My fiancé looked into class here for himself. We ended up signing up our six year old daughter with him. After almost two months of attending class with them (sitting in the car). I felt welcomed. Whether it was stopping in at drop off, saying hello to the coaches, buying merch, joining the Facebook group, I was always welcomed! I went as far as stepping out of my comfort zone to try the striking class. Mike and Maria are welcoming and they don’t make you feel like you don’t know anything (even when you don’t). Class is enjoyable for adults and children. There is truly a spot here at this gym for everyone. Experience or not!
Posted 5 months agoThis gym is different in a really good way. The coaching uses an ecological approach, so you’re learning how to actually problem-solve during live jiu-jitsu instead of just memorizing moves. Because of that, even the beginners here are tough and roll with real pressure. I came in with a long powerlifting background, so I was (and still am) pretty stiff by nature, but training here has definitely helped my mobility without taking away from my strength or pressure style. Great culture, hard training, no egos. Mike and Maria genuinely care about your progress whether you’re competing or just trying to get better but most importantly they make their members feel welcome, and make you feel like you're part of their jiu jitsu family. Highly, highly, highly recommend!!!
Posted 6 months agoIt was a tough time as a guest, which really shows the level of jiu-jitsu, but everyone was just as kind and welcoming. Much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing you all again.
Posted 7 months agoFive Points is the real deal. I come from a background in MMA and wrestling, so I don’t say this lightly — this is one of the best environments I’ve trained in. The instruction is legit, the training is tough, and the culture is exactly what it should be: hard work, respect, and constant improvement. Whether your goal is to compete, sharpen your skills, or just become a better version of yourself, Five Points meets you where you’re at and pushes you forward. The room is full of killers, but it’s also welcoming. Everyone wants to see each other get better. This place builds confidence, discipline, and real ability — not just techniques, but mindset. If you’re serious about jiu jitsu or martial arts in general, Five Points is an outstanding place to train. Highly recommended.
Posted 7 months agoI was in the area for a roofing seminar called a few gyms to see if they welcome drop ins , this is one of the only gyms that said yes without hesitation. The training was good rough rounds. You can tell the owner is definitely in it for the jujitsu and not the money, they didn’t treat me like a drop in they treated me like I was a head student. The head instructor if stayed a half an hour after class, to go over little details with me. You can tell that he loves jujitsu and loves what he does. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Illinois!
Posted 9 months agoOnly did 5 stars because I couldn’t do more. I came to this gym with no experience at all and felt welcomed from the beginning. From the coaches , to the members who were there training everybody just wants to help you improve and have fun while doing it. This place has a nice family like environment and I would recommend it to anybody wether you have no experience or you’re a black belt there is a place for you here.
Our kids have trained there for a couple years now. Cannot say enough good things about the kids program. Maria is a great teacher and the perfect balance of tough and fun for the kids. They’re going to put in work, learn real jiu jitsu, and have fun in the process.
Absolutely love it here, always make sure to stop by when in town. Great instruction, great partners, great rolls. Wrestlers- I HIGHLY recommend training here. Five Points does an excellent job of transitioning wrestling into a dominant Jiu Jitsu game.
Excellent place to train for all levels. I’ve been at a ton of gyms, and the energy at five points is right. Everyone works hard, and are dedicated to the martial art. If you want to learn and advance quickly this is the place.
After I moved to the Huntley/Lake in the hills area from Chicago I started to research Bjj gyms. I chose to give five points a try due to their no gi only approach. Felt welcome from the start ( the coaching staff but the students as well). From what I’ve seen the kids program is doing very well. New members are treated well and I never see injuries which was my main concern getting into grappling. The new class schedule really opened up my ability to attend classes, and I greatly appreciate the coaching staff paying attention to my progress. They speak to me on the side and give me tips on what to improve weekly. I’ve been recommending this gym to my coworkers and friends.
Awesome group, good rolls, great approach to training
Great group of people. The instructors work directly with you to make sure you learn the techniques being worked on.
Mike and Maria have the best Jiu Jitsu system ever!
Excellent place to train for all levels. I’ve been at a ton of gyms, and the energy at five points is right. Everyone works hard, and are dedicated to the martial art.
The instructors at five points are TOP NOTCH. Mike and Maria are thorough and meticulous instructors that explain the reason to everything they teach and why it works, especially in competition. They will elevate your game to the next level with their instruction and training partners always available. You need some help with wrestling and your stand up? No problem, five points has you covered with many people who are stud wrestlers and jiu jutsu students. Highly recommend to anyone regardless of level. Be ready to get beat down, but in a good way that will leave you wanting to come back for more.
We came in from Las Vegas and my son did the kids class with Maria. They really have a great dynamic here. Mike explained to me how they really focus on finishing, and not pulling guard. We really like that! They do lots of live rolls which is extremely important for tournament jiu jitsu, that were currently involved in. We will definitely be back to roll with these Beasts. Thanks 5 ponit, you're on point!
Great place. Atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Great job with instuction.
Best gym around to train at for Jiu Jitsu ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An incredible gym with amazing instructors!
Five Points Jiu Jitsu is one of the few No-Gi only Jiu Jitsu gyms in the Midwest. It’s environment and atmosphere are incredibly friendly, welcoming, fun and safe. The instructors Mike, Tim and Maria have a wealth of knowledge as Jiu Jitsu practitioners. Their backgrounds come from strong lineages such as the 10th Planet system, Renzo Gracie, Pedro Sauer, and more. They’ve cumulated all they know and created what is Five Points Jiu Jitsu. Their instruction style is relaxed and easily comprehensible; although the moves may not always be easy, the instruction is easily understood. All the members of the gym are extremely friendly and helpful as well as patient with new members. It’s a great place to call home if you’re looking for a new Jiu Jitsu gym. It’s also a great place to come if you want to learn and grow. If you’re looking to get into competitions this place is for you. They will never push you to compete, but if and when that time comes believe me they’ll have you more than ready. You instantly feel like part of the team once you start! They’ve got programs for kids, beginners, and advanced grapplers. Several days in the week those previously mentioned levels can be mixed, but there are no egos everyone is there to help each other learn and grow safely. You very well may get tapped out, but that’s part of the process. Just don’t take it personal, move forward and take it as a valuable lesson. All in all it’s a amazing gym with an amazing group of members and instructors!!
A great growing community of people! Mike and Maria are great instructors, they obsess over the constantly evolving art of jiu jitsu and everything taught in class works wether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner.
Mike and Maria are the best! Quality instruction and very nice people. Great group of people here to train.
Very knowledgeable instructor and a great place to learn. If you're interested in learning a practical martial art, I highly recommend Five Points!
