I attended a Saturday Open Mat and was immediately welcomed by both the staff and students. The gym has a wealth of experience on the mats, and higher belts are incredibly open to rolling with lower belts. They’re generous with feedback and insights if you ask, making it a great environment for growth and improvement. I’ll definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking to train.

This is an awesome Academy. The coaches are top notch. Clean facility, everyone is welcoming. I attend the 1:00pm class Monday Wednesday and Friday with coach Steve. You get a good sweat in and great coaching on the technique of the week. The only regret I have is that I didn’t start sooner!

They have already taught me so much. I fully intend on coming back week after week. They welcomed me and my son with open arms like we were family. If your looking to train in BJJ I recommend this being where you go.

I really appreciate Ares East Mesa & their amazing coaches for creating a highly disciplined Jiu Jitsu facility with great energy being invested into our community & the next generation! My husband, son & I all joined & love the new skills & muscles we gain at each class. Their coaches are phenomenal! -During the first 6 weeks, I lost 20 pounds attending 3 awesome classes a week… I’m loving all the extra energy! Thank You Coaches Steve, Patrick & Alex!

They are great communicators and well trained fighters, and it is clearly seen in how they interact with their students. I pass through Mesa regularly and visited this Ares East location as training spot whenever I'm here. I joined the morning classes and Professor Dee was very hospitable. I really enjoyed the X Guard sequence he was teaching for the week. Prof Dee is a very technical and professional instructor with a very digestable teaching style. He controls the class really well and is mindful about all the student's different levels and how to partner them accordingly. Great training here. A lot of tough and technical sparring. They have a good range of small to large people, great for variety. Thanks for having me and will be stopping in whenever I'm in the area. Thank you to Alex and Prof Dee.

My son has been attending AEM for several months now after trying a few other gyms. AEM is head and shoulders above any other gym in all areas; professionalism, knowledge, cleanliness, organization etc. Coach Alex is a true leader and natural instructor. He expertly presents the information so that mixed aged young students follow and engage. He easily explains and demonstrates each move with variations and defenses. He works great with the kids and keeps their attention. I am highly impressed with AEM, Coach Alex and his assistants. Highly recommend! Thank you AEM.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first walked into this academy. I knew I wanted to give Jiu Jitsu an honest try for a while so I jumped in with both feet and decided to just sign up and work hard. I was meant with the type of mindset that fit my personality well. The participants and instructors here are passionate about this craft and serious about what they do. Something about the difficulty of BJJ made me unexpectedly fall in love with it. The academy is always clean and the respect and kindness you’re greeted with from day one is second to none. I’ve found a family here that is motivating, encouraging and pushes you to be a better person mentally and physically. You hear horror stories about some jiu jitsu academies and this place is definitely not it. The instruction and competitiveness here is legitimate but is also perfectly welcoming and helpful for first timers. I’ve grown in many ways as a result of being a member here and I intend to practice for the rest of my life because of this place and teaching me what jiu jitsu is all about.

I've moved from San Jose CA to Gilbert AZ in the beginning of 2022, I use to train in one of the best schools in San Jose CTA. I thought would be almost impossible to find another school as good as CTA and with an amazing zombie crew (early morning classes). But that was exactly what I've found with Professor Alex and Coach Tom. The zombie crew is top notch, as though as it gets, and as friendly as possible. If you are in the area and looking for some fun and though rolls make sure you stop by Ares East Mesa. You will not regret it!

I’m from Utah, but my wife’s family lives in Gilbert. Whenever I come to AZ to visit I try to come to as many classes as possible. The experience this gym has is incredible with 4 black belts, and not to mention others who are excellent teachers! I’m currently a white belt, and my BJJ skills have been significantly changed because of the coaching, teaching, other students, and general atmosphere here. They offer so many different training times! This place is definitely your gym, whether you are new or an experienced competitor or just looking for self defense! Juijitsu is an amazing way to workout. It's also a hobby and a skill to refine as well as see results even if it takes a while for those results to coalesce. I'd reccomend anyone to try it and see what it can offer you. About a month ago I was in the Gilbert/Mesa area for a family wedding and was looking for a place to train during my stay. Ares East Mesa BJJ Academy provided me with a "home away from home" mat feel where everyone welcomed me with open arms and tight grips! We were completely new to BJJ, which was intimidating. We are not new to learning curves but when its martial arts there is that extra little bit of hesitation. My wife and I absolutely love this team and the environment. We felt welcomed from day one onward. The warrior challenge is extremely high value, and we got more than what we paid for. A big thank you and a firm handshake to Coach Alex, Coach Chris, Deborah, Aimee, Angel, JR, and everyone else who made our experience great! First experience with bjj. The staff is awesome. Instructors are excellent. This is for my 8 year old. He got to try 3 or 4 classes for free. And if you don't want to commit to a monthly plan you can get a punch card for 10 classes to see if your child will like it. He loves it. Wants to go every day. So we will transition to a monthly plan eventually. Lots of options to try out. Give it a chance. You won't be disappointed.

I was introduced to Ares East Mesa BJJ Academy thru their 6 week Warrior Challenge. I was was stuck in a rut and needed change in my life. My Son and I began this journey together. The classes were really tough at first because I needed to get back into shape, the body adapts quickly. Everyone has been so helpful and patient. Coaches Alex and Chris are encouraging on the mat while Deborah and Aimee support off the mat. Cannot say enough good things about the entire Ares team. My Son and I were both hooked after the first week, sore muscles and all. It has been 6 weeks and I feel great. I have lost over 10 lbs. of fat, gained muscle mass, stamina, and a new support system. I also found classes to be a great stress reliver. I no longer take the stress of work home with me .. . I leave it on the mat. My only regret was not joining sooner. It has been a much needed positive change in my life. Big thank you to the entire Ares East Mesa staff.

I recently drove all the way up from Tucson to visit Ares East Mesa BJJ because I heard so many good things about this school...they were all true, and even so much more, and I had so much fun with these amazing people. It had the coolest Island vibe, great energy from every one and everyone, and a great variety of white to black belts available. In between rolls they helped me with things I was struggling with, and also brand new things I had never gotten the chance to learn...I was basically pumped full of so much info, that the 1.5 hour drive back was me processing it all, and so excited to go back and use all of it on my training partners! 🤣🤣 All in all, the space is really cool with a great lobby where everyone hangs out after open mat. The jokes in there were almost better than the jiu-jitsu...like full comedy club I felt I would totally buy tickets for! Lol if you have a chance to visit, do it! I'll definitely be visiting again soon for one of they're Sunday Competition team trainings! 🔥

I NEVER write online reviews but felt compelled to do so for the team at Ares East Mesa BJJ Academy. Having limited experience in BJJ, i know it can be intimidating venturing into this sport. The team of coaches and students at AEM BJJ is welcoming, patient, and takes great care to make sure your intro to the sport is a safe, fun and positive one. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a physically and mentally challenging art, but the Warrior Introductory Program does everything to set you up for success with meal and study plans, detailed body assessment, and a personalized plan to help you progress toward specific goals. The students go out of their way to help their classmates and Ares East Mesa BJJ Academy has taken time to create a positive experience for noobs and a place that feels far more like a family than a gym. I highly recommend Ares East Mesa BJJ to anyone if you are looking for a fun and challenging alternative to the stale "globo gym" experience.

I would recommend this academy to anyone who wants to learn jiu jitsu from the very best coaches and who is looking for a community of amazing teammates and families!

Bait and switch business model to get people in the door. Do not believe their ads of "free" classes

Offered a free 5 week thing for like a dozen people. I assumed to get like before and after for advertisements or something. Wasted 30 minutes of my time and a 30 minute drive, didn’t even get to try out the class. Just did like a interview. Was told to come back another time to try out, even though the class literally just started. And I’m in my workout clothes, expecting to at least try out the class and get a work out in. On top of that they said I had to put $500 down even though they’re advising “free” 5 weeks thing with nothing about that said before hand. Building set up was displeasing and the classes they offer was pretty mediocre too. And they’re charging way more than other places I’ve been too, where they’re offering judo, muy Thai, and yoga . Just annoyed they wasted my time.
