I had a great experience at my first jiu-jitsu class! All of the instructors are very welcoming and knowledgeable. There is also great feedback and support during class. The other students are also extremely helpful. Overall, I had an excellent first class and plan to go back!

My private lesson today with Professor Mendes was the first time that I’ve ever studied BJJ, and I got a very thorough grounding in the fundamentals. The Professor kindly took account of both my pre-existing injuries, and my judo background. The lesson was enjoyable, and the ideally paced. I thoroughly recommend learning with Professor Mendes, and I have already booked my next lesson with him.
Started from my son then joined jiu-jitsu too! What a journey! Very professional team and very friendly guys! Well equpped bright gym with large mats and showers. Schedule for everyone at any time of the day. Strongly recommend.

Congratulations to Professor Lucas and his students. I'm from Brazil and I spent some time in Boston, I chose Gracie to train during that period and it was excellent. I recently moved here from California and was looking for a gym to continue my training. I trained at 10planet back there, but was aware of The Gracie legacy and knew I would get a good experience. I went to the trial class which was GI, they were friendly but also didn’t go easy on me even though I never did GI. This was a good thing because you really get your workout. I actually went to hard and threw up haha. However, they were very professional about it. Would recommend and will be coming back if my schedule allows

In town for work and last minute drop in based on proximity of the gym to my hotel. Website was easy to navigate and find the schedule of classes. Gym personnel…front desk, instructors, students…were super welcoming and accommodating. Large mat space and clean locker room/changing area made for a great class. Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in town!!

I started training here at the age of 43 in the Fall of 2021. I was a little scared to start BJJ at such an old age. But I cannot think of a better place to undertake this wonderful journey . This gym is incredible: from the instructors, to the students, to the physical location itself. All the professors (Professor Alex, Professor Pato, Professor Lucas, Professor Rafael) are so knowledgeable and encouraging. The instruction is not only for the body, but also for the mind and soul. I am 13 and started when I was 12 I have been going here for about 1.5 years I started off at the kids class for the first 7 or 8 months then transitioned to the adult class and I have been there for around 6 to 8 I only have positive things to say about Gracie Barra. I’ve been training here for almost a year and this place is absolutely incredible. The gym is held together by a team of great instructors who teach effectively and cultivate a kind and collaborative atmosphere. This was my first time doing an organized sport/physical activity, and I was a little nervous that it would be an unfriendly environment, but right from the beginning I learned that the opposite was true. There’s a diverse group of students with different levels of commitment and intensity, so no matter if you’re looking to be a casual hobbyist who goes once or twice a week or an aspiring competitor who wants to train every day, you’ll fit right in. My son will be almost 4 years old. We started this school about a month ago. A black belt head coach gives training. This is super one. I join in and it turns into a great sport that I do with my son. BJJ is a great sports branch where children can learn discipline, motor skills and decision making under pressure. I highly recommend the school and the coaches.

A great place to train! We were visiting from West Palm Beach and brought my son’s gear (he trains at Gracie Barra Jupiter) in hopes to get a training session in. We were welcomed by a great group of guys and immediately felt like family. Although it was an adult class, they worked in my 10 yr old son. He loved the class and can’t wait to go back! Thanks to Professor and all the students for making this experience a great one!
Great place! Did a private, 7 person group lesson for my brother and his friends, and we all had an excellent time. Staff was exceptionally accommodating of our time-constraints, and even gave us some extra time since some of our party arrived late! The team was incredibly knowledgeable and my brother, who was the only person with Jiu Jitsu experience prior, enjoyed learning a few new styles/techniques! Would recommend to anyone, beginner or otherwise.

The Best "All Around" BJJ Gym Hands down the best BJJ gym I've been to. I've been to plenty of gyms all around the country for BJJ and Gracie Barra Boston is where I made the most progress. Regardless of skill level this place is perfect for you. Every professor is dedicated to making you not only the best BJJ practitioner, but the best person you can be by giving you the tools to excel in all areas of life.
My home gym is Gracie Barra Santa Ana. I was on vacation with my son visiting family and was in serious need of a good training day. The closest gym was Gracie Barra Boston. I emailed them to ask if me and my son could borrow a gi and train as a visitor. We got a quick response and a warm welcome to come and train that day. We met Professor Eduardo and the team when we got there and had an incredible training session. It just shows how no matter which GB in the world you visit you are always home. I recommend Gracie Barra Boston to anyone looking for the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in the area. Can’t wait to train again the next time we are in the area.

I'd tried training at two other gyms around Boston, and neither compared to when I first walked into Gracie Barra to try their Fundamentals class. The GB Boston family is incredibly welcoming. The gym is organized and clean, and the classes are structured with a balance of learning and doing (but not overly rigid, and with time to roll and practice at the end). The coaches/professors are patient, and mindful of ensuring newcomers are well-situated. It's also convenient to get to by T - literally across the street from a stop on the Green Line. It's a very different vibe from the other gyms I've tried, and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who's considering trying out Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the first time!

Started training here 5 years ago and have never looked back. Great school with great instruction, everyone was very welcoming when I first started and that kept me coming back. The school is great for all ages and sizes as there is a wide variety of people who attend each class. Alex is a great instructor and having trained at other schools whilst traveling I can say that he is 100% the most friendly and easy to approach. It is a great work out for both the body and mind and I would recommend this school to anybody.
Gracie Barra Back Bay is more than just a jiu-jitsu gym. I started training 4 years ago under the world class instruction of Prof. Alex Costa. Prof. Alex is more than just a regular professor, he is a mentor that helped me through hard times both on and off the mats. His technique is on point and he is able to explain the smallest details to students of all levels. He is considerate, friendly and extremely charismatic. I have trained at other gyms before, but I can say that this is definitely the most friendly environment I have been in. You will consider this a second home and family. The hardest part of any healthy endeavor is starting. The second hardest part is finding a reason to stay. I have been training consistently at Gracie Barra Back Bay for about 3 years. I recommend this martial arts school to anyone but particularly to beginners and those looking for a fun, unique way to get into exceptionally good shape. This is certainly a good place for people of any age (I am 36) and body type. I've seen students at Gracie lose significant amounts of weight. I've seen students here develop discipline and self defense skills. I've seen students here become more confident and make friends. I don't often write reviews but Gracie Barra is an exception. This martial arts facility has helped me get into phenomenal shape both physically and psychologically. My body fat percentage is steady at around 10% and I have begun competing around the country. I did not think either of these things were possible or maintainable at my age and with my busy schedule. Yet, probably most importantly, I have to acknowledge that I have made several life long friends. Before I started training at Gracie Barra Back Bay, I had been training for about 3 years off and on at other schools. The reason I dedicated myself here is the sense of community. The head instructor, Alex Costa, has cultivated a friendly, professional atmosphere where anyone will feel at home. Breathing techniques are emphasized in addition to safety and proper technique to ensure everyone is learning and growing. Professor Alex is warm and compassionate toward all his students. There are a variety of classes that range from helping beginners learn the most fundamental movements to advanced classes. Also, Professor Alex has something like 5 World Champion and Pan Am IBJJF gold medals in black belt divisions. Whether you are looking for a fun way to learn a martial art, make friends and stay in shape or if you are looking to compete on a world level, Gracie Barra Back Bay is the absolute best place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Best BJJ gym I've ever trained at. Prof. Alex is one of the nicest and most helpful instructors I've ever had the pleasure of training with. You can expect to be welcomed into a supportive and nurturing family when joining GB3. Plenty of mat space, and tons of gym equipment as well. Facilities are always clean, there is plenty of locker room space. GB3 also has a very flexible schedule for both gi and no-gi practitioners. Overall a great place to train!
Where to start? First, the vitally important stuff. From the mats to the bathrooms...Gracie Barra Back Bay is always immaculately clean, well lit and welcoming. Alex and Ashley are always friendly, professional and incredibly knowledgeable. The level of Jiu Jitsu being taught is incredible. At any given session there's a solid mix of experienced, competitive practitioners and those of us who are just starting our journey. I'm challenged and learn something new every time...But always with mutual respect and collaboration...Never with ego or disrespect. I came to Jiu Jitsu to learn a new skill and improve my physical fitness after my doctor told me to exercise or start suffering real consequences soon. Predictably, with a little bit of effort my fitness is improving. What I could never have predicted is that I would gain a new extended family of people around me. This is definitely a testimony to the environment Alex and Ashley create at Gracie Barra Back Bay every day. Thanks guys!!
From Professor Alex and Owner Ashley on down to people who only joined a couple months ago, everybody at this gym is friendly and helpful. The gym itself is generally clean and Ashley responds quickly to any concerns (for example, fixing a door that won't stay shut). I have grown as a practitioner more quickly than at any other school. Alex is amazing- always supportive, always ready to push you toward your individual goals. There are classes early in the morning, midday, and evening, and the school is right by T and bus stops, so it's easy to get there regardless of your schedule.
