Just finished the 6 week women’s empowerment class series! I would 100% recommend this class to any and every woman and girl. I was nervous going in the first time - not knowing what to expect. I was immediately greeted by a staff member and shown where to go. I went to the majority of the classes by myself, and I would encourage anyone who is reading to go even if it’s by yourself. You’ll meet some great people while learning how to protect yourself. Dave, the instructor, is great. I was definitely putting myself out of my comfort zone by going, but Dave made me feel comfortable with his encouragement. After finishing the last class, I can certainly say that I feel empowered!
A fantastic atmosphere for someone who is looking to get started in martial arts. As soon as you walk in the door, the staff is incredibly warm and helpful. From your first class, it is abundantly clear that the instructors truly care about the development of each and every person.
An incredible place to train martial arts. The staff and gym members are very welcoming and extremely informative. I look forward to training every day.
I highly recommend training here! Great gym, great culture, and great people! The instructors are very knowledgeable and are very helpful. The jiu jitsu classes with Wesley and Matt are awesome and I have learned plenty of great techniques.
I can’t recommend the Women’s empowerment 6-week course enough. It’s my third time participating, taking it about once every 5 years. As suggested, it’s empowering indeed. Dave always strikes the balance of taking self defense training seriously but also providing levity to an often triggering topic. I hope to not need the skills taught but I appreciate the confidence to know that if necessary, I’d fight like hell. Thanks to everyone who makes this class possible!
A great gym and atmosphere led by great people. All the instructors are fantastic, and willing to answer any questions you might have. Would def recommend
Great gym, great culture, great people! I highly recommend training here. There are tons of classes with knowledgeable instructors. Plenty of mat space and a large section dedicated to strength training.
I started jiu jitsu here over a half a year ago and am getting ready to spend some time away from Charleston, my only regret is that I did not start the sport sooner in life. The atmosphere here is great and the culture in the gym is perfect. There are so many good coaches and training partners that only want to see you get better. I have been to many world class wrestling camps and seminars and the coaching and what you will learn here is the best you will find anywhere. Thank you so much for starting me on my journey in jiu jitsu.
I took the 6 week women’s self defense class and was blown away. I was nervous to go alone but Dave, Rachel and Rebecca made us all feel welcome and created a great learning environment that was practical and fun. I highly recommend this class for any woman at any stage. The skills you learn will help you feel more confident!
I took the Women's Empowerment class and had such an incredible experience. The coaches were all so genuine and helpful. I learned so much and now walk with more confidence knowing I can protect myself if ever necessary. Thank you all!!
I can't say enough good things about what this facility and it's team has provided me with. You will not be floored by new shiny things, but you will be wooed by the classes and people!
My 13-year-old daughter and I took the Women's self-defense class with Dave, and it was one of the most transformative and empowering things we've ever done together. Dave's instruction is excellent. He was clear, concise, and totally approachable.
1000% would recommend to any woman looking to build a serious tool box of highly effective self-defense moves.
My girlfriend and I came in for a self-defense class. It was great! We worked with Eric and learned several neat techniques. We’re definitely going to come back again!
This place is amazing. The instructors are super knowledgeable and friendly. Everyone who works out here is extremely supportive. Great mix of different levels in each class. Doesn’t even feel like working out. Just feels good learning how to defend myself.
People may think they can't do this! WRONG...you can! People may feel intimidated to come to an MMA gym! DON'T BE....You can!. Matt has created an atmosphere that is friendly and conducive to learning. Someone with little to no experience can come here; and, you will be welcome, you WILL LEARN and you will leave more confident, in better shape, and with a usable skill. This is hands down the best money I spend each month!! Hands down my favorite hour of the day!! George S
I was visiting Charleston on a business trip and was looking for a place to visit for a BJJ class. I reached out to Charleston Krav Maga & MMA by email.
Ashley responded very quickly and was very welcoming! The location was convenient, the gym was clean, they have showers and lockers (which is more than I'm used to).
But, the most impressive thing to me was the facilities they had available. They have 2 huge mats, a full weight gym, and an octagon. I really couldn't believe it.
Rafaelo Olivera was extremely helpful and welcoming as were his students. We worked some new drills I hadn't seen before and I was absolutely able to implement what I learned when I got back to my regular class Monday night.
If I lived anywhere near Charleston, I'd already be a member. :) I can't wait to visit again.
I have been training here since 2013. I train now in multiple disciplines. There is no place better in Charleston for personalized, highly trained and expereinced instruction! Everyone here is dedicated, supportive and willing to teach. You will be made to feel like family. You will be encouraged to achieve your goals!
I have been going in this GYM since 2007. Soon as I found this GYM i realize that this is the place that I can learn real martial art and add to some of my skills. Stuff and all instructors are amazing. Matt Robinson and Rafaelo Olivera they are the most humble and most professional instructors I ever met in Charleston. I love Charleston Krav Maga and MMA GYM. Any time when I go there I feel huge respect, good attitude and real professionalism. I highly recommend everyone this place how is looking for learn and experience real martial art.
I can't say enough good things about the people here at Charleston Krav. The instruction is top notch and they offer anything you could imagine at different times each day. The instructors care about their students and take pride in being open to feedback. I'll never train at another gym.
I was only there for a short time but this is a solid gym who really cares about their members. I had never done anything like Jujitsu before and they really took their time and helped me understand what I was doing and why.
They also helped me with some contract issues that I ran into because of my own negligence, breaking the infamous 'gym membership' stereotype. I'd highly recommend these guys to anyone looking for a great workout with great people.
Have trained here in multiple disciplines (Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Krav Maga, powerlifting) and have been impressed not only by the size of the faculties but the staff's demeanor. Highly recommend.
And I have never had any issue with payment. Moreover, I know they changed their billing company a year or so ago, and through that transition, I never had any issue, even while having to freeze my account for 10 months.
Fantastic place to train and grow as a martial artist. The on site staff is the best around, and they regularly bring in top level BJJ black belts for seminars. These are the least expensive seminars you will ever attend. The ownership keeps everything affordable and fun. I have never had an issue with the payment service. I had to take 5 months off due to an injury and they froze my account with one phone call and unfroze it 5 months later with another single call.
After training at the Los Angeles Headquarters and training here, I have to say this place keeps up with the National Training Center. I am easily able to go in and out of each facility with ease. The teachers at Charleston Krav Maga are qualified professionals, and their jiu jitsu program is top notch.
Charleston Krav Maga is staffed with professionals that have created a welcoming atmosphere for the beginner right up to the experienced. After the first initial visits, you quickly start feeling like part of a family. Your not just a number, everyone knows everyone. Everyone also helps out whenever possible. Being a military member, you know the importance of this after having to deploy and walking right back into the family. The experience my wife and daughter had through their ladies training program left both of them with more confidence in the ability to protect themselves.
I applaud your community involvement in the various programs, local police departments, and your military program with the Air Force Base. True Professionals. Best in the Business.
Keep us Fit To Fight!
I love the gym. Classes are great and Lowcountry Strength rocks. I am certainly improving my fitness and self-esteem with both Krav and BJJ. I've been lifting in the back and everyone back there is friendly and inclusive.
The woman at the front desk, though…needs to work on her communication skills. Her body language, comments about classes and her overall demeanor really bring me down every time I am coming or leaving.
Its a great gym to workout, however their was just this one time when I toll a instructor if he could be my sparring partner and his response was "I cant because I have a class to teach", and I am the class as well as part of it. Charleston Krav Maga is dedicated to a class but needs more dedication to every student individually to know their strengths and challenges.
