I’ve been coming here for about two months and can only say great things about this place. Professor Lucas and Joao are excellent in more ways than just the sport of Jiu Jitsu. They’re kind and understanding and their passion for Jiu Jitsu is infectious. They are always happy and willing to spend some extra time with me as a white belt and improve my techniques and mindset. Moreover, their character is reflected across each one of us students, so you can be sure to be treated well by everyone you see here. I love this place, thank you guys! Edit: I just received my blue belt after a little over a year of training here, and can confidently say I am hooked for life. Jiu-Jitsu, and more specifically Gracie Barra East Mesa, has made a profound impact on me as a person. If you are reading this review, the only downside to joining here is that you can never join soon enough!!

Myself and son had no prior experience with BJJ and we started here in May 2024. The discipline my son has learned in the LC1 class has been amazing and the instruction I receive every time I go is excellent. The family culture is second to none and we are thankful. I highly recommend this location for anyone looking to get into BJJ
We have been at this gym for just over a month. My son cannot wait to go to his classes each week. Professor Lucas and Professor Joao are incredible. They have instilled confidence and discipline within my son. The care that they provide these kids is incredible to watch. We love the warmth and family feel of the gym and 10/10 would recommend to anyone considering.

I have 2 children that do the Little Champions 1 class (3-6) and 3 older children that do the Juniors class (10-14) and this has been nothing but a wonderful experience! 15 years ago, I used to practice BJJ in a different state so I have a background/understanding of BJJ so I feel I can accurately say that Professor Lucas is an amazing BJJ practitioner. Professor Lucas has a perfect balance of patience and kindness yet simultaneously able to maintain discipline and structure, which is a lost art in this day and age. Carol is amazing. She is sweet with the kids and helpful with the adults. And most important, the kids love it! They get upset if they have to miss a class and they work extra hard around the house to earn their attendance to BJJ. There are other BJJ school closer to me. We drive 25 minutes out of the way to come here. They are that good!
I cannot recommend Gracie Barra East Mesa enough. My 4-year-old has been attending classes here for the past few months, and the experience has been fantastic. From the moment he began his trial class, we felt welcomed in their family-friendly environment. The professors are incredibly patient, skilled, and engaging, making each class both fun and challenging. The older students who help out during the class are so kind, helpful and welcoming towards the younger children. It's wonderful to see my son excited to go to jiu jitsu. He’s learning respect, discipline, and burning his energy while having fun. This school has truly been a positive experience for our family.

We joined back in March of this year. Our daughter was pretty timid her first class, but wanted to come back. Now we can’t keep her away! We all love and adore the staff, and it truly has a family atmosphere. Everyone is supportive and encouraging, and applauds everyone’s growth. We can’t say enough things about the professors and Ms. Carol. Our daughter has so much respect for everyone, especially professor Lucas who hS helped her tremendously with discipline, respect, and confidence. ♥️
My 7 year old daughter, my husband and I have been coming here over a year and we love it! The coaches are very knowledgeable and great with the kids. My husband is very athletic and I am very unathletic, but they have classes that suit every level. Highly recommend!

Only Jiu Jitsu gym I’ve been to. Owned and operated by local athletes, that compete on a national/world level. Coach Lucas, Carol, and João are great leaders that run the gym with love and respect for their customers. The gym provides great value for athletes/ fitness enthusiasts looking to build their skills and fitness. Highly recommend, even if you have to drive past other gyms to get here, totally worth it.
I was one of the fortunate students that had the opportunity to train with Professor Norat prior to him opening the East Mesa AZ location. The evolution that has taken place at this gym since day one is nothing short of amazing - especially with respect to the culture that has been built. When you commit to training at this gym, you become like family. We train hard but also genuinely want to see each other succeed. Professor Norat, Carol, and Jaoa have built a phenomenal team and environment for all ages and skill levels. This is by far the best GB gym in the valley.
Joining this Gym was one of the best decisions i made in 2023. I have been attending classes for a little over 3 months now and have truly come to appreciate the atmosphere that is cultivated here. Professor Lucas and Joao are not only excellent teachers but also very kind and understanding and foster a welcoming environment. Coach Carol also brings an energy to the school that fosters inclusivity and caring for the students of all ages. Professor Lucas, Joao, and Carol are also excellent with Kids and seeing how much fun the kids have during their classes has me excited to sign my boys up once they are old enough!

I have trained Jiu-Jitsu for multiple years and visited multiple Gracie Barra and other gyms not affiliated with GB across the country and without hesitation can say this is 1 of if not the best school I have been given the opportunity to train at. The family/team environment they have built here fosters a real community while also being constantly open and welcoming to new comers and visitors. They have a wonderfully structured curriculum taught by world class professional BJJ practitioners. This location does an absolutely wonderful job mixing hobbyists, regular competitors, and professionals with a class schedule, curriculum, and teaching ability that allows for all to grow in their respective directions. If anyone was thinking of starting their Jiu-Jitsu journey or getting their kids and loved 1s started I would 100% recommend this place and if you are looking to take your game a gold medal level this is also the place to be.
Joining Gracie Barra East Mesa was the best decision I have made. I was nervous and Professor Lucas and professor João instantly made me feel comfortable. Coach Carol who runs the front desk is always so quick to greet everyone and make sure everyone is taken care of. Lucas and Joao have also helped create an amazing atmosphere for my six year old daughter to fall in love with Jiu-Jitsu through the juniors classes. I have yet to meet anyone who has had a negative experience through this gym. I highly recommend it for all my friends and families.

My son has learned a lot and loves it .. he loves coming everyday and putting in the hard work to get his stripes to move up.. Shout out to the amazing people who run this jujitsu gym. I have two kids who attend, one is 11 one is 5. These amazing influences in their lives have completely transformed their lives and impacted their behavior in the most positive ways. It’s a blessing to have such special , talented and loving people making such a influence in my families lives. Out of all the gyms I have been apart of across the country this school is by far my favorite. Professor Lucas’s mindset, positivity, knowledge and the way he coach’s each student is hands down the best I’ve ever witnessed. Both my sons as well as myself train here and it has become a second home. The team and all the students are like a second family. I highly recommend anyone who is looking into jiu jitsu come try this school out. You will not be disappointed.

This place has been a great way to get more active than just the gym. There is something more here than just a workout. A great team here to help motivate, encourage, and grow yourself and learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the same time. I worried I would be out of place here at my size and age, but when I started they have been encouraging and helping me grow every step of the way. I'm so glad I was talked into coming, I've really been growing as a person and training my body and my mind. Nothing but good things to say about everybody here. Its a relatively new location, so there are still a lot of new people all the time, which makes it so much easier when you are at the same beginning levels.
This place has been fantastic for our son. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, and the knowledge they have is top notch. I would highly recommend this location for a child or an adult. They don't waste any time and get to teaching right away which I really appreciate, and they are so patient with the kids as they learn new skills.

Professor Lucas and Coach Joao are amazing with my kids, teaching them BJJ and life lessons along the way. It is so nice to feel like part of a big BJJ family. I especially love the family classes every Saturday. There is a play area if you have to bring other kiddos not enrolled in the classes yet.

I have known professor Lucas and coach Joao for several years. They’re amazing BJJ practitioners and amazing people. They both deeply love the practice of BJJ and live that lifestyle. I’m a 39 year old women, who recently received my first stripe on my white belt. I was out of shape but since I’ve been coming to class consistently I have found myself getting back into shape quickly, while noticing I also have more energy throughout my day. The head Instructor, Lucas, is a phenomenal teacher. He has a wealth of knowledge and his love for jiujitsu and teaching is very apparent during his instructions and demonstrations. All of the other instructors are great hands-on facilitators. The location is a beautiful newly renovated facility that is kept clean with huge floor mats and a kids play area for when you have to bring your little ones. Once you enter it feels welcoming , friendly and a facility well taken care of. If you’re looking for personal growth, confidence, or a excellent workout you will find yourself surrounded by great hardworking people here. Gotta check it out! Professor Lucas truly loves his students. He takes time to teach all of the kids proper techniques whiles instilling life lessons. I trust him and his staff completely. Carolina is so welcoming and takes time to explain everything! I highly recommend! If you want you or your child to have discipline, self esteem, confidence and the ability to protect themselves this is where you need and want to be.
Maybe not the gym for me? I was ready and wanted to join so bad, but was turned away. Maybe I need to find another place? Thank you Professor Lucas, I understand, maybe I would seem too aggressive there. Best place for kids for sure. Thank you sir
