I am deeply grateful for this school. Cassio and his family have created a community that supports a healthy learning environment. As a woman in this school I have always felt safe and well respected in this predominantly male art. The school is very much set up to be inclusive. There are a great deal of those training and devoting their time towards competing as well as those who can make it in a few times a week between work and family. The age range spans from littles in the kids classes to those in their 60’s. Again, I am deeply grateful for all the personal growth that I have gained from this art, as well as the learning process and sense of community this school has afforded me. 🥋🙇♀️🙏🏻
I love this place. It's my home away from home. Great atmosphere, and high level training. The current location is large enough that there are often two classes taking place at the same time. The mats are elevated on foam block adding an extra layer of protection from falls. Store front had lots of windows for good natural light. I personally teach the kids Gi class, and the 6:30AM classes on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Trained here while working in the area and I have nothing but good to say about it. Very professional and very to the point. Left this gym with a new trick to take back home too which is always nice. Side note, there was a bunch of highly skilled women in there as well so if you have your wife with you or are a woman looking for a gym there's definitely plenty to roll with here 🤘🏽 Til next time
Cassio Werneck's Gym doesn't feel like a gym to me. It feels like my home away from home. I have been going since 2012. I couldn't imagine training anywhere else, nor would I. The atmosphere here is 2nd to none. If you're looking to try something new, Jiu Jitsu is the single most powerful hobby, that will eventually be turned into a lifestyle. The hardest part is getting off the couch, and once you do get off the couch it will be Soley used for resting your body in-between training sessions Vs. the complacency you were once in. Forca e Horna. Please if you find yourself in the northern California, visit this gym. You will thank yourself in due time and test.

I have been coming here for three months and regret not coming sooner! Cassio is one of the most humble guys I've met and this trickles down to all his students, from the black belts all the way down to the white belts. The students aren't out to hurt anybody. If anything, they will go out of their way to help you. Sometimes I feel like I'm getting a private lesson every time I roll because a colored belt will explain some of the moves they do. If you're looking to get in shape and lose a few lbs, this is the place. If you're looking to compete, there are many students, including Cassio himself, that compete at the highest level and in the biggest BJJ tournaments in the world. If you're looking for a new hobby, give BJJ a try. If you're afraid you are too old, I'm a 54 year old white belt and there are a few of us on the mats rolling. If you feel like you're too out of shape to try BJJ, you WILL get in shape doing BJJ because you will be drenched in sweat after every class sucking wind. Many people I've talked to have lost an average of 3o lbs in 2 years. I've lost 15 lbs in 3 months. Come on by and check it out and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
Best academy in Sacramento! Was looking for a school for myself and family to compete. The only academy where the professor has won an Adult World Championship and endless amount of accolades seemed to be the best fit. Best instruction Hands down!
I started training at Cassio Werneck's back in 2021, and it has been one of the greatest experiences and privileges of my life thus far. Fantastic instruction, amazing and friendly students, multiple classes per day to accommodate any schedule. Don't even consider other instructors in the area if he's close to you, or you're serious about learning from the best - most Sacramento-area black belts got theirs from him. Come to the source of Sacramento's jiu jitsu knowledge and experience it first-hand.

Cassio's is my place of peace. Cassio has created an environment of respect, honor, humility, friendship and family. It's because of this the people of this gym go above and beyond to support each other in and outside the gym. My wife recently past away and I don't know what I would have done without out my second family. There is even no meathead mentality here that is needed to produce world champions everthing is laid back and the instruction of thorough techniques takes care of producing champs on its own. The Instructors here focus on the small details of the techniques that can get over looked elsewhere. I know this because I started my training at another gym before coming to Cassio's. I trained at the other gym for about 3 years and have been with Cassio for about 12. The techniques taught here are taught not only with small details but are taught in a way that the can be made to work for anyone no matter what their body type is or their athletic abilities are. I’ve been going to Werneck for almost 7 years off and on. The training is great, I always learn something when I’m paying attention. When I don’t someone will help me. Everyone here is very respectful, friendly, and always looking out for one another, feels like family.
Came to train at Cassio Werneck BJJ back in February. I instantly fell in love. Cassio is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions. Cassio is very invested in all his students from day one white belts to black belts, he goes around and makes sure everyone is practicing the technique correctly. On top of all the great knowledge and teaching, everyone there is very nice and welcoming. If you are coming for your first time or have been training for years and looking for a new school Cassio is at the top of the list to come try out.

A lot of good encouragement but no pressure to sign up for tournaments. I have really enjoyed my time training here over the last few months, as someone who took a bit of time off and on with jujitsu over the last few years, I find that this school really helps motivate me to being more consistent and repair my strategy/game. I trained here for over two years when I lived in Davis. Cassio cultivates a great atmosphere for training and clearly cares about teaching. I appreciated learning detailed techniques from a world-class instructor. The gym is filled with great training partners and many upper belts who help everyone out. Overall it was the best gym I've trained at. It was well worth the ~35 minute drive from Davis.

Started training here last year and I am very happy with my choice. The level of instruction is incredible. Learning from a world champ means you are getting world class training. Cassio’s other instructors embody his beliefs and teaching styles and provide outstanding instruction. His students are friendly and encouraging. Haven’t experienced any bad egos here. The place is clean as well. Come give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
This school is incredible. Everyone at the school has that "Cassio family" vibe... So welcoming and encouraging. When I started Jiu-jitsu I never planned on competing, but under Cassio and his instructors' coaching I was able to feel prepared and eventually compete at World's. That was a life experience that would have never happened without this school.
I have been attending Cassio Werneck 's school for the past 3.5 years. Walking into the school is like seeing family members. As soon as I enter the doors, a big smile comes across my face. The training I receive is incredible. There are many great instructors which leads to having many available classes throughout the day. If you want to train No Gi or Gi, you have your options and you can train both on the same day. When the instructors go over the particular move, they ensure that everybody understands the move. There is a warm and safe culture that has been set up by Cassio that transcends to all of his instructors and then transcends to the students. We take care of each other.
When I decided to move to Sacramento in 2003, I asked my then instructor in San Jose, Garth Taylor, if he knew of a good school in Sacramento. Garth said to go straight to Cassio. I did and had been training under Cassio for nearly 20 years. Cassio is there for his students, and he created a culture of BJJ as a lifestyle. We have many people who compete, but the classes focus on people who train Jiu-Jitsu as a lifestyle. I look forward to class after a hard workday and a hard work week. It is a place to re-energize mentally by training with good people, people I've known for over ten years, and new people who just started. Cassio created a safe and supportive environment to train us older part-timers and provide opportunities to learn the latest techniques for those who compete and train every day. If you are looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, there is no other place to go around. This is a great gym. The people that go to this gym have a family culture in place. Everyone is friendly, kind and respectful. The instructors have a keen eye for details and are always on point giving feedback on how to perform the techniques. I have heard of people making life long friendships here and I hope to keep coming and caring on the comrade spirit and kindness forward.

Recently started coming here and about 4 classes in. My good friend Jack has been coming here for many years and he invited me to come get back into martial arts as I used to train many years ago in kickboxing, Taekwondo and a brief amount of BJJ. So glad to be back into it and very happy with my experience so far. Many flexable class times to choice from and everyone there have been super helpful. Not to mention it is a incredible workout. Originally planned to come a couple time a week and find myself starting to go a couple times a day!

I have been going to Cassio's for 3 weeks now. I have to say Cassio is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had the privilege to train under. He is very approachable. He takes the time to show the moves and explain them to his students. A very humble person and a world class martial artist. His senior students are also very helpful and willing to teach and explain things to new people. I can not recommend this place enough. I am hooked and you will be too if you try it out.

I'm sure the place is excellent for learning BJJ. But this place is hard to contact for asking some questions and knowing the monthly rates. I'm looking to join BJJ for the first time. I would like to know some information before jumping into it. I've reached out to the place four time through emails and phone calls, but I haven't received any response yet. It's been almost two months now, and I find it unprofessional that they haven't even bothered to reply to a potential customer. Just so you know, this is the only BJJ that hasn't responded to my inquiries.
