Starting my 3-year-old son, Ghaith, at Escolta Martial Arts has been one of the best choices we’ve made as parents . He used to be very shy around people, always staying quiet and holding onto us. But after a few classes, we began to see such a beautiful change. He opened up, smiled more, and started trying new things with real confidence. Grand Master Greg and all instructors are incredibly patient, caring, and truly know how to bring out the best in each child. They don’t just teach martial arts; they teach respect, focus, and character in a way kids genuinely respond to. The difference in Ghaith’s confidence and bravery has been amazing, and we’re so grateful for the positive impact this place has had on him. Highly recommend.
Posted 10 months agoCoach Roberts at Escolta Martial Arts in Redwood City is an incredible instructor and mentor. His journey started at just 5 years old, and although it wasn’t easy in the beginning, he built his foundation through discipline and perseverance. Over the years, he has trained in a wide variety of martial arts—including Chinese martial arts, Kenpo Karate, Polynesian styles, Limalama, Tai Chi Chuan (Sun style), Muay Thai, Judo, Aiki-Jujutsu, San Shou, Mongolian wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. With more than 19 years of experience focused on mixed martial arts, his knowledge and skill are unmatched. What makes Coach Roberts truly stand out is not just his technical expertise, but his philosophy on life and training. He believes in “less is more” and teaches that true discipline isn’t about what you say you’ll do—it’s about showing up and putting in the work. This mindset carries through in every class, where he inspires students to build strength, focus, and confidence not only in martial arts but in everyday life. As a teacher, Coach Roberts is patient, motivating, and deeply committed to his students’ success. He has taught countless students over the years, many of whom have gone on to compete and achieve great things. Beyond medals and recognition, though, his real impact is seen in the way kids and adults grow in discipline, respect, and self-belief under his guidance. Escolta Martial Arts is more than just a place to train—it’s a welcoming community where people of all ages can challenge themselves, learn valuable life skills, and feel supported every step of the way. Redwood City is lucky to have such a dedicated coach shaping the next generation of martial artists. If you’re considering martial arts for yourself or your child, I highly recommend Coach Roberts and Escolta Martial Arts. Posted 1 year agoEscolta Martial Arts in Redwood City is truly something special, and that is because of the incredible leadership of Coach Greg Escolta. My 5-year-old son absolutely adores him—he’s his favorite coach—and I can see why. The passion, experience, and care he brings into every class is unmatched. Coach Greg’s martial arts journey began at just 5 years old, sparked by a personal experience that made him want to learn self-defense and push himself toward martial excellence. His influences—his father and the legendary Bruce Lee—shaped the foundation of a lifelong dedication. Over the years, he became a California State and National Champion, Washington State Champion, and even an International Champion. He holds Black Belts in both Kenpo Karate and Taekwondo and has trained under the Great Grand Master Professor Ralph Castro, a close friend of Bruce Lee himself. With 45 years of teaching experience and having trained hundreds (if not thousands) of students, Coach Greg has built a legacy that speaks for itself. Many of his students have gone on to win gold medals and championships, but what’s more impressive is the way he changes lives. One of the most inspiring stories he shared was of a student on the autism spectrum, small for his age, who fought his way to victories at the California State, Regional, and National Championships—all while excelling academically with straight A’s. That’s the kind of growth and confidence his teaching fosters. What makes Coach Greg stand out is his philosophy: martial arts is not just about fighting, but about becoming the best version of yourself. His mission is to instill discipline, respect, resilience, and humility in every student. He teaches with purpose—every lesson and technique has real-world application, whether in competition or self-defense. He pushes students through uncomfortable situations, giving them the tools to stay calm, fight through challenges, and come out stronger. Beyond the medals and belts, Coach Greg has built a true family and community at Escolta Martial Arts. Kids learn honor, respect, integrity, and kindness alongside powerful martial skills. Adults gain confidence, focus, and fitness while being part of a supportive environment that feels like home. Looking to the future, Coach Greg’s goal is clear: for every student to become a better version of themselves. His comprehensive approach ensures students are well-rounded—trained in both striking (Taekwondo, Karate, Kickboxing) and ground fighting (Jiujitsu, wrestling). His philosophy has been proven through his own family—his son Geremy Escolta is an undefeated Professional MMA fighter, showing that their system can be tested at the highest level and stand strong. If you’re considering martial arts for yourself or your child, I cannot recommend Escolta Martial Arts enough. Coach Greg Escolta is not only one of the most experienced martial artists around, but also a mentor who truly cares about his students’ growth both inside and outside the dojo. My son looks forward to every class, and I feel proud knowing he’s learning from the best.

Posted 1 year agoA Truly Transformational Experience for Our Son Enrolling our son at Escolta Martial Arts has been one of the best decisions we’ve made as parents. From the very first class, it was clear that this is not just a martial arts school. It’s a place where character is built, confidence is nurtured, and respect is at the core of everything. Over the past years, we’ve seen our son grow in ways we never imagined. His self-confidence has soared not just in the dojo, but in school and everyday life. The structure and discipline taught here have helped him stay focused and motivated, and he’s developed a real sense of responsibility for his actions. But what truly sets Escolta apart is their emphasis on moral character. Respect isn’t just talked about; it’s practiced toward instructors, peers, and oneself. The values of perseverance, humility, and integrity are woven into every lesson. This isn’t just about kicks and punches. It’s about shaping future leaders. We’re beyond grateful to the institutions Grand Master Greg Escolta for his dedication and passion.
