  So from the beginning, this gym is the one that got me into BJJ, my experiences have been ups and downs; different gyms, different communities and personalities, but every single time I come back, I always look forward to it, the one that started it all for me. The reason why though is due to how amiable and respectful they are, and each and every student cares about each other. The moment you step into this gym you can expect to be welcomed with friendliness. Nobody here has anything to prove to anyone except themselves. Aside from this, every student in the gym strives for excellence, and the professors are exceptionally skilled and just as skilled teachers. They provide some of the best tips and answers to questions you ask and break it down with extremely detailed instructions to help you understand anything that might be difficult. I would recommend this school on top of any other school in Miami, and I’ve been to 90% of them. If you want an amazing community and learn some of the best BJJ, potentially compete and win, or to strive for YOUR personal growth, you’ve found your school.

  This place is top notch, highly recommend. If you have a high energy rambunctious child. Jiu Jitsu is a great way and outlet to channel that energy. The instructors are patient and assertive with direction, teaching a great foundation of accountability and control. Our 5-year old loves it!

  My 5-year-old started classes recently and LOVES going to class. The class moves at a great pace for kids and the teachers do a great job of giving each child individual attention throughout the lesson. They are also great at making the class fun, while still maintaining a focused environment. The facility is clean and parents can watch the class on the side, which I love. So far, amazing experience!

  I was recently in town on a trip and was lucky enough to be able to visit Carlson Gracie Miami. The only way to describe my visit was amazing! I instantly felt welcomed by positive vibes and good energy from everyone in the room.   We enrolled our son the moment he turned 4 and it has been an exceptional experience so far. I have seen my son become more confident and social with the other kids. The instructors are all very patient with the kids. It is refreshing to have my son join a jiu jitsu family that makes him excited to coming to every class. So much so that he asks us everyday if he has class and is very excited to talk to his friends and cousins about jiu jitsu. I look forward to seeing his evolvement and growth with the Carlton Gracie Miami team.

  My thoughts on Carlson Gracie Miami. I find the training at Carlson Gracie Miami (CGM) to be excellent, if not exceptional. Several present and former students at the gym have earned gold medals in national and international competition, including the renowned International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (IBJJF) Worlds. In this regard alone, the training at CGM is world class. There are seasoned competitors, students who have been training in several different martial arts for years (yours truly) and fresh, new students and children with entirely new perspectives. The classes are well structured, progressive, and reviewed on a weekly basis. I have known Michelle Porfirio, affectionately known as Buiu since 2013. I have been more than impressed with his knowledge base, his ability to relay his knowledge, and his ability to connect with people. Over the last 30 years, he has garnered accolades that demonstrate his skill and attest to his dedication to the practice and teaching of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). I also offer that he is a compassionate and effective communicator in his teaching style with an attention to detail that I highly value. Head instructor, Jose Pita is a superb instructor of adults and children alike. His calm, welcoming energy and vast fund of knowledge is an asset to all the students. Still active in competition, he has much to offer both cautious beginners and seasoned competitors alike. It is a pleasure training and learning from him. Likewise, Professor Jacob is a thorough, patient, instructor with experience in competitive BJJ and MMA. All the instructors have varying perspectives that help one create their own style and expand on their set of skills. The feeling I get at CGM is one of family, home and camaraderie. I have studied and practiced martial arts for over 30 years, ten years in BJJ alone. It is very welcoming to step into a dojo (gym) with a group of students that spread a good combination of competitive spirit and readiness to share knowledge. It is a joy to watch the natural evolution of students from eager, sometimes frenzied beginners, to patient, well-practiced veterans receiving their advancing belts. Likewise, parents watch their children grow from ebullient tornadoes to skilled, confident, seasoned competitors. I would offer BJJ highly for parents who feel their children need a healthy release of energy. There is no attention deficit, nor hyperactivity at the end of a hard training session. Whether you are a beginner wanting to learn self-defense through martial arts, in need of exercise for health improvement, confidence, and stress management, an experienced martial artist, or a parent, I highly recommend BJJ Carlson Gracie Miami.

  Carlson Gracie Miami has been a breath of fresh air. Before making my way to Carlson Gracie Miami I shopped around and tried two different jiu jitsu dojos and 1 I just felt wasn’t concerned to the attention to detail. The other made me feel like asking a question was interrupting the class. Here at Carlson Gracie when an instructor is demonstrating you can ask as many questions as you want and you won’t be embarrassed and then you have so many others who are there willing to give a helping hand as well. From the moment you walk i. You are welcomed as if you are family. Everyone greets you. Everyone asks if you need anything. When you’re in the mays there is no ego amongst anyone. The instructors make it known that if you’re a higher belt or more experienced you take care of the women and white belts. They let it be known if you want to go all out to come find a brown or black belt but not taken it out on the white belts or women. When you go with a higher belt they know how to make you work for while also helping you build confidence while also teaching you cause it’s also how they get better as well. I recommend Carlson Gracie Miami for anyone and everyone. You won’t regret it.

  I am a student at this dojo and when i first wlked in i was iky about this place the first 2 people that i met were yoel and chris they are the ones that showed me evreything they were nice and funny people than i met my three profecors bujiu pita and jacob they are very nice people they train hard for good reward ive been there 1 year am a yellow belt and evreyday i step in that dojo i get confuced witch one is my home my dojo ory actual home because i am treated so well there i feel like that is my familly

  What a great experience training at Carlson Gracie Miami! I own a Daniel Wanderley & Carlson Gracie affiliated gym in Appleton, Wisconsin. Me and my girlfriend were here for a vacation in Miami Beach. We took a 40 minute Lyft to train and it was amazing! We did not bring a Gi as we thought it was No-Gi class but the instructors were so kind to lend us a loaner Gi so we could train. They treated us like extended family and the students were the same way. All very technical and very kind. The Professor taught an amazing class! If you live in the area or are visiting, you must train here! Great vibes and great Jiu Jitsu!

I was so impressed with the humility, humanity, and EXTENSIVE knowledge of the instructors, especially Professor Buiu, I switched my academy’s affiliation to Professor Buiu’s Ghost Squad. Professor Buiu is the type of man I want my sons to grow up to be . Don’t let his humility and lack of high pressure sales let you go to the wrong place.

What can i say about Professor Buiu (Michel Porfirio Pereira) He has been a friend, a brother and a father figure to me. His guidance on and off the mat is exceptional. He is not only an amazing professor but he is there for you when ever you need him. The environment at the academy is family and friendly, clean and safe and the moment you walk in you will notice everyone is polite and kind, dont forget the training is amazing.   My family and I have been training here for many years and have had nothing but positive experiences and excellent training sessions. Forget all the reviews- many good and very few bad. Come see for yourself and you'll find a place that is clean, respectful, family friendly, and inviting. This school offers conditioning classes, traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, nogi grappling, wrestling and more. Don't let a couple of disgruntled reviewers from fake profiles leave an ounce of doubt that this is an incredible place to train. I live near many schools (Gracie Barra is literally a short walk from my house), and have trained in several other prominent schools, but this is the place my family and I choose to call home. But I found a whole lot more. The education is top notch led by Professor Buiu, who also creates an environment of friendship, camaraderie, and laughter. The drill/techniques of the day are challenging. The sky is the limit to how far you want to take your Jiu-Jitsu. If your seeking BJJ competition, MMA, or just training for your own personal practice, Buiu’s Ghost squad can train you. Kids, teens, working professionals, yep, we do that too.   Can’t speak for anyone else but myself but, I absolutely love coming here Monday - Friday. With all the stress and obstacles life throws my way for 1 hour a day this is a place where all your worries fade and you are surrounded with positive, well-mannered, genuine people. From the professor himself to the parents on the sidelines. I’ve been coming since October 1st, 2017 and I’ve invited friends and family to check it out and they all love it.

  I never have time. I've got a family and a demanding job. I'm on a budget. Never been a UFC or boxing guy or history buff on martial arts . I may have some other excuses not go but I still upa the lazy to drill platas, locks and chokes at this place on an oss average of 3 times a week.

  This dojo is something special. I joined 2 years ago and it was one of the beat decisions ive ever made. What Prof. Buiu and Julie have built is wonderful. One of the many things Prof Buiu preaches is that one isn’t favored than the other. Whether you compete regularly, train to loose weight, train to bring fulfilment etc Prof buiu will give you 110% to each and everyone of his students! The dojo has some high level competitors that help everyone without being asked, its amazing that they anticipate it and that’s what Buiu has created within the team, is integrity and humility. Egos are something you never have to worry about, everyone that trains there need you to come everyday! Ive seen our dojo and it’s people do things for others that are remarkable.   I have been fortunate enough to get to train at Carlson Gracie Miami as well as attend multiple seminars from Professor Buiu. The facility at CGM is very clean, open, has lots of mat space but most of all it's extremely welcoming. The technical skills I have picked up during my training with Professor Buiu and his students have been invaluable to my growth. Professer Buiu teaches in a way that allows you to evolve in which ever direction you want to go because it is based in sound fundamentals. Jiu Jitsu aside, Professor Buiu works very hard to make everyone around him feel like they are his most important student, friend, training partner,etc. Despite the relative ease of which he seems to do this, I can only imagine it is a skill that he has honed over many years with very deliberate focus. This is a quality that is not easily found today and is something I try to emulate. If I lived in Southern Florida there is no chance I'd train anywhere else.

  From day one that i have been through the doors at Carlson Gracie Miami and been around the Ghost Squad family its been a great experience. Professor Buiu and the staff have been always welcoming, supportive and encouraging. Never had a problem asking for help from Professor Buiu or any of the knowledgeable multiple black belts and skillful lower belts. The environment is nothing that I have experienced before, absolutely wonderful. I have never been the fighting type and I never thought getting arm barred or choked would be so humbling and fun at the same time. Great place, if you have never been here YOU HAVE NOOOOO IDEA.

  One of the best BJJ schools/dojo’s in south Florida!! Nothing but outstanding! All the way from professor Buiu , to the ladies and gentleman at the front desk. I have to be biased in this review, because I’ve been training with Professor Buiu for 10 years!!! My loyalty to the school and professor Michel Buiu Porfirio, it is due to his leadership, his high level of knowledge in the sport 🥋, his way of teaching, patience with adults and children , positive attitude within the dojo are unique and reason why people stay or come back.

  I took my son, right before he was turning 4, a month later I signed. My son is now almost 12 and we have been training ever since. I have a 1 and half year old daughter who I cant wait to take once she is old enough to train as well. The owners at Carlson Gracie Miami and the entire Ghost Squad are caring, positive and family oriented individuals. I am so happy for the day I stepped in their dojo, my life just hasn't been the same in so many aspects. You can train Jiu Jitsu here just for workout, to learn the art and/or de stress, or to become a World Champion like many at the dojo have done. Regardless, its an awesome environment, master Buiu is extremely knowledgeable and patient, I 10000% recommend it.

  Words can only describe one persons point of view. It’s for the reader to narrate what they read. And when a person reads someone’s words they can usually call BS on the spot. Professor Buiu has been a compassionate, understanding person from the moment I met him. He is always drilling fundamentals and at times separates his class to teach lower skilled and higher skilled students to always keep them on their feet.   I have been training with the Ghost Squad for 2 1/2 years and I could definitely say it has changed my life in several ways. I have inherited a family in this dojo. Professor Buiu and Julie have dedicated their time to creating a place that welcomes people of all backgrounds and goals. If your goal is to lose weight, you got it. If your goal is to learn how to defend yourself, you got it. If your goal is to better your self-confidence, you got it.   Most students have had a touch with athleticism or have been training for years or months, I, on the other hand, had never done a single sport or done a single pushup...and yet now I have a new family, and have stuck to a sport I have been doing for a year. Buiu, along with many other professors, black belts, purple belts, blue belts, and white belts are always willing to give a helping hand with zero judgments. For someone who was never athletic, this dojo has given me a place to start, to train, to work hard and appreciate what the thrill of Jiu-Jitsu can do for your life. I highly recommend any age, body type, gender, or race to try it out. It changed my life forever, and even if you leave or come back you always know Buiu Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team will be waiting for you on the mats for a chance to share a laugh or sweat lol!

  I started doing BJJ in 2009, I have been Under 4 legit Black Belts and Trained in countless schools all around the country & Internationally, I hold 5 No-Gi World Titles & 3 Masters Worlds Titles, Over 20 IBJJF Open Titles, I have Competed with Folks From Japan, Australia, UK, Mexico, Panama, Guam, Among other Countries, I competed at every Worlds Adult From White to Brown, So I feel strongly when I say to you, Training at Carlson Gracie Miami as been the absolute best decision I have made in my Jiu-Jitsu Journey. I travel 40 Mins just to go train there & I pass by schools that have offered me free training and I have declined just because the Ghost Squad House is the Best Option in Miami, FL. Not only for competitors but for the whole family, the experience in this place is Magical, perhaps only because I did trained in other places I can appreciate it more.   I started training there this week and everyone there from white to black belts have been great!! My daughter as been taking classes since February and I watch almost every class. I’ve spent 9 years trying in other martial arts and 7 years teaching. I’m very impressed with my experience here so far. So much so that started taking classes. There’s very respectful family environment here.

  Can't be more please with the quality of the training and teaching, coming from Basico BJJ in DR (great BJJ) and later from the UFC Gym BJJ, I feel that my game, is so much improved, even that I'm so much older now. Awesome couching and training partners in a familiar ambient or a very competitive one, you decide how you want to practice, as they have a competition team, for those who likes the challenges, and a normal fraternity practice for those who looks for self defense or health. I highly recommend this Dojo/Gym.

  I started training at Carlson Gracie Miami under professor Buiu 2 years ago. At the time I had a blue belt but had not really trained for about 5 years. Buiu and the members of the dojo received me with open arms and always a willingness to help me improve. This is a special place with no ego, and no bully mentality that I have seen with my own eyes in many facilities over the years. They take care of everyone like family and continue to extend themselves for their members to this day. Daily stress can be a lot to deal with. Work, Kids, bills, etc...but no matter what I always end my day here on a positive note with positive people.

  For 3 years I have consistently trained at this location and it is hands down the best school in South florida. Michel Porfirio Pereira aka Buiu is an exceptional role model for the children and adults he instructs. A legitimate black belt, with lineage and international recognition from federations such as IBJJF and UAEJJ, is what he ties around his waist. A proven family environment, No politics here, only open doors and egos are left outside in this place of learning, this school participates in charity functions that always incorporate our community for a greater cause. Prices are fair compared to other facilities in the area, Carlson Gracie Miami is open 6 out of 7 days out of the week and running adult classes Monday-Friday both morning and night. They have a variety of affiliation schools in the area as well as out of state like in Colorado and Pennsylvania that you can visit and train. They provide a range of children and teens classes that range from Bjj, to wrestling and conditioning. Self defense is incorporated in to all aspects of training. Competitors, for those willing to prove them selves in that setting, are catered to if need be and with the individuals training here major support is always given, one need only to ask. The ENTIRE staff does their best to keep everyone safe and content from walking in the front door to leaving sweaty, tired and happy.

Professor “Buiu” and the phenomenal instructors they have teach more than just great technique, but also ensuring the Bushido code is instilled in literally every teammate which is very rare to find. Ego’s are left at the door, everyone treats each other like family, and there are multiple world class champions training here everyday. It’s the top dojo dominating the South Florida BJJ community. The teens and kids programs are unparalleled and safety and discipline are of prime focus. It’s like night and day seeing your game improve day by day. I’ve been training at CG miami for only a year and a half, and I can easily say this is the best investment I’ve ever made in my life. This gym, our professor “Buiu”, teammates, and instructors, have helped create so much of my own personal growth and Jiu Jitsu has transcended my life in ways words cannot express. This school prioritizes proper technique to prevent injuries and keep students training consistently. The attention to detail in drilling and rolling really makes it a top school.

  As a mom of 2 boys, business owner, and doctorate student; I have no time to exercise. The family environment and team motivation here is like no other. My oldest son trains and then I train while he plays with his friends. I hate going to the gym and doing BJJ is so much fun that you don’t even realize how much your working out. Not to mention learning great self defense techniques. Love this place and everyone that trains here from the owners, professors, to the parents, and all students.

  I can only describe this school with one word - Home. I have been all around the world and trained with various athletes and this is one of the few places I could call that. The family-type atmosphere, the welcoming greetings from friends the second you walk through the door, and the entertaining lessons by Professor Buiu make this gym one of a kind. This gym is very well taken care of and it shows with how clean the mats, benches, and bathrooms are. The kids are trained with many core values and always look like they want to come back for more. There is so much love that pours out from this gym and you can see it on your first day. Thank you Professor Buiu and everyone that made me feel welcome here at Carlson Gracie Miami.

  I was in Miami this week on holiday and had hoped to call in for a class with Michel (Buiu) and the team from the moment I booked my flights. I called up the day before to check if it was OK to swing by and the reception I got was great. On the morning I attended everybody was cool, the facility was the best I have seen in my short time on the mats, the technique and advice was excellent and the rolls were perfect - safe, intense and I learnt something from each one. The biggest thing that I noticed was the culture instilled in everyone. Even from a one hour class it was obvious to me that Buiu is running a respectful, safe, fun and really enjoyable place for people to learn this beautiful art. I was made so welcome by the guys that I am still smiling today thinking about it, a day and a half later! BJJ continues to keep on giving for me and I can guarantee it will for you too if you get yourself in to the guys here! Oss

  I called the Carlson Gracie Miami academy and spoke the owner Professor Michel "Buiu" Porfirio Pereira. I explained that I would be in Miami for work and asked if it would be possible to train while I was in town. Professor Pereira was super friendly and graciously invited to his academy. When I arrived at the academy I was greeted by Professor Pereira. Just as he was on the phone Professor Pereira was unbelievably friendly and welcomed me into the academy and made me feel at home. The academy has spacious mat space even with the 30 - 40 people in attendance for the night's class, there was plenty of room. Professor Pereira's teaching style is spot on! Professor Pereira broke down the technique he was teaching into easy to understand steps. Ample time was given to train the technique. I could see how he was carefully watching to ensure the technique was being properly performed and was available to answer questions. What was also impressive about Professor Pereira's teaching was the logical progression of the class. The main technique was taught then time was given to train the technique. Professor Pereira then went over a common defense that an opponent is likely to use and provided a counter to the defense. What may even be more impressive than Professor Pereira's teaching is the technical skill's of his students! If you are in the Miami area and interested in learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, look no further than Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu academy.

  This is a top-notch school! I emailed to inquire about dropping in for a class and they got back to me within an hour. The next day I showed up early during the kids class and was immediately impressed by all the eager and very skilled children that were training. Before the adult class began everybody introduced themselves and welcomed me to their school. Once class began it was apparent that the lead instructor Michel Porfirio Pereira was extremely competent and had an uncanny ability to communicate the techniques we would be practicing that evening. After class there was an open-mat that was well paced and friendly. I travel to Miami every couple of weeks for business and I will definitely be training here next time I'm there. Thank you to all the students and instructors. Oss!

  Carlson Gracie Miami is a total dissatisfaction and disappointment of a school! I signed up for the classes hoping for a pleasant experience of learning martial arts but instead got greeted with the complete opposite. The so called Professors never bother to check in on you or help when struggling to learn any move, instead all I’ve been met with is snarky remarks such as “you don’t pay attention” and other stuff such as “I’ve explained this move to this kid so many times and they still can’t get it!?” This one was said by a brown belt as he turned around and murmured to his try hard friends something which is quite common in this Mcdojo of a school. I’ve learned that Carlson Gracie Miami specializes in flexing and in showing off, when in reality everyone is far from being close to a star or a legend. If the terrible teaching if it can even be called teaching, the rude and deteriorating remarks that are made about you, and the lack of seriousness, still doesn’t convince u to NOT choose this joke of a school, the prices will. Don’t waste your time with a school that begs their students to leave them good reviews every day (it’s why they have such high ratings on the internet), instead sign up for classes somewhere else that’s good and that actually cares about the art of Jiu Jitsu, not these fakers and posers :)

  The only hard work I've seen is the efforts to cut out all the family that was once there. Please explain how hard you’ve worked to raise the prices to ridiculous amounts. Then justify it by having inexperienced and unqualified blue belts teach your classes. Followed by the ridiculous fees that people have to pay monthly and each belt ceremony; $80 plus the $40 belt fee if they want to get promoted this Winter Belt Ceremony. Belts should be earned by skill and the depth of character, not by how deep our pockets are. Then there's the spreading of lies and gossip. Although you claim to be a gossip-free dojo, your dojo lives off of gossip. You pressure students to compete and make the once family home into a sports room for your own benefit. In fact, the only people that actually work in that dojo are the students.Their passions and love for the art have enabled you to continue to take advantage, by continuing to pay those ridiculous amounts, then you have the audacity to elevate them. Sir, I think you are completely mistaken as a teacher and practitioner of the art. You take advantage of people for money. This school is no longer a family, it has become a business. You bolster your profit by gouging and draining the people you're supposed to guide and care for. You have lost all sense of what jiujitsu truly is. Jiujitsu is to be enjoyed, to bring everyone together, not only to empower oneself but also teach you to balance, a true art when studied. Nonetheless, there are people who lack the patience and discipline to ever truly begin to grasp what it truly is. Moreover, you claim to be a dojo, but you have lost all integrity. This dojo is not what it used to be, it has devolved into a place that no family can stand, an unfamiliar place. Thank you, have a nice day.
