I started training at my cousins gym (non-GracieBarra) about a year ago (wanted to support the family) but still wanted to give my praise to Gracie Barra Albuquerque where I used to train for 1-2 years and still drop-in for the occasional class / open mat. I started jiu jitsu in NJ before moving to Albuquerque. For the first year or two in Abq, I tried multiple different gyms and never quite found the right spot. Either they were low energy, too competition heavy and pressured you to compete, or the environment was toxic. I love BJJ but I’m a hobbyist in my late 30s, 2 kids, and am a full-time doctor who occasionally competes locally for fun. I just wanted a place with great instruction, good competitive training partners, and a welcoming laid-back environment - similar to my old school in NJ. After a forced break from BJJ (covid, injuries), I almost gave up on going back to training because I felt like I wasn’t really going to find a gym that was worth the time. Somewhere where I could feel like I could enjoy myself and actually decompress away from the stress of work, family responsibilities, and personal stuff. A friend of mind recommended I give GB a try and I ended up giving it a shot at Gracie Barra Albuquerque and immediately knew I found somewhere that hit all my checkboxes. Professor Russell, Professor Geoffrey, and Enrique are an amazing team. Super friendly, incredible instruction, and they just overall create a very welcoming while still very competitive environment where you’re free to start or continue your jiu jitsu journey in whatever way you want - whether that’s you're into tournaments or just want to be more of a casual hobbyist and learn something new. Highly recommend it to everyone whether you are new to jiu jitsu (girl, guy, or kid) and maybe hesitant or intimidated to start, or if you’ve been training and looking for somewhere new. I owe them for helping me get back to a place where I enjoy my training again!

Easily one of the greatest dojos ever. Prof Russ is one of the kindest and wisest martial arts teachers I have ever come across. Coach Geoff is amazing at breaking down the steps and giving personal attention to everyone he trains. Enrique makes it feels like “Cheers” every time we walk in. As that full team with all the other coaches, like Ben, I can get INCREDIBLE instruction, hard rolls without injuries, and great friends. Not only do I roll, but all of my family roll and laugh here. Need that thing in your life to pick you up, loss weight and make you strong… it isn’t just the BJJ, it’s the people.

I did a drop in a couple of weeks ago from a non-Gracie Barra school in another state. The professor and students all took care of me. As a 150 lb, 35+ year old white belt having larger more experienced training partners that don't look to destroy you is important. The training was top notch and I felt very safe with everyone that I trained with. I will definitely return whenever I am in the area and wouldn't hesitate to train here if I were a local resident.

The Best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in New Mexico! They have an awesome kids program with Certified Instructors. They are CPR qualified and background checks are done on the instructors. Once I started the program I loved it so much that I enrolled both of my kids into it. They have both learned a lot - not just about self defense, but about accountability, discipline, and respect. They have an anti-bullying program and do fun activities for the kids. The school is always kept very clean and organized, and they offer you a free intro class for you to try before you buy. I highly recommend this school to anybody - men, women, and children - that wants to do a little something more.

This sport and gym has provided us with more than what we came for. Professor Fabio and coach Amadeu make this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym feel like home. Their program director, Logan, is always prompt and willing to help. My wife and I began our jiu-jitsu journey at Gracie Barra on Academy and have enjoyed not only the cleanliness of the facility, but most importantly the respect that each person has for one another. Highly recommended! We hope to see you on the mats!

My have my 3 year old son here and he loves it! All of the kids are super nice to each other and help my son learn the ropes. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to put their 3 year - 4 year old in an activity.

A great experience for me and my 8-year-old daughter. Professor Dave Binder is professional, approachable, patient and an absolute savage. That combination makes for a learning environment that is welcoming and fun. Melissa runs the show with professionalism and poise. I've been doing martial arts for years and at multiple gyms and this Gracie Barra is as good as it gets.

the cleanest, most professional gym that i have been to in Albuquerque. Could not tell you of a better gym to start your bjj journey at than this one. Dave is a knowledgeable, patient instructor, that I would recommend to anybody. And the staff and other students are friendly and welcoming.

I didn't know what jiu-jitsu was when I walked in but seemed busy and very nice inside. I was instantly greeted by Dave the professor and a very friendly gal named Melissa. She helped me get a gi and sign me up for an intro class. All the students and staff were great. As a woman walking into a martial arts school it can be nerve racking but this was so easy and warm. I can't wait for my next class and thank you again for the help Melissa! J.C

Absolutely love this school. I've been training here for over 3 months now and I am totally hooked. The instructors are top notch, fellow students are great folks to train with, and Melissa does a great job keeping everything runnin smooth and taking care of any issues. The schools is clan and high end. Melissa runs the school great and everything flows well and looks great. Add the skills and help of professor Dave and if its your first class or 100th you leave with new skills. Not only a great martial art in a respectful environment but a great work out as well. The Gracie-Barra Academy is easily and by far the best martial arts school I have ever attended. I have been practicing martial arts for over 25 years and I can state without reservation that the Gracie-Barra Academy provides the best martial arts training and instruction available anywhere. I feel like I have found my permanent martial arts home in Gracie-Barra. Professor Binder is a first-rate black belt instructor, a consummate professional, and a respected leader. I have been extremely impressed with the quality his instruction. The team atmosphere promotes a strong sense of pride in the school where anybody is welcome to join. The atmosphere is also conducive to promoting camaraderie among the students. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and the facility itself is in impeccable condition. Students at the Gracie-Barrra Academy learn not only great self-defense, but have fun doing so and get a great workout as well! I feel like l am in the best shape of my life.

Outstanding training with Professor David Binder for both children and adults. His patience and depth of knowledge is fantastic and he encourages people to build an excellent foundation and work hard, whether you want to compete or not. Great workout, building/growning your jiu jitsu skills and practical application of technique are standard fare. For the children's class, he is patient, friendly and an excellent example of a leader. The children look up to and respect him and have a great time while learning excellent skills. Highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to train Brazilian jiu jitsu in the Gracie Barra style!

I have trained at a few different Jiu Jitsu gyms now. Gracie Barra by far has the best structure for both beginners and experienced grapplers. The facility is extremely clean and world class. Professor Dave is an amazing teacher, extremely friendly and helpful. He fosters a strong team atmosphere that focuses on technique as they smash you while teaching you until you are the one doing the smashing. Choose your GB gym in ABQ, and receive world class instruction from any of their professors. In addition their kids program is also awesome and my son has even said that he felt like he was playing the whole time as oppose to previously grinding through class.
