As a lifelong martial artist, let me tell you that Brave Martial Arts is one of the nicest facilities I've had the chance to train in. Coach Tony really knows how to put together a solid, high-level boxing program — one of the best boxing coaches I've had the chance to train with. Highly recommend
Posted 3 months agoOutstanding Coaching, Culture, and Facility! Highlights: Welcoming • Respectful • No egos • Excellent programs for kids, teens, and adults • Abundance of training partners of all sizes/skills • Huge, clean, modern facility. From the moment you step on the mats, your future teammates make you feel welcome. I joined the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program at Brave Martial Arts Institute in the fall of 2022, and there is no doubt in my mind that I made the best choice. World-Class Instruction: Head instructor, Professor Rodrigo Alves, is by far the best instructor I've had the privilege to learn from. You can clearly tell his instruction comes from deep, multi-year experience both as a practitioner and a teacher. When teaching, he provides an abundance of options which allows us to be aware of the many possibilities and determine which ones fit best with our individual game. A few things that set his coaching apart: - Body Mechanics: His knowledge of how the body moves is always integrated into the lesson. - Practical Details: He focuses heavily on real-world, applicable details. - The "Why": More importantly, he always explains why the details matter, which immensely helps with technique understanding and long-term memory retention. An Incredible Team & Community: I’ve also had the privilege of training with some of the other amazing instructors and seeing them teach their classes. They are all dedicated, experienced, high-level martial artists. The overall environment is highly respectful, entirely ego-free, and boasts an abundance of training partners of all sizes and skill levels. I highly recommend checking out Brave’s BJJ program (aka Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Team Ottawa) and/or their Muay Thai program!
Posted 4 months agoStarted seriously Brazilian jiu jitsu almost 3 years ago at Brave. Very welcoming, clean and professional gym. Head coach/owner is a passionate for the sport and teaching his knowledge. I can compare to other few gyms I tried and this is THE best one in town. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Posted 4 months agoThis gym overall is just really good in all aspects, you walk in and u can tell its really nice and clean etc. Moving on, the coach is very understanding and when explaining is very clear with what hes trying to say. The community is just amazing as well they’re super welcoming and friendly. Really recommend.
Posted 4 months agoI’ve been training at Brave Martial Arts in Ottawa for about 4 and a half years, and it has been an amazing experience for both me and my sons. This gym has given us nothing but great memories, strong friendships, and a real sense of camaraderie. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and great mentors. They create a positive environment where people can learn, grow, and challenge themselves. I’ve also had great memories from the striking classes, and the Brazilian jiu-jitsu program is excellent for both beginners and experienced students. One thing I really appreciate is how clean and well-maintained the gym is with good new equipment. It feels welcoming, safe, and professional. Brave is a great place for anyone who wants to start Brazilian jiu-jitsu, improve their striking skills, build confidence, and be part of a strong martial arts community. I truly hope this gym keeps growing and thriving. Highly recommended.
Posted 4 months agoI trained at Brave Martial Arts for seven months doing Muay Thai. The instructors and classmates are great, and the training environment initially felt very welcoming and supportive. Hidden Discounts: Upon leaving, management mentioned I qualified for an occupational discount—something never brought up at sign-up that would have saved me over $300. When I asked if it could be applied retroactively or to my final month, they refused. It’s a solid facility for training, but is costly if you cannot get there enough. Ask about unadvertised discounts upfront, and don't expect much flexibility if your circumstances change.
