I started going to Chris Holdsworth’s Jiu Jitsu Academy in November of 2024. From the moment I stepped through the door, every single person I encountered was welcoming, down to earth and eager to help. Chris' prowess in Jiu Jitsu (and MMA) is well known and I was most impressed with his attention to detail and attention to each one of his students. The atmosphere and quality of instruction are truly special. The other Coaches, Dave and Lou, are great instructors, incredibly welcoming and invested in their students success. Even recently, as I have experienced some challenges at work, Chris and Darin have been beyond understanding, flexible and accommodating. I can not recommend this place enough to anyone interested in learning Jiu Jitsu and/or kickboxing from a UFC legend in a welcoming and friendly environment.

Darin responded right away when I contacted the academy and is very helpful regarding class schedule and sign-up. The academy itself is super nice/clean and easy to find. Chris leads a great warm-up and his teaching during technique is very easy to follow. He and Louis are very friendly and provide feedback and encouragement to the students. Holdsworth Martial Arts is my home away from home. This is my favorite place to sharpen my jiu-jitsu skills in the greater Sacramento area. Chris is a former UFC fighter who won the world-famous Ultimate Fighter competition. He’s cornered world-famous UFC fighters like: Andre Fili, Cody Garbrandt, Macy Barber, Darren Elkins, Josh Emmitt…I could go on. The guy is such a nice, humble instructor that you would never know how seasoned of a martial artist he is. His program is great from the kids classes to adults in the evenings. I currently reside in San Jose and make my way up to Orangevale to train at this academy. I’m looking forward to being a full-time student here and starting my son as well once we make the move. Need to check out this gym! This gym has world class jiu jitsu and you won’t find any better in the area, from the coaching to the athletes in the gym. I’d for sure recommend everybody to this gym for starting or advancing their jiu jitsu, as well as the kickboxing that just started here! My 6 year old daughter has been here for 3 months now. She had the choice to switch to dance, but she wanted to stay here. Coaches are excellent, and the other kids all help each other. Once you are here, you are treated like family. All the parents are amazing as well as the coaches. If you are looking for the right gym for you or your child, I would highly recommend trying here 1st.

This place is great. Chris is a total gentleman along with every instructor he has on staff. He is great with the children’s class and always addresses my son by his first name. My son is shy and often has difficulties interacting with new kids. Chris makes sure he is part of the group each class. The adult classes are excellent. I have not yet encountered a tough guy attitude, and wouldn’t expect to. The folks enrolled here are friendly and always eager to help each other. As a middle aged father and husband struggling with an aging body and mind, joining this gym is a far better alternative to the typical Mid-Life-crisis. Don’t sit around watching the world crumble like an NPC just waiting for their expiration. Take the leap, check out a free class, join us in our mission of discipline and self defense. You will not regret obtaining these skills if/when the apocalypse arrives. Worst case you get to rub elbows with some current and future UFC fighters.

A quick Google search will show you that Chris is qualified to teach jiu jitsu, but there are many locations for just instruction. Chris is the kind of professor that got me to train more, eat right, find more focus and over all improve my well being, physically and emotionally. It takes work, and consistency, but most importantly it starts with a lesson. An always learning attitude, or white-belt mentality, humility and respect are all found on his mat. 5 stars for skill, attitude and price!
Chris is the best Jiu Jitsu teacher I've ever encountered. He really cares about teaching to all levels. I have great teammates here helping me get better every day. Joining this academy has literally changed my life. The kids program looks awesome to and I can't wait to enroll my son when he is old enough.
I was very intimidated at first to start training with Chris and his team. He has coached and been in the corner for some of the most well known UFC fighters! Starting as a white belt at an older age was way out of my comfort zone. The experience has been life changing for me. Chris is hands down the most motivating, intelligent, coach. Level of instruction is elite, and the gym atmosphere is healthy and encouraging. Chris is chill and detailed in his instruction - he roams the floor and engages with everybody. Morning classes are great for novice/beginner and the advanced/competitors train at 6pm.

I have been with Chris since white belt and what I can tell you is he is second to none as a martial artist and instructor. He has coached the highest level ufc champions to the day one white belt. He has competed at the highest level as the Ultimate Fighter season 18 champion. If you haven’t checked him out you are missing out. This place is for everyone.
I have been to a few gym's and Chris Holdsworth martial arts academy has been above the rest. He keeps it simple and fun and his knowledge and experience has me evolving daily. I'm new to the game and he is able to guide me in a way I can understand. He's hands on with training and questions.
