Coach Matt is great. Nothing but great experiences learning from a seriously legit instructor. Kids program is really popular too, mats always filled with kids with serious skill that they learned from Crimson Guard. Cannot have asked for a better place and you can't go wrong training here!
Matt is extremely passionate and knowledgeable on BJJ. My daughter started in spring and I am super impressed at proficiency and knowledge of BJJ. Matt also makes sure to balance discipline with fun time and games. The other students are all freindly and enthusiastic to learn. I have no regrets in enrolling her and trust Matt and his team to help her along her journey.

Crimson guard is the best jujitsu school you can train at. They have amazing coaches ready to assist you and they have very good students.I personally have been able to come back from an injury and have it be smooth they are very understanding. I won’t go anywhere else

Great coaching and healthy environment for learning so not only did I join the gym but I have my son in the kids classes. The mix of morning and night classes makes it extremely flexible while I’m on a swing shift. It’s a great way to stay in shape too. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking!

This gym is truly the best of the best. It’s a great learning environment for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort to train. I started two years ago with no prior experience in any form of grappling. The instructors and other students have guided me anytime I struggled and have motivated me to keep showing up. Additionally, the gym is kept very clean. The mats are wiped down judiciously and bathrooms and area surrounding the mat are kept tidy as well. Anyone that’s considering training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu should definitely come check out Crimson Guard.

Been coming here for about few months now, I can honestly say I see a difference in my ground work and it’s awesome. The instructors are great and they are always willing to help and guide you. These instructors are very skilled and they don’t act as if they are better than anyone else. It’s actual the opposite because they will roll with you to make you better, they will train you and show you where you can do better or fix a mistake. Matt (head coach) is very enthusiastic about training you and takes it seriously, he always has time for your questions and directs you as needed. Overall Crimson is family, a family where we look after one another and help each other out, no matter where you started. There is no ego here it’s all about how we can get better together. Don’t wait come and train with us.

I've been coming to this BJJ gym for two years. I have previously trained elsewhere at a place that was a bit different. I can with total confidence say that this is a great place to learn and train jiu jitsu at. Matt is an excellent instructor and I like the way he teaches and chains moves to a cohesive drill by the time you are done. He has other instructors come in as well who provide different styles that will compliment your game. The mats and environment are clean and I haven't had any issues with skin related stuff that can pop up in contact sports. Great gym that I look forward to training at for years to come.

There are some martial arts schools that offer a lot of coddling to kids and belts given out constantly. This is not one of them. Matt the instructor is great with kids, but in a much different way than most. Plain and simple he knows how to toughen kids up that need it and how to train kids to be athletes and strengthen them. Hes not soft at all, but not aggressive either. I trust him with teaching mine and noticed countless improvements with mine at home, not just at the school during class. Confidence, discipline, and more athletic skills even for other sports. I fully recommend this school, but do not come in thinking its an environment to be soft in. It was exactly what my kid needed and we are happy with the results and cannot wait to see whats in store for the future. On top of that, Matt's dedication to the kids team is through the roof. I have never seen a coach in any kids sport so dedicated to improving the kids and working on what they need to get better with.
Crimson Guard is a great place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Matt Giancarlo and the other coaches are very engaged and encouraging. Their support keeps me going to classes every week and wanting to learn more! I know getting involved in Jiu Jitsu can be scary at first, but I have never been apart of a more comforting environment where I can ask questions freely, receive feedback to learn from my mistakes, and meet great people who want me to succeed.
I started going to Crimson Guard to challenge my level of fitness. Going in I knew absolutely nothing. Day one I left learning something and I can say I’ve learned something new every time I’ve gone in and it is a challenge every single day! I HAVE TWO VIEWS ABOUT THIS PLACE SO READ ALL PLEASE……first view is the father/coach side of me…….Started crimson guard a couple weeks ago and I can tell you the very best thing about crimson guard is the owner Matt. After talking with him at a few practices I have discovered already he gives out the same energy as myself and I’ve only met probably a handful of men in my life that do (I’m 35). I am an emt as well as motivational speaker for kids and this man does it right. Doesn’t yell, doesn’t force his views on you, very open, and easy to talk with. Stearn but compassionate…. Now the other view is the athlete in me. I’ve wrestled my whole life being a ikwf 3x state champion and most outstanding wrestler my 8th grade year going into highschool I took 5th in state at 160lbs (not normal for freshman at that weight class) then taking 2nd my sophomore year then never wrestling again cause of struggles I had outside of sports. I know what talent looks like as well as what it feels like to be around it and Mr.Giancarlo is a prime example of what you should be teaching your young men which is that a good man is not a nice man but a very dangerous man who has it voluntarily under control and that’s exactly what Matt is. He’s the kind of person you should strive to be around that will push you and isn’t scared to stand up for what is right as he is also a Chicago police officer. He stands up for his athletes and doesn’t back down from anyone when it comes to them. I’ve learned all this just by being around him a couple times so far and can’t wait what I’ll have learned a couple months from now and very excited to have found this place. If you’re in the oaklawn area and looking for a place to grind and be around good people this is the spot for you. Also a bonus, Joey Gilbert (4x ihsa state champion 161-1 record) teaches some of the no gi wrestling/grappling classes of any of you wrestlers need a reason to go here.
Great place for learning jiu jitsu and other cardio fitness classes. It is a great environment and it is for both adults and kids! I have been here for almost a year and cannot wait for many years to come!

I couldn't have asked for a better place to start learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu . In my experience the Crimson Guard welcomed me with open arms. The facility is clean, everyone that I have rolled with practices good hygiene and the professors are willing to take their time and really work with you. They are open books when it comes to questions and they are prepared to transform you into a well rounded BJJ practitioner. I travel in total an hour and twenty minutes every other day of at least 3-4 days out of the week after work to be taught here. If you put in the work with them you will see the results in no time. I highly recommend them.
At Crimson Guard I have only had the best time. Everyone in the gym practices good hygiene as well as contributing to keep the gym clean. Matt Giancarlo the coach has been nothing but the best. From being able to answer any questions to having a high knowledge of grappling and martial arts. Crimson Guard is where I started BJJ and it has been the perfect pick for me.
When I first started here I had concerns due to knowing nothing about the sport other than it is the best self defense available. Matt Giancarlo showed patience and care with me every step of the way, I love it!!!
