Was in town for work and was lucky to be staying close to Gomez BJJ. Everyone was super welcoming. Coach Julie’s was friendly and her instruction was great. Happy to have found this place to train.

Great school with amazing people. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to practice jiu jitsu at any level! I had an amazing time with A lot of knowledge and practice. Mr. Carlos is a skillful and experienced teacher. People with whom I trained were amazing! Respect!

Professor Carlos and Coach Julie are great instructors! I decided to try Gomez Jiu-Jitsu as a 38th birthday present to myself to see if I could get into shape, learn self defense, and try to challenge myself to be a more confident person. It’s been an amazing 3 months! I’m still learning and slowly gaining confidence, but I’m happy to be with such a great academy and good group of folks! The vibe is very welcoming, the academy has a nice DTLA minimalist look, the mats are very clean, and there are folks of all ages, sizes, including women and kids too. Professor Carlos is friendly and an engaging instructor, and teaches in a very technical and precise way. He likes to emphasize the self defense aspect of Jiu-jitsu (which is awesome) and comes from a great Jiu-Jitsu lineage. Coach Julie is a constant force, patient and a very clear instructor. What a great team! If you are feeling nervous to try it out, just come to the beginner fundamentals class on Thursday nights! I think you’ll realize that most students are just regular every day people trying to learn step by step. Big Thank you to Professor Carlos, Coach Julie, and all the folks at Gomez Jiu-Jitsu Academy!

My love for Jiu-Jitsu started in New York and I've been training for 5+ years. I trained at many schools before arriving at GJJ. I love professor Gomez's mindset about Jiu-Jitsu and the way he applies the self defense aspect in all of his classes, it Is extremely important especially during these volatile times because you never know what is going to happen these days. He teaches you how to be aware of your surroundings at all times. The gym is very clean especially with the foot baths & temperature checks they do everyday. Everyone here at the gym is super friendly which makes for the ideal learning environment. He teaches a lot of different techniques all the way from beginner to advanced and he also walks around to make sure you understand everything 100%. I love his sense of humor which makes training here even more fun. His wife Julie also teaches with him and she is extremely skillful with her approach to BJJ. Professor Gomez has molded her into a purple belt which is highly respectable and her journey to black continues. I believe all women and men should learn how to protect themselves and Professor Gomez and Julie will teach you just how to do that. They will instill confidence in you that you thought you would never have. I highly recommend Gomez Jiu-Jitsu for anyone looking to start their Brazilian jiu-jitsu journey or continue their journey like myself.

Love Tribe Weddings

Such a special little dojo. Carlos is a very technical instructor with so much detail. Great students with great attitudes. No egos. Rolls are safe but still tough. I highly recommend checking this place out.
