  I was visiting San Diego and checked out Legion for their well-known open mat on Sundays. The amount of people in attendance was incredible! Plenty of rolls to go around! The facility was really nice and the mats were excellent quality, clean, and the area was spacious. The bathrooms are super clean and stocked with good amenities. Troy, the front desk staff, was super hospitable and friendly. Would highly recommend for people to check it out if you find yourself in San Diego :)

  The 5 week beginners program is fantastic - great instructors and love that there are tons of women to train with as well. Paige, Miha, Austin, and Andris are all stellar instructors!! The culture here is great as well. Would be nice to have more showers for the women though..

  Really enjoyed the Beginner Course and looking forward to continuing on training at Legion. The coaches are expert and attentive, and I felt that everyone was getting good feedback on drills. We were a large class, but there was always an instructor nearby ready to help optimize the position. Couldn’t recommend it more to folks looking to try out jiu jitsu!

  One of the best gyms I’ve ever been too in my 8 years of jiujitsu. From walking in and being greeted by Troy to the clean locker rooms with plenty of space, wide variety of rolls with friendly tough people who were very careful not to crank any submissions but instead gave me the opportunity to work in the position. If you’re a beginner or advanced this is the perfect place to drop in at and start your jiujitsu journey

  Really nice space. Best open mat in the area. Big space, clean moderm facilities and friendly staff. My only "gripe" is no public wifi 😅 But seriously it's one of the best jiu jitsu gyms in America for a reason. Keenan and at least a few of their coaches are there every time, and very friendly. They will probably roll with you if you ask. Fun, welcoming environment. Definitely more of a higher-skill open mat overall, but some beginners as well. Both gi and nogi. Big space and plenty of parking. Lots of shower space. Well worth the trip if you're in San Diego. And definitely the gym I'd join if I lived here.

  Every time I am in San Diego. I make an effort to train at Legion's open mat on Sundays. From the front desk's consistently friendly welcome (or welcome back!), to the cleanliness of the bathrooms (which are always well-stocked with the essentials), the enormous mat space, the variety of belts training Gi or NoGi, and the opportunities to meet new training partners, my time at Legion and the connections made have been memorable and I highly recommend to anyone visiting SD. One of their newest black belts, Paige Borras, also hosted her first all women Jiu Jitsu training camp over the summer, and I have to say, it was the most incredible experience, very well thought out, and I had the opportunity to learn not only from Paige, but also from Brianna Ste-Marie, Kendall Reusing, and Victoria Vortex Anthony. I left the mats that weekend feeling empowered and full of gratitude, knowing there is a growing community of women out there with an undeniable passion for this sport, with some of the most amazing ladies trailblazing the path for the rest of us who are newer to martial arts in general. 10/10 recommend.

  Amazing gym, great culture, great coaches and students filled with a warrior spirit. Do yourself and your Jiu jitsu game a favor and train here. The Sunday open mats are huge and people from all over the area travel to attend, their gi classes of 40+ students nightly prove the gi is not dead, their no-gi classes are huge as well. Lots of wrestling, judo , sparring from the feet, judo for Jiu jitsu class is a must take. Plenty of Jiu jitsu “games” or positional sparring with defined goals that help facilitate personal realization and growth. I’ve trained at many gyms around the world this is truly something special here.

  The best learning environment for anyone brand new all the way to seasoned black belts. Shoutout to coach Amber! She’s always helping my kids get better. Everything about this gym is clean, and my first impression of the gym was the front desk: Courtney and Gannon are the perfect mixture of friendly and professional. It feels like we’ve become close friends after a few rolls. Other gyms will hand you a paper with prices, but this gym will really get to know your goals and are open to negotiation.

  Dropping in from Bellingham Washington for a week of Nogi and Sloan’s instructions is great. I’ve been training for 5 years and 2 things I look out for at other gyms is cleanliness and if women are training there. Legion knocks both out of the park, it’s a very inviting atmosphere and a tough room!

  What an amazing place! The staff here are absolute gems. Thank you Miha for showing me around and making me feel welcome! The open mat is like a giant playground with all your friends! There was a wide spectrum of skills and levels, something for everyone. There were no egos or attitudes, just fun and challenge! The whole area is clean and sanitary with a great water station with ice to refuel during rounds. Highly recommend this place!
