Ever since my son joined this academy I noticed he is very enthusiastic to train in jiu-jitsu. I’m confident Noah will gain good discipline and self defense from the leadership of Professor Doug and Professor Christina, as well as his coaches, Phil, Eric, Ji, and Junior. I am very glad we joined this academy and look forward for Noah’s journey ahead!
To be honest, this review is way overdue! My family has had the joy of being a part of this awesome Gracie tribe for over a year and I can’t say enough good things. All of the coaches are amazing and are so personally invested in each person that is training. It’s more like a second family than just a jiu Jitsu school. My sons have grown so much since they have joined. They have grown not just in their skills but in their confidence and mental strength and they genuinely love all their coaches and team. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Oceanside!
Gracie Barra Oceanside is Amazing! My son has been Enrolled for about 9 months, I’ve seen improvement in him. His respectful he listens, and his learning self defense which is really important to me. Professor Doug and professor Cristina are amazing and take the time to talk to you about you child and ways to improve. Coach Phil, coach Eric and coach Ji are all amazing as well! Couldn’t ask for anything better it’s so great I joined myself and it’s helped me in my personal life a lot! If you’re thinking of joining or putting your little ones in don’t just do it! Best choice I made
Third times a charm! I've been with my kids at UFC gym and 10th Planet before Gracie Oceanside. We loved UFC gym but unfortunately they didn't have a structured/ organized belt promoting system. When the quarantine was lifted, UFC gym near us closed down. For 10th planet, as much as we wanted to get into No Gi, we just wasn't feeling the energy of the staff. Also, some of the kids got away with murder as the staff didn't hold them accountable and could be distracting at times to others trying to learn. I had always wanted to join Gracie but I really wanted a strong No Gi option along with Gi. After giving the free class a try, our entire family was sold. I had a few other places we were going to try but all of us liked it so much we decided to sign up and reasses after a month's time. Before the month was up, we all agreed this is our spot. Not only is the instruction top notch, but the entire staff is incredible and great at what they do... every one of them. This gym puts safety in the forefront. The ratio of staff/students is way more than I've ever seen which equates to a more efficient and productive learning experience. Gracie Oceanside instills leadership, good behavior, and positive principles to their students. Even more so for their children programs. I can't explain the feeling when you see your kids are happy where they are at and what they are learning and look forward to their classes. As long as we are in Oceanside, Gracie Barra Oceanside will always be our jiu-jitsu gym. Highly recommend anyone looking for a jiu-jitsu gym to check this place out. We started our son at Gracie Barra as a way to build self confidence and to build skills to learn to protect himself. His shyness was very apparent every time he stepped onto the mats for the first few months. Professor Doug tells each person who walks through those doors, it takes courage to step onto those mats. What Doug and Christina have cultivated and curated at Gracie Barra is simply amazing and works to build that confidence. The professors, coaches, and students are encouraging and caring. You truly feel as if you’re among family.

GB Oceanside is the perfect place for kids to develop discipline & foster their growth. I love the values they instill throughout class. It’s quite a family place, many of the assisting coaches are parents, so you can tell their level of support for kids is a step above traditional martial arts studios given their level of participation throughout all classes. Safety & protecting your partner is also at top of mind as they practice various techniques. Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu has developed my son’s confidence, discipline and vastly improved his listening skills. Gracie Barra Oceanside has been a huge growing experience for our family. First, we were welcomed into the community from everyone. Professors, coaches, students and the kids all share the same upbeat and cheerful demeanor. My children initially were on the timid side and in less than a few months are a lot more confident in themselves and most importantly are just as excited watching the accomplishments of their teammates. They are excited to be in the atmosphere everyday and will even come when I go to the adult classes. It’s a great family atmosphere that we look forward to being a part of for years to come.

Profesor Doug and his wife are amazing people. His staff is attentive to the students. They all love Jiujitsu and helping kids grow self confidence. Have been training for almost a year now and I can say it’s the best decision I made in my life. I looked online for schools and saw GB Oceanside nearby. I filled out the information online and received a call that same day to come in for a trial class. I went in gave it a try and instantly knew this is something that I wanted to put my time and effort into. The professors and staff here are very knowledgeable and they keep it running smoothly. the students here give you a great sense of camaraderie. If you are interested in joining a jiu jitsu school I would highly recommend Gracie Barra Oceanside. I only wish I would’ve found them sooner!!
Great place to train BJJ. Professor Doug is great at explaining everything I went there not knowing anything about it and have learned so much. This place feels really homey, all the coaches are good at teaching. The kids classes are great too really patient with younger kids.
My 8-year-old son and I came to a trial class over 8 months ago and we've loved it ever since! I was looking for a place where my son can learn self-defense (because he had a few instances of bullying) and so I tried it out with him to help him gain confidence in trying out a new sport. I had absolutely NO IDEA I would fall completely in love with the sport as well! It's a little scary to try out a sport, especially a grappling sport like jiu jitsu for a female (and this was my first sport ever). But Professor Doug and Professor Christina are amazing! They're so encouraging and supportive. All of the female jiu jitsu athletes at Gracie Barra Oceanside are also so welcoming. Everyone who trains there are all respectful of one another and take care of each other. We've found more than just a jiu jitsu academy, we've found a community! The facility is also kept clean and is very family friendly. They really ring true to the saying "jiu jitsu for everyone". I can't imagine life without jiu jitsu anymore. :)
I am so happy my husband and I decided to put our daughter in Jiu Jitsu. We have been going to the Oceanside GB for a couple months now and to say it’s been amazing is an understatement. The staff are all wonderful with the students. My favorite part is they teach real life situations to the kids and always have wonderful lessons at the end about responsibility, respect, etc. I highly recommend this place.

I started my Jiu Jitsu journey about two months ago and my experience has been amazing. I put in my information online and I was promptly reach out to for a trial class, I went and gave it a try and I was instantly hooked. Professor Doug is an exceptional professor and truly cares for his students. Everyone at the gym is friendly, there to train, get better and take care of one another. If you’re looking into joining a jiu jitsu gym I cannot recommend this place enough, don’t hesitate any longer! Only thing I wish I would have done differently is joined this gym sooner!

This gym is great! If you have been considering trying out jui jitsu or resuming your training after this pandemic give this place a try! Professor Doug is a amazing teacher and the community that goes here are very friendly and knowledgeable. Facility and mats are kept very clean here and it is very easy to want to come back and train multiple times a week!

I cannot recommend enough! I decided to enroll my 5 yr old to give him something to channel his huge amount of energy into and to say it’s helped is an understatement. Not only is Professor Doug and the coaches teaching him to defend himself but also teach him and the other students important life lessons that I can see helping to shape him into a very well mannered kid. He loves going to class, and he asks me every single day if he’s going to jiu jitsu. Definitely give them a try!
I started training a couple months ago with my husband and I'm in love with jiu-jitsu!! Coach Christina is an amazing instructor. The other woman-warriors are just as awesome to train and work with as well! It's clear that Professor Doug, his family, and staff care about the development and growth of all their students.

My family LOVES professor Doug and the whole team. My 2 kids (girl 8 & boy 3.5 years) have improved in so many areas since they started. Coordination and balance have gone up. For the 8 year old I see improvement when she skates , surfs and ball sports. She’s picking things up faster and she concentrates better. With COVID obviously school has been different. She now has a group of girls at Gracie Barra that she gets to socialize with. Her concentration with the new school schedule has been great too. (Honor role 🤓, which is not how the last few years have been) her confidence level has been growing , it’s been great. My son who is almost 4 also has shown improvement in balance and coordination (as much as a toddler can 😂). My son has improved with listening to instructions. He’s become mr rules around the house. Always wanting to be doing the right thing , protective of his dog ,family. His phrases have be come “lazer focus” and “ I don’t quit”. The staff have been top notch about cleaning and sanitation. The price system is great , 2 kids ain’t easy but it’s not painful paying either. Professor Doug and all the staff are so good with the kids. Every lesson is paired with a moral lesson. Team work , respect etc.. I’ve talked to my kids about stranger danger before. When professor Doug did , then practiced how to escape. The concept became real to my daughter. The great thing is , she’s becoming confident that she can handle herself. So many proud dad moments. I could go on and on.

My 3 years old daughter loves to go to their classes! Great teachers, very friendly, very professional and always clean training space. Even though it's a little too early for my little one to understand all the moves and stuff, they always make sure that these moments are enjoyable. That's why I love taking her there and watch her grow, so THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!
All the coaches and the professor treat you like family once you walk into their doors. Classes are very easy to understand and follow, especially when the professor explain each move and how they work with one another. Aside from that, they take care of one another and constantly remind everyone of that before grappling.
Love this place! Great coaches and great training. I live further away, and coming here is absolutely worth it for the quality environment and all around self development. Compared to other places Ive tried, this is absolutely a wonderful community to be apart of!!! 👍
The slogan of Gracie Barra is ”Jiu Jitsu for everyone”! I believe that Gracie Barra Oceanside embodies that slogan in the feeling that it inspires in each student. The welcoming atmosphere acts as a beacon that attracts everyone. Some members are just trying to get into shape while others are preparing for tournaments. Regardless of age, athletic ability or skill level Gracie Barra Oceanside is for everyone.

I’ve trained at many MMA and BJJ gyms over the past 10 years, but none compare to GB Oceanside! Professor Doug and Coach Christina provide top notch instruction and make everyone feel like family. The classes are tailored to all different skill and ability levels, so no previous martial arts experience is necessary. My wife and oldest son recently started training too and they love it! As soon as my younger ones are old enough, the whole family will be on the mat at GB Oceanside!

Just recently had the chance to stop in and check out the new location of Gracie Barra Oceanside location and I wasn't disappointed! Clean, good vibes, and great training, now a student of the new Gracie Barra of Oceanside. Top notch instruction from a true BJJ black belt! One of the best coaches he explains everything in detail. All the way down to finger positions and which way to look with your eyes (yes, it can be that important of a detail). It's awesome to see everyone from all walks of life get together and have fun learning Jiu Jitsu. No egos just drilling, rolling, and growing together.
The coaches at GB Oceanside are amazing! My daughter trained with them for 6 months at another location and when they opened their own gym we transferred. They are great with kids, and patient in their teaching. My daughter would go there every day if she could. Highly recommend!
I called and set up a trial class. They called me a day later and told me I was too experienced and not welcome at their academy. What kind of blackbelt turns someone away based off of experience? I’ve been training 10+ years and have trained at numerous academies and have never experienced anything like this. I’ve never actually trained there but based on this experience alone I would seek training elsewhere.
