I was worried about joining a martial arts gym as a woman who’s never done anything like it before. Not only has everyone been extremely welcoming and supportive, but they also offer a women’s only class on Wednesdays and take steps to ensure I’m comfortable throughout any classes I’ve chosen to attend. It’s been fantastic so far, I’ve learned a lot and I’m excited to keep going!
Wonderful environment, awesome instructors, great gym
I love this place. I’ve been here for a couple months now and it has been such a fun experience. I hope this place stays open! :)
I am a 43 year old BJJ brown belt and have trained over 25 years in boxing, muay thai, sambo, MMA and BJJ, and even ran a gym in Rhode Island. Everytime I am TDY I drop in at gyms. I am selective in order to avoid injury or mcdojos. This gym is simply fantastic! Welcoming dudes, super great vibes, and good rolls. And the head owner is so gracious, with great character. I loved watching all of the various arts. A vibrant and thriving gym for sure. If you’re in the area or thinking about training, definitely this is the place to be.
This is a great gym. Love the atmosphere and the people.
Rated 5 stars cuz I’m thinking about joining this gym. I love BJJ and Muay Thai
Grand Master Manuel Taningco does more than teach martial arts. In 2004, my husband just got out of prison (I was not with him yet). He always wanted to learn martial arts. When he got out, he went up to TAMA and asked if he could barter with Manuel. Of course he said yes and their friendship started. Master Taningco has kept teaching him about all aspects of life, not just the trade agreement they had going. He tells him what he needs to do (he hardly ever listens) to be an honorable person through his life journey. He is very patient and is a great teacher and role model for the young students. He takes a lot of time to make sure the students get their form down perfectly. He is very particular about form and it's great for the students who are learning. I vote him a ten out of ten. Very good person, teacher, martial artist, and is a fantastic role model.
Best experiences teachers & atmosphere you must attend
About 2y experience of coming here. However drawn you are coming in, a good session on the mats with friends honing each other's skills makes you leave with big smile on your face every time, and exhausted :) JR is a friendly and open minded instructor who allows real people to set their own goals, developer their own game and keep things in good spirits whether you are going strong or working around your limitations.
Joined approximately eighteen months ago and don't plan on leaving for two reasons. One: class attendance is always solid; four or five at the low end, and ten to twelve at the high. Two: classes are provided in just the manner one trying to learn hopes...an instructive one.
I spoke with Noah over the phone who informed me that the jiu jitsu class for 4-7 year olds were on Monday and Friday from 5:30-6:15 which what it states on the website as well. When I came in on Monday at 5:20, Tish who seemed annoyed that I was even standing in front her inquiring about the class told me that they no longer have the class on Monday. Tish was very rude and I can’t imagine bringing my child to a business like this. Noah was very pleasant over the phone, he just gave our incorrect info and the website info is incorrect.
