If you’re looking for the best 100% no-gi jiu-jitsu experience in Connecticut, stop searching — this is the place. I’ve been training at Connecticut Submission Grappling (CSG) for the past five months, and it’s easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in 2025. The vibe is welcoming and ego free. Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned grappler, everyone’s here to help each other learn and improve. The gym itself is modern with state-of-the-art facilities. It has no smell (huge for me), a large mat space, a small gym area, a bottle refill station, AC, and a shower. It’s a space clearly built by people who care about safety, progress, and long-term development. But what truly sets CSG apart are the instructors and their approach to coaching. Alex and Ryan have completely redefined what coaching means to me, while being two of the most down to earth people I’ve met. After more than a decade around youth and college soccer coaches, I’m used to seeing people stick to how they were taught or what worked for them in their careers. These two are different. They’re constantly researching and talking with experts in movement science and skill development to sharpen their approach. The instruction you get each class feels thoughtful and personal, not one size fits all. Each class is built around live game based scenarios that feel more like playing a sport than doing repetitive drills. There are no warm-ups, no punishments, no speeches, and no wasted time. Just real grappling and real development from start to finish. Whether you’re in Fairfield County or New Haven County, and whether you're a beginner or have years of experience, CSG is absolutely worth your time. If your current gym feels stale, or you’re not getting enough live work, this is the upgrade you’ve been looking for. Come train with us! 🤙🏽

I’ve known Ryan since before he opened Connecticut Submission Grappling, and he’s always been a fantastic coach. CSG is hands down the best gym I’ve trained at in Connecticut. Ryan runs his gym a lot better than most—smart, structured, and focused on real progress. Great environment, top-level instruction—highly recommend.

CSG is one of the best gyms I have ever been to. From the cleanliness of the gym to the welcoming environment they help create. Highly recommend giving it a try whether you’re brand new to grappling or experienced.

I followed Alex Seneco and Ryan Moutinho to this new location after working with them for the past 4-5 years. I can confidently say that their coaching styles are unmatched. The gym utilizes innovative training methods, such as direct perception and constrained-led live rounds. Which not only enhances feedback but also cultivates unique, versatile and well-rounded GRAPPLING skills. Every class challenges me to push my limits while fostering a fun and engaging environment. If you’re looking for a grappling gym that prioritizes individual growth and offers top-notch coaching, Connecticut Submission Grappling is the place to be.

I've been training at CSG since they opened, and it's truly a unique experience. What sets this gym apart is that it's the only one in the state with no drilling and fully live training. They also teach classes using the ecological approach to learning, which has significantly improved my understanding and application of techniques. The coaches are top-notch, creating a challenging yet safe environment for everyone. The community is like a family, always encouraging each other to improve. The facilities are clean, and the class schedule is flexible. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, Connecticut Submission Grappling is the place to be for dynamic, real-world training! Highly recommend!
