Professor Helen Arruda started training Jiu-Jitsu in 2012 in Houston, TX. Her professor from white to black belt is professor Vinicius “Draculino”. Working for the Gracie Barra organization since 2014, she trains and teaches and is especially involved in the Women’s classes.
Professor Jimmie Lowrie has been training Jiu-Jitsu for over 10 years. He started training to get in shape, learned about the Gracie Diet and after combining good training with dieting lost about 40 pounds. He is a 44 years old black belt and received his black belt in 2019 at the Gracie Barra World Summit, directly from the hands of Gracie Barra founder Master Carlos Gracie Jr.
Professor Kaliffa Oliveira has been training Jiu-Jitsu since 1998 and got his black belt back in 2013. He is one of the partners of GB Huntsville, the owner of GB Pelham, and the Regional Director for Alabama within the Gracie Barra organization.
Phenomenal school with extremely talented, knowledgeable, and well rounded professors and coaches. My two sons (ages 6 & 10) and I train here and have been treated like family by everyone from the moment that we walked through the door. Jiu Jitsu has changed my life for the better, given me something to share with my children for the rest of our lives, and truly is for everyone of all ages and ability.

I'm from out of town and dropped in for the Thursday morning 6am class. I had a great time. The instructor Jimmy provided a great lesson and was very welcoming along with the rest of the team. The facility was one of the nicer I have ever seen. I will definitely drop in again next time I'm in town. Thanks for the hospitality and rolls! Professors Helen and Jimmie are so welcoming and brilliant at teaching jiujitsu. On my first day, I felt like I was part of the family at Gracie Barra Huntsville. As a woman, it can be intimidating to try a male-dominated sport, but this is a great place for women of all ages to train as well as make friends!

Exceptional School! I had been looking for a Gracie Barra to open in Huntsville for several years. I wanted to recommend a good martial arts program for my grand children. I'm so glad they opened. Instructors Helen and Jimmie provide excellent coaching while leading the fun and engaging classes. The class schedule is substantial and flexible enough to allow me to attend multiple trainings each week, even with my busy work/family life. The facility is very clean, the training mats are always spotless. The classes are approachable even for complete beginners, and there is a friendly, welcoming, and positive gym culture.

Let me start by saying as of today, I was out for the last 2 months. Life was just hitting me all at once. But when I walked in (late btw, Lol) I was greeted with a big smile and genuine hug from Professor Helen! That was my first contact walking through the doors after 2 months of being absent (and they checked up on me periodically). Both Professor Jimmie and Professor Helen are class acts! Professional yet friendly and approachable with a desire to see their students succeed. I never feel out of place and their attention to detail when teaching is impeccable. As my "name" tells, I'm a Krav Instructor who knows the importance of having a better ground game and that's why I'm "here". Gracie Barra is a HUGE organization with a small town feeling of acceptance for everyone. If you're looking for the best in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I encourage you not to hesitate to bring yourself or your kids to Gracie Barra of Huntsville. 5 Stars all the way!

This is an amazing place and both professors Helen and Jimmie are incredibly talented and attentive. ABSOLUTELY, LOVE Gracie Barra!!! My child just started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to watch her learn and develop in each session is absolutely amazing. Professor Jimmie and Professor Helen take the time to make sure the kids are understanding the techniques and the reason behind what is being taught to them in each session.
