Dropped in from out of town. Professor Justin led the class. Taught some breaking the guard and passing. Gym was clean and welcoming. Professor Amit and Justin are holding up the standard expected of Red Shield. OSSS! Thanks for the rolls!

My son has been in the Little Champions program for almost 6 months. I can't say enough about Professor Amit and Coach Dan. They are incredibly patient with the kids. The kids are engaged with the lesson. They have a lot fun but it's not just a playground, they are learning real skills. Not just jiu-jitsu and self-defense, but also patience, responsibility and teamwork. I'm proud of the progress my son has made as a member of the Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley team and hope he continues to grow and learn here.

Couldn’t be more happy with this gym, the culture, the instructors and team members. A very focused but light hearted environment that is extremely welcoming. From the outset of my training, every higher belt was a coach and took the time to teach. No egos, just good people. Professor Justin’s amiable personality combined with his vast technical skill and knowledge is unparalleled. If you’re looking for a welcoming culture, to learn and grow in your BJJ, Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley is the place to do it.

Pick a jiu jitsu gym that's close to work or home - this one is 3 minutes from my work ... one that has highly qualified instructors - Prof. Marcelo is a world-class competitor ... and one with great people - Prof. Justin is an amazing instructor and everyone here is welcoming and encouraging. That was my formula and even though I now work 35+minutes away, I still drive there 3x a week because I can't imagine not doing it.

Great gym that is conveniently located off the freeway and parking is never an issue. Professor Marcelo is a world-class professor who breaks down every technique for ALL levels to understand. The gym culture is welcoming and supportive in ensuring that each student gets the most out of their training. Highly recommend this gym to anyone ever considering learning or continuing their training in Brazilian Jiu Jutsu.

I've trained in different BJJ schools when I was traveling around the world, and I can really appreciate Proffesor Marcelo's training style. It's a very beginner-friendly environment, focus on solid foundation skills vs flashy moves you would never do in sparring, great workout routine, lots of training options (lunch time, evening, weekends even) and a place full of friendly faces. Highly recommended.

I had an interest for a long time, and just did not have the nerve to try it. I finally was driven because of UFC, of course, & was fascinated with Royce Gracie's unlikely accomplishment. finally, I felt like I wanted to do something for myself, and did a lot of YouTubing & reading to get a grasp of what BJJ was like. I finally looked at places nearby and weighed my options and for a variety of reasons, I picked Gracie Barra, Sorrento Valley. It took me two days before I had enough nerve to walk in to ask questions. Brian was there to help me and he was very welcoming and very nice to me. I was put at ease immediately, and I did not feel like I walked into Cobra Kai, and getting yelled at! I was encouraged to come in and with the help of Agi, I got in & my first class was with Professor Ryan... I had NO idea what I was doing but everyone who approached me was very helpful, so I did not feel like a total loser. As I went to more classes, I got to meet other students and they are all welcoming & cool. I did not get a negative vibe at all. I was able to meet the other two professors, Marcelo &Justin; they made me feel at home, & a little better about myself with every class I saw them. My 52 yr-old body has been sore as I can remember, but it is worth it to me. Thank you for a great ongoing experience!

I and both of my kids have attended for over 8 months. The anti-bully and core curriculum training have been fantastic. Prof. Marcelo has leads by example and has takes a more traditional approach to teaching. The coaches are great with all kids, including those who may need additional focus (e.g. ADD). I look forward to being a long term student and seeing my son and daughter progress in their BJJ journey, enjoying the lifestyle. I can't say enough good things about Prof Marcelo and Prof Justin.

Great place to train. Professor Marcelo is very welcoming and a top notch instructor. The facilities are very clean and the classes are well structured. Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley is a great gym for anyone interested in starting or already seasoned in brazilian jiu jitsu. Professor Marcelo is old school and very well rounded. He regularly spars with lower belts and the other black belts, he emphasizes jiu jitsu has an impact on your life as a whole. Improved confidence, stress relief, physical conditioning, friendships, self defense and many other benefits to training jiu jitsu Hope to see you on the mats!

Love this family! Proffesor Marcelo has patience and has feet on earth. Mates are awesome protecting everyone in the dojo. You don't stop learning here! On a side note, gained a lot of stamina, confidence and control, lost 10 lbs of fat during my first 5 weeks. They have a noon class that fits perfect for people working around mira mesa. If you are working business hours and can't find a time to learn about your dreams...skip lunch 3x week and join us. You WILL BE hooked! Sincerely. Update: for everyone i bring in i get a uniform, i will give it to you

If you are looking for one of the best BJJ gyms in San Diego look no further. Professor Marcel and Justin are awesome! I have made tons of friends here and it is now like a second home. People ask what has improved in my life by taking BJJ. Well my attitude has changed, I am way more mello and don't stress about anything. I used to be frustrated and didn't know how to channel my energy. After a few short months I felt transformed, a year later I felt like a new person. My energy at work and in my personal life has increased and I am more productive at every thing I do. Come in and see what it's about. I guarantee you will change for the better, body and mind.

Professor Marcelo Pereira is the coolest guy. If you want authentic old-school Brazilian Jiu Jitsu straight from the source (like I did!) then check out his school. Want to be able to kill a lion with your bare hands?! It's no problem! Professor Marcelo Pereira will teach you! It's easy when you know how!

I've been coming for about 6 months now and I am always looking forward to the next class. Through drilling of the basics and more advanced techniques you build a solid foundation of how to handle yourself in any situation. I started at 42 years old, so I think it's never too late to start. It might be the best decision you ever made.

This is a great school! I did a bit of research looking for a school that had first rate training as well as a nice gym with a very experienced professor to learn and train with. After a bit of looking I found Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley to be top class. I went in for a trial day and Professor Marcelo was very hospitable and welcoming. It felt as if I had been training there for years. A really great group of guys, and girls to learn with that have become like family. Proffessor Justin adds another great perspective and technique towards Jiu Jitsu as well as being an expert in stand up. Both Professor Marcelo, and Professor Justin are World champs in there own right, and champion leaders in character, and morals as well. A great team of coaches to supplement and round out the gym. I've also came early before my class and was able to watch the kids class they were holding right before mine. I really like how fun they made learning for the kids to keep them interested. I've been training here for close to a year now and have found it to be a great all around gym for the serious competitor, someone looking for self defense training, or just to get in great shape. It's also a perfect family gym and atmosphere. Look no further then Gracie Barra Sorrento Vally!

From the moment I walked in the door Professor Marcelo and his students made me feel like family. I've had the opportunity to train with various schools throughout my jiu-jitsu career, but never under anyone who has had such experience and knowledge in the art. With professor's light hearted and fun loving analogies, you will laugh your way to a more confident self while learning solid fundamentals. Whether its your first day of learning self defense, or a few years into the jiu-jitsu journey this place has everything needed to pursue your goal. Oss!

Great professors! Care about instilling values and techniques to students. It's always about technique technique and technique. Feel like I'm actually learning BJJ this way. Also I love the sparring. Very clean gym. Nice atmosphere. Everyone is about learning and having fun. Glad I'm able to be a part of this gym and to learn from Professor Marcelo and Professor Justin.

I recently turned 37 and decided I wanted to get back in shape. I get bored in the gym so I wanted to find something a little different. After researching various martial arts I decided to try jiu jitsu. San Diego is the mecca of jiu jitsu so there are a lot of options. I tried a few schools in the area and none of them felt like a good match. I saw Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley and decided to try out their free intro class. From the first time I stepped on the mats I felt like I was part of a family. Professor Marcelo is awesome and has the rare combination of true skill and the passion to teach. He always makes a point of showing the small details that can make or break a technique. The facilities are great. Everything is spotless and clean. Parking is easy and the location is convenient and close to the freeways and Mira Mesa Blvd. Whether you are brand new to the sport, or if you have been training for years, I would highly recommend Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley. Take advantage of the free intro class and see for yourself. Hope to see you on the mats!

Nice staff & dedicated professor. Kids look like they enjoy it. They could use an air conditioner in the summer though.

They are fraudsters. Charged for extra 5 months and then refused to return money.
