Great place for learning self defense skills.
tl;dr: new, clean, family-friendly, family-owned, great energy, environment, camaraderie, and instructors. mats are chef's kiss. you have to feel the difference. best prices. found the perfect hidden gem for anyone looking to get started in a martial art. i am writing as a parent of a 10yo girl who has been taking taekwondo classes for 3 years and active in sports. tkd is a good primer for children to build on its core tenants of self-confidence, discipline, and focus but then there's a plateau. jiu jitsu is a great progression either as a supplement or stand alone. located in downers grove close to maple and i355, this school is for all-ages (divided by little kids, kids, and adults). they offer a free 1 week trial. i've done the due diligence and this school has the most reasonable tuition and generous uniform policy. the instructors display the perfect balance of teacher, coach, and cheerleader while teaching technique and safety for all ages and skill levels. my daughter tried one class from the free trial, loved it, and signed up the next day. fast forward 3 weeks and she has made bjj a priority over her other extracurricular activities. try the free week and see why others are signing up before their trial period ends. the owner's passion for the art is both clear and catagious and that is why this place won't stay hidden long.
I've been watching this place come together for the last few months and I'm so excited that its open! I stopped by to check it out and they were so friendly and passionate about teaching kids the art of Jiu Jitsu that I signed my daughter up as soon as I got home. I think this will be a perfect outlet for my ADHD child and she can't wait to get started.
Met the man at the library when I was with my little siblings and mom and he was pretty cool. We talked a bit and he told me he was a veteran and I told him I wanted to join someday so he recommended this place that he was opening up so im excited to try it. Also hoping to do boxing with this as well.
