Ki Aikido is life changing, I went looking for a Yoga class and found a whole lot more. These teachers can give you the essence of all the knowledge from the East in a moment. Body Mind moving together feels great

Practicing aikido and meditation here under MacFarland Sensei has genuinely changed (and probably saved) my life. After many attempts in various places, it was here that I finally learned how to work with my mind and body to take back control my state of mind. As someone neurodivergent with long-term mental health challenges (including severe crises involving depression, anxiety, and psychosis), the tools and support I’ve found here have been transformative. The friendships, sense of community, and opportunities I’ve experienced both in the UK and internationally have been first class. I walked into the dojo feeling broken, staring down the barrel of middle age and convinced I had failed at life. I could never have imagined that just a few years later I’d be a black belt martial artist and genuinely happy in both my personal and professional life. The Ki Society dojo at Brighton Ki Centre has become an essential part of my daily life and I can’t rate it highly enough.

I’ve been practicing Ki Aikido with Sensei MacFarland for many years: he is an excellent, highly committed teacher. I do Ki breathing and meditation daily and this has really helped me manage anxiety in a profound way. Ki aikido has made me a more grounded and focused person. It is challenging at times, but also good fun and I’ve made some great friends at the dojo.

Wow! What an experience. Visited Brighton for a concert at Brighton Ki centre ok Saturday and the spontaneously signed up for Ki aikido on Sunday morning. All completely new to me. Ki has been eye opening and jaw dropping for me. Including the just 5 min Shiatsu exercise during the lesson. A long 'carried' issue in my left shoulder was treated and just vanished. No kidding! I have had intense Thai massages, weeks in a row. Those helped as it loosened it up a bit, however the issue stayed. The Shiatsu approach is fenominal. Unbelievable. I am forever grateful for the mesmorising experience. You created a new Ki Aikido fan Bob! A huge thank you and to my fellow students. You all are truely amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 🫶

I was looking for yoga and the brighton ki society showed me the infinite well of what the mind and body do working as one. Being positive being with Ki changed the way I do everything, how I interact with others and view situations.

I started training Ki Aikido two years ago when I was in university. After moving to London I started to visit the Brighton Ki Centre and their satellite club in London to train. Apart from the more applied aikido techniques, Ki Aikido puts great emphasis on the state of mind, mind and body unification, relaxation, breathing and having a naturally strong posture. This has been extremely helpful for me both in the other martial arts I pursue, where it has greatly improved my ability to remain calm, controlled and balanced, and with my health. I have light scoliosis and working on a computer most day doesn't help with that, but the training and techniques I have learned at the Ki Centre have really greatly helped me to improve my posture and and counter act some of my back problems. The Brighton Ki Centre is an excellent facility with a big, bright dojo, excellent instructors who are really passionate about what they do and have excellent teaching abilities. I have only ever met really nice people here and after coming round two or three times it soon feels like joining a family where everybody helps each other develop. Even if you are unsure (and I certainly was at the beginning), I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone looking to gain better work-life balance, improve their well-being, dealing with stressful situations and conflicts, to give this a try. It will have a positive impact.
