I've been training at this gym for close to four years. Gracie Barra Heights offers some of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Texas. The professors are all Black Belt World Champions and provide an extremely high level of instruction. The company is well-run, disciplined, and extremely family-friendly. I highly recommend kids and adults of all ages take part.

I can’t say enough good things about this gym! I joined in 2017 hoping to lose some weight. Since then I have lost 50 lbs, learned so much about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and met some amazing friends. I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! Learning a sport from scratch can be intimidating, but the instruction and environment here really make it worth it.

I wanted to give a shoutout to Gracie Barra Heights for their exceptional instructors and top-notch training. The instructors are not only highly skilled (world champions) but also incredibly supportive and dedicated to helping students improve their game. The availability of classes is a big deal to me beacuse I have to train around shift work. The access to mutiple classes daily combined with exceptional instruction has really helped me progress in my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey. If you're looking for quality instruction in a positive and welcoming environment, Gracie Barra Heights is a solid choice!

I have so much appreciation for this school, the people who run it, and the people I get to train with here. I started training BJJ in 2021 prior to which I had absolutely no idea what the sport was. What I've received from my training over the years has gone far beyond my expectations. Yes, it's a great workout, the self defense application is undeniable, and I've learned a lot of "fun" submissions. What I did not expect was the positive impacts that BJJ would have on my mental health, confidence, and outlook on life. There are very few things that I have done in life that require absolute focus and presence in the moment. Jiu Jitsu does that for me at the highest level, something I'll always be thankful for. Thanks for everything you do Pedro, Lucas and Jessica!

I have been training at this place since October 2022. My experience has been stellar. The gym is clean and offers a lot of time options for you to fit it in your schedule. On the training side, Pedro, Lucas and Jess are amazing teachers, whether you are a beginner or an advanced student they will help you learn and grow. Beyond this, the strongest quality of the gym is its community, the students and professors are welcoming and helpful making this place a great environment to be in.

I’ve been training here for almost 2 years, and Jiu-Jitsu has significantly improved my life. It’s an amazing workout that not only gets you stronger and fitter but is also really fun. Plus, you pick up a trick or two in self-defense, which is pretty cool. Professors Jessica, Lucas, and Pedro are literally world-class Jiu-Jitsu athletes, but what truly sets them apart is their ability as fantastic teachers. They take genuine time to work with you, showing you the ropes and caring deeply about your progress. It’s not just about learning the moves; they ensure you understand the techniques by breaking things down and demonstrating how it’s all done. The gym vibe is great; everyone is really welcoming, and no one takes themselves too seriously. Safety is a priority since we all have day jobs that come first, ensuring there’s room for everyone, whether you want to compete or just focus on getting fit and learning cool stuff. Plus, the place is spotless; they keep everything super clean and tidy. So yeah, if you're thinking about diving into Jiu-Jitsu, GB Heights is the place to be. Couldn't recommend it enough!

I began training at Gracie Barra Heights in Fall 2021 and it has been a major game changer in my life. I initially joined GB Heights as I had heard how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great workout and I wanted to try a different workout to help with my fitness journey. I didn’t realize the benefits it would have on my mental health and overall self-esteem. I have experienced so much transformation both physically and mentally due to BJJ. The Professors at GB Heights are a huge part of this transformation. Their leadership, experience, and encouragement to keep overcoming the challenges and don’t give up has helped me tremendously. The Professors at GB Heights also make sure to create a safe environment so that I feel comfortable to train which is very important for me being a woman. I have made some great friendships at GB Heights and view GB Heights as an extended family. If you’re looking to try BJJ and want a positive, challenging, and fun environment to learn/train, GB Heights is where it’s at!

Clean facility, bathrooms are always clean and they always have hand sanitizer for everyone to use at their leisure. Gracie Barra Heights the very best BJJ academy in Houston. They offer great selection of classes for all age groups and proficiency levels. Professors Pedro Araujo and Jessica Flowers are doing outstanding job of not just creating a BJJ school, but building an extended family of people united by the common goal - the goal of becoming better versions of themselves through the power of jiu jitsu. Your trial class is free - you have nothing to loose. Do yourself a favor - just come and the only regret you are going to have: that you didn't come here sooner! Professor Pedro treats his students as family! At all times professor Pedro maintains the highest standards. For example, during the COVID pandemic he went far and beyond to provide all necessary measures to ensure safe training environment for all students: Face masks were required to enter the building, upon entrance students temperature was checked. All students were provided with hand sanitizers. There was an option for non-contact class where students train with wrestling dummy’s. Remote online classes were available as well. After every class the mats in the room are disinfected. It is really impressive to see such dedication to health and safety of the students.

We have been attending classes regularly 3-5x week for the past year and a couple months for our now 5 year old. Meeting Professor Pedro was an accident that I am forever thankful for. Pedro is a 4X World Champion and great with kids! If you want to push yourself and learn Jiu Jitsu in one of the cleanest gyms I have ever been in, this is your place. A special shout out to Sam. Sam trains a crossfit style kickboxing class. I attend his private classes where he challenges me to push further each time. It's a two-way street with a student growing and level of instruction matching the rate of advancment- this is a subtle, gradual, profound, and relative relationship between receiving instruction, learning and getting instruction that's just right for the student. No matter what we think we know having a beginner's mind is key and this means taking whatever is available from each lesson , each day. There is always something more to learn at Gracie Barra.

100% recommend this place! My husband, our 14 year old daughter and I attended the All Levels class in the middle of the day. We were welcomed warmly by Frank who answered our questions, signed us in, and set us up with gis. I feel very fortunate to have had Pedro as our instructor. This was my first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class and so I was definitely nervous. After Pedro demonstrated, everyone partnered up to practice the technique. My daughter and I worked together, taking turns arm barring each other. Since we are both novices, we went slowly, but it was challenging mentally and physically. While we were working, Pedro monitored all the pairs giving pointers to help individuals find success. From time to time, he stopped the entire class to point out what we are doing incorrectly and the small adjustments needed to complete the submission. He explained the details of each technique so well that even an inexperienced student like myself was able to successfully arm bar her opponent--which in my case was my daughter :D We also worked with other students in the class. The drills were challenging, but it moved so quickly that I forgot that I was rolling around on the mat with a stranger. Everyone is there to improve and to help others improve. We really enjoyed our first class and will be visiting again during our summer long stay in Houston.

My son has been going to Gracie Barra since it opened. We were looking for a sport that my 11 yr old son would actually want to partake in as we had tried other sports like football and baseball and he never really took a liking to. When he first started, he was not used to a lot of physical activity and his self confidence was not the best. At times he really had to push himself to finish the classes and would doubt whether he could keep doing the sport. Professor Pedro always encouraged him, kept pushing him to do more and reassured him that he could do the class and that it would get better. Within 6 months, his mindset had completely changed, had more energy and was excited to see that his whole physique had changed. He walks around with a self confidence that he had never had. It has now been 2 1/2 years, my kid is now 14, and in the adult classes. He makes sure to go to as many classes he can, has made great friends and has learned so much from Professor Pedro who he truly respects and admires. He is an instructor that has a lot of patience, is wonderful with kids and is truly passionate about what he does.

Just like other extracurricular activities for 6-10 year olds here in Houston, the system is essentially the same. Be on a contract and pay until you are beat into submission. Rank up is solely on attendance. There is no feedback but then again, it isn't really necessary as it won't mean anything. Do not go on vacation or take a break or you will still get charged, (or you can choose to get a fee instead!) 30 day cancellation notice is needed and more fees. The director didn't care if I canceled or got charged for services that I did not receive after spending over $500. Only positive - it's a nice facility and the instructors are great.

First session at Gracie Barra the lead instructor Pedro demonstrated a choke on me and subsequently broke a bone in my neck, the Hyoid to be specific. Now difficult and uncomfortable to swallow properly. You’d think being a instructor/teacher they would be careful not to injure someone severely on their first day - now it’s a 6 month healing process for me to swallow and move my head normally. The only reason I am writing this is I had sent them a cordial email detailing what happened and asked they take it into account when training new students as I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else. But they never so much as sent me a response so I am posting this review. Don’t care much about the broken bone but the lack of communication is not professional
