Me and my sister just started and we are loving it. The place is nice and isn’t like those others with trash everywhere. It’s amazing, they’re so welcoming and fun. You make new friends while learning. It’s absolutely wonderful and you should try it.
Posted 9 months agoI’m a newbie, I just started training here and I’m already loving it. Brett, the owner, is an awesome guy super welcoming, really funny, and makes the environment enjoyable. You are learning, getting a great workout, making friends, and laughing your head off at Brett’s coaching cues. The classes are structured in a way that makes it easy to learn and pick things up quickly. I’ve already been learning a lot in a short time. Great atmosphere, great people, really amazing culture and community highly recommend!
Posted 11 months agoThe vibe of this gym is very welcoming and great for students of all ages, abilities, and levels of experience. The instructors are all super knowledgeable and help guide students to reach their full potential. People get into BJJ for a myriad of different personal reasons. Some gyms seem to have a common thread of pushing their own on agendas on students and don’t seem to care about everyone’s own reason for joining. Daniel Gracie Delco is not one of those gyms. Brett has created a culture of working hard, displaying mutual respect for everyone who comes in, and treating students as individuals who have their own reasons for being there and helps them to reach their goals. No agendas, no egos, just a lot of hard training individuals with dedication to improving their jiu jitsu skills and creating a better quality of life for themselves.
Posted 1 year agoTop notch coaches, great attention to detail, love every second of it.
When visiting family in Delco, I messaged Brett asking if I could stop in for a class. He was extremely welcoming and happy to have me drop in. Since then I've dropped in for several classes and every time I have learned something and have been impressed by the camaraderie on display. Everyone at the gym seems happy to be there and at ease with each other. I've trained at several gyms while learning Jiu-Jitsu and not every gym has that sense of camaraderie. It's a very valuable thing. Quality instruction and quality people.
The skills I learned at this school have helped me win countless physical altercations in applebees parking lots and behind the local gas station, without Brett’s teachings I wouldn’t be feared. 5 stars!
Update: I was with this gym for about a year and some change. In May of 2023 they stopped teaching classes out of a firehouse and opened up their gym in prospect Park. I was asked to help coach the kids classes by the head coach. I wasn't sure about it because I am a white belt but I was convinced I would be an asset to the program and it would be easier for the little girls to feel comfortable with another woman who was also a mom. I did it for months and man I loved it, kids are truly amazing. Got to the point I was asked to cover classes if the head coach wasn't available that day or if someone was running late. The kids classes got so big and we were doing so well! Another person ended up joining who had kids and I ended up getting pregnant with my second and this person didn't respect me at all. She was only a blue belt herself and I tried to just deal with the situation myself because I wanted to get along with everyone and be a team. It got to the point where I thought brining it to Brett (the owner) would be appropriate because I didn't feel this situation was okay and after dealing with it by myself for months and not finding resolution, I thought this was the best plan. Well it was somehow perceived that I was the only person with the problem and that was it. I ended up leaving because I didn't like the way the kids class was run any more, a lot of the kids were getting frustrated and overwhelmed because of this individual and how they decided to coach (I also expressed this to Brett). It seems I wasn't the only person who left and it looks like the classes are much smaller now. Fast forward I am six weeks postpartum and I wanted to just come back for myself (not bring my son), the adult classes are fantastic and Brett is a great coach and teacher. I was told I am not welcomed back. No matter what gym you go to, issues will arise and not willing to resolve them and be okay with losing a member who dedicated a lot of their time into your gym is very upsetting. I trained about 5 days a week, cleaned the gym weekly and helped coach the kids class and had a great relationship with everyone. Now no one talks to me anymore, I think this could have been prevented. If you're thinking of coming here, do it! The adults classes have amazing teaching and coaching. I wish nothing but the best for them and hope their kids classes can be fixed and adjusted in the future! Been with this team for 2 months! Such a great group and an even better instructor. Such a welcoming group of people and excellent training partners. I love that this gym has traditional roots and doesn’t allow cliques and drama to fester. I know a lot of women hesitate to join gym’s because the lack of women in the classes, to be honest I sometimes forget because of how great of a training partner these guys are! My son will be also training, he has prior experience at another gym but I am so excited to get him involved at Daniel Gracie Delco. Love my team and can’t wait to see where this journey takes me and my son ❤️
Daniel Gracie Delco has been my first BJJ gym I have started training at. I have visited a couple gyms since starting but this is and will forever be my home at the end of the day. the culture of the gym is immaculate and is focused on a friendly and competitive environment. Brett is an incredible instructor who helps each student get the most out of themselves every class and always pushes them to become better.
Great club to train at, really good technique
This is a great place to learn and practice Jiu jitsu! I drive across the city to come here for Brett’s teaching and for open mats, guest teachers, etc. It’s a welcoming place, and also full of all levels of practitioners. Highly recommend.
Brett and his crew are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Great gym for all levels of juijitsu.
I joined Daniel Gracie Delco gym about a year ago to get myself in better shape and learn self-defense. The head coach, Brett, has been incredibly welcoming and understanding. I have a little experience in kickboxing and wrestling but I was completely uneducated about Brazilian jujitsu. Not only have they gone out of their way to make me feel welcome, both the coaching staff and the other members, but I have also found friendships and camaraderie that I was missing in my life. I could not recommend this gym more to both the first time students and long time veterans.
My daughter and I both train at Brett’s place in Delco… it is unique… there are other places… we have tried others… here however there is a level of understanding, selflessness, and support from all involved which flows down from the owners philosophy about combat arts. “We need this…” Why else would you do this ? My daughter competes regularly at both BJJ and wrestles…Brett takes the time as well as his staff to prepare her and be there for her… find her things to expand her ability and understanding… discuss her thoughtfully… so important… Regardless of your desire to compete…just do something for yourself…have your child find something fun and rewarding for their self esteem and character you can find support for that here… Definitely not a cookie cutter BJJ joint that just churns… Lessons… This is hard… Hard is fun… Other things are easier… I choose challenge… such cool things for a kid to learn… If you have the opportunity stop in and get to know the great people that gravitate here.
When starting out, BJJ is overwhelming and intimidating to learn, but make the first step and just come in. This gym is a standout experience with a pragmatic and realistic approach to teaching. As an instructor, Brett excels in technique development and fostering confidence in practitioners at all skill levels. His effective guidance makes the gym an excellent choice for anyone seeking to enhance their BJJ game at any belt.
Coming from traditional martial arts for over a decade I can say I wasn’t sure what to expect. From my first interaction with Brett to stepping on the mats in class, there was no pressure and everyone was open and extremely helpful. I can honestly say the level of teaching from Brett and all of his instructors are top notch. The instruction is clear and precise. What is most impressive is the environment he has created. Everyone from higher to lower belts they are all patient, always willing to help and at the same time extremely talented but with no ego! If you are on the fence do yourself a favor and give this gym a chance, you won’t regret it.
Amazing gym, great for newer people as well, Jeff and Brett are both great and the atmosphere is amazing. They are passionate about the sport as well as teaching it and it shows. We went when we were in town for work and going to our old gym just won’t feel the same after the great experience going to this gym.
Brett and his team of coaches are excellent! They've created a very friendly environment welcoming of all skill levels. Whether you're new to the sport and have been wanting to try it out or trained in the past and want to pick it back up, I highly recommend this gym!
Approachable staff who are eager to teach. Positive gym culture and very diverse. Would recommend to any jiu Jitsu player at any level.
As someone new to the sport I was originally worried about being Judged, ostracized, or "Left out" but at Daniel Gracie Delco none of these worries were made true. I was instantly accepted as one apart of the group! Brett teaches amazing lessons that are applicable much beyond Jiu-Jitsu, Additionally Daniel Gracie Delco consistently has guest instructors come and give phenomenal instruction! Whether your new to the sport, returning to the sport, or looking for a new place to train I would highly recommend adding Daniel Gracie Delco to your list of places to attend. The atmosphere you feel when you walk in is the feeling of family and hard work! Highly recommended to come.
Great group of classmates, even better instructors. Highly recommended to build skill and conditioning.
I was very apprehensive about learning Jiu Jitsu for many reasons. I shopped around looking for a place I might feel comfortable. I looked at lots of places in and around Delco. I reached out to Brett telling him about the anxieties I had about joining. He from the first email was willing to work with me. I showed for the first class and was hooked. Coach Brett took time to explain the days lesson and worked with me solo. By the end of class he matched me with more experienced. I look forward to coming to class to be part of something that has multiple benefits. The other members of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are so inviting and share enthusiasm for teaching. I highly recommend Daniel Gracie Delco. I feel great mentally and physically.
Daniel Gracie Delco is one of if not the best BJJ gym in the area, the culture of the gym is immaculate and is focused on a friendly and competitive environment. Brett is an incredible instructor who helps each student get the most out of themselves every class and always pushes them to become better.
Amazing coaching, support and knowledge of BJJ, self defense, wrestling, Judo, all around MMA. Highly recommend for women/girls and the whole family to go and have fun while acquiring a life saving skill. BJJ is a fantastic way to help with motor skills and stress while also getting the workout of your life. Bret caters to individual students needs and makes sure everyone is at their own pace while maintaining a safe environment.
My experience here has been amazing! The coach is incredible and very supportive. I've now attended about 6 classes, and am still a novice but already feel capable when practicing. If you want somewhere that really focuses on guiding you to your goals, this is the jui-jitsu school to go to!
Brett is an amazing BJJ coach. His classes have a clear structure and you get the opportunity to build on the moves and progress in every class. The atmosphere is very friendly and open to newbies and everyone is happy to help and show you new moves. If you are thinking of joining a BJJ gym, I’d highly recommend Brett’s.
If you’re in the Delco area and want to learn great jiujitsu that works and taught for anyone to comprehend this is the place for you. Professor Brett is a black belt under the Daniel Gracie (iykyk). He teaches so you get the move and breaks it down masterfully.
Amazing place to come and learn. Extremely friendly environment. Not only is the training helping my physique and developing skills. The environment is helping my mental health and impacting my life more than i describe to the professors sometimes. Come check it out!!!
I've trained at Daniel Gracie Delco for about 3 months while I am home from university. If you are hesitant about coming, DON'T BE! This is the PLACE for anything Jiu Jitsu. The instructor, Brett Linebarger, is the MAN! Brett is easily able to communicate/explain effectively and was even able to help me understand BJJ. I was also able to bring my sister, with zero grappling experience, to a class and he was quickly able to teach her the foundational principles of Jiu Jitsu. The other students from a few days of experience to 20 years is nothing short of a community. They will be there to help and guide you through wherever you are at in your Jiu Jitsu career. They even helped me make connections at gyms in Pittsburgh for when I go back to school. Sadly with university, this cannot be my home gym, but if you are in the area this is the place.
Amazing school with instructors that are willing to put in the extra effort
I am a BJJ Black Belt with 23 years experience. I have trained at many, MANY places & with many, MANY people. Daniel Gracie DelCo is in the top 1% of places I have trained with. It has a very welcoming, friendly atmosphere. In 5 minutes I felt like I knew these people forever. There are A LOT of very experienced higher ranking students. The training is BEYOND top notch. Exceptionally challenging, but presented in a way where all you need is a strong work ethic. The higher ranking students HELP the lower ranking students by explaining other options, but still making you to put forth your own "best" effort. The owner/operator is Professor Brett Linebarger. He is a first degree Black Belt, directly under Daniel Gracie, and was a former professional MMA fighter. His instructional style is detail oriented. Professor Brett teaches techniques, both fundamental & advanced, better than anyone I have ever seen. He patiently breaks techniques down so that even the beginners can begin to do high level Jiu Jitsu. If you want to learn Jiu Jitsu, and not just learn it, embrace it, Daniel Gracie DelCo is the place for you. Sometimes I will drive 1.5 hours to get there....and I hate driving. It is SOOOOO worth it though. Hope to see you there.
If you’re looking to improve your jiu jitsu game, look no further. Brett has a natural passion for teaching and breaks concepts down into memorable pieces. He’s an excellent coach and will often give advice mid roll (breathe, breathe).
Been training with Brett for awhile now, went from pretty bad blue belt to not so bad blue belt in a very short time period. One of the better instructors I've come across. Great mix in of competition jiu jitsu
Daniel Gracie Delco is the best BJJ gym in the region. Brett is an amazing instructor who brings humor, humility, and passion to each class. As someone who is barely one year into the sport I appreciate a training environment that is educational and not ego-driven.
Great instructor and really relaxed atmosphere.
This is the place ... PERIOD Coach Brett is well rounded instructor Friendly easy going environment All ages im 52 yrs old and absolutely love it
A very welcoming atmosphere with the top instruction and training partners. Whether you’re curious about training jiu jitsu and looking to get started or you’re looking to take your game to the next level, this is a great place to do so.
Brett is a great coach, experience here is fun and friendly. Great place to train for new and old practitioners. Brett and a lot of his other higher ranking practitioners come from a strong bloodline of Brazilian jujitsu practitioners who train under Daniel Gracie and promoted by Daniel Gracie. It has been a great experience growing and continued learning from a great coach, a tough coach, but a fair coach, who just wants the best from all the students he trains. Let’s go Daniel Gracie Delco!!!!
Amazing place to train, great people, and Bret is a fantastic instructor. Always willing to help and break things down for beginners.
Brett is a great instructor that gives great detail to all positions and technique he teaches. He is great at fine tuning your game and helping you build a solid game using the fundamentals. I highly recommend if you live in the delco area to go to his school for great instruction.
I’m a four-stripe brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a student of the martial arts for 32 years, having even taught BJJ fundamentals at an affiliate academy. I can say without reservation, that Brett ranks amongst the best instructors I’ve ever studied under. He is extremely knowledgeable, approachable, patient yet firm when required, and most certainly funny. He is also a gifted communicator, being able to explain techniques and principles in a number of ways and via whatever learning modality necessary to facilitate student understanding. The academy is a nurturing environment, and members are as welcoming to newbies as they are seasoned practitioners. If you’re looking for a great place to train under one of the finest instructors out there, look no further than Brett Linebarger and Daniel Gracie Delco.
Outstanding competitive atmosphere with hard work and respect at its foundation 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Daniel Gracie Delco is a great place to start your journey if you’re interested in learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu, mma, and/or self defense. Professor Brett creates a great learning environment along with a great place to build personal relationships. Brett is a black belt under Daniel Gracie, where better to learn an art but from someone who learned from the source! Brett does a great job of providing high level, easy to understand knowledge for practitioners of all skill and fitness levels!
Brett was one of my first coaches at the beginning of my Jiu Jitsu journey, and so much of my game has been shaped by his excellent teaching. He has an uncanny ability of breaking down complex movements into simple shapes and concepts, and making sure his students know how to apply jiu jitsu on the the mat and in real-life. He's created an amazing culture at Daniel Gracie Delco, and you'll find everyone here is super helpful, down to earth, and team-focused. Jiu Jitsu is just as much a philosophy as it is a physical activity and art, and you'll learn a lot of life wisdom while training with Brett.
First class instruction and atmosphere. Brett is an excellent instructor and explains the curriculum in a simple yet thorough manner. Great place to begin or continue your BJJ journey. Definitely brings the Daniel Gracie mindset to the mats and can relate easily to the beginner, hobbyist, or competition student. Safe and fun environment. It's a good mix of old-school methods that work, self-defense, and the latest sport-oriented style. Glad to be a member of the school.
I'm new to BJJ and have been training here for about a month now. The instructor, Brett, is very patient and thorough. At first I wasn't sure if I'd continue training or if I'd even like it. However, the hospitality of the other people training and the excellent instruction from Coach Brett has made me want to continue in the sport for a long time.
Brett is an excellent instructor with the experience and knowledge to back it up. The students there will welcome you like you're a cousin they hadn't seen in a long time. Highly recommend this place.
Where do I begin? I am very new to BJJ and Coach Brett as well as everyone there is keeping me interested and engaged. When I first started BJJ, I was only able to last a minute (if that). Every class I am able to last longer and I go home feeling great (albeit exhausted) with a bunch of newly learned knowledge to reflect on. Walking into a gym the first time was very intimidating but after one class, that went away. That is due to the fact that everyone in this gym is super friendly and won't be shy about telling you how you ended up in that arm bar.
I have been training jiu jitsu for the past 6 months and Coach Brett has been a big reason why I have stayed. He's a great coach that understands where you are skill wise but doesn't baby you. His teaching is top notch as he breaks down every move so anyone can understand it from the person who starts on day 1 or if you've been training for years. He has a great sense of humor that helps put anxious people like myself to just calm down and have fun. Most of important of all, he cares a lot about his students. The culture there is super friendly, everyone is helpful, kind, patient, and respectful. It's a fantastic place to train. If you were thinking about starting jiu jitsu and live in the area, come try it out. You'll be welcome with open arms by everyone.
I've known Bret, the instructor and owner throughout the four year duration of time I've spent training jiu-jitsu under Daniel Gracie. He is one of Daniel's black belts. You can expect very detailed and thoroughly explained instruction from him, and top notch training to sharpen your skills as a BJJ practitioner. Bret teaches techniques and drills that work at the highest levels of competition, having been a BJJ competitor and MMA fighter himself. You will not be disappointed!!
I'm brand new to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I wanted to lose weight, get back in shape, and feel better about myself, while learning something new and useful. I'm very glad I was turned onto this gym. The instructor, Brett, is very thorough and patient with new students. He pushes them to do their best but is also always looking out for the students best interests. I would give this review 10 stars if I could! Excellent gym, excellent knowledge base, excellent people who train here! All around great experience.
I’ve trained BJJ for over 5 years and visited dozens of gyms across the country. Professor Brett teaches some of the best fundamental classes that I’ve ever taken. He shows the important details that some instructors gloss over but more importantly explains the concepts that contribute to the success/failure of a technique. Solid fundamentals win Jiu jitsu matches and MMA fights. The Daniel Gracie Team fighters have made that apparent with their pro MMA records. I highly recommend you take one of Brett’s classes and find out for yourself.
Daniel Gracie Delco is the premier jiu jitsu schoo in Delco. The head instructor is an experienced jiu jitsu black belt under Daniel Gracie, and spent several years as a professional MMA fighter, being featured on the Showtime series ShoXC. The instruction he provides takes a skills based approach and focuses on effective techniques. He provides constructive feedback and is great at providing his students with the small adjustments needed to develop a truly technical understanding of combat sports.
I was fortunate to start my Jiu-Jitsu journey under Coach Brett Linebarger two years ago in Philadelphia. He is a phenomenal trainer and off the mats an even better person & friend. Daniel Gracie Delco is sure to become a community staple and a future hub of champions. I can not recommend it enough.
The Daniel Gracie line has mastered the integration of competition level fighters with casual BJJ practitioners. Every black belt I've encountered from Daniel Gracie has been phenomenal not only in their execution of technique and knowledge, but in their precipitation of that knowledge. Brett, the professor of Daniel Gracie Delco, is no exception. The environment he creates mixes you with the most welcoming and friendly group of, frankly, dangerous people you'll encounter, and they'll be quick to make you feel like you belong with them. Brett's style of instruction is quick to grasp, and is a catalyst for learning that doesn't leave you feeling overwhelmed with the massive flow of information you are receiving. You'll improve something every time you show up. If you are new and looking for a welcoming atmosphere to become a part of a great lineage of BJJ practitioners, or a competition level fighter looking for a black belt that has experience in high level combat sports, Daniel Gracie Delco is a place you need to check out.
In my experience Brett was Not a good teacher . NO PATIENCE at all !!!!!! He is Not the guy to teach your kid... He might be very accomplished in his field but he needs to work on his Interpersonal skills. My kid was there one day. Brett made sure to post his picture on Facebook. But it was the father of another student who actually worked with my kid that day. That man made it a very pleasant experience for my kid that day. I can't thank him enough !!! Brett could learn a few things from this guy !!!!! I went to a different place with my kid. The teachers and everyone was so Nice, Patient and overwhelming supportive... I enrolled my kid for a year and paid him cash for the whole year !!! So good job Brett you lost out on $ 2000 cash !!!!
