I not only love Bowie Journey jitsu academy but I also appreciate the energy. The instructor is fun, respectful, and very knowledgeable. I love how excited my child is to participate and the fact the class is 50 mins it gives my child enough time to enjoy the class and burn some energy.
I’ve been training at Bowie Jiu Jitsu Academy since January, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience! Everyone is so welcoming, positive and supportive. I am taking the Women Empowered class and the instructors are amazing! They break down the techniques step-by-step; and will go over lifesaving scenarios multiple times to make sure that you know how to protect yourself. In addition to learning self-defense, these classes are also helping me get back into shape. When I am not in class, I follow the BJJ lessons through the online platform. I also appreciate receiving email and text updates when new classes and BJJ merch become available. I highly recommend this training facility!
I can’t say enough wonderful things about Bowie Jiu-Jitsu. My son has been attending since Fall 2024 and he enjoys going each week. The instructors are fantastic, providing a supportive and engaging environment. They recently introduced a younger children’s “Mat Muchkins”that my younger son then went to and he had a blast! It’s wonderful to see both of my kids so excited to learn and grow here. Highly recommend this place for any parent looking to introduce their children to Jiu-Jitsu, good community, and fun!

I'm so grateful for my experience here. The management and instructors are all so kind and genuinely want to help you improve. There's never any feeling of judgement. When I first started I was scared of trying something new and that quickly changed. I take the Women Empowered classes and there is such a great sense of community and trust. Everyone just wants to help everyone and it's seriously been life changing for me.
We have been attending the Little Champs program at Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy for a couple of years now and I cannot say enough positive things about our experience. Mr. Kenny is a fantastic instructor and makes Jiu-Jitsu fun and relatable for the kids. The facility is clean, it’s family friendly, and the staff is kind. Little Champs is a must for kids 5-8, empowering them with de-escalation skills and anti bullying countermeasures. I’ve watched my child’s confidence grow while coming to Bowie Jiu-Jitsu!

I highly recommend Bowie Jiu-jitsu Academy! It’s a place where you can enhance your self-defense skills, improve your endurance (get in exercise), challenge yourself, and have fun… all at the same time!! The focus is on learning and practicing the Gracie Jiu-jitsu techniques, not on competition, so the likelihood for injury is much lower at this gym than at many other gyms. Another thing that I found helpful is that the coaches are patient and very encouraging. And I can say the same about fellow students. This is my first time practicing a martial art, and I don’t think that I could’ve chosen a better place to start.
Except studio with patient and committed leadership. I’ve heard great things about their adult classes, but I can only speak on bullyproof. My 5 yr old son is learning discipline and focus, while being active. I love that the core of the instruction instills strong values in the children. So glad I found this studio.
They call me "T" and I've been practicing at this place for a little over a year and half. I must say that this my place of peace. I learned long time ago that the typical gym wasn't for me. When I started on my journey at this place I was 310lb. Now I'm under 260lb due to my dedication and determination but I must say its been mainly due to the community here which is incredible. ALL of the coaches here are passionate about what they do and it shows. 1% better each day is the motto. My mental health is in a much better place than it was years ago and It's all thanks to this place. My son also attends and our relationship has never been better. A family that roles together stays together.
I love this Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Took a women's introductory course last year and was hooked. Joined the Women Empowerment group and really enjoy the camaraderie, the support, the lessons, the empowerment and coach Izumi is amazing. I cannot wait to do some of the combative classes. Highly recommend!

Knowledgeable instructors who care about the development of the students. Clean mats that are well maintained and an excellent record for not having health issues commonly associated with poor mat sanitation. A small business that has a large positive impact on the community and well worth the price.
Bowie Jiu-Jitsu was a great gym to start at when I decided to do Women's Empowerment/Women's self defense. Instructor Zumi and DJ were so welcoming and informative. We always had a big group and had a ton of fun while learning real world situations! I suggest coming by for a drop in for any woman of any age. I always felt comfortable, safe, and EMPOWERED 💪🏽
I started doing jiu jitsu 1 year ago and started at a sports school. I was on and off for awhike and it was fun but physically taxing. Bowie Jiu Jitsu is self-defense focused which helps me understand techniques a lot better. It can be physically taxing, but not as intense as I've experienced with sports JiuJitsu. And, with a Gracie University subscription included, it is amazing to be able to look at techniques online and come to class to practice them and receive instruction. I love the atmosphere here, despite my being here only a few months. All the coaches are incredible, kind, and helpful, as are the other students. I don't have any children, but I can see that the kids really enjoy themselves during class. Great atmosphere, a lot of space, and all around good vibes!

Classes for children are excellent. They improve strength while slowly introducing them to grappling. I can see my child’s confidence improving even as he is just 3 months into this program. Highly recommended

Mr. Kenny is a fantastic instructor. He is amazing with his students. He is very hands-on and delivers a high energy, engaging, interactive class. He keeps them moving the entire session. We have been with him for a year and are very pleased with his location. My son started in his homeschool program and then aged out to the adult class. I highly recommend his classes. This studio provides a great service for the community.
With uncertain times now and news of school violence, kids getting bullied, or worse it is so hard for a parent to calm anxieties. We cannot be with our kids 24/7 but we can help provide them with tools needed to be their own hero. Within the 10 day free trial i noticed more confidence in my child and I started to feel less anxious about the future. Coach Kenny, Coach DJ, and Coach Izumi empower kids with tools and technics to not only avoid a fight but defend themselves if needed. Every 2 months there is a new topic from Respect, Citizenship, and more that builds our kids to be of value in society. At Bowie Jiu-Jitsu, they don't just care about the moves but they care about the mindset too! Even as a parent sitting and watching a class, you pick up on some cool self defense moves. From day one my daughter and I felt so welcome because this community just brings you in like they have known you for years! My only regret is not joining sooner!! I guarantee if you try the 10 day trial, you will be hooked!!!!

We've been coming to Bowie Jiu-jitsu since my son was 4 years old & now he's 6. We love the atmosphere & the instructors are amazing. We're like family now & we love Mr. Kenny. And they have a Woman's Empowerment class too which unfortunately due to my job schedule I couldn't continue participating in but that was an amazing experience as well. They teach the kids & adults techniques to defend themselves. I feel confident that my child will know how to handle a bully in the future. I would recommend for anyone to join whether you're an adult or a child. This place is AMAZING!!!

We signed our daughter up for the Women Empowered classes when a creepy stranger followed her through our neighborhood. Bowie Jiu Jitsu has been a blessing to our family! Not only does she LOVE the Women Empowered classes, but she is allowed to help coach the younger kid classes, which is a passion of hers! And! As a homeschooling family, we always look for businesses who involve our kiddos. Bowie Jiu Jitsu is VERY homeschool friendly and even offer classes for homeschoolers! Which our daughter also takes. We've been there for two months and I honestly don't know what we were doing without them! This is an absolutely fantastic gym! We love Bowie Jiu Jitsu!

I highly recommend Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I appreciate the balance the kids experience between exercising discipline and having a lot of fun. My five year old looks forward to attending class every week. We joined BJJ, because my five year old did not have the confidence to speak up for herself. After the first class, she showed an immediate confidence boost and verbally defended herself when someone crossed her boundary. I also cannot say enough positive things about Coach Kenny. My teenage son, Joshua, loves coming to the classes. He started off with going just twice a week, and he recently asked me could he go to the unlimited classes. I love the confidence that his confidence is growing with this martial art. His instructor, Kenny, is a phenomenal teacher and has a gift of developing his students to have very measurable results. They also have homeschool classes in the day time which is a huge plus. My son attends both the morning and evening classes as he is motivated to become an instructor like Mr. Kenny one day. It is a family friendly and clean environment. My son said that he believes that what he is learning is a skill that can be applied in the real world for the purpose of self defense. The price for classes is also an amazing deal.

Bowie Jiu-Jitsu came recommended from a friend. Kiddo has been in a few classes and really enjoys it. They teach the kids to listen and watch as they practice the skills. Also, the owner provides amazing customer service. Signed kiddo up for a 10 day trial and he missed it due to illness. The owner offered to extend the free trial so we could try twice. Once trial was over, owner got in touch proactively to ensure we were joining since I was automatically charged at the end of the trial. Looking forward to more classes. :-)

Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is an amazing school. I was nervous to join, as a complete novice, but everyone from the staff to the members has welcomed me with open arms. Let me just start by saying, I'm the new guy. I have no prior BJJ experience and just decided to one day get up and train at Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy. And let me tell you, I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm having a tremendous amount of fun in that lack of awareness. Keep that last sentence for the time capsule. Kenny and Mark are great in not only ensuring you learn quality technique in a thoughtful and deliberate way, but also creating a culture where people want to get up and come out and train and train often. The other training partners are all solid people, who not only don't mind answering your questions, but they also proactively seek you out for help. The training space is clean and there are folks of all ages and skills levels participating in the many programs offered here. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to take advantage of the trial and come attend a class.

Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a great place to learn self-defense for adults as well as fun character development for children. The academy has a structured curriculum that helps learning flow easier from one technique to the next and allows you to track your personal progress. The academy's affiliation with Gracie University that allows students to view and review techniques in their own time as well as its friendly and open atmosphere makes it a great place to learn Jiu-jitsu.

I have always been interested in learning the art, but I kept hearing how people get hurt fast. Then I found this place and its been great. I'm learning all of the BJJ principles SAFELY in Gracie COMBATIVES!!! Kenny is awesome, always ready to hit the mat an extra time so you get it crispy. Everyone is helpful...even the younger BJJs. All age ranges, from 13 and up in GC. While there are mostly males, there are females to work with as well. From what I hear, the prices are more reasonable as well and there are no contracts. I'm 50 and loving my learning. Just in the short time I have been attending, the family has grown. Come try it out for 10 days free! See you on the mat!!

As someone who struggles with PTSD and severe Anxiety, going to Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy has helped me immensely to feel confident and reassured in social situations, where otherwise, I would completely shut down due to an overwhelming amount of fear. The instructors of the academy are truly heart warming and very patient with their students, I found a real sense of family amongst the martial scholars and their coach. I look forward to many more years of learning at this wonderful academy.

I have been studying BJJ with Bowie Jiu-Jitsu instructor Kenny Nero for some time now. He is a dedicated and compassionate instructor who lives and breathes Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. He takes his study and his instruction seriously. I am older and not looking for a competitive school, like the ones I have trained at in the past. I am a business man and have to work and don't want to be torn, bruised and beat up like I was at some of the other schools. I was basically fodder for the upper belts. However, at Bowie JJ Academy I get to actually work on my techniques while learning the Gracie system of Bjj...the originators. I highly recommend you come work out with us.
