it out as they provide a free week of training. Also, if you are looking for a school for your children, every time I walk in before class, the kids look like they are having the time of their lives.
Incredible school. Can't recommend highly enough. The staff and students couldn't be more welcoming. The culture they've built is one of helping each other improve, and overall positivity. The level of technical knowledge and application is world class, I'm constantly impressed by the professors and students here. Love it!
Professor Ulpiano and all of the instructors at this school are top notch. The women’s program is amazing Professor Arezou and Victoria are extremely technical and professional. I love this gym!
Super patient to new comers learning alot within only two weeks. Friendly coaches and training partners, would recommend to anyone interested to give it a shot.
It’s crazy to think I’ve been at the gym 5 months now they are great ppl the Professors are polite and externally good at Bjj the Muaythai classes are great the wrestling class is almost unbelievable how good they are as a unit best gym I’ve been to 💯
Highest level training with a family atmosphere!
Started going here 3 years ago. Been a life changer. Increased my fitness, mental toughness, and made some good friends. Professor Ulpiano is the best in the business. If you want to learn from one of the best in the world, this is your spot!
Been with this school the better part of 10 years and love it here. I pass probably 3 schools on the way and drive 45 min because it's become my second home. From the general gym, the coaches, my training partners, to Professor Ulpiano... everything here is A1. Come on in and change your life... #BJJforEveryone
I have been lucky to train, learn, and grown as a martial artist with GB Westchase for the past 10 years. It is a high level place in all aspects. I recommend Westchase to all my friends who have an interest in learning bjj, wrestling, or kickboxing. My son even trains alongside me and we are able to create lasting memories.
I’ve been to plenty of GB schools, this one by far is the best. Great instruction, and great competitors.
Best in Houston
Gracie Barra Westchase is for everyone! from the least experienced to World Champions. I was most impressed with their commitment to excellence. When you see your kids who have never stepped on a jiujitsu mat mentored by some of the best instructors in the country, you realize how important every person is to the GBW family. The change in confidence, maturity and determination in my family members that chose to give it a try is beyond words. Thank you Professor Ulpiano, Gracie Barra Westchase has been one of the most positive influences for good in our lives. The Ohai family is forever grateful👊👊
Our family has taken our kids to Gracie Barra Westchase for over 5 years and we could not be more impressed with this gym. We believe the classes here have been the single most important part in our children’s development. There is not a better Jiujitsu gym in Texas. Your children receive instruction from black-belts in every single class and not only do they learn Jiujitsu, but they learn to be respectful. We love this gym and wish we could give more than 5 stars on the review!
The best school in the world!
Excellent group! Top notch training! Instructors who put in work into their people and art form. If you’re looking to level up in your in your martial arts skill these guys will help aid you. Also just generally cool people to hang out with 👌
GB Westchase is one of the best & most competitive schools in Houston! I highly recommend training here whether you are a beginner or an experienced competitor.
The entire staff as well as the members at GBwestchase are Great people . Professor Ulpiano embraced me with sincerity and accepted me into the school everyone was helpful professor servando and everyone best school I’ve ever attended
World class instruction, facilities, and teammates wrapped in a clean and respectful family atmosphere. Multiple world champions openly share knowledge and support and push each other daily. Many reasons why the mats are always busy. The only place in Houston for Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai and Wrestling.
Words can’t describe how happy I am to have found Gracie Barra Westchase. I moved to Houston from California and have trained for about 10 years prior to coming here and there’s nothing second rate about GB Westchase. Ulpiano the owner takes no shortcuts to offer a world-class facility for jiu jitsu, Muay Thai, and wrestling. He also personally takes it to heart to ensure that your time at the gym is the best hour or so of your day. The other instructors Servando, Arezou, and Pedro are no different and their passion to the sport and the students is incredible. The best part maybe the other students, there are so many students who show up to all the different classes that finding and training with people of all skill levels and body types is never an issue. It simply amazes me when you can show up to a class and final almost a dozen of black belts on any given weekday night. Class people, class facilities, and class organization. If you’re looking to find a place to call your second home and to improve your Jiu Jitsu, this is it.
GREAT gym where high quality competitors and fun time hobbyists both get along really well and their needs are met. Very good instruction. Meticulously clean facility with 6 showers. People actually hang out outside of class, too.
After coming by to check out classes by direction of my friend (Azeem), I’ve fallen in love with the atmosphere at GB Westchase! I’ve attended a couple classes and sparring sessions so far, and one thing is clear: this is the place to go if you want to get better! A great place to not only learn techniques, but be pushed to the next level. Amazing direction from every professor and coach and a great family-style atmosphere. Everyone is just looking to get better. Love going here whenever I get the chance! I look forward to more classes and reaching new horizons with everyone at GB Westchase.
Professor Ulpiano is amazing. He not only teaches jiu jitsu but teach you how to think about it. My game increased a lot and every class I learn something new. I've been on different academies and teams and I can say that this school is the best I've ever been.
World class Jiu Jitsu / Kickboxing / Wrestling / MMA instruction here! They have something for people of all ages. I've been training BJJ here for 18 months and both of my kids (6 yr old boy and 3 yr old girl) train BJJ here as well. My wife trains kickboxing and BJJ with Professor Servando and Coach Arezou and has made massive fitness gains with their help. I have lower back issues and the training partners and instructors here are super supportive and helpful. I've trained in both group and private class settings here and have never been disappointed. Some reviews say that they're expensive but their tuition is actually about average for a BJJ school. When you consider that the instructors here (Professor Ulpiano has over 25 years experience and is a 4th degree black belt - a rare find) have a lot more experience and credentials than the average BJJ school, they're actually a great deal. 5 stars - highly recommended!
Best and cleanest Jiu-Jitsu/MMA gym in Houston. Best instructors. This is the only place you need to go if you want to become a great martial artist.
I just started training here and the professors, coaches and my fellow classmates have all been extremely welcoming and helpful. It has been a great experience. Ulpiano and Pedro have a way of teaching that benefits everyone from beginners to very advanced. I could tell from day one that I made the right choice by joining the team at Gracie Barra Westchase!
I really like this BJJ gym/school because of its visible weekly, written-down curriculum, many good instructors, the spirit of teaching and the encouragement of learning the art, so many partners to roll with (15-30/class), part of the belt promotion is how one help other lower belts to get better, very large and clean facility, added options of Muay Thai/MMA or even wrestling...It is like going through a college of BJJ for me...The head Professor works really hard to make all this happened...(also, make sure you clock-in each class because the attendance counts in getting stripes...)
One of the best Jiu Jitsu schools in Houston
I've been doing BJJ for over a decade now and before I stumbled upon this gem I was training all over the Houston area. I can tell you that this place has the most professional instructors/employees. When I first walked in I was taking by its large mat space I was welcomed in with open arms I saw children and full families enjoying their time. The facility alone is top notch, lockers showers are large and cleaned on a daily basis by outside sources cleaners. The training is top notch I can say I was excited to be at my new home as I saw many beneficial challenges that will benefit me overall as a person. The people who train here are the nicest ppl and the most diverse group I've ever been around. The best place to train not only in Houston but top 10 in the country no doubt.
Excelente ambiente y excelente entrenadores
I've been at GB Westchase the past three months. The professors and coaches here are excellent at what they do. I started with the Women's only class which made me feel very comfortable getting familiar with the general class flow. When my schedule changed I was hesitant to join the coed BJJ classes, however Prof. Ulpiano, Pedro, and even visiting professors always make a point to ensure I have a safe training partner for my size and skill level. They of course do this for men who are new, but I especially appreciate their attention to ensuring their students are set up to avoid unnecessary injuries. When there isn't an appropriate partner, they will train with me instead. Per other reviews the facilities are clean, well maintained, and they have taken care to request for everyone to comply with required COVID precautions. I look forward to my children starting when they're old enough. I can't recommend enough for any female considering training BJJ. If you aren't, you should. GB Westchase will make you feel at home and take care of you!
Professor Ulpiano has everything you can ask for from an instructor. He is patient, technical and you can tell he is very passionate about bjj... People are friendly and willing to teach you...
When I come into Houston to visit my family, I join the Cardio Boxing class while my nephew is in his martial arts class. I will say the workout is intense and challenging. Just what I was looking for! Love the kick bags and the variety of the class. Highly recommend it! While your child is doing martial arts--you can get a great workout at the same time! The Gracie Barra in Baltimore doesn't offer cardio kickboxing. Bummer!
I first walked through the doors of this gym in January 2011. It was the first class after the school opened and I was nervous not knowing what to expect. I was immediately greeted by Professor Ulpiano with a smile and an overwhelming feeling of positivity and encouragement. After that first class I was hooked and trained every chance I had a lot of times two to three times a day. Professor is hands down the best coach I have ever been around through out all my sporting endeavors. His ability to build his students confidence combined with the technical proficiency he's able to teach with are unrivaled. About a year later I quit. It is one of the biggest regrets I have in life. The impact Professor and the GB family made on me carries over to this day. This is not just a gym it's a family.
With a husband who’s extra OCD about cleanliness and kids who are super shy and awkward, GB westchase is the only option for my family. My kids love the professors and it’s one of the few BJJ gyms that isn’t an over glorified daycare for them. The professors are strict but friendly, the technique being taught is practical and necessary. Professor Ulpiano goes out of his way to welcome and greet people and always keeps the environment a family friendly place. Professor Inacio is strict but kind to all the kids. Professor Servando, also my son’s favorite coach, has imbedded the love for wrestling in him and taught him to push himself to always do better. But my favorite is Coach Arezou, but that’s only because I have a thing for genuinely nice people.
Training in any sport is difficult. Getting accustomed to the nuances of any technical training takes time. At GB Westchase, absolutely everyone wearing a gi no matter the color, wants you to learn and feel welcomed. That's exactly how anyone should feel when they step on the mat. Instruction and coaching is top notch from the lower belts all the way up to the Professors. A great camp to be a part of!
Very professional, super inviting, clean, excellent instruction. I came in from out of town to get some quick training in. I called ahead to make sure it was okay and they were great. Top notch instruction and fun welcoming training partners makes or breaks an experience and I had a great time here. I would definitely recommend this place for friendly and top notch Jiu-Jitsu instruction. I’ll be back next time I’m in Houston for sure.
Ulpiano Malachias is a pro.
I can’t say enough nice things about this place. I always wanted to try something like this but was too afraid to try. In mid-May I went in to check the place out and met Coach Arezou. She was awesome! She told me what I needed to do and how much everything was and really sold me on it. I left and went to a conference that next week, but I couldn’t get Gracie Barra out of my head and decided while I was out of town to take the plunge and do it. I went back on a Friday morning where I met Niles and he, too, was just amazing. I had my free class that very day with Professor Reuben. I had never had anything kick my butt like that class. I was exhausted. I was worked out like I had never been worked out before. But I felt AMAZING. I wanted more. That’s the thing about this martial art. It’ll push you to the limit and wear you out, but your mind and spirit want you to get back on that mat because there is just so much to learn. I signed up that day. Professor Ulpiano, Professor Inacio, and Professor Reuben are amazing teachers who push you to get better. Coach Arezou (who teaches at the school) Niles, and Coach Servando (who also teaches at the school) are an amazing front-desk staff and answer every single question and concern that I have. The training partners are a godsend and have really helped me along this early part of my Jiu Jitsu journey. I could go on and on, but I will say this. The highlight of my day is going to GB Westchase to train. I’ve been doing it for a month now and I have a new confidence about myself, I have more energy, I have already lost 12 pounds, and I feel amazing. I can’t wait until my daughter gets old enough to start training. Do yourself and favor and give this wonderful school a try. You won’t regret it.
I visited Gracie Barra Westchase while on a business trip. I called before going talked with Arezou who was super nice. When I showed up she remembered me which was really cool, she is really nice! Professor Ulpiano was great, and made me feel welcomed just like everybody else in the class. Having trained at different gyms, if you are looking for a family like environment, ego free, with a very high level jiu-jitsu, this is the place to go. Also the facility is amazing, they have showers and lots of mat space.
Took a few classes here it’s was an amazing experience the lady at the front desk was very nice and the gym is big lots of space and very comfortable and the guys are tough good training and good rounds and the instruction is great got to learn some good stuff and get a great sweat definitely a premier gym to train at
Visiting relatives in Houston for the week, stopped in for a BJJ class. First impressions, everything was very clean. Mats looked brand new. The locker room was spotless. The loaner Gi was clean and smelled freshly laundered. The space was quite large. Plenty of room to roll. This was my first time training away from home, so I was a little nervous as to what I was walking into. Everyone was super welcoming and the class was well structured and well run. A great vibe. They even had açaí bowls for sale, which I’m pretty sure gave me temporary Brazilian super powers and raised my skill level up at least one belt color. Will definitely be coming back next time I am in town. OSS!
Have been a part of the Gracie Barra Westchase team for over 5 years. Have traveled to many different bjj gyms around Texas, but this is home! Westchase has an amazing culture, creates an environment to learn, train hard, and build great friendships. Can't recommend Westchase, Professor Ulpiano, the other amazing coaches in all disciplines, and the operation enough. Great place to train Jiu Jitsu!
Very happy with the gym. Makes BJJ very accessible to someone with zero experience. The professors and gym members are great, learn a lot in a short amount of time.
Clean, structured, and positive. Excellent school!!! Great instruction for beginners and great mat time for advanced students. Truly a friendly atmosphere with a high level of training.
Great place to train BJJ. Professors Ulpiano and Inacio are great with the kids. Gym is always clean, organized, and everyone is friendly. Great for families.
Gracie Barra Westachse is one of the best school to train in Houston area. The facility is clean, mats are huge and students makes you feel welcome but what makes this school different is the leadership of Professor Ulpiano. He is professional, passionate about his students development and is ALWAYS looking to help the community and people around him. He is always there to help anyone in need. As a bonus you will be taught by Professor Inacio which is a beast, along many other amazing coaches. Give it a try and see with your own eyes.
I´ve had a very good experience in this academy. The instructors/professors are very nice for both, muay-thai and jiu-jitsu. I normally train in Mexico, but when i come to Houston to visit, I ask Professor Ulpiano to let me train in his academy. He always welcomes me with open arms. Plus the instructors are very good at what they do, and there is a lot of knowledge you can get from them. If you come to Houston I recommend visiting this academy.
Well, I moved to Houston and decided to Start training BJJ, so I met Prof Ulpiano and his GYMs, great academy clean, nice staffs, really great professors, very family environment. deeply recommend people to train with Westchase Gracie Barra. very professionals and committed with the sport, family, kids and adults.
My name is Ehab Ahmed , a Black Belt in Traditional Ju Jitsu and Karate. After being literary rejected to learn BJJ from 3 different BJJ school owners, I decided I am going to give it one more shot. I walked into Gracie Barra Westchase and asked to speak to professor Ulpiano. After I had explained to him my situation and my desire to learn BJJ, he accepted me and said " Train for as long as you want for FREE till you feel comfortable" I was honored to be accepted as a student of his. After Hurricane Harvey my school was destroyed, so in the process of building my new school professor Ulpiano paid me a visit and gave me an advise that I am forever thankful for. He helped avoid a huge mistake that I would have made. Thank you for being my teacher and friend
I have been training under Professor Ulpiano Malachia at Gracie Barra Westchase since 2012. It's been for about a little over 6 years. Professor Malachia is a great instructor and very good friend. He is very close to all his students. GB Westchase is not only a school where you just learn Brazilian Jujitsu. You learn about life, friendship and relationships. You also learn about yourself. I highly recommend GB Westchase if you want to grow in everything that you do.
Jumped in on a Muay Thai class while visiting from out of town, and loved everything about this place. Improved on a lot of my technique just from one class. Very welcoming, great instructors, clean facilities, all the equipment one could possibly want or need. And the big showers are a nice plus. If I ever move back to H-town, this will definitely be my Muay Thai gym!
Great school! Very clean, offers lots of classes throughout the day making it perfect for any schedule, and amazing professors and students with positive attitudes. Very friendly and healthy environment for those that just want to do it for excersise, learn self defense, or compete. I highly recommend this school to anybody with any interest in martial arts! They offer everything!
I enjoy taking my 3 year old to this class as much as he does, I like how even at that small age they're so smart to follow instructions and try their best do the exercise. I would recommend this school to all parents that have high energetic children like my son :)
Awesome place to train. Instructors and Staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Everyone is treated with respect. I'm very happy to be a member of Gracie Barra Westchase
Incredible school one of the best GB facilities in the Country. Clean, spacious and really friendly. Top professors specially the head instructor Prof Ulpiano Malachias the guy is the real deal, if you're around Westchase looking for a martial arts school with awesome training and a great atmosphere look no further GB Westchase is the place for you.
I just stopped in for a Jiu-Jitsu class while visiting from Atlanta. I had a great time and the people are wonderful! I would definitely recommend them!
Gracie Barra is the place to train that will not only push you but help you exceed your goals whether that goal is fitness, weight loss, or training to become a professional fighter. The facility is always clean, great coaches/professors who fight/compete so the training is firsthand. Hands down the best place to train in Houston.
In Houston for work, dropped in last night for no gi. Very nice facility, clean and huge, I travel all over the country and have dropped in to a lot of gyms and this is one of the nicest I have ever seen. Very welcoming group of people, I got some good rolls in and had a great time. When in Houston this is where I will be training.
I've been going to this school multiple times a week for just over a year now and I have no idea why it has taken me so long to write a positive review for this place. Paramount leadership and exquisite community leads to a great learning environment for all involved. I solely train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but you can't go wrong with learning Muay Thai here or frequenting the Cardio Kickboxing classes if more accurately suits your needs. No reason no to try a free trial class & I guarantee you won't leave disappointed. Oh, and learning from multiple world renowned professors is always a plus. :)
We enrolled my daughter at 4 years old into this program because she was very shy and we wanted her to gain some confidence. She immediately leaned on the female coach for comfort but after a couple months, she loved all the Professors & Coaches. This is a family friendly program and I cannot say enough good things about it. We've visited other Gracie Barra Gyms and I can vouch that this place is very nice, spacious and the equipment is very new. The mats are very forgiving and you can tell a lot of money went into putting this place together. They keep it extremely clean which is very important to me. They have many kids programs and separate the classes by Little Champs 1 & Little Champs 2 so kids are separated by age and your little one doesn't end up sparring with a kid twice their size. We've found that other gyms with less members mix their Champs 1 & 2 and do not have as strict of rules as Gracie Barra Westchase which makes me nervous. I wouldn't want my 5 year old daughter sparring with an 8+ year old. This doesn't happen at Gracie Barra Westchase. Another thing I notice at other gyms I have visited is the amount of black belts on the mat teaching the children. I've never seen 3 black belt professors at one time on the mat for kids. I've seen many gyms with blue belts or brown belts sometimes even white and purple belts. I believe they probably had a lot of kids and needed more coaches which you will see at Gracie Barra Westchase sometimes but there will always be the main black belt professors teaching the class while the other coaches assist. I feel very lucky to have found a school this professional! Also the Professor is ranked in the top 100 on the IBJJF ranking. That is top notch right there! Good luck finding a better teacher & better school! After seeing our daughter grow and her confidence skyrocket, we decided to join some of their adult programs as well. Our whole family now has joined this gym and this program has changed our lives. Cardio Kickboxing is definitely intense, but I have seen major results! If you would have asked me a couple years ago if I would consider practicing jiu jitsu, I would have laughed. However, now I can't imagine ever quitting. I highly recommend this school and enrolling your children or yourself. It is the best thing we've ever done for our once shy little girl and for our own healthier lifestyles.
My review is for Muay Thai/Cardio Kick Boxing courses and the facility. I did not take BJJ or wrestling. The facility is clean and the staff are very helpful. I spent 2 years hear, first doing Muay Thai then I switched over to Cardio Kick Boxing. Muay Thai can be good if you find a class you enjoy. Some classes are very full and others are very empty. It depends on the time and who's teaching. The down side is that the evening classes have different instructors on different days, and this can get frustrating since they teach different styles. One instructor might do a more traditional muay thai style, and another would do a style that's like a hybrid with boxing. So if you want to show up daily you either show up to the earlier classes, which have a consistent instructor or you have to accept that you're going to have instructors that teach conflicting styles and just be flexible. As for the cardio kick boxing, I ended up preferring this because the instructor for that time of day is consistent, so you know what to expect from them, and I felt like I was getting a great workout from showing up to these classes. There are several different instructors, each dedicated to a different time slot, and they each have a different style of class, but all of them were keeping me on my toes and pushing me to my limits. The classes were definitely worth the money and time to improve my fitness.
How terrible is it that my kids (4 year old and 8 yo) went here to sell candy and chips and my little one accidently left the bag there( we bought a water there and she got distracted I started walking to the car and ddnt look back to make sure she had the bag) wen we came back to pick it up all the chips and candy were gone. I know this has nothing to do with the training here but I just wanted to voice out. Kind of feels like they took candy from a baby literally. 😑 oh I also asked about how much the classes were because my son use to be in Jujitsu and my question was completely ignored and they just gave me a paper of hours of the classes and wen I tried asking how much a specific class was I got ignored. The cleaning people that were there were when I went to pick up my kids candy bag that was now empty the second time we went there . The first day we whent to sell candy there were people wearing Gi's. 😑
This place used to be better, but now is ... some coachs are not there for teaching your kid! They talk to their friends while the kids are competing! Or they just play attentions to some kids. Anyway! Not a good place to learn anymore! It used to be better!
toxic culture, aggressive coaches and they are not friendly at all .
Poor service, I don’t recommend they turn evil if you forget a payment or try to cancel the services, there are more places are better and friendly
toxic culture, multiple coaches demonstrated mental and emotional instability
I went in to inquire about classes and the lady at the front desk was not the friendliest and was easily annoyed by my questions. Now imagine my shock when I see that for me and my 3 kids would require a $1462 upfront payment... $100 Registration Fees per member, $135+ Uniform per member, $132+ First month per member. The membership is a financed billing service that cannot be cancelled or it will end up on your credit report. As much as I would love to join this gym, the start up fees does not make any financial sense.
