We are part of this bjj academy now for almost 3 years now. And it is a very welcoming and super friendly environment. No egos and every coach is eager to teach. My son started before me then I started and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. I highly recommend Genesis in Azle.

I cannot recommend Genesis JiuJitsu in Azle enough. We started out with our 4 year old joining first and slowly that morphed into me joining as well. Coach Karen and the others are amazing at teaching beginners and getting everyone to learn no matter the age. Jiujitsu has been so great for our son and been great at working on self control as well as building confidence in jiujitsu and no wrestling. As stated, I couldn’t recommend them enough.

We love training here! Successful, enthusiastic, and accomplished coaches. Two talented and highly decorated female black belts with fantastic competition pedigrees. Two more accomplished male black belts. Many advanced level coaches as well, plenty of adult training partners, and a small army of Genesis kids! Very reasonable pricing, no contracts, tons of class times, and great people. All levels, from beginners to black belts, train here. The environment is very welcoming. Competition is encouraged but not required, and there are many very successful competitors here in different age ranges, weight classes, and belt levels. Focusing on the kid's side for this review: Started about 3 years ago with my 4 year old daughter. We came for a trial class and enjoyed it, so decided to keep training. Another big factor was the female ownership and strong female membership. I wanted my daughter to have those examples to look up to. We have never done any martial arts or wrestling before, so I wasn't sure how either of us would fair. My daughter loves her coaches and they really do a great job of keeping things fun yet disciplined and engaging. They all genuinely care about their students. They make sure everyone is safe and working together in a controlled way. Coach Jen and Coach Kat started her off with Wee Warriors and the basic skills. She has been able to move up and promote into the more advanced classes with Coach Kari and Coach Eli. She also loves helping with the younger kids whenever she can with Coach (and owner) Karen, Coach Eli, or Coach Jen. It's nice that all of the coaches generally work together and help eachother, and there are many other coaches that I am sure I am neglecting to mention who have contributed to my daughter's progress. The lessons are consistent no matter who is leading the class, and generally build on the previous lessons or review skills already taught. Plenty of private and small group lessons available as well for extra training if desired. The more my daughter participates and engages with her coaches, friends, training partners, and other competitors, the more she enjoys being at Genesis Jiu Jitsu. She genuinely looks forward to it and misses it when she can't go. Come on in and join the Genesis family!

My daughter has been training at Genesis for the last year. It is amazing how far she has come. She has gained confidence and is even doing better in school. All the coaches are incredible and are very welcoming. When you train here you become part of the Genesis family and not just another gym.

Their dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment is unmatched. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, young or old, their expertise and passion for teaching make this the perfect place to train and grow. I highly recommend this academy to anyone, regardless of age, gender, or skill level. It’s an outstanding community that fosters growth, confidence, and skill development. Genesis has had such a positive impact on each of my daughters. The coaches were all so patient with them when they first started and kept them safe as they learned more about the sport. They do a great job of making it fun and challenging their class. Both of my daughters are more confident and willing to stand up for themselves and speak their mind. It has also encouraged them to take better care of their health. My husband and I also train which means that we spend a lot of time at the gym. It is like our second home and we love being here. I never would have thought that I would love jiu jitsu, but the positive environment and encouragement make it a wonderful place to challenge yourself. I highly recommend it!!!

Everyone at this gym is incredibly kind and welcoming. Genesis Jiu Jitsu has a solid female clientele and it feels amazing to roll and learn from other women. I have truly enjoyed rolling here aside from the friendships that follow. Thank you so much for your welcoming, kind, and professional atmosphere! 💗💗🫶🏻

Whether you're a beginner, hobbyist, or a serious competitor, this gym caters to all levels of Jiu Jitsu. The children’s and teen programs are exceptional, emphasizing character, skill development, and athleticism. My three teens and I train here, and it’s truly the highlight of our week. My girls have been taking the kids class called Wee Warriors (age 5 and under). They look forward to it every week! The instructors are great with all ages, behaviors, and learning styles. The women's only open mat on Wednesdays is also a lot of fun and is beginner friendly.

I have visited Genesis Jiu Jitsu Azle on multiple occasions over the years for the Ladies open mat. There is a broad range of experience on the mats, from beginners to black belts. I was always made to feel welcome and I really appreciated the technicality of my training partners there. Karen Banes is amazing, one of a few female black belts in DFW who own and run a successful Jiu Jitsu school. Her students are successful on and off the mats. I highly recommend Genesis Azle when you are in the area.

The last 2 1/2 years we’ve been in shock and awe over you and Genesis gym. You have a unique gift of not only the art of Jiu Jitsu but how to teach others in their own unique ways. We had reservations about taking Sean and Callie to train somewhere, and our desire to be part of a studio that was family friendly! You encouraged us to visit the studio and only do as much as we were comfortable with. Whether that was observing, participating or doing the 7 day trial. We brought Sean for the 7 day trial, 2 1/2 years ago, and we were immediately impressed with the family friendly atmosphere at Genisis. You quickly introduced yourself and were friendly, encouraging and passionate about BJJ. The students and coaches went out of their way to talk to the kids and make them feel welcome. One of the criteria we judged a school on was making sure it was a safe environment for them. After a month of training under you and your talented team of coaches, and after observing the kids program, We knew Genesis was going to be a place we could settle in as a family, and train together for years to come. You often hear other gym’s talk about 'no egos' and 'family friendly' but this was the first studio we seen that had those qualities day to day. The kids after 2 1/2 years still look forward to each class! Each of them have goals they've set for themselves. They’ve been pushed and encouraged to work toward those goals and seeing them reach them is priceless as a parent. Jiu Jitsu isn't something we have to drag them to or something they dread attending... instead, its something they delight in. They beg us to go to class, sign up for every tournament we can afford to send them to, and even practice at home with each other for hours a week! They've made friends with other students, made significant gains athletically and technically, and most of all...they've had fun doing it. You have been fundamental in their journey beyond their first day as a white belt when they walked into Genisis. You’ve been patient, thought provoking, and have been willing to walk down different paths on their journey to help each of your students as they each seek to find their own way. Watching your competitions, you see that the Jiu Jitsu you teach is extremely effective and your quite skilled at imparting your knowledge to the students. Your unique way of teaching children is unparalelled and rivaled in the Jiu Jitsu community! Their is none better! Your not dogmatic about the way your students learn and encourage everyone to take hold of Jiu Jitsu and make it their own. Its also encouraging to see that you are still a student of the game and bring passion and excitement to the mats. You lead by example. Your ability to teach people of all ages and backgrounds is very impressive. Especially with children, your background of being an educator in the local area, and specializing in early childhood development, makes you shine, in the way your able to coach children. We can never say thanks enough for all you do for your kids! You Rock!

Karen Kovach is hands down the most highly trained, professional Jiu Jitsu instructor in the DFW metroplex. Her knowledge and experience are only matched by per personal demeanor. A sweet, caring person that is the best at training adults or kids. Decades of experience in teaching and caring for people. I could not recommend a better person for you or your kids to be trained by.

The martial arts classes here are phenomenal! The summer camps are great. There are always tournaments to go to and the coaches always attend. They help the kids develop self-defense and they help the kiddo's develop good character. In the 2 years that my son has been attending, he has become a very disciplined young man. The classes have definitely helped him become a more respectful individual and they have taught him how to have the drive to achieve his goals. I have a lot of respect for Coach Karen.

My boyfriend and I have had a wonderful time with this school. There is a wonderful learning atmosphere and the other students are great to work with. Our main coach Karen really tries to help her students absorb the basics of jiu-jitsu and enable them to use their new skills in a variety of situations. We regularly have black belts stop in to teach new techniques and I love traveling to other schools to roll with new opponents. If this is something you are interested in, I highly recommend this School :)
