Outstanding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School in Stamford, CT!
I have the pleasure of training at the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school in Stamford, CT, led by the exceptional Professor Cesar Pereira. With over 30 years of experience and training under the renowned Gracies family and Master Cassio Cardoso, this school provides an unparalleled learning environment.
First and foremost, the cleanliness of the gym is truly impressive. The facilities are immaculately maintained, reflecting a strong commitment to hygiene and creating a safe training environment. It's evident that the staff takes great pride in upholding high standards in this regard.
What sets this school apart is its remarkable culture. The atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive, fostering a sense of camaraderie among students. Professor Cesar Pereira's expertise and dedication to teaching ensure that each class is a valuable learning experience. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, the instruction provided is top-notch.
Not only does this school focus on self-defense techniques, but it also offers an excellent opportunity to get in shape. The rigorous training sessions challenge both the body and mind, helping students develop strength, agility, and mental resilience. Moreover, the positive and supportive community in the gym makes the journey enjoyable and rewarding.
I highly recommend it!!!
I have nothing but good things to say about training at Carlson Gracie in Stamford. As a busy middle-aged father of 2 with a demanding career, training with Cesar has been as amazingly positive addition to my life. I am able to keep my body strong, socialize with a great group of people and spend time studying an infinitely complex art form. I honestly could not ask for a better return on invested time and effort than what Cesar has provided over the last few years.
I cannot say enough good things about Carlson Gracie's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! My son Donovan joined when he was just 4 years old, and he has been absolutely thriving under the guidance of the owner/coach Cesar and Coach Raphael. Their dedication and care have made Donovan's experience truly exceptional.
From day one, Coach Cesar has been instrumental in Donovan's progress. He has been incredibly helpful and patient, ensuring that Donovan feels comfortable and supported in every step of his Jiu-Jitsu journey. As a parent, it's reassuring to witness such a nurturing environment for my child.
Coach Raphael's one-on-one sessions with Donovan have been invaluable. Starting with practicing forms on dummies/ mannequins, Raphael built Donovan up until he was eager to try his techniques on other students. It's clear that Coach Raphael takes personal interest in each child's growth and development.
What sets these coaches apart is their unique ability to instill confidence in young practitioners. They never fail to offer encouraging words and praise when Donovan executes a move well, boosting his self-esteem. On the other hand, when he needs help, they take the time to explain patiently, making sure he understands and feels supported in his learning journey.
I highly recommend Carlson Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Stamford for any parent looking to introduce their child to the world of martial arts. The sense of community and the dedication of the coaches have made this an enriching experience for our family.
Thank you, Coach Cesar, Coach Raphael & staff for making a positive impact on my son's life! We are forever grateful.
I’ve studied martial arts for roughly 30 years and have seen a lot of what’s out there in terms of good/bad schools.
My experience here has been one of the best.
I’m a new BJJ student; about 3-months in. My son also takes the kids classes...and I only have positive things to say.
Cesar is everything a martial arts teacher should be - skilled, knowledgeable, hands-on, strict when needed, respectful…. all with a great sense of humor. And each student I’ve met, no matter their rank reflects that same mentality.
As someone who’s brand new to BJJ, things can be a little intimidating, especially at my older age. But Cesar and other students patiently work [with everyone] through the learning process. Same applies to the kids’ classes.
That said, the classes are tough. Controlled and safe, but tough – as they should be. So if you train here, expect a workout!
As far as the facility itself goes, it’s a great space. Clean, spacious, very well-run. Very easy to get to with plenty of parking.
5 stars all the way!
Cesar Pereira (5th Degree Black Belt) could be your BJJ Professor.
Professor Cesar is an excellent teacher with a wealth of knowledge, who studied under Master Carlson Gracie in Brazil and has dedicated his life to the gentle art. He focuses on technique, details, and discipline, and truly cares about his students and their safety. The environment is clean, welcoming, and safe and the people are friendly, fun, and humble, yet there are many tough teammates of all sizes and abilities that you'll be able to train with.
At Cesar's, you'll learn self-defense, make new friends, and gain confidence, strength and conditioning in the process. Even if I have a horrible day, I always feel better after class. I only wish I started training sooner... Thank you, Professor! OSS!!
Cesar is an awesome instructor! He loves what he does and is very knowledgeable and patient. His breakdowns of drills/techniques is unmatched. Joining this school was simply the best decision I’ve made this year.
Overall this school is simply the best in the area! I joined because I was looking for something different aside from running and lifting. Little did I know it would become a greater part of my life and I would make friends as well!
Training here with Cesar has been incredible! I have been training here for about a year and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The community welcomed me with open arms. If you are looking to learn jujitsu, this is the best spot!!
Great gym for both adults and children. Great staff and an great gym culture! If you are looking to learn “the gentle art” definitely check this place out OSS
Great space, clean, open, nice mats. Safe location, lots of parking. Respectful professor and friendly students. Meets covid safety protocol (hand sanitizer, masks, airflow ect). What more to say ... Highly recommendable.
Been coming to Cesar Pereira’s BJJ gym for a year and change now, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. BJJ will teach you how to fight/defend yourself + it’s an insanely good workout. No one here is a meathead that will try to embarrass you and I’ve made some great friends here. Give it a try!
Cesar is not only an expert but he’s also professional, i’ve been coming here for a few months now and you could really notice things just by taking a look around, the kids during kids classes are all smiling and playing while learning this valuable self defense tool, the adult classes are fun and always plentiful in sparring partners. Everyone’s body is different and Cesar always teaches multiple ways of the same movement for each individual to never be left out of techniques. The facility is always clean spotless no dirt or grime and most importantly everyone is really friendly and nice you’re bound to make friends here
I love training here, they welcomed me to the family with open arms. Even during this crazy times they do everything they can to keep us safe. I encourage anyone that is thinking about training bjj to check our gym out. Oss
This Academy is one of the most welcoming and safest environments I have ever been in; especially now during such uncertain times. Following the mandatory closing, the soft reopening of the academy under the strict guidelines of the CDC, Federal, State & Local authorities compounded even further by the "in house" rules & requirements make this academy one of the best in the business. I began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 17 years ago; my cousin, Brian Punger is a 2nd Degree, Black Belt instructor on Long Island, my brother holds the rank of Brown Belt & my nephew holds the rank of Grey Belt as well. This experience, along with how close to the heart both my family and I hold this martial art, echoes the recommendation, that this academy is nothing short of World Class. Masks are required, temperature checks prior to entrance, limited contact, social distancing, multiple sterilization cleanings per day and limited attendance and schedule are just some of the complete measures to make this facility a safe environment to attend during these uncertain times. Professor Cesar Pereira, 5th Degree Black Belt under Master Carlson Gracie Jr. is an exemplary Profesor; teaching not only the gentle art but the guiding principles that enable Jiu Jitsu to be a way of life. I highly recommend this academy to anyone new or old in the sport and art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
I have always been into some sort of athletics and had just finished my 10th year doing triathlons and needed a break. The day after running my final NYC marathon, I signed up for the introductory class with Cesar at Carlson Gracie BJJ Team in Stamford. I was welcomed in among the higher belts at the class and they took their time with me. They didn't try to humiliate me or prove their ego. After the first class, I was extremely tired, and it was only an hour class. After doing multiple Ironman competitions for over 10 hours each (obviously not an elite), a 1 hour class whooped me. I was pretty much hooked at the first class.
BJJ is about patience, skill, technique, athleticism, and support. Cesar and the team have always had the best interest of the team and the individual as the foremost staple. The introduction is always positive and effective. The gym and facility is always clean with lockers, plenty of room, and cleaning stations abound.
If you're looking for a great workout, discipline, and self-defense, with excellent instruction, clean environment, and plenty of teammates that will have your back (quite literally), come on down to Carlson Gracie Team and meet with Cesar.
I’ve studied martial arts for over 10 years, so I know a great instructor when I see one. Cesar is an amazing instructor and I am truly grateful for being one of his students. I started training 3 years ago and it’s easily been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe environment where you’ll get in shape AND become a better person, this is the place to go!!!
From a woman's perspective, knowing self-defense is imperative these days. When I was searching for a reliable school I came across Cesar's gym. Since my very first class, I felt like I joined this BIG FAMILY. Very respectful, professional and knowledgeable. Cesar has this particular way of caring for his students, from the kids to the adults. He is like our second father I would say.. our "paizao", and when COVID hit, he immediately took the most preventive measures (following the CT Guidelines) to ENSURE a SAFER ENVIRONMENT to all of us. This month of October, I am celebrating my 2 year anniversary with my BJJ Family and I couldn't be any HAPPIER!!!! I can't THANK YOU enough Cesar for all you do for us. Oss!!!!
Simply the best....I've been training for about 3.5 months, and about 5x a week now. I just cant get enough. I come from a very athletic background playing multiple sports in high school, and even playing lacrosse in college. However I was looking for something new, something challanging. Then, I found Cesar. He is truley one of the best around. The breakdown of the drills in training is noncompairable, also the effort he puts in and the pasion he has for the art. Joining the gym was one of the best decisions I have ever made for my personal health, and life! Finally the atmosphere is great, Ive made some great friends along the way that support, guide and are with you all the way. Truley humbling.
I have been training for 1 year now. I decided to come by for a few classes while I was home for the holidays, visiting from out of town. They welcomed me with open arms and a very comfortable setting. The professor is extremely knowledgeable and has a profound respect for all his students. I had an amazing experience and it deserves my highest recommendation. When I am in the area next, I will definitely visit again
Dropped into a class as was in town on a business trip, very welcoming staff and great group of students. Highly recommend checking out the gym for anyone passing through or looking to begin BJJ.
A great place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for any level. Professor Cesar Pereira is an excellent teacher with a wealth of knowledge and attention to detail. Everyone there is friendly and always willing to help which makes it a great learning environment.
Really wanted to like this place, and the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because they actually called me back, and the guy on the phone was really nice. That being said, I had called them around 5pm on a Friday and no one answered, so I hung up. They must have used their caller id to call me back. Fine, I like the initiative.
Very nice on the phone but he said he just "answers phones and sets up the intro classes". I asked about class times and monthly, weekly, or per class cost. Is there a package you buy? etc? They said, "come in for your free class then we can discuss price". That seemed a bit shady to me, why can't they mention price on the phone? I don't have time to take intro classes to come in and find out that it might be too expensive for what I'd like to pay. It would be a waste of everyone's time.
Can't speak about the school at all, just my experience in trying to get information from them.
