This martial arts school provides an excellent balance of discipline, fitness, and self-defense training. The instructors are highly skilled and genuinely care about each student’s progress. Classes are well-structured, and the atmosphere is positive and encouraging. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, this is a fantastic place to train and grow.
Posted 9 months agoVisited the area for a few weeks and this will be my go to BJJ gym anytime I’m in the area for the whole family. Great instructors for both adults and kids. Definitely a good culture and a very welcoming environment.
Posted 1 year agoWhile visiting family in Canton, I dropped into Sunday open mat. Everyone here was very welcoming. The facility was large, clean, and each roll was solid. I will definitely drop back in next chance I get!
Posted 1 year agoGreat atmosphere, great people. Unlike most BJJ places there is a lot of room on the mats. Lots of different ranks all willing to share. The kickboxing/muay thai program is great as well. In both programs you can find the novice all the way up to those who compete.
Posted 1 year agoThis place is top notch! The school was recommended by a great friend Master felix. I couldn’t be happier with my son’s development! Master Tommie, Mister Eddie, and rest of the crew are great! Extremely happy.. A+++
This was our first year at Annapolis' Best Summer Camp through East Coast Martial Arts, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. My son comes home every day raving about the fun games they play, especially "Civilization." But what truly stands out to me as a parent is the attention to safety. The staff has thought of everything—from the bright green shirts that make it easy to spot campers to the careful lunch protocols that ensure all kids with allergies are safe. The sign-in and sign-out process is thorough, giving me peace of mind that every child is going home with the right person. I've already recommended this camp to my friends, especially those who might be anxious parents like me. We tried several different camps this summer, but Annapolis' Best Summer Camp is definitely at the top of our list for next year. It really lives up to its name!
Ive known Master Tommy Lee for two decades now and visited his facilities several times. Him and his seasoned instructors care about their students. Their age-specific programs are well-presented to really achieve the benefits each member is trying to accomplish. I can’t help but write this review for the benefits of parents and students looking for a martial arts school in Annapolis area. This is one of the best schools with a well-known & respected owner in the Coutry. I highly recommend it!
My son has been attending for about 2 years, and without a doubt this is the best place in the county to have your child learn Taekwondo. The instructors are phenomenal and the owner has got to be the nicest person I have ever met. We have been through about 12 different sports over the years before using here, finally my son fell in love with martial arts here and it has become his prime directive to excell here. Definitely recommend ECMA.
One of the premier martial arts studios in the US.
Our son (5yo) is enrolled in the BullyProof Jiu-Jitsu program and loves it. A great mix of grappling and self defense as well as some games to keep them upbeat. The staff has been wonderful to work with and the lead instructor Master Erik is awesome with the children. My son has learned a lot in a short time in terms of the sport but also has improved with his discipline and listening skills. Through COVID Master Erik took time for Zoom calls for the class, which for a majority were only 1 or 2 students participating. This was greatly appreciated and my son can’t wait to get back in the Mats at the facility.
Loved my experience at East Coast Martial Arts. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing atmosphere to practice Martial Arts.
Organized and great instructors! They work well with kids and adults like me! I highly recommend ECMA!
I took the intro to Gracie Combatives Jujitsu program in Annapolis and thought it was great. I was a little nervous because I was older than everyone, but it went well. Erik was a very good instructor, and the people were very welcoming and friendly. I learned a lot, and recommend them highly.
Great place to get some exercise and actually learn something... Friendly, knowledgeable staff...
An amazing experience happens here at East Coast Martial Arts. In here, you are treated as family where everyone is invested in your child and really focuses on teaching them life lessons they can carry throughout their lives.
I have been training at East Coast Martial Arts for seven years and I have loved every second of it. The instructors are amazing and have many years of experience. They make classes so fun that you can’t wait to come back for the next class. I can personally say that ECMA has had a positive impact (not just physically but mentally as well) on my life completely that I would not of had if I were at any other school. My family and I love ECMA so much that we plan on enrolling my nephew in the future. If you want a true martial arts experience you should come to ECMA.
A wonderful place. Full of great teachers who are encouraging yet firm for instruction. From the initial tour, try-out classes in various disciplines, to actually enrolling and taking classes, to questions for the front desk -- welcoming experience. Our son has improved in confidence, self-discipline, and even appreciates the importance of homework and a clean-room -- the lessons are beyond just martial arts. Thank you!
My son recently started taking lessons from ECMA, and he is loving this class. Master Erik and the rest of his team have done a great job of working with my son to build his confidence and skill set at ECMA. I highly recommend this place for those with kids and/or a personal interest in receiving martial arts training. Fast forward to the present (2016), my son has been taking lessons at ECMA now for more than two (2) years and will soon be testing for his camo belt; ECMA has worked with him every step of the way. If you are looking for family friendly atmosphere and highly trained instructors who care about your child's progression in this sport, then look no further.
I have recommended East Coast Martial Arts to many of our friends. My son has trained at ECMA for over 6 years. Over that time he has had many fantastic, caring and very knowledgable instructors. This school has helped by son develop a self confidant attitude that he will carry his whole life. The principles and lessons he has learned from both his instructors and the leadership student instructors have carried over both at school and home. He worked extremely hard and is now a black belt. He has developed focus, discipline and respect for others through his training at ECMA. Through his training at ECMA he has developed the skills to handle many of life's challenges. And he has had fun and developed lifelong relationships at the same time. ECMA is a family and I am proud to be a part of such a fine school.
Our son attended camp at ECMS over the summer and it was an awesome experience for both him and us. He was less than an ideal student his first day and I was floored with how well things were handled by the instructors and Master Tommy. They made it clear to my son what was acceptable and not acceptable behavior and the meaning of respect. I feel like he did a lot of personal growth that week. I highly recommend East Coast for their superior skills in handling behavioral issues, teaching every child what respect is, and at the same time creating a really fun environment that a child can enjoy and learn in.
Great adult kickboxing class! It will kick your butt, and it is worth every excruciating minute!!
ECMA is an awesome place to take Tae Kwon Do. Not only do I train with ECMA my 3 kids do as well. All of the instructors are awesome.
Master Tommy, Master Erik and his team are the consummate professionals who really take the time to know each of their students. My two sons began at ECMA when they were three and five years old and trained there for 3.5 years. I also took GJJ classes for two years. My family and I moved out of state and the thing we miss most is ECMA. I have searched for a school for the past seven months and have not found one that favorably compares to ECMA.
My son Loves ECMA! The staff is great and the instructors are just amazing. They pay attention to each clients needs and really make the instruction exciting.
My son (5 years old) has been going to ECMA in Edgewater for a little over a year and loves it. All of the instructors have been great, Master Wes is great he is firm but also compassionate. Mr. Mike, also a instructor is great with the kids, my 3 year old daughter that hasn't even started loves him, oh and she will be going. I would recommend ECMA to anyone.
East Coasts Martial Arts has been a blessing for our son. It help him regain his confidence at school and gives him goals to strive for and helps make him a polite child in our neighborhood. The instructors are fantastic and take the time to befriend all the students.
My son and I have been students at East Coast Martial Arts for 9 years. We love it! Enrolling my son when he was in kindergarten was one of the best decisions we have made. All of the programs are taught by wonderful instructors. We have had many positive "growing" experiences over the years.
My child has been going to East Coast for almost 2 years. His confidence has soared in school and personally. He is so proud of his accomplishments there and loves it so much. He never wants to miss time. Tommy and the staff work so well with the children. The classes are structured simple enough for him to learn and not feel like he is falling behind. My 20 year old nephew went here as well until he received his black belt. There are a few martial arts programs in the area. But, I wouldn't send my child anywhere else! Thank you Tommy and all the staff here !
I joined the kickboxing class at East Coast Martial Arts in Annapolis, MD, in July 2013. Since then, my energy has gone up, I feel better about my health, and my confidence has increased. I'm thinking about trying out their tae kwon do classes this year to meet the personal goals I have set for increasing my fitness. I am very happy with the knowledgeable instructors and the focus on family. The entire team at ECMA is helpful and kind. I highly recommend East Coast Martial Arts.
Me and my family have been taking classes at ECMA for over seven years and love the sport, the exercise and how fun the instructors make the Taekwondo classes that we take together. We are all on their AAU Competition Team and have so much fun training and competing together as an awesome National Championship team. We just love this sport!
My son is 12 years old and a first degree black belt. He started at ECMA when he was 4 1/2 years old. He completed the Little Dragons program and earned his Camo Belt and then transitioned to the older kids/adult program. ECMA's instructors are excellent and care about their students. They always make my son feel welcome when he comes into the school. My son is also involved in the Leadership Team, Demo Team and is on the AAU Competition Team. He is always at ECMA and honestly there is no other place that I would rather he spend his time. I trust the instructors! Fantastic school and wonderful opportunities for your child to grow, especially through their middle school years.
We love East Coast Martial Arts. The instructors truly love to be there and do a great job keeping the kids engaged. We have a 7 year old in the program and we took advantage of the summer camp last year for both our 7 and 8 year old sons. They are anxious to go again this year.
This is a wonderful Martial Arts School. I am not sure why someone posted that comment. ECMA has been in this area for over 19 years and we don't have to do any seminars to test. If we miss too many classes, there are make up classes available. Only if we miss too many classes and all our make up classes are we not eligible to test. If that occurs we may either opt to do some private lessons and/or go to a testing workshop camp where we can get class credits. This martial arts school has a ton of integrity. Parents sometimes get upset if their child cannot test because they miss too many classes and or aren't ready to test. This shows me integrity. Not sure why the other post says different unless they are not a student or a parent that expects to get something just because they show up. There are many schools that will just give rank if a parent complains. This isn't one of them. Master Tommy and instructors, your doing a great job. Don't change a thing.
My son does BJJ in Massachusetts, he came to visit me for the summer. While he was here, he attended a number of their open mats and practices. He really enjoyed it! When I asked him what he thought, "they are the most welcoming and easy to fit in. I learned some new stuff, they also had great coaches!"
Posted 1 year agoThis was a great place for kickboxing! It was a good price and was easy to do.
We were initially excited to enroll our son. It seemed like a great fit with friendly, kid oriented instructors that strove for excellence. After a few classes, however, it changed. The classes became almost exclusively taught by student instructors who needed some guidance in teaching younger kids (they knew their stuff but had a hard time translating it into lessons, not their fault!). In the 45 minute class time, instead of teaching the class as a whole, they would pull a student one at a time and do one on one while the other kids had to sit and watch (super boring for the kids and doesn't teach them anything). There was no expectations of the kids that they should try to have proper form for stretching or the moves being taught. My son was in the class for 5 year olds but we observed that the level above him was the same. There is giving kids space to mess up and there is not asking them to try, and this was the latter. So, after giving it a fair shot for several months, we tried to withdraw. We were told this was impossible unless we were moving outside a certain radius of the studio and were required to give our new address and/or my son's new school's name so they could verify. We did not want to provide this information for our privacy and told this to the owner several times. To date, the studio continues to charge us and refuses to stop unless we provide the above information and still lists our son as a student although he hasn't been in two months. I would absolutely NOT recommend this studio. My son had been doing MMA happily for 9 months before we moved and had to find a new studio and, honestly, he isn't sure if he even wants to do MMA anymore after this experience. He had some real behavior breakthroughs as a result of MMA before we moved but his behavior became really bad as a direct result of attending classes because he was so bored during class and felt he could do whatever he wanted, whenever, which is the attitude of the studio (at least for the under 7 year olds).
