I'm a 50 something and have been a part of this gym since March 2022. It's been a fantastic journey that is a key part of my health and fitness regime. You will learn so much about yourself; it’s not all physical, there’s an intellectual and psychological component too. Coach Dom is excellent, especially as he gets to know you and your goals; he stresses fundamentals and building upon technique. If its your first time, you’ll be humbled right away, but keep persevering and going to the classes each week. After 6-months, you’ll look back and realize you’ve got greater confidence and situational preparedness. The other students (Team) are super supportive and there’s just a natural and genuine vibe of humility, understanding, and “esprit de corps.” If you are not ready for that gym class experience, then consider doing private lessons with Dom. I could write a 3-page essay on why this gym is just the best, but just sign up for an intro class and see for yourself.
Posted 1 year agoDom runs such a wonderful program here. I’m not particularly interested in jiu jitsu, but I absolutely LOVE the women’s self defense class. It’s been so empowering for me, I feel safer in my regular life and more confident. The community at this gym is incredible. Folks are friendly and inviting, I’m comfortable learning alongside them and making mistakes. Everyone is so accommodating and ready to help me learn. I feel safe and welcome in the gym, and beyond that, these people have become my friends. 100% recommend.
Posted 1 year agoMy daughter and I decided to start Jiu Jitsu together for her last year and half before going to college. We looked at 3 gyms in the Lamorinda/ Walnut Creek area. We chose Dom Hoskins because he offered the best combination of 1) creating a welcoming environment for beginners of all ages (me 53 and my daughter 17) and 2) a curriculum providing strong foundational teaching suited to the needs of beginners and advanced students. Fast forward a year and a half, my daughter is a blue belt, and we got the opportunity to make great friends of all ages and even compete a little together in a local tournament. Dom has built a special group of people that have made very special memories for me with my daughter that I will cherish forever.
Posted 1 year agoMy experience at Dominat10n Jiu Jitsu has been fantastic. I discovered this gym through a friend and have been attending their women's self-defense class on Sundays whenever possible. Before joining, I had no prior experience, and I was also navigating the challenges of being 4 months postpartum. Despite feeling nervous initially, Dom and everyone at the gym have been incredibly welcoming and supportive throughout. The atmosphere at Dominat10n Jiu Jitsu is both enjoyable and patient. The class is structured in a way that even newcomers like myself don't feel overwhelmed. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning self-defense or jiu jitsu!!
Posted 1 year agoDom Hoskins has created a safe and welcoming environment for anyone interested in training Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu. My four-year-old son, my eight-year-old daughter, my husband in his thirties, and myself, a woman in my thirties, have all been able to find great joy in learning this sport. None of us have had any sports experience in the past. I, in particular, had a lot of fear and skepticism about getting on the mat. I had no confidence in myself. However, Dom and Scott are both terrific teachers with deep knowledge and patience and have helped guide each of us into leaning into our own potentials. Now, after seven months of training, I just competed in my first BJJ competition, overcoming some real anxiety and personal blocks. This gym has an overall friendly atmosphere where everyone helps each other, from the white belts to the black belts
