Damien runs thoughtful and well laid out classes. He is kind, knowledgeable, and skilled. He teaches children and adults in a way that's very accessible and age-appropriate. He not only teaches Jiu-Jitsu, but also helps children develop social emotional skills. My daughter loves his class.
Posted 5 months agoI’ve been training at Chroma for a few months now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best academies I’ve experienced. As a brown belt, I’ve trained at a variety of gyms and seen different coaching styles and environments, and Chroma stands out among the top. Professor Damien is incredibly welcoming and makes a genuine effort to ensure every student gets the attention and support they need. The atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. When you’re training multiple days a week, the vibe matters and Chroma has built a friendly, positive, and comfortable environment that makes you want to keep coming back. The classes are well structured, and the techniques are taught clearly and effectively. Whether you’re just starting out or continuing your jiu jitsu journey, I highly recommend giving Chroma a try.
Posted 5 months agoChroma Jiu-Jitsu is an incredible place of learning, support, community and inclusion! Owner Professor Damien understands these things deeply and cultivates a rewarding experience for each participant. I am new to Jiu-jitsu, and felt the utmost support in all the learning I have done in the last nine months. While feeling supported is important for anyone practicing, I think it is particularly relevant for me, being a woman and having experienced other gyms and athletic places where I felt I didn’t belong. Sometimes it seemed intentional, but most times it just felt like no one was looking out for how participants may experience classes if they are not a man. Not at Chroma- because all things are done with intention here! I highly recommend Chroma to anyone, for their adult or kids programs, but especially to women. Jiu-jitsu is an incredible practice of strength and discipline that teaches you so much about yourself. If there’s any place to learn that in the best ways, it’s Chroma!
Posted 8 months agoI’ve been doing martial arts my entire life and I’ve been interested in Jiujitsu for a long time and I spent some time looking at schools and never found one until I encountered chroma Jujitsu. Professor Damien is a wonderful welcoming instructor who understands the art and teaches in a way that makes it easy to understand. The culture of this place is really great there is no “macho” mentality here. I’m very happy to be here and will recommend this to anyone and everyone!
Posted 9 months agoThe day I decided to contact Professor Damien was the day that set the ball rolling for my life to change for the better in innumerable ways. I had been interested in learning some kind of combat training for quite a few years. I was apprehensive due to not knowing what to expect as far as being unsure of what I am capable of and the other people I would have to train with. I had heard a lot about the egos & bro-mentality that often come with those who train in combat sports. When I was perusing local gyms, Chroma was the only gym that listed the prices on their website. This transparency was a show of integrity, which is very important to me. I didn't want to call around to all of these gyms to ask for their prices only to have them all try to "sell me" on a test class to get me in the door. The gyms claiming they're worried about cost scaring away adult students are falling back on a very poor excuse. A simple search will inform you of how much the average cost would be. It's worth the cost, I promise. The skills I have learned, the ability to learn control in the face of panic, the friends & community who continue to show up for & support each other, the confidence built, the fat lost & muscle gained. It's priceless. After my first day, I fell head over heels in love with Chroma & BJJ. I felt like I should have been doing it my entire life. For my ADHD brain, it has helped immensely with the emotional dysregulation & struggles with bordem that come with it. The challenges it presents & the endless journey of learning will keep me coming back for as long as my body can handle it. I am usually there 5-6 days a week so I can vouch for excellence & capabilities of each of the coaches/professors. They all have their own flavor to offer, but their technique-focused curriculum is unparalleled according to many of the drop-ins from other schools I've had conversations with. They are all highly attentive & well-informed, as well as putting a high priority on safety. Chroma's adult program is mostly comprised of hobbyists, but if you're interested in competition they will provide a comprehensive training plan to prepare yourself. If you're looking for something more hardcore & brutal, this might not be the school for you. If you're looking for inclusivity, positivity, challenges you can overcome even on your worst days, a bit of fun & laughing with some amazing, down-to-earth individuals who also have a passion for learning then I highly recommend you give Chroma a chance. I am sure they'll earn your respect, admiration, and trust just as they have mine.
Posted 9 months agoHad the honor to stop by last Wednesday, during noon class. Really enjoyed the way Coach Wendy broke down the importance of establishing position, before transitioning into submission. Great hospitality... 🙏
Damien is amazing with my son! This is my 2nd child involved in Jujitsu and 1st with Chroma. Let me just say WOW!!! All the coaches are fantastic! I love that there is a monthly theme. My son absolutely adores going to Chroma!!!
I don’t even know where to start because Chroma deserves a whole dissertation about how awesome they are. We were initially drawn to this jiu jitsu studio for our kids after checking out several studios’ websites and speaking with their Professors to get a sense of which studio would be a good fit for our quirky, neuro-spicy family. Chroma jiu jitsu really stood out in terms of inclusivity, and while chatting over the phone with Professor Damien I was immediately impressed by his empathy, down-to-earth nature, and his studio’s dedication to making “jiu jitsu for everyone.” I’m so glad I trusted my gut and decided to go with Chroma because Professor Damien, his wife Kismet, and all the coaches there truly embody this philosophy with their kindness, patience, and inclusivity, and because of it my kids immediately took to the classes with great enthusiasm. My twelve-year old who was very timid, prone to bullying, and lacked confidence and coordination has already benefitted tremendously from this practice in only a few short months. They seem more at ease, more comfortable in their body, and more confident in general. My six-year-old has more self-control now and is also more confident socially. Both of my kids thoroughly enjoy their classes and look forward to going twice a week. My husband was also immediately impressed with how great of a culture fit Chroma was for our family and soon began taking adult classes there himself, as well as coaching some of the kids’ classes. It’s been such a great outlet for him both mentally and physically after sitting at a desk all day at work. As for me, I honestly never pictured myself doing a close-contact sport like jiu jitsu, but after a few months of watching my kids and husband have so much fun at Chroma, I couldn’t help but jump in on the action and try out a couple of classes myself just to see what it was all about. I was honestly very surprised by how much I actually enjoy this sport, and now all four of us are taking classes! I don’t know if I would have jumped on board though if I had tried out with any other studio - I’m highly sensitive and really turned off by machismo energy and big egos, but Chroma has none of that. I don’t feel judged or belittled and the experience of practicing there so far has been nothing short of fun and empowering. While Professor Damien and the coaches ARE highly professional and serious about jiu jitsu, they are also serious about having fun and making jiu jitsu an accessible sport for a wide range of people, including awkward, neurodivergent women like me with a history of severe trauma. I’ll stop here, but I truly can’t say enough good things about this jiu jitsu studio. It’s been such a wonderful source of enrichment for my entire family.
came for a drop in session and had a great time. Thank you again professor Damien, cant wait to do it again!
Our son (age 4/5) has now been going to Chroma for just over a year. If I could give them 10 stars I would! Not only is Professor Damien phenomenal with the kids, but somehow even as they continue to grow and get new kids in every day, he knows and calls on EVERY kid by their first name! Additionally, since day one Kismet has greeted me and my son by first name every time we walk in, which has not gone unnoticed. By doing this they both have created an incredibly warm and welcoming environment for the kids and adults to thrive. Additionally, every class Professor Damien sits with the kids and talks with them about the word of the month, which is a lesson the kids can work on away from the matts. These lessons are about responsibility, gratitude, confidence, etc. and come with a definition that the kids can remember and relate to. When he goes over the word of the month, the kids all sit and listen intently on his every word. Again, I can not speak highly enough of Professor Damien and the amazing staff at Chroma. I have seen my son take the lessons from Professor Damien and put them into action everyday at school and home. Going to Chroma for the past year I have seen my son build his confidence, surpass his peers in his physical control of his body (balance, agility, and overall movement), and understanding of basic societal norms such as shaking someone's hand and looking them in the eye. These are lessons and skills that I have seen stick with my son day in and day out. To wrap up this review, I have friends that have taken their kids to other facilities for martial arts. Those friends have not had a bad experiences, but have also not had a great ones either. That is where Chroma stands above the rest, when I tell those friends what my son is doing and learning they are astonished and have remarked that it is not the same where they are taking their kid(s). While I know they are becoming very busy (for good reason), from what I can tell, there is no other place that has the ability to do as a great of a job with kids specifically, as Chroma. If you have to go on the waitlist, I will tell you, it is worth the wait! Thank you Chroma for all your work and dedication!
We had a great first day at Chroma! I even chit chatted with other parents while I was watching the high energy class and many of them reported improvements in their child's ability to follow directions, respect others, and reduce impulsive behavior. I was impressed with Damien's leadership of the children in the 4-7 yr old class and could tell he was a father himself. He showed the kids respect and kept them engaged the whole time. Thank you! Update: we're 2 months in and I'm still impressed and so pleased with Damien's coaching. He knows every single kid by name, and is so kind and present and helpful. Multiple other coaches are often on the mats helping out so each child gets lots of attention and they are all also wonderful. The environment here is fun, kind, empowering, and well organized.
This is one of the best academies I've ever been to. Professor Damien is welcoming, the environment is laid back and friendly, and the students are awesome.
Dropped in for a Fri. night open mat. The vibe is laid-back, welcoming and the rolls are solid. The women-friendly and family-friendly atmosphere makes it a warm environment. Highly recommend bringing your kids when you go!
Kids loved it. Teaches both skill of the mind and the body. Great place! Highly recommended.
Our family cannot say enough about Chroma Jiu Jitsu's children's programs. Professor Damien has an uncommon ability to meet children with respect and kindness while holding them to the highest characterological standards. Truly, I've never witnessed a more consistently talented teacher interacting with young people. There is a reason that this program has grown exponentially since it started just 1.5 years ago. Damien, his wife Kismet (the manager of the whole operation), the other coaches on staff, the many parent volunteers, and indeed, the children themselves, all come together to create a positive community oriented toward personal and collective growth like none other.
We have done jiu jitsu at a few different places around town and this is by far the most inclusive, friendly, and enjoyable place we have found for the whole family. There are equal opportunities for all who join to earn belts and compete. Along with regular training, learning life skills and just how to be a good human are baked into the curriculum here. Coach Damien is great with the kids and the WANT to respect and listen to him. Highly recommend this program.
Chroma has been amazing for my daughter. The professor has good foothold on how to train children. The focus on basic life knowledge accompanied with Jiu Jitsu is great. I also enjoyed the free rolling workshop. It gives you good basic understanding/fundamentals of Jiu jitsu. I have visted amd trained 2 other martial arts gyms in the area in the past few years. Chroma has it right for the kiddos and the adults. Positive attitude and discipline is key to success.
The studio is clean and friendly. Inclusive with hands-on instruction. I love the sense of community, family and personal support. Damien is very attentive, well trained and respects the art. It’s definitely not combat bro place, which is refreshing. Many different demographics here.
I like how Damien allows the family to come and watch the hatchings and you can bring as many family members as you want so the kids can feel supported and it’s nice to see him work with children. I think he might be a big kid inside himself he has fun with his kids and ours as well. Well, done teacher you’re a good man
We are so happy at Chroma! Our 10 year old son has been attending classes for about three months now, has had a belt promotion, gained confidence, and is determined to become a black belt one day. Thank you to Professor Damien and his amazing team of coaches! They make the mat very inviting for the everyone, the gym is clean, the kids have so much fun, and they are getting stronger mentally and physically. So glad to be apart of the family!
Really engages and teaches the hatchlings (4-7yrs) patience, respect and good listening as well as new moves each class! They love it!
Our son has loved getting to learn the basics of Jiu-Jitsu! Professor does such an amazing job with both learning the art and teaching life skills each month. He’s always smiling when we leave!
Great place for BJJ. My two kids (8 and 6) really enjoy the kids program. I am having fun with the adult program. Damien is a great instructor and very welcoming
As soon as I walked into Chroma, I knew I was in a safe place. A place were I can enjoy the challenging art of the jiu jitsu, because my human values are not being challenged. Come here to learn and to work hard while being accepted as who you are.
We feel so fortunate to have found this Jiu-jitsu school. Our daughter has never been so engaged and motivated in any other activity, and it’s been wonderful watching her grow and thrive here.
Professor Damien, Kismet, and the other coaches are excellent and always very welcoming. Classes are a nice blend of fun and proper technique for real world situations. Plus a new, more competitive, session for kiddos that want to take their training to the next level targeting future competition. In over a year of going now, neither of our boys have ever complained about going to class and that's saying something! Keep up the great work!
Incredible structure, passion and flow! My daughter has learned so much from professor and his team. This has been such an added value in our lives!
Chroma has been a great experience for my kiddo. Not only is he getting great exercise he is also learning a set of positive values around taking care of his community and himself.
Here's the updated review: "I've been training at Chroma Jiu Jitsu for almost a year, and I can't recommend it enough! The techniques taught are comprehensive, and the curriculum is well-structured, allowing for steady progress and improvement. Chroma's facilities are clean, well-maintained, and provide ample space for rolling. But what sets Chroma apart is the sense of community - everyone is encouraging, respectful, and genuinely invested in each other's growth. Professor Damien fosters a culture of learning, camaraderie, and inclusiveness. Training under Professor Damien has been great! Teaching me to stay calm, focused, and problem-solve under pressure. Jiu Jitsu's physical benefits are undeniable, but the mental resilience and confidence gained are invaluable. Whether you're seeking physical fitness, mental clarity, or camaraderie, Chroma Jiu Jitsu with Professor Damien has something to offer. Five stars isn't enough!
I visited here and trained. There are great professor and coaches. Not good, GREAT. And It is cleanest gym I have ever been before. You can be comfortable to train. If you are interested in Jiu-jitsu, If you are just curious about Jiu-jitsu at least, It is worth visiting. If I have a child and live Colorado, around here, I would definitely want them to commute to here. Because I have come to be certain that my child will stand up for themself against bullying mentality and physically. I love “SHOW YOUR TRUE COLORS” which is back print of their rash guard.
What a refreshing experience! I dropped in from Atlanta and they welcomed me like I was one of their own. The instructors were very clear and answered questions thoroughly. I love that they offer a "Judo for Jiu Jitsu class" right before the main class, then open mat after if you want to roll or drill more. I loved the attention to detail when showing the move of the day. Your technical game will improve quickly here.
Chroma has been a wonderful space for my kids to train. Professor Damien creates an environment for all kids to thrive and the respect he builds between the students, coaches and staff is unparalleled. Classes are engaging, fun, and informative. After one class my child shared that the reason she loves Chroma so much is because it is building her confidence. I couldn’t ask for more as a parent. Thank you Professor Damien and to all the coaches for all you do!
I currently have a brown belt in BJJ, have been training for a number of years, and I was looking for a new place to train that values the things that I value: an affirming and welcoming space for people of different identities and a place where the instructors know my name and care about my training trajectory. At Chroma I am challenged, but I also have *fun*. When I walked in and saw all of the bright colors and friendly faces, I thought "I'm in the right place." I'm approaching 50, and I hope to continue rolling for many more years here.
We love Chroma for our 5 year old! Teaches mindfulness, great values, and good way to get out energy!!
This is a small-to-medium sized jiu-jitsu club with a great community feel. Professor Damien is very knowledgeable and humble, and trains with his students regularly (unfortunately, not all instructors do). He also teaches the majority of the classes on offer and keeps a close eye on the ones he doesn't teach. Very chill, lowkey vibes with some tough rolls but no egos that I have encountered. I would recommend this academy to families, kids, and adults who want to work hard and learn but are also looking for an inclusive place to train with no judgement.
Chroma is an amazing gym!!! My son has ADHD and often struggles with following instructions… sports are often hard for him and he spends most of the practice being corrected, which makes him not enjoy the sport. At Chroma my son has not only been able to follow instructions the whole class but is thriving far beyond our expectations. Damien and the team of coaches here are beyond amazing, they connect with the kids by meeting them on their level. They are learning great skills such as self defense, self discipline and getting so much energy out. Chroma also includes a subject every month like “bullying” or “hygiene” which they spend a few minutes of each class learning about. You can tell the kids have so much love and respect for all the teachers here. As a parent I am so happy to have found Chroma, Professor Damien and his team.
The environment is great, there are plenty of teachers and they are involved with kid practice.
Chroma has been an incredible experience for my 12 year old daughter. We’ve seen her transform over just a couple of months into a more confident, focused and happy tween. We’re so grateful to have found this incredible community!
We were lucky to hear about Chroma from a neighbor who raved about the format and coaches. Our daughter started attending and absolutely loves it. Damien provides a supportive, engaging and positive environment. We’ve seen drastic changes in our daughter’s confidence and attitude. The benefits are not only reflected in Jiu-Jitsu but are seen in other environments (home, school, etc.) We highly recommend Chroma!
The bully proofing process has not disappointed. I am regularly impressed by the transformation my son has made in his psychological and physical confidence, as well as respect for adults and peers. These benefits are priceless.
When I was researching gyms to go to, I was intimidated as a beginner; I was lucky enough to land on Chroma. As a woman, it was important to find the right place. Steeped in both toughness and kindness, this place is always a master class in the marriage of endurance and intentional strategy. Every session is mentally and physically stimulating-- if you like to get a full-body workout and simulataneously feel like you're solving a Rubik's Cube, this is the place for you. Both the instructors and classmates are all incredibly patient and quick to include you, which is refreshing as someone who doesn't know what the heck they are doing (me). There are people of all ages, all belt levels, and all walks of life. They take it seriously and show respect, while also regularly inducing the environment with laughter. Damien has created a big, illustrious family of people who love the sport and its people alike. Grateful to be a part of this as I learn this magnificent, weird sport.
My son has been going to Chroma jujitsu for a year now. He loves it and has improved a lot. Professor Damien and his wife are awesome.
An amazing and very friendly gym. Upon entering i immediately felt welcomed and included. Great place to start your jiu jitsu journey. Also offers kids classes. Wrestling and judo.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time starting out at Chroma. As a beginner, I was uncomfortable, and felt incapable, but the community and professor Damien have made me feel at home. Could not reco Chroma enough.
An amazing gym. One of my personal favorites. It's a great space to learn, grow and experiment. The professor is phenomenal. Definitely a safe space and super welcoming.
Chroma Jiu Jitsu is life changing. My son started going there in the fall, and has thrived under the kind care and guidance of Professor Damien. My kiddo is a highly athletic kid who hates team sports, BJJ is the perfect thing for him, he’s so proud when he earns a promotion, and he’s not concerned with winning and what all the other kids are doing like he was in soccer. The real life change is for me though, I started classes there about 6 weeks ago. I’m a 42 year old moderately in shape full time working mom of two. Last year I suffered multiple injuries as a result of multi-tasking and not be present with my own body and surroundings. BJJ is helping me get better awareness of myself and my body overall. It’s complicated enough for me, that all the noise of the day and in my brain goes away for the hour I’m on the mats. I think of it as a physical form of meditation. Chroma JJ is for everyone - all ages, genders, body types, orientations and races. All the adult classes are welcoming spaces where no one is bothered by slowing down a class for whoever needs it. I’m grateful for the space that has been cultivated at Chroma.
As a long time martial artist, I have pretty specific expectations of a martials arts school. I expect a certain quality of instructors whose primary focus is the love of the art, not sacrificing for the sake of profit. I expect an inclusive environment with no preferential social hierarchy. I expect teaching that enables individuals of all sizes, shapes, age, and ability. I expect to be challenged, always with positivity and encouragement. Chroma easily hits all of these expectations. The owners are genuine individuals whose focus for the school is "Jiu Jitsu for Everyone". From littles ones to teens to adults, Chroma has a program that works for anyone, and the instructors adapt their teaching to account for the needs of each student. All of the students are welcoming and eager to work with new members, and everyone is welcome. If you are in the area and looking for a fun learning experience and workout, I stronlgy recommend Chroma.
My son loves coming here! It's obvious that Damien works hard to create a safe space to teach Jiu-Jitsu. The team is passionate about instilling values of self control and responsibility. We're very thankful to learn from this talented group.
I’m both new to jiu jitsu and to Colorado, and I’m wholly grateful Chroma is where I decided to have this new learning experience. I have very little experience in taekwondo but wanted to do something that felt more natural and perhaps even aggressive. I’ve been interested in learning jiu jitsu for some time, and saw Chroma was offering a free class. By pure coincidence I started working with someone who was a student and instructor there. I noticed his Chroma sticker one day at work and asked about it and he invited me to come on a Wednesday night. It was a small, intimate group which made my initial experience incredibly memorable and important in my decision to join full time. Professor Damien was able to watch, encourage, and instruct everyone present. At no point did I ever feel intimidated, overwhelmed, or judged. He was very attentive and affirmative, and so were the others present. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to watch him instruct the kids classes (hatchlings 4-7yo, kaiju 7+). Not only is Professor Damien sincerely interested in their growth as jiu jitsu students- he’s invested in seeing their growth as respectable and respectful human beings. It’s obvious how much he cares. He is patient, fun, understanding, and motivating. I’ve quickly come to respect him as more than just my professor. The relationships I’ve made here are ones I hope to keep and to grow for a long time. I wasn’t sure if Colorado would be my home before, but I am certain Chroma is my home now.
The other reviews will rave about Professor Cordova's kind, inclusive demeanor, which is 100% true. Besides creating a safe, friendly environment, he is an excellent Jiu Jitus coach. He breaks down techniques and meets students where they're at. Professor Cordova will meet students where they're at and help them develop their attributes, If you're in the Lafayette area, stop by!
Besides being all-incluse, friendly, and safe, Chroma is an excellent school. Professor Cordova's patient, friendly, laid back approach makes learning Jiu Jitsu fun, and he presents the techniques in a clear, concise manner. Highly recommended!
Great gym for all ages. Very welcoming environment. Professor Damien is professional and experienced, cares about his students.
I dropped in for 30 minutes of drills and an open mat on a Friday evening. Prof Damien is super knowledgeable and welcoming, and everyone I met was friendly and had a great attitude. Great rolls! Thanks!
I recently moved back to Colorado from Northeast PA where I had been training BJJ for years. Upon moving one of my biggest concerns was finding another BJJ school to train at where I could receive quality instruction and a strong sense of community. I truly lucked out finding Chroma BJJ. From my very first conversation with Professor Damian I was met with warmth, acceptance, and authenticity. These traits, coupled with his passion and enthusiasm for cultivating his students and making BJJ accessible and comfortable for those who may not have had prior experience (or negative experiences) solidified my decision to make this my new BJJ home. If you're looking for a place to train that is fun, inclusive, and that will help you develop as a martial-artist and human being look no further!
Chroma is a great place to train. As a woman who is new to the sport, I felt comfortable and welcome. The gym has a vibe that is inclusive of all people and all training levels. The instructors take their time to make sure that I understand what I’m doing even if I’m the slowest to pick it up on the mats. Wednesday night is new student night, if you’re brand new that’s a great day to go and train with others who are new as well.
Came with my sister. It was my second time rolling at a gym. Everyone was very kind and worked at my level. There were a few girls there who were learning for the first time which was nice. If I lived closed I'd come more often. I wish it was easy to find a gym like this close to me.
This is a great program. Our kiddos enjoy attending classes-it’s a perfect mix of fun and structure. My daughter just earned her first stripe on her belt and I could see that she was happy to see how her commitment pays off. We’re seeing how it’s building character for them which is also what we wanted for our kids. They’re a good option for both kids and adults. They’re inclusive and we appreciate it. I’d have no problem recommending Chroma.
Chroma balances high quality jiu jitsu with a welcoming and fun environment. There's something here for everyone.
I have been training at Chroma for about 6 months now and could not be happier with the experience. I started training jiu jitsu at a different academy and didn't know what to expect, and I was thrilled to find incredibly high quality classes and great friends to train with. All of the coaches at Chroma are awesome. The training environment is great for all levels of jiu jitsu. I feel direct improvements in my performance basically every week because I'm able to consistently add new techniques taught in class. Thank you to Damien for bringing such a great jiu jitsu academy to Lafayette!
Quality instruction and great training partners in adult classes. The kids program has been a fun and exciting introduction to the mat for my 6yo.
Great place, great people. Fun for the kids and still very structured with visible progress each week.
We are so happy we found this amazing, supportive place! I could tell right away with Professor Damien’s energy that he is great with kids and passionate about teaching and supporting kids in a whole experience that helps them grow not only in BJJ but also as a human being. Our son loves coming as well!
My son loves Chroma! We were looking for something to help him build character and confidence! We’ve only been at Chroma for 2 months, and already see a difference!
Our family loves being part of the Chroma community. Professor Damien is an excellent instructor and builds a real rapport with the students. Our 8 year old daughter loves classes - and it's really impressive to watch the mix of technical training with fun activities (that secretly build technical muscle!) across all the age groups. We can't recommend this gym highly enough!
Professor Damien has created a phenomenal space for kids to learn Jiu-Jitsu. He has a great curriculum, clear expectations, and the kids love it! Being a parent with jiu-jitsu experience, I can say this place is a great place to train.
What an amazing find here in Lafayette! Our 8 year daughter was interested in trying a martial art and we found Damien and Chroma Jiu Jitsu! Damien and his coaches are welcoming, patient and friendly. Damien's instruction model is engaging for kids as well as thoughtful and supportive. Our daughter looks forward to the class and leaves with a smile! Thanks Damien and Chroma Jiu Jitsu team!
So glad I found this gym! I have been training BJJ off and on for several years and trained at several gyms. I am glad to call Chroma Jiu-Jitsu home. The instruction and fellow students are top notch! I feel this is the gym I have been looking for as the instruction is fantastic! Techniques are explained well and there is just a positive attitude around the gym.
Professor Damien provides a very welcoming and safe space for everyone to train. And the classes are fun!
Such a great gym. Not only is the owner an incredible person, but the atmosphere meets you where you are at. There is a great sense of community among the members. Definitely recommend Chroma!
I attended this Jiu Jitsu studio for the trial classes a few times and I thought it was an amazing gym! Very unique and engaging, and the owner is really awesome!! Highly recommend this gym :)
This place is wonderful! Professor Damien has created a space that allows everyone who enters to feel welcomed and accepted. My son just started practicing and is really enjoying it 🙂 Watching how the community comes together to encourage learning and growth is beautiful and I feel happy that he can be part of it ✨
Nothing but positive experiences at Chroma. I'm a beginner and have felt completely welcomed to the community that Chroma is building and fostering. Professor Damien has developed a class structure that has everyone's wellbeing at the forefront and is also challenging no matter what experience level a student has. The amount of knowledge and technique here is awesome, and the teaching style is super accessible. There is something here for everyone whether you're ultra competitive, just looking to get in shape, or whatever your motivation is.
Awesome! Totally welcome, fun, safe and super gentle, welcoming environment! Great people too. Very safe and fun culture.
Professor Damien is an incredible teacher and coach. He prioritizes safety and community, making sure friendship and mutual welfare matter more than taps. He does this without compromising on the quality of instruction and technique at the club. He knows both when students need to be pushed out of their comfort zone, or when patience and support are the better tools. This is a very tricky balance to dial in, but he nails it. His own background with the art is at the same time eclectic and thorough. He has strong Colorado roots, as he started his BJJ journey in the front range, but he also spent several years training in Japan, with a lineage that includes Yuki Nakai and learning and rolling experiences w/a cast of notable Japanese grapplers. Having him and his academy so close is a privilege. If you're in the area, don't pass up the opportunity to train with him and his students!
I am so impressed with Professor Damien and the safe environment he fosters for all ages and genders to explore and learn Jiu-Jitsu. His passion for this art form and his love for teaching it well, is apparent. I can't wait to see Chroma Jiu-Jitsu continue to blossom and flourish!
So glad we found Chroma Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Damien is an excellent instructor and role model. Watching my kids learn this martial art has inspired me to make plans to join as well.
Awesome trainers, owner is amazing, can’t wait to get me and my kiddo in regularly.
Professor Damien is an excellent human being. He leads with his heart. Which is a brave thing indeed. He has been diligent in his training and he knows the true value of training Jiu Jitsu. He will make an Academy where all are welcome. If you have any doubts, put them aside long enough to go train at Chroma.
Great open mat on Friday nights! Damien is a great gym owner and has fostered a good culture to train Jiu-Jitsu.
I can’t recommend this gym enough!Great community with a laid back atmosphere that is welcoming to high intensity competitors, relaxed hobbyists, and children alike.
I'm so grateful there is finally a Jiu Jitsu studio for kids in Lafayette! My 6 year-old LOVES the classes here, learns discipline and has a blast every time. I highly recommend this studio and the teachers!
A few weeks ago, I took a tour of Chroma Jiu-Jitsu with the owner and instructor, Damien Cordova. For many years, I have had my children enrolled in martial arts, and what they have put together here is beyond inspiring. I was able to observe a session for their younger students and came away impressed and knowing that this studio will be successful for years to come. He combined technical instruction with age-appropriate play that demonstrates a capacity for engaging with young students, that as a parent, I appreciate. I left the studio shortly after he began a course for adult students and was able to observe a that instruction as well. His confidence in his knowledge and ability combined with the quality of his instruction makes this a studio a must stop for youth and adults alike. On a final note, I want to express that this is a warmly family-friendly place. Damien's spouse plays an integral role in operating the studio and their adorable twin daughters can be seen watching their folks do their work. I walked away with a big smile. I know I will be back and highly suggest you check it out too.
Class there is amazing! The attention to detail for technique is second to none. Love the atmosphere! It was truly a great experience and will definitely be back. Phil (BJJ Brown Belt)

Awesome gym! I travel for work and was welcomed in without a second thought. Professor Damien is an awesome instructor and gives me feedback and advice on anything I could ask. Definitely recommend this gym to anybody with experience or just beginning.
Kids absolutely enjoy it. Helping our daughter get out of her shell.
Professor Cordova is a fabulous Jiu Jitsu coach and wonderful person. He was the coach for my kids when they were younger. Professor's knowledge, patience, encouragement and guidance he showed my kids was truly wonderful! As an older adult starting Jiu Jitsu he made it very friendly and easy to push myself and be comfortable when training with him. Which was truly appreciated! Damien Is a gem, one who is fabulous with kids and a lovely mentor of others. Thank you Professor Cordova! We wish you all the best! We will come and visit your Jiu Jitsu gym!
Chroma Ju-jitsu is a growing community; and it’s been a wonderful experience to watch as every week, ~1-2 students join the class. We had tried two previous martial arts styles and instructors, but in both cases, my son grew to loath attending. Now, every day, our son is excited to go to class after school. There are typically 2-3 instructors per class, including parents with high-level belts who have children in the class. The instructors are genuinely nice and talented; and they incorporate play to teach the youngest students basic forms and build strength.
I had never taken a jiu-jitsu class before nor any martial arts. Professor Damien is a great instructor; very knowledgeable and experienced. The vibe here is also really great. I learned a lot and built a lot of confidence just in the first class! Chroma is a great place for beginners, and from talking to some of the other, more experienced students, it's a great place for intermediate and advanced practitioners too. Highly recommend.
Very friendly and family-oriented. With high level jiu jitsu I'm suprised how gentle and encouraging they are. Expert intermediate or beginner, you're safe and welcome.
Very friendly, welcoming and professional environment. Classes are structured but not boring or strict and you get plenty of time to work on your own technique. Everyone is welcome so come train with us!
My daughter started Jiu-Jitsu this month and she is in love! Professor Damien is so helpful, kind and patient which helps her feel empowered to try new things. Thank you for such a welcoming environment for kids.
Professor Damien is such a fantastic jiu-jitsu instructor, parent, and overall human being. Thank you for sharing this gift with the rest of us!
Coach Damien is a really great coach he’s very friendly and takes care of his students
So rare to have a certified Japanese l Black Belt in Colorado. The technique is beautiful here.
Instructor is very knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly! The ambiance is very pleasant!
Professor Cordova is extremely knowledgeable and patient with his students. I felt very intimidated when first starting my path in Jiu-Jitsu, but he made me feel both welcome and confident. Can't recommend this gym enough
I've known Professor Damien Cordova for well over a decade, both personally and professionally. I've seen him living his life as a friend, husband, father, family member, artist, and accomplished BJJ practitioner and teacher. Training with Professor Cordova you can expect the highest quality BJJ instruction, and he brings a lot more than technical excellence into what he's offering at Chroma Jiu-Jitsu. He's someone who cares (deeply) about the quality (its character and spirit) of the community he's leading, and this includes a commitment to the character and spirit of every individual that contributes to and participates in the Chroma Jiu-Jitsu community. He's someone who really cares about helping people grow into and fulfill their best potentials (within, beyond, and through the practice of BJJ).
Professor Cordova is top notch! I enjoy his instruction, and my two kids love learning from him as well!
Been training with Professor Cordova for over 10 years and can say he's a high level jiu jitsu practitioner that's a true representative of the martial art. Beyond that, he's a naturally gifted instructor who will help both new and more advanced students rapidly improve. Highly recommend checking out Chroma and excited to see this academy grow into a powerhouse!
I met Professor Cordova back in 2010 when I started on my Jiu Jitsu Journey. We’ve known each other since we were white belts and I have spent countless hours on the mats with him. I am so excited for Chroma Academy to open and to see him as the owner/head instructor. He’s super technical, safe to train with, and has a ridiculously tight Jiu Jitsu game. Professor Cordova had been instrumental to my growth, and I know his leadership and guidance will help countless others. I’m proud to see Professor Cordova put himself in the position to positively impact others, in all areas of their lives, through the gift of teaching Jiu Jitsu.
