Amazing instructors! They're truly focused on building the right culture and atmosphere for a great student experience.
I signed my daughters up, I was kind of timid of how they would participate but amongst my own feelings they have flourished! They love it and practice everyday. Mr. Dees and Ms. Lyon are absolutely wonderful teachers and engage with my children and all their other students throughout the class. I’m so glad I did this for my girls! The teachers also welcome the parents in and ask about anything they can help with which is amazing in itself! I just recently had my girls bday party there and it was so fun! This is the place to be people!!!
I originally signed my kiddos up for martial arts, however, they have a family plan, now we are participate. The instructors are knowledgeable and great at explaining the steps so they’re easy to understand. I love that the instructors also encourage the kids to make positive life choices and well as highlighting actions taken before, during or after class. It forces you to think and teaches discipline. Overall, 10/10 recommend. I can’t say enough positive things about this place. Definitely worth it though!
The staff are professional yet fun. All three of our kids are in class and they love it. It’s obvious that the staff truly enjoy investing in the kids. Highly recommend it as a routine family activity.
My son always enjoys his time here. He is 5 years old so getting the little ones to pay attention has always been a challenge, however, this martial arts class does it with so much ease. The instructors are very attentive, welcoming, and involved which makes it just as exciting for myself as a parent as it is for my little guy. This is one of the best parts in his week because he loves learning but also the great environment. He's been previously enrolled in 2 other martial arts schools and this is by far the best.
The instructors, Ms. Lyon & Mr. Dees, are phenomenal. They keep the students engaged and are always encouraging them. The curriculum is excellent and the scheduling is very accommodating/flexible. This isn't what you would consider a "normal" Karate dojo. All the normal things are there (i.e. katas, self-respect, self-discipline, manners, etc.). But, the instructors really make this place great and are active competitors in Kickboxing/Karate. Their school also has competition and sparring times.
We’ve been going to CFMA since the Spring. Mr. Dees and Ms. Lyon are excellent with all 3 of my children (ages 4, 6, & 9). I appreciate that it is the same instructors every class (not always true at other dojos) and that we have so many time slots to choose from. Both instructors are skilled at teaching a full class, but keeping it personal. My kids love going and are always asking to attend the extra events, like Parents Night Out. We are very thankful to have found such a grounded karate dojo for the entire family!
Charleston Family Martial Arts is an awesome place to learn martial arts. Ms. Lyon and Mr. Dee’s are great instructors and have created a positive learning environment. Our 10 year old son loves going to class and working on the wavemaster, he loves it so much he made us buy one so he can practice at home. I would definitely recommend CFMA to anyone looking to learn martial arts.

Love it here! We tried another place prior but once we tried out CFMA we were hooked! It’s all because of Ms. Lyon + Mr. Dees. They have set up an amazing environment and are exceptional teachers and role models. My daughters are learning valuable life skills, healthy habits, gaining confidence, and having fun while doing it. I’ve even joined into the class and it's super fun...we now have a new family hobby! I love how the classes include both parents and kids / teens so that everyone can learn alongside each other. Best decision of 2024 was joining this karate fam!

Started my kids here a few months back and the change in their behavior and respect level is incredible. Have great instructors here who really know how to communicate with all different types of personalities, I have so much respect for what they do. Thank you Ms.Lyons and Mr.Dees
Our son loves it here. He looks forward to going everyday he has class. Ms.Lyon and Mr. Dees are great, talented and knowledgeable instructors that pay attention to all of their students. Would recommend them to anyone looking to learn karate!
My husband and two teenage boys have had such a great experience here. They started in January 2023. With some previous karate experience, Mr. Dees and Miss Lyon have been so helpful in working with my family’s previous karate experience and this new journey (hopefully my husband’s second black belt and my boys’ first black belt). They are committed to great customer service, getting to know us, and clearly communicating what’s necessary to be successful in class with the curriculum requirements. It’s a great place to meet others, get some good fitness in, and set/meet goals. The classes are mixed ages, which is great as my husband and boys can take classes together. Mr. Dees and Miss Lyon are both wonderful instructors, and I would highly recommend this dojo!

Mr. Dees and Ms. Lyons are not just great karate instructors, but great people too. As a martial artist of many years, I am learning new techniques and enjoying every class. I enrolled my daughters in karate here as well and they love every minute of it. If you are looking for a new dojo or just want to try something new, give Charleston Family Martial Arts a shot. They are definitely worth it.
Knowledgeable instructors that teaches life long lessons. Able to instruct so kids of all ages understand. My daughter loves coming to practice and learning new martial art techniques.
We love this class. Not only do we get detailed instruction on the correct way to kick or punch, we are also given words of wisdom! How and why we need discipline, being respectful, having confidence and great attitude!

I've had experience with a few studios over the years, and Charleston Family Martial Arts is my favorite. I highly recommend this dojo for all ages! My entire family attends each week and it's a consistently great experience. Not only are Miss Lyon and Mr Dees fantastic instructors, but we've met so many other like-minded families. We're very grateful to have Charleston Family Martial Arts as part of our community.

Promotes a lot of core values important in becoming a respectable person. In my experience it is great place for father and son bonding while learning how to protect yourself. I am very happy with our decision to train here.
We recently joined Charleston Family Martial Arts, we were all welcomed in and immediately treated like family. Our children are always so excited to go and we are so happy we picked them to teach us karate.

We checked around to several martial arts studios in the area and this one by far exceeded our expectations. The instructors are so encouraging and kind to the kids. It was so good to see the instructors participate in the directed activities instead of barking orders. My youngest (6) was very nervous and started to cry through her first class but one of the instructors came right over and worked one on one with her until she was comfortable. Top notch! So happy with this studio!
Martial arts is a great way to build both physical and mental health, finding a dojo with awesome instructors who are knowledgeable and passionate about it keeps it fun and inviting for all. Highly recommend checking them out!
Ms Lyon and Mr Dees are fantastic karate instructors. They are great with all ages from the littlest of the kiddos to the adults. So happy to be a part of the Charleston Family Martial Arts family. It truly is a family atmosphere.
A great program with amazing instructors! They teach more than just the moves and form. They’re building up confidence and character in their students. My 6 year old is loving his experience and I am too!
My kids love learning martial arts here! The instructors, Mr. Dees and Ms. Lyon are incredibly helpful and motivate the kids to not only have martial art skills, but also social skills and self control. Their goal is to earn their black belts!

If you are looking for a new Martial Arts family to become a part of it's hard to beat Charleston Family Martial Arts! Mr. Dees and Ms. Lyons are both fantastic in their genuine dedication to their students. They both have this awesome charisma that radiates out into their teaching styles and makes each class feel more like a big family gathering of brothers and sisters. Kudos to you both for starting this business up in our area (You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great! - Zig Zaglar) But you guys are already great in my books - YOU ARE SOMEBODY!
