Vlad, Lori, and Nick are the best coaches I could have asked for. They are talented, very knowledgeable, and patient. If you live in the RGV and are passionate about BJJ or Kickboxing, KGA is the place to go. I came from out of state and I didn’t know anyone in The Valley, but they made me feel at home. KGA is a welcoming place and everyone is very friendly and eager to help you improve. The highlight of my week is going to class and learning + working on my technique. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. 10/10 would recommend.

Best well rounded grappling academy in the RGV. No where else can you train BJJ, sambo, wrestling and Judo under one roof. This academy is very family oriented. The head professors will help you reach your goals, whatever that may be! Non-intimidating! I started martial arts at 13 years old and this place still improved my game! Vlad Koulikov is an extraordinary martial arts instructor who transforms Judo and Jiu Jitsu into a philosophy of martial arts. His academy stands out through his precise, detailed breakdown of grappling techniques with incredible patience. No one else has his experience in the RGV. Vlad also tailors instruction to individual student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. The more you put into a dedication of learning and being in the present, the more Vlad will put into you. The gym and students encourage a safe environment for all levels and still challenging no matter where you are at. Multiple students have successfully competed and advanced in regional and national competitions under his guidance. It's a place where people come to learn and leave their ego at the door and excel. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist, Coach Vlad's academy offers world-class instruction that will fundamentally elevate your Judo and Jiu Jitsu skills. Absolutely recommended for anyone serious about martial arts training. 5/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is one of the greatest martial arts schools I have ever been a part of. Coach Vlad is a wonderful instructor who gives the same amount of respect as he demands. He is knowledgeable, and is a gifted instructor. His standards are high, but isn't that what you want from your coach? As both a full time doctoral student and worker, my time is limited and precious. I highly appreciate coach Vlad's punctuality, and efficiency in managing the class. We get more done in an hour than other schools do in 2. Finally, Coach has been nothing but kind to my family and me. I highly recommend KGA.

Coach Lori, Coach Nick and Coach Vlad have extensive experience in what they do, they will always welcome you and make you feel part of the team, each one of the coaches take the right time to make your time with them worthwhile. The place stands out for its cleanliness. All equipment or devices that are used are always in good condition. Great gym for training. Coach Vlad and Coach Mike make it very welcoming and newcomer friendly as I joined their classes. Always respectful of limits but are able to motivate you to push boundaries for the better. From my last time there, you have 13 adult one hour long classes a week you can choose from with No Gi/Gi Jiu Jitsu to kickboxing! Very well worth the money. I plan on returning asap. Personal suggestion: definitely wish I had more cardio training before I enrolled so the initial first classes, very taxing if not fit but no regrets at all.

I was recommended to KGA by a friend and I couldn't be happier with myself for deciding to join this wonderful gym! The community at KGA made it comfortable and encouraged me not to give up. My coaches have been like family, they want to see me succeed and that means the world to me. They are patient, extremally knowledgeable in their expertise and encouraging, which is the most important part to me. The KGA community quickly made me feel like one of their own and any progress I've achieved is all thanks to them. Vlad is a lifelong martial artist who has a wealth of knowledge surrounding various grappling arts. The best part of Vlad's approach is that he is not dogmatic about techniques or styles and he simply goes with what has been proven to work while also constantly workshopping new ideas. His techniques are always on the cutting edge and he is always looking to improve his own skills and evolve as grappling evolves. I would recommended training with Vlald Koulikov to any grappler, new or advanced, who wants to take their grappling knowledge and application to new heights.

The first and last thing you’ll notice during your initial visit to the Koulikov Grappling Academy is how immaculate the gym is. That’s only to be followed by the incredible atmosphere that’s cultivated by Vlad and his students. Vlad’s passion and expertise is reflected in every aspect of his gym. He is an excellent teacher and an inspirational coach, and it shows by the camaraderie and sportsmanship in the team he’s built around him. Regardless if you are just starting or are looking to advance to the next level -Vlad’s unique and individual approach can bring out the natural talent in anyone. If I had to summarize it in one word, “Authentic,” is the first that comes to mind, which is a quality that I believe is a rare-find while searching for a gym.

Vlad is a rarity in this world. Strong, compassionate, humble, honest, genuine, extremely intelligent and very skilled teacher/grappler. I’ve been in Combat Sports for roughly 30 years, and have met all types of martial artists, but only one Vlad. He is a rare combination of many qualities that produce a one of a kind coach. The first time I met, Vlad, I was at ease within 10 seconds of shaking his hand and well on my way to learning what he had to offer because he is able to put me at ease with his demeanor. Very few coaches have the ability to convey their teachings in a way all can understand, and that is Vlad’s specialty. I have since adopted pieces of his teaching style in to my teaching style. On top of that, I have gained a brother and a dear friend. If I could talk him in to moving here and teaching I would do it without hesitation. Vlad Koulikov is a true master of grappling and a superb all-around martial artist as well, having impressive credentials and cross-training in various arts such as sambo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, wrestling and boxing to name a few. His knowledge and skill in both gi and no-gi stand-up and ground grappling are second-to-none; moreover, he is a strong advocate of physical conditioning which he uses to help his students get into top shape. What is more, Vlad is not one to simply sit on the sidelines and direct his students; rather, he is always willing to roll and train with people of all ranks so that everyone may improve. However, in my opinion, it is his passion and ability as a teacher to synthesize and convey information which truly set him apart from other martial arts instructors. You will be hard-pressed to find a teacher who is as down-to-earth, caring, and generous with both his time and resources as Vlad is. If you get a chance to train at his school, do not hesitate!

One of the hardest things to find in a coach is someone who not only has deep expertise but is also a natural teacher. Vlad's ability to fluently describe, assimilate, teach and demonstrate techniques from sambo, BJJ, and judo is exceptional. He has a mastery of the nomenclature and the rulesets that makes it easy for him to field questions and adapt techniques from one discipline to another - the kind of deep technical mastery that comes from decades of experience. I first met Vlad at a seminar in Detroit and was impressed at the ease with which he got even the least capable people in the room safely performing unfamiliar takedowns. Vlad is funny, never condescending, always professional and always interested in helping people who are trying to improve. If you live in the greater NYC area it’s absolutely worth it to make the trip to train with him.

Vladislav Koulikov is an inspirational coach, mentor and friend. I’ve had the pleasure and honor to train with and under him; his knowledge in SAMBO, Judo, BJJ and overall conditioning/physiology is vast and accurate. You might as well direct your martial arts questions to him, it’s faster than typing into your phone’s search bar! Master Koulikov also has a rare quality among accomplished expert martial arts practitioners: he has no biases towards/against styles or systems, only strong opinions about execution and proper practices. This perspective of his carries over into his instruction and insights, which are generally flawless. In short, I absolutely recommend his academy and am basically sad I live so far away from it...

As a Judo black belt, Vlad has opened my eyes to a new world of grappling. He's an excellent instructor and a person to aspire to. No matter your background or skill level, this school is an excellent choice.

An environment with a wealth of knowledge. Coach Vlad has the ‘Triple Crown’ of grappling arts. A Blackbelt in Judo and BJJ and a Master in Sambo. With years of educational training under his belt for children and adults, this Academy is HIGHLY recommended.

Vlad is extremely generous with his vast knowledge of grappling. It is rare to find someone who can both perform and teach at such a high level. I never pass up an opportunity to train with Vlad.

Llame por teléfono para pedir informes y un hombre me colgó por hablar español. Se han perdido la inscripción de mis 4 hij@s. Pero después se disculpó lo cual reconozco es un acierto.

Please Beware! The owner of this place is not respectful and really makes you feel uncomfortable around him. I had initially reached out to this place to get info regarding membership as my son showed interest in joining a karate class. I was attempting to get quotes from various places. This place however would not give me a quote via message. Instead, I was offered a free trial lesson to which I was told I'd be given more information after the lesson. I went ahead and took my son so that we could check it out. Right away he asked awkward personal questions that had nothing to do with the lesson. Questions regarding my race (really awkward). After the lesson he then asked if I was interested in signing up. I was not comfortable with the rates he was offering and explained that I would discuss it with my husband and would get back to him if we were interested. He then began to shake his head making remarks like, "Why do you have to talk to your husband about it" He then proceeded to ask if I'd like to leave my credit card info and that he would not run it unless I let him know that we were interested. I was already very uncomfortable and was not interested in signing my son up as he had also mentioned that he did not have kids around my son's age and so my son would need to train with adults. I was initially looking for a place that offered a class that my son could join where he'd make friends that share the same interest. I wish he would have explained that in the first place and I would not have wasted my time in going to the trial lesson. Either way, he then proceeds to message me asking if I was still interested in signing up my son after all. I responded as respectfully as I could that at this time, I didn't feel the place would be a good fit for my son and that it was out of my budget. He then responded calling my son "weak and soft" and needing "masculine trades" He was unbelievably disrespectful. I did not bother to respond to such remarks, and then he proceeded to message me again! I'm shocked at how I have not even become a client and he had the nerve to harass me. Please beware.. I honestly would not have bothered looking into this place had I know I'd be receiving this type of treatment.
